I updated the phone at tmobile because it wouldn't update from my computer at home. I was running stock j16 and now the phone has these problems, any help would be appreciated
gps no longer works wont lock and takes a long time to find sats thirty minutes or more. I cleared the caches and still no worky, worked fine on j16.
alarm clock wont work?
ringer will work and then not work?
Phone is lags and is glitchy, it has not froze like it did when new.
I am thinking about loading a rom on this phone as it is my third vibrant, and the other two had issues and this one worked fine with a little lag. and now it sucks as bad as the two that got returned. I did load a rom on one of them before I returned it and it kept freezing up to the point that I had to pull the battery.
any suggestions would be appreciated
I've heard of issues with phones that upgraded form 2.1 -> 2.2. My father's being one. He refuses to root his phone or install a custom ROM but he said that the Samsung GPS Restore app from the market helped him.
Not sure about the alarms or ringer issues. Make sure you go into settings and set the ringtone for each one again.
However, I would recommend installing a custom ROM. It will give you a fresh install (always good!) and more than likely a much faster/more enjoyable phone .
Root the phone and install a custom rom there is benefit using the stock.. If it is giving you problems just abandon and load something decent like, Axura, EDT, Trigger or Bionix
I was thinking of loading honey 2.4, but when I read all of the info on the roms, it gets confusing with all of the different kernals and lag fixes etc. I tried axura (I hope I spelled it right) and it was really buggy on the phone I sent back. It kept freezing and falling a sleep to where I had to pull the battery and re boot. I have been hesitant ever since. I use this phone a lot and really depend on it for business. My G1 was a lot mor dependable. lol.
Jusr root it and install a custom rom. Bionix-v 1.3.1 is great. And you cannot brick these phones unlesss your a complete idiot... phone is worth owning once a custom rom is on. Before that these things are grass

I couldnt find another thread like it, so decided to make one, mainly to see if everyone, or just some people have a phone that pretty much takes just about everything you throw at it and then some.
I bought mine brand new out of contract (I wasnt due for a upgrade for a long time) a few days after it was released, and Ive had the same one ever since. Its been through alot, I dont consider myself to be anywhere near a n00b with the phone anymore, but looking back, putting, or attempting to put, some of the things I did on there, flashing God knows what, deleting important things that probably should never be deleted, etc.
I used to have this "try it first, read about it later" thing going on, but once I switched it around, I learned alot. Im still learning alot.
Maybe one day when they start giving me medicine for ADD I can give developing a shot lol.
So have you had to send yours back yet to get a new one? Had it all this time? Just got it recently? From my experience you have to mess up pretty bad to actually brick one of these phones.
I've had mine since sept 2010. I've had to use odin once. Been stuck.in a few a few bootloops. Other then that its been a great phone. My first rom was bionix 1.9 with jacs oc /uv kernel. Its taken everything I've thrown at it.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
I did return mine because it was hardware locked. The new one was unfortunately locked also. But the ota update to ji6 fixed it for me.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
I've had mine since last week because I traded it for my mytouch slide and yesterday I rooted, bricked, and rooted again. My first rom was bionix v and I don't think I can send it in for a replacement ...

