[Q] Rebooting into recovery problem - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I posted this in the Noob thread but got no help there for 13 hours now and Im kinda in a hurry so here's what it is; Okay, so whenever I reboot to recovery and press re-install packages it tells me it failed to do so for some reason after two seconds and the font stays purple. Any suggestions guys? Should I proceed to install the ROM using Rom manager? Is this normal? Please answer I have to finish this today, I've no other time.

Are you already rooted and trying to flash a rom? Not enough detail here to work with
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Yes I am. And if its the update.zip file that is corrupt then kindly link me to a valid one.

Use rom manager and get a new one

How so? I have had it installed since ever but I can't find an option to create an update file.

Update.zip for official froyo?

I'm a Noob... but I am a little informed and so so well read on the forum. Is there a update.zip file just for allowing the phone to recognize permission to let me flash a ROM. Please help
Thanks in advance

By the way I am rooted but can't get file permission

The update.zip is generated if it's not already there by ROM manager after you click Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. You can also select Fix Permissions in ROM Manager if it helps.
Thanks but it was a no go! Its still saying signature verification denied....

Did you use kies mini for stock froyo? It's the 3e stock recovery... Search for the modified stock 3e.

I used cmd and flashed .img file from scratch; everything works again. I'm sure a update is probably on the way until then I'll wait. I think jokerax11 is updating cm9 today hopefully to beta keeping.

How do you flash it through rom manager? I'm trying to help my brother out in another state so I can't do it for him. I did mine through fastboot so I haven't messed with rom manager yet.
just have him search xda for cwm 5.0.2.7 its a zip file so he can flash from the app.

Actually ...ummmm. That didn't work once I tried it.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
i went all the way back to stock to be safe. but now all is well i just wont update it
Yeah...just had to reflash the CWM using the fastboot cmd method...I'd really like to try the CWM Touch Recovery once availble..that'd be SIIICK..

Unable to verify signature

I have downloaded a zip file from samfirmware and placed it on my SD, tried installing it using recovery but every time I get a message saying it's unable to verify the signature. Had the same problem using ROM Manager to d/l CM9 nightly.
Any suggestions?

I am relatively certain that zips from samfirmware.com are Odin flash packages... I don't think they're CWM recovery flashable zips. So you're doing it wrong.
Makes sense, cheers matey

[Q] Replace recovery.img in zip

Hi.
I'm looking for confirmation.
I downloaded the latest cwm touch recovery from their site. It's a img file.
I'd like to flash it from recovery. Is it safe to replace the img from the zip file from another recovery with the cwm one?
It should work, but is there anything I need to pay attention to?
Thanks!

Just flash with mobile Odin
safer to download a flashable zip version of the recovery
True, but I didn't manage to find yet.

You can get Mobile Odin Lite (free) from here

You do know their official app 'rom manager' supports clockworkmod installing AND updating and when u start it it shows you if you have the latest recovery mod installed?:banghead:

Yes I am aware of that. Too bad I am to cheap to pay for the premium version which allows the automated flashing of the touch version.

Touch version, in my opionion, is worse than non touch. Roms are for theming and fun, launchers as well.
Clockworkmod and RECOVERY states are for serious stuff, a wrong touch and u can damage your phone. Much better to have to press the buttons...

But yeah try to flash. The worst is you wont be able to flash it or ur clockworkmod will stop working. In that case get to pc and reflash older clockwork mod by following a safe guide....

Used TWRP or CWM Touch on thousands of flashed never a problem.
Any miss hit is not going to damage your phone and i find with TRWP you are less likely to miss the correct sequence as you always hit the right buttons .

Just to answer to the original question, yes it should be safe. I have done so many times with twrp and it has always worked.

[Q] Device failed to Unroot, NEED to send device in to Verizon today, please help!

Hello, I followed the guide here and had to download the Alternate Restore because my phone had the VRALL4 OTA update and I had to unlock the bootloader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
When I downloaded the L4 OTA stock Firmware, it was a .xz and Odin does not recognize that as a valid file when clicking on the PDA. I tried older stock firmware, but that does not work. Can someone please help me? I have to send my device to Verizon today to get it fixed. Thank you for your time
You need to use 7 zip to extract the alternate restore first
