Music won't show up on music player app - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running SC 2.9.1. When I try to listen to music, the music players don't locate or the songs don't show up in the play list. When I try the stock player, I get a Vcast error "Would you like to down music"? When I try the music player that comes on SC 2.9.1, nothing shows up in the view. The same thing happens when I use WinAmp. I've renamed the music folder a few times and still no luck.
Should I reinstall SC 2.9 and then 2.9.1 update? Or has anyone else had this problem and solved it?
This is driving me crazy!!!
Thanks

It sounds to me like you may have a .nomedia file on your sdcard. Search for any file named .nomedia that is on your sdcard and delete them, reboot and when media scanner does it thing it'll find your music. I haven't heard this problem from other users so I would suspect that this is the culprit.

It worked!! Thanks for the help. I've been searching and posting for a solution, it you had it.
You are DA MAN!!!
Peace

After I deleted the .nomedia file and rebooted the SF, I was able to see and play the music files. But then I rebooted the SF, the .nomedia files comes back. It keeps doing this everytime I reboot the phone, so this doesn't allow me to play media files. I have to delete the .nomedia files everytime after I reboot to play media files.
Is there an application that will remove .nomedia? Does anyone know a way to remove the file permanantly?
Thanks

Sounds like you have a script that is attempting to speed up your media scanner, I don't know what you have on your phone so I can't help you solve your problem.
I'll make a suggestion though, use an app that makes the Media Scanner scan, for example "Rescan Media Root" which is free on the market. After you delete the .nomedia file, just run the app instead of rebooting. Should be quicker than what you're doing right now. But in regards to stopping the .nomedia file from coming back eventually, dunno.

i love u man !!!! i had this problem for 2 days, i changed every thing but didnt work
thanks aloooooooooot
( happy tears

this solution worked great! thank you so much!

remove ringtones/alarms/notifications from music player

so my dad just started using his vibrant for music, and it annoys the both of us that all of the ringtones show up. I tried the .nomedia file, and that did work for the music player,
but it also made picking the ringtone for the phone impossible.
so is there anyway to do this?

place an empty file called .nomedia in the directories where the ringtones, notifications are.
I do as follow on the linux box
Code:
touch .nomedia
adb push .nomedia /sdcard/media/ringtones/
And so on

apparently you didn't read my post. I didn't use adb, but i created a .nomedia file, and put it in those folders. And it did work, they didn't show up in the music player.
however, it ALSO removed all those files from the entire system. If i go to pick my ringtone, they don't show up, not in the stock picker, or rings extended.
anyone have any ideas?
Back in the days...i had the same issue with the G1.....

I doubt if there is a solution to this, unless someone is hiding it from us. I also only know about the .nomedia file, but it does totally eliminate it from the system and not just from the player. The same thing with the picture Gallery - it shows all the icons and folder.jpg files also = VERY annoying.
As far as I know, it has always been an issue which I only have to live with. - any updates will be appreciated, please.

I use an appacalled ES File Explorer to do any file management.
the .nomedia files appear to hide files from the gallery, music player and video player apps when that "media search" occurs upon disconnecting USB or powering up. Doesn't seem to remove them from the system.
Using the file explorer above I can very simply navigate to and play/view any such media in with whatever player I wish to. Suggesting trying ES file explorer out.

interesting, i'll give this a shot. I know manually adding the .nomedia file through windows or astro kills it from the entire system, except obviously for file managers.
well i tried creating a .nomedia file there, same thing.
but i really do like the UI of that app, so i guess the best thing to do now is just put .nomedia files everywhere and use that app to find my ringtone.
The album covers can all be hidden from gallery by calling the files AlbumArt.jpg - Im still looking for answer to hide music from player

Sammy music player

Hi guys,
I dont know if already mentioned,i put some songs in my sd card(internal and external) I played few songs with sammy music player and then I deleted one cd (one folder).i opened again the music player and I still can see the deleted songs. If I try to play them it says "file does not exist".The only way to remove them is by deleting inside the music player or after rebooting phone.I initially deleted songs from root explorer.Whats going wrong?also tried the poweramp with same results. Is it the deleting or adding real time?
Same issue with video player.I played an avi file, deleted and its still in videos list.Any idea what am I doing wrong?

Im guessing that when you delete something with root explorer the phone wont re-scan the media but with the stock file manager it does. I dont know if theres an option in the setting to rescan media but I know that there are apps in the market that can be used to do that. I use Extented Controls and with it you can have a media scan button in a widget.

[Q] Music Player isn't working.