My first ROM was Obsidian, then I almost immediatley switched to Onyx. I didnt switch to a custom ROM for a while because for the most part I changed and edited the framework myself. Then I decided to say screw that, lol.
The one thing my phone wont take is a OC kernel. It works for about 2 minutes then decides to freeze up and I usually have to flash the stock kernel back. Ive tried just 1280, up to 1400 and it doesnt want any part of it. Which doesnt matter I guess. I only have about 1GB used of the 20GB available to the phone, so its fast enough.
Also, as far as Odin, Ive only HAD to use it twice, but every once in a while I like to back everything up, Format everything in CWR and go back to JFD, to kind of "start fresh".
I've had mine since late july or early august, can't remember which. But it kept powering off randomly so I did get it replaced in november i believe. I didn't start rooting/flashing until december because i was scared as **** about messing something up. I use to hate the vibrant and all its laggyness/gps issues but the devs have allowed me to have a usable phone again!
I've had mine since early september, I just recently got another one, I was complaining about my data always not connecting and t mobile went ahead and sent me another phone. Turns out I was just being throttled lol. I really have no problem with the vibrant, even before the froyo update when everyone hated their vibrant since they didn't have the update, its never bothered me, especially with all the custom roms everywhere anyway
This is starting to sound like a "vibrants anonymous" support group.. not that i've ever been to AA LOL
Had mine since july 16th. This is still my original one. I've flashed countless .zips. flashed about 10 ROMS. Used ODIN once. Taken it apart a few times to install and adjust the ffc. All of that and it still runs like a champ. Aside from the gps which used to work and now doesn't, I've had minimal problems with my device.
Sexy Vibrant featuring Nero V3 w/Voodoo, and FFC installed
I flashed Trigger 3.0 when it first came out, I was so happy with the rom that I took a abreak from flashing different roms. A week ago I started to get some force closes and they became a bit more frequent. Over the past couple of days I have been looking for a new rom to run. I started with Explodingboy's Simply Honey 3.6, then tried Simply Honey v1.0XE and Heathen's Private stock 2.0. Each time I flashed a rom I came started by odin-ing to JDF first.
With all of the roms I got the same problem, which leads me to thing it's hardware based rather than the roms. I would flash the rom, the rom would work fine for a few hrs then the phone would freeze while asleep. The only way to wake the phone was to do a battery pull. This sleep freeze would happen 30-40% of the time the phone would go to sleep.
I'm going to try to flash a 2.2 rom and see if my phone does any better, the others were 2.3.3 or 2.2.1
What kernel are you running?
Hardware takes quite a bit of abuse to deteriorate. In fact, most "hardware parts" will just simply die, not slowly deteriorate.

With Trigger 3.0 I was running overstock OC/OV, with no problems for many weeks.
Once I started looking for a new rom, a few days ago, I always used the default kernel.
Do you mean ODIN to JDK?
Thats the stock base for Vibrant.
Side note: I have been unable to use my screen while device is plugged in, to dosent make the right touches and bounces around the screen...I was thinking I needed to ODIN to JDK, so I did... nothing changed, now I'm thinking I might need to get a new phone... #FYI
Thats actually pretty interesting. For awhile I had the same problem it just wasn't as frequent as yours. I'm using the Overstock kernel which I think it was what mine was related to. I had my sleep profile in setCPU set really low, I bumped it up and havn't had any problems since.

To the OP, maybe you've restored some corrupt titanium data. Only restore apps and no system data after a fresh flash and see what happens.
How about u coding to stock and leave it alone see if u have same problem if not then its not hardware related

I second this. Go back to stock, and see what happens. Also, do NOT restore any backups at all, leave everything clean.
Also you can try and use System Panel, and see wich apps are running in the background, and then Titanium Backup to freeze app by app (not system apps of course) and see if any of these are causing you the FCs.
Hey all thanks for all the responses. I was reading them all yesterday but did not want to reply and jinx my trigger 3.2 flash. I've now been running trigger 3.2 for close to a day and no FCs.
I can say I did anything different with this flash to make it more stable. I went back to JFD via odin and use Ti to restore user apps and system apps (ONLY: wifi, bluetooth, user dictionary, and MMS)
thanks again for everyones help.
Glad to hear it is worked out.
My wife uses a Samsung Vibrant and there are just so many issues with it. Currently, it's on the latest stock Froyo release. It keeps losing all of her home screen icons (using stock TWLaucher) and we have to kill TWLauncher or reboot to get them back. Seems to have lag all over the place. Also, wifi signal strength is poor. The wifi calling app constantly turns off saying the wifi signal isn't good enough.
I'd like be interested in trying out a custom ROM. I've tinkered with some of the leaked ROMs, so I'm familiar with ODIN. I've used CWM on my Droid X before, so I should be ok with that as well.
She's not interested in 100 different themes and fancy icons and fancy features, etc. We are just going to want something that's close to stock with some tweaks that might fix some of the issues we are having. Not interested in partially working ROMs where the GPS doesn't work or issues with the camera, etc. Would like wifi calling to work as well. Need something totally stable. I'm not going to want something that's going to need updating weekly either.
Anything out there that meets what I'm looking for?
Please make suggestions.
Hi, same situation here, my gf has stock vibrant with froyo and many issues...
I've cm7 on my N1 so I considered it for the vibrant but at the moment it have troubles with gps and wifi SO I've searched a lot and the much more stable rom (for me of course) is the projectV, it's based on the official froyo with some tweaks and fixes, seems pretty stable until now
here the topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105037
hope u enjoy it

