[Q] Restoring Txt msgs to Vanilla AOSP - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wondering if anyone can help me out... I backed up my text messages with Ti Pro like I have done many times before ( Back up [SMS/MMS/APN]). I usually don't have any trouble restoring my text messages by simply restoring from TI Pro and rebooting. However, This is my first install of Vanilla AOSP VooDoo and when I restore/reboot the messages are cleared, but not restored. Any ideas? Do I need to move the database to a different location? Thanks in advance for the help!
P.S. I'm coming from DJ05 to Vanilla AOSP

I've never trusted TiBu with my SMS or call logs, so I wouldn't know. BUT, you can try reverting back to the ROM you were just on, restoring, then using an app called "SMS Backup & Restore", free on the market. It will backup SMS to an XML file on your SD Card. Then flash back to AOSP and use the same app to restore from file.
Maybe not the answer you were looking for but it's a solid work-around.

Ty for the suggestion! Any other ideas out there? Bump

No other ideas then? It would be interesting to know what went wrong since it will probably apply to cm7 and minuit and the like

If the messages were backed up from the touchwiz mms app, then that's the only app that they are going to restore to.

Back up and restore SMS?

Does anyone know a program (Titanium does it but only for same version android) that can back up and restore SMS (in stock messanger) between different version of android (ie from 2.2 --> 2.3.5)? As stated before, Titanium is fine, but only works when restoring to the same version (ie 2.2 --> 2.2)
Try sms backup and restore from the market. If you use a third party app like gosms it might have an option to backup and restore as well.

Worked flawless for me countless times. +1
SMS Backup works well.
I haven't used it in a while though since I switched to GoSMS (actually Go everything.) GoSMS allows you to easily email it to yourself (populates the To: line and everything) on a scheduled backup. This is nice for those "oops" moments. Like one time I deleted an entire thread instead of one message. Plus I like the Go SMS widgets.
SMS Backup is the best!

Change ROM's without losing everything?

Sorry to bother everyone, but I've been searching the forums for a while now, and I've used some of the really good ROM's that have been designed, however I recently decided to go back to a Stock ROM.
Yet again, like many people I'm sure, I have become bored of the stock ROM and fancy a change.
I've decided to go for the ICS ROM but reached a dilemma.
I don't want to lose everything such as contacts, messages, etc.
I use titanium backup pro, but even that doesn't save them.
I was wondering if there was a way to do this?
Thanks in advance and sorry for babbling on!

Rom as ICS has not yet been released
KIES backups contacts etc .
jje
Okay that confirms I am confused between ROM and Kernal..I think.
& Oh yeah! I didn't even think of using Kies to backup my contacts!
Thanks!

Rom - custom software build for your phone.
Kernel - base software backbone for your phone.
And in terms of flashing a ROM with data still intact, its possible, but it depends on wether or not the ROM wipes your data. Most likely, it will. Now a kernel is easier. As long as it works with the corresponding ROM, you shouldn't have any trouble.

You can do anything with Titanium Backing up to root. Previously with Odin rooting firmware flash
Move contacts to sim card and also remove it when wiping

Also, try these two from the market:
- SMS Backup & Restore
- Call Logs Backup & Restore
Worked great for me.

I store all my contacts on my google account, so everytime I switch roms/handsets, they just sync down.
With sms, you can either backup using an sms backup app, or mybackup pro does it. Neither require root.
Or...what I do is have backup to gmail installed, which auto backs up all my sms and mms to relevant sms and mms folders on my gmail account. That way I have them always, I do also use mybackup pro just so they are also in my messages app.
1. Sync contacts to Skype/Googlemail(google-backup)
2. Sync Messages to Titanium backup/pro
3. Anything Else won't get lost as you can sync things back. like Email and Calendars.
If you keep Notes, copy and paste things to Google Docs, to get them backed up.
Your Apps will get wiped but will install back with your Gmail.
Rest is the application Data, that will be Wiped.. After all you want a new start...
Just backup your apps with Titanium backup and restore after the flash
My contacts are synchronized with gmail and on simcard
Calender is synched with gmail
Thanks a lot guys. This has really helped. I think I'll back my contacts up to G-mail as that's my main concern. Messages being backed up would be helpful, but not necessary.

I find MyBackup works pretty good. It can also restore your MMS pics as well.
Titanium Backup works too. Find "Messages (SMS & MMS)" in the list.
I also like MyBackup. It's very easy on the eyes and does the job. I've restored my sms a couple times flawlessly.
i use Sms backup and restore.. it backs up both you text and pics into a single .xml file.. and it also restores it the way you had it before backing it up. it also checks for and add an duplicate. you cand find the app here on google play https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5yaXRlc2hzYWh1LlNNU0JhY2t1cFJlc3RvcmUiXQ..
I use go backup from go launcher team. Interface is easier

thanks for the suggestions. trying mybackup right now. i tried titanium in the past and for whatever reason restoring the messages data between neo's adrenaline and his aokp realy messes up the system so i've decided to stay away from that. and i like sms backup restore too except for that face that it takes forever

Restore SMS/Call history WITHOUT erasing existing one?

Hej, i'd like to save & then restore sms/call history from a nandroid, however the apps/method i tested erase current one while restoring...
For SMS there's GoSMS Cloud that works, however limit is to 1000 and i've reached it. For call logs, no idea...
I need to send back the phone in few hour so hope someone can help me to find a solution quickly... Thanks!
Not sure if it has a limit, but have you tried Titanium Backup ?
It does erase current one. Please people, help, only got an hour left to save with the right app....

MikROMs Since 3/13/11
Don't find any app called like that... Where do you get it?

Does it have to be from a Nandroid ? If not then you can try My Backup Root.
I have one contact2.db file anf another xml from titanium, i want to merge them for restore.

Please!!!!!!!

Hey there!
It probably is possible to merge it, but I think this is an easier solution:
I use SMSBackup+, it's awesome! (PlayStore link.
Just backup your sms with it, they will get stored into a separate gmail label.
Now restore your old sms (overwrite the current ones) and restore the other ones from SMSBackup+.
Did work like a charm for me in the past.
Thanks, gonna try!

How do I restore texts and apps after flash?

I know this is a newb question,
I backed up using TWRP and flashed Rootbox. This is my first time rooting, unlocking, and flashing a new ROM.
Everything went very swimmingly and I'd like to thank everyone for putting up very simple guides and everyone who made this possible.
I just have a few questions. How do you guys restore your old texts and call logs and apps and whatnot after you flash a new ROM?
I updated everything I could from my google account and got some of my contacts, but I'm missing a bunch.
Thanks!
Edit: Oh ****, my apps are here! Just looking for text and call logs!
Unless you backed up your texts and call log using a third party app such as Titanium Backup or Carbon, they are gone. Most likely your apps where redownloaded through the playstore using googles backup/restore feature.

Seconded. I've been using Carbon to save and restore my messages and call logs without issue.