Hey i have only just purchased my Galaxy10 tablet, i have put a few songs on it but it still says in the 'music player' that there are 0 songs. I am able to listen to these songs individually in 'my files' but i cannot open anything else up (e.g. i cant listen to music while working on polaris office).
Is there something im missing that will easily fix this? or is it a problem with all the galaxy tabs.
Thanks, Nic.
I mentioned thi in your other post, but make sure the music is placed in where the player looks for music. I had this issue with different players looking in different folders and not showing ones the other players would. There's another suggestion in the other post, but I forget what it was. something about clearing the cache in settings/apps/music player you're using. I think.

thanks for the reply, i have tried moving my files around, still no luck. I also read the other suggestion on my other post and i cleared the cache/data of the music player and still didnt make a difference. ill continue trying to fix it though, and hopefully will eventually get it .
Thanks Heaps for putting me that one step closer, Nic.
Post what music player you're using. That will help too.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using one finger.
im using the one that came with it, which is 'Music Player'. I also tried using 'Winamp' but still had no success, if you know of any better apps to use for this it would be greatly appreciated.
any one have any other suggestions on what i could do to fix this problem??
It would be helpful to know where the files are located and what format they are.
Also try moving your music to /sdcard/Music.
hey, umm all my music is in .mp3 format. and the music is in 'my files/music'.
would it make a difference if i used itunes to sync the music from my pc to the tablet? (at the moment i am using 'windows media player' which is up to date)
is your tab rooted? if so, try use root explorer, find the folder and make sure there is no .nomedia file in that folder.if so, delete it and try open music player back
Shouldn't matter, no. Move it to the folder I said and see what happens. Music player is probably looking for them to be in that folder.
ssss
hey, I had the same issue. the fix is simple, go to apps--> Music player and you'll find you music there. if you open the music player in the tray on the bottom of the tablet you wont find your music.

[Q] Lost Music

Recently i changed my ROM and since then all music apps, including stock, says i only have a few songs on whereas Astro File manager shows i have all my albums and i can only listen to them through there, not a normal music app. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks ;D
What Rom you on?if miui go to music folder in settings but if still you have nothing You can try this app available on Google play
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=media+scanner+
Im on FeraVolt v16 but the problem occurred when I tried v13 I think
il download the app and see what is says
Thanks
Anyone be able to shed some light on how I can get my music back?
What media players have you tried?
Even have you checked permissins to the music folders if there are readable and writable for all?
Iv tried stock music player, DoubleTwist, Meridian, AMP? maybe some others? and none of them could 'see' most of the songs. I know they are on the card in the music folder, would i maybe need to move them to a new one? The music apps can see 7 songs, but i have alot more on my card :/
Try MortPlayer - It is folder based (I love it, because play randomly by files,to albums etc...). Run it and select you music folder to scan it and see it it will be seen.
Il try that once my phone has charged fully, i ordered a new one after mine started to fail :/ should i delete battery stats after the charge to 100% do you think?
I think that it is not necessary if you wont observe some kind of strange reportings of battery level.
Thanks for the recommendation, MortPlayer seems to be working well. Just trying to gte the correct ablum arts now
You should be fine by rebooting the phone, if not then try wiping cache data and dalvik

Anytime
Use TCM musicTag Editor - simple and usable
Mortplayer uses the covers inside the music files or in their directory for eg. album art. Similar like dekstop players.
But still cant understand why other players cant recognize other music, as mentioned before, try reboot and even the wipe data of "Media provider".

Hey guys, I done goof'd....

This is kind of a two part problem, but related.
So my gallery no longer shows Any thumbnails, and music player lists no songs on my phone. Even though I know that they are all there.
I need your help guys, I'll try to state as clearly as I can as to what I did.
I downloaded an app called "sd maid" a couple days ago to"clean" my sd card. While in it, I navigated to the "system cleaner" option and proceeded to clean it out. I ended up cleaning out the gallery thumbnail and music thumb folders (this is where I goof'd), and this is where my problem comes up.
My gallery no longer shows ANY thumbnails. I've tried to fix it by clearing gallery cache and restarting the phone. No go. I've reflashed the Rom(slim bean 4.2) and nothing. Funny thing is that all my photos including thumbnails show up in quickpic, but not in stock gallery.
Music player is the same thing, I open it and none of my files show up, but if I navigate to the file using root explorer, I can listen to the song. I downloaded double twist player to see if it was just the stock player not working, and its not. Double twist doesn't seem to be able to list my songs either.
So I done goof'd... What else do I do guys? Do you think this is recoverable?

Use a file explorer to look for a file call .nomedia you will need to show hidden files. If you fine said file anywhere up stream from your media delete it. Then reboot.