I actually had my eye on that one.
It'll improve the lag and losing icons and things like that? I don't need a lagfix on top of that as well?
I'm not doing this for the eye candy (extra lock screens, etc.), I just want things to run more smoothly.
This probably won't help the low wifi signal though, since it's using the same modem as stock froyo, right?
Anyone else want to chime in?
It'll definently improve Lag and that icon problem that you have will not happen. And almost every ROM in here has a Lagfix, so Project-V does have one and will come on when you flash it. (A voice of a robotic women after flashing means that Voodoo is flashing) Voodoo is the name of the Lagfix, which makes our systems run on ext4 instead of the slow RFS system stock that your wife had.

The best thing about Project-V ROM is that its made to be fast and for tweaking, that's why they say they're not competing with Cyanogenmod because it also has both speed and tweaking abilities. So don't worry if you think Project-V is all eye candy, because its both Speed, Stability, and Tweaks!

If anything, I'll probably give this Project V a shot then. My wife will kill me if I F up her phone or cause her to lose stuff.
I flash this with CWM? I don't exactly recall where to get CWM or how to use it, but I'm sure I'll figure that out.
Installing this over stock will be a total data wipe, right? I should back up programs and program data with Titanium first and then restore after?
This does include the lagfix/file conversion? That just happens automatically when I flash this?
Everything works? No serious bugs? I can also flash that wifi calling file in the first post using cwm and then I'll have wifi calling too?
Let's say Samsung releases a 2.3 that's a solid ROM and I want to go back to stock. With this applied and whatever lagfix, file conversion that's been done, how hard would it be to get back to stock?
Anything else I should know?
I've rooted the stock froyo, backupped ALL with titanium and then wiped all from cwm and installed projectV, no problem at all but titanium is required
About gingerbread.... do you remeber the "froyo story" right? I think I seat and wait for the gingerbread version of projectV (or other roms based on official release)! No more stock images in my home please

Yes, wouldn't be surprised at all if there's never an official 2.3 for this. Their 2.2 release was many months behind competing phones originally released around the same time. Still, just want to make sure I understand what I'm getting into here and how hard it would be to get back out. Could I easily get back to the stock froyo that it's on now, if I need to?
I've never did it , but I think u have to odin back to 2.1 stock and then ota (or keys) to 2.2 or whatever

Does the new market that came out this week work fine on this phone?
Before this market, I also had terrible problems updating apps. It was brutally slow and update all usually failed on most apps. I was very surprised that after installing the new market, I was able to do an update all on 20 apps with no problems at all.
My wife had pretty much given up on updating apps on the stock rom.
not yet tried ! But my gf had no problem at all with old and oldest market under tmob, now she's back in Italy, so I've unlocked the sim and still have no issues!
try a few different 1's and see which you like best
I like the bionix 1.3.1 with bali 1.8.7 uv kernel.
i'm not sure about the wifi calling as I dont use that feature.
Tried the new market right now, no proplems as always!

ROMS
As far as which rom you choose is your choice, I am running Toxic Smoke and a lot of people will agree its super quick and responsive but I support almost all roms, Devs here do great work on the vibrant and all should be recognized for it. I may have a solve for your low WiFi signal though..... Have you looked in to the Hardware GPS fix? It involves you opening up your phone and bending a small piece of copper, I did so and put a tiny sliver of credit card plastic under it to keep it from bending back down and now my GPS signal is ridiculous as compared to before. But as I read more there is another copper pin on the opposite side of the phone, that is your WIFI antenna. I then took my phone apart again and did the same thing to that pin and now My WIfI gets great signal. I guess it all depends on how tech savoy you are and how much you want to get into your phone. I know for how much it cost and how much I use my phone I wanted it working 100% so I took the extra time to do all of this and Im quite happy with my Vibrant now. But anyway my specs on my phone are,
ROM: ToxicMusixSmoke
Launcher: Golauncher Pro EX (Which is freaking awesome and free)
Kernal: Bali X (Will increase the responsiveness of your phone ff Overclocked to 1.2 using setCPU, you can download for free on XDA, cost 2.99 or something on the market, the dev offers it for free on here)
+ Hardware GPS Fix and S.gps.zip file for the drivers (You can also find this fine on the Hardware GPS fix post)
I hope this helps as my phone is very stable and I am totally satisfied with my phone as I was not so much at first. I also think with Golauncher you can get stock themes so your phone will look and act just like stock, but run 10000000000000 times better!
I am new to the samsung t959
Any recommendation for ROM? I would like to be as fast as possible, and with a working GPS
I don't mind CM7 as long as it is fastest.
Thanks a million!
]I wasn't looking for fastest.
Just need something to eliminate done of this issues we've had with stock and to be stable with everything functioning correctly.
Project V seems to have done that.
Only issue, so far, is that bloater isn't working and I can't figure a way to get the samsung stock keyboard back. Can anyone help with that?
I like that this rom is so close to stock. If I didn't tell my wife, she wouldn't have even known I changed anything.
While I no longer use it myself, I found Zendroid 2.0.1 with Bali Kernel to be the simplest and easiest to use for a layman, like the average wife or girlfriend
It's extremely lightweight with no bloat to speak of, and battery life is phenomenal (no bloat, no 2g/3g bleeding).
@lexluthor you can use root explorer our similar app to copy the apk to the system/app folder.

