I am having Samsung Vibrant with 2.1. Tried to upgrade to 2.2 using Kies Mini but gave error 'Unregistered Device' and I am using XP 32 bit.
Any solution??
I want to try using ODIN. Where can I get files required for ODIN to upgrade to 2.2.
Please reply.

all the information you need is in the android development section, most of it is easily accessible and categorized through the sticky thread "vibrant dictionary (bible)" your problem with the upgrade sounds driver related

JK6 - Samsung
JI6 - Samsung
JI2 - Samsung
JFD - Samsung
can someone help me out ?
thanks

Thanks... where can I get drivers? I have already installed the drivers.

I have reflash using ODIN to 2.1. I tried to upgrade to 2.2 using Kies Mini but still getting same error... Unregistered device...
Need help.

Any solution for Unregistered device?
Is there any method to upgrade other than Mini Kies?
I have also installed KIes but it doesnt show Samsung Vibrant.

Might try wiping your internal sd storage (after backing up of course). Has solved the problem for me in the past.

Yes there is a solution, just install the drivers using this Program here.
And yes there's another way other than kies and it's called Odin but try Kies first if you only want to upgrade to Froyo, its much simpler but if it didn't work for you (after trying ofcourse) give Odin a shot.

I have upgraded 2.2 using ODIN. But Market and GMail apps are not working.
getting error.
The app market (processcom.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. button Force close

You forgot KA6

I didnt get you. Its showing me KA6 now..
Audio Postcard and Gmail was not working but after clearing cache its working now..
any solution for Market?

After 2.2 upgrade I can see Samsungapps in my app list but does see shortcut on screen.
Does anyone help this?
Also any solution for Market apps not working?

[Q] Rooting 2.2

I just recently updated to Froyo 2.2 (KA6) using Kies Mini. I have searched around on how to root the 2.2, but to no avail. I have tried using SuperOneClick v1.7 and it seems to not work when I try it.
Could anyone please refer me to a link on how to successfully root my phone or you can just show me how to do it here? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Just downgrade to 2.1 with odin then use Z4 root then flash rom that is 2.2 and ur good I recommend trigger amazing speed with better battery life then bionix in my opinion

I'm not familiar with Odin. Where can i download it and where to look for instructions for it?
You can use a pc app called super one click, i used it to root my vibrant after updating through kies. You can find it in the vibrant app and themes section.

I've tried using SuperOneClick but every time i run it, it says no space is available when it's trying to copy some files like busybox. Any idea on how to go about with this?

I've finally got my phone rooted. Thanks for the response guys!
Now on to finding a rom/kernel that has a long battery life, smooth, and gps works. Any recommendations?
Great. Sorry for the late reply but I just saw your pm, anyway glad you got it up and running.
I recommend trigger or the new 2.2.1 Bi-Winning Rom. I've used both of them and TBH the latter is simply the best Rom I've ever ran on my vibrant. Extremely snappy and very smooth.
I never had a problem rooting before but now I cant get super one click to work. I have all drivers installed but when I try to get shell root to get 3e recovery super one click freezes at waiting for device. I rooted using the update.zip format.
SuperOneClick v1.5 worked for me. Froyo 2.2, KA5.

Instead of stock apps you need to use the stock rom from Sony. Try your country and operator specific ROM's from the following link.

Yes but I don't want to lose all my apps and things I have on my phone... Wouldn't this require me to do a recovery install, or??

I'm sorry but why do you need stock apps to update through Sony? It doesn't make sense. What are you trying to do exactly?
I want to update my phone to the latest x10 update, and in order to do that, you need all the original stock apps on your phone like timescape and others which I removed with titanium backup to free up space on m my phone. Somehow, they disappeared from my list of backed up apps, and without those you cannot update through pc companion. So it's REALLY important. I know someone had a thread posted here before with all the stock apps for download, but I can't find it anywhere... Can someone help pls?

No you don't need any stock apps to do an update.
You need to flash a generic firmware with FlashTool and do it with user data wipe unchecked.
I've never used flashtool before, and I want to stick with the regular pc companion updating. Is this possible?
Sent from my X10a using XDA Premium App
It is possible, PC companion/SEUS would just read your phone.
Because I remember the last time I updated, I tried without reinstalling all the stock apps and it just told me there are no updates available. When I reinstalled them, it updated my phone... Thats why it's really important that I get all those apps back...

Then just flash back to stock and check again.
Anyways, I don't think the SEUS or PC companion recognises your phone by reading the apps in it, instead it should read your firmware number, baseband and kernel version.
In flashing back to stock, wouldn't I lose all my current apps though??
Sent from my X10a using XDA Premium App
Yes, and you still don't need any stock apps to do a flash

But I don't want to lose all my apps... Are you sure I don't need the stock apps to update through pc companion? I wonder why it wouldn't update it for me last time until I reinstalled them all... I also remember someone at xda mentioning that you do need them or sony won't update it...

YOU DO NOT NEED STOCK APPS TO UPDATE!!!! Don't you think all of us would be having the same problem as you if that were the case?
You KNOW that even if you flash via PC Companion you will LOSE all your apps and data when you update it right?
Here are your options:
Your phone is rooted right? Download Titanium Backup from the market and backup all your apps. You will have all your apps and data saved. Now update. Once your phone is updated, re-root your phone. Download Titanium Backup again from the Market. Restore your apps and data.
An alternative method is in xrecovery. Backup your current rom in Xrecovery. Once done, update it. Once done, root, install xrecovery and advanced restore your data.
If you want to use PC Companion, without connecting your phone, press update and go through the steps manually, i.e. find your phone and so forth and then connect your phone when it asks you to. If it says you have the latest software, press REPAIR. If that doesn't work, just flash via Flashtool!!!!! If you are so hell bent on using PC companion, just repair via PC Companion after you flashed it with Flashtool.
There have been updates via PC Companion (it's up to v2.0 now) and I think it can tell if you customized your phone a la rooting or custom roms.
Ok thanks. Is using seus better than pc companion? I truthfully want to put gingerbread on my phone, but don't know which rom is best for that on xda... Can you help me? Which is most stable? And how long is the process?? Thanks, much appreciated

Instead of asking and writing here, go try it out. It's much simpler than all this back and forth in questions. It's very simple, start SEUS press accept ToU, chose your device (X10) and do a install. And yes you will lose your data when updating or re-flashing your phone.

[Q] 'Notice - F' : PC fails to recognize the mobile phone

Hi,
Trying to upgrade the firmware of S2 from KE8 to KF3. And at some point of time during download/upgrade of firmware, I am getting this error:

It then asks to remove battery and restart. Tried this, but with no luck.
Can someone please suggest how I can get this done.

You might want to quit those updates you won't get far also many apps and features aren't in those versions. If your looking to upgrade to something newer I suggest android 4.2.2 it is very stable. I don't think you will like many features so I think either my ROM supernexus or cm will be the best for your liking. I recommend supernexus it is very fast and stable. The fascinate has stopped at the android version of 2.3 released by samsung . Developers have made it possible to install later versions not made by Samsung
Idc what android version I've tried everything and nothing works.

I had great luck about a year ago following this thread:

before switching to a cyanogenmod rom. I hope this helps.
Also the latest version of Odin is 3.0.4 -- or something close to that.
when I rooted my fassy back in the day these guides listed above we like gold to me ::good:

the one that came with cm10.1 is the newest one i think. no standalone recovery, on this device you get recoveries by flashing kernels, and there's a nicely compiled list of kernels from different ROMs here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149067