Hi everyone. My wife and I both have GPS issues on our Droid X2s. They were both rooted using Super One Click found here, latest version at the time they were rooted (2.3.3 I believe). After rooting, and this has been for a month or so, the GPS will frequently fail. When I say that I mean that I not only don't get the searching for gps message, the little icon in the notification bar doesn't even blink. Most of the time toggling gps on and off using the power widget brings it back, but this happens way too often, sometimes it doesn't even work right after a reboot and a battery pull!
I tried sbfing back to stock 2.3.4, and then it works. So I proceed to root as usual (super one click, voodoo root keeper, ota update to latest firmware, then restore root via voodoo) and again it fails frequently, both phones. I am looking for any help/ideas here as I have googled and read several forms but no solution has worked. I am at the point I am ready to purchase 2 new droid razr maxx, but I really don't want to as these phones were only purchased a little over a year ago and it would mean forking over $1300.
Thanks in advance.
Eric
I might suggest trying a different rom maybe a 2.3.4 rom. I wasn't on cm7 for very long but I think I remember the GPS being pretty stable. I'm on paranoid android now and the gps lock is almost instant and doesn't let go. It eats battery like crazy and drives me crazy sometimes but I love it. Wouldn't recommend it or the other cm9 roms if you are looking for worry free performance. Eclipse is probably the answer for that although I don't remember GPS performance at all. And seriously $1300? Don't go Motorola if you are going to fork over that kind of cash. You could get 2 galaxy s3's for way less than that, now that it's unlocked that's a way better option in my opinion. Or the nexus for even less.

Yes, Id recommend a ROM that stays on 2.3.4 like CM7. Been using CM7 for over two months with just a minor glitch every now and then, it says beta but its quite close to a stable release. Thats odd that you would have gps on 2.3.4 but lose it when you updated, Im not sure Ive ever heard of that. Good Luck.
Hi,
I'm having severe problems with my Amaze for weeks now. Thing is, I can't find a ROM that just works for me, nothing fancy or special, I just want to flash something and use my phone rather than flashing ROM every few hours.
First let me tell you about my phone:
It's T-Mobile Amaze 4G, S-ON and with 4EXT recovery.
My problems are that:
1) After each phone restart, most of the times phone doesn't find my SD card and as I store my apps on it, I have to restart again and again and hope for a time that it does find my SD card.
2) Whenever I tweak a ROM, even a bit, and I don't mean hack, just using the option the ROM itself provides like tweaks that Revolution does, phone crashes constantly and I have to reflash.
3) I have severe problems with ICS ROMs that seem stable and people are saying that they use regularly.
4) Even if I don't try to customize a ROM, phone gets into weird problems like crashes at startup or stuck at htc logo that leaves me into reflash.
I got this phone from my brother who was using 2.x ROMs on it but I wanted Nexus look so I upgraded to ICS with ph185.img and then been trying almost all ROMs but I'm yet to find something that I can safely put my sim card in it without worrying that it might miss a call or drain battery fast.
I first wanted Nexus pure android look but I now fell back to htc stock look and been trying all other ROMs, even though downloading ROMs is very expensive. Maybe I have to S-OFF and fall back to 2.3.4 ROMs.
Any help is highly appreciated as I'm so desperate and can't afford another phone for at least a year.
Thanks.
