What did I do? - Atrix 4G Themes and Apps

Arranging Icons on the desktop (or whatever the main window is called, sorry, I'm a 'droid rookie) isnt very user friendly. With my iPhone, if I wanted to move an app to a different location, the rest of the icons would get pushed out of the way. Last night, I did something and I was able to get the same results. Today, it's back to not pushing the icons. I'm guessing there is a setting that enables this but I cant seem to find. I did install a myriad of apps last night so maybe one of those enables that functionality?

It's the MotoBlur that allows you to "push" other icons/widgets out of the way because I believe stock Android just wouldn't let you put it somewhere occupied. Are you using a different launcher now? That would keep it from working.

What launcher do you have? If it's the default launcher I'm pretty sure it pushes them outta the way...I'm not sure though. But I have ADW launcher and it's kind of a pain, if I want to move one widget or icon into an other ones place and there's no room, I have to move it to an empty home screen and then slide in the other one...
Oh, and no there is no setting for this...

I have the Go Launcher right now but I may have had a different one last night (I'm working on 2 hours of sleep for the last 48 period so I'm kind of a zombie right now). I just checked the wifes phone and it does push the icons. I did an sbf recovery and reinstalled gingerblur 6.5 yesterday and I think it started working AFTER I installed a launcher but I could be full of it. What that launcher may have been, I have no idea

[Q] Using the default "home portal" with TNTLite?

Forgive my ignorance here. I bought the GTab from Woot solely to learn about Android and tablets, I just got my ipad2 and thats the one I planned on getting the most use out of, but honestly I thought it would be good to have an Android tablet in the house.
Of course, the default OS was painful, so I put on TNTLite and ran some apps and was pretty happy. I haven't used it much since. I am still trying to find a way to stream video to the tablet (and hopefully someday out to my TV, to retire my laptop).....and am not sure which app to use. For Ipad I can use Air Video Server.
BUT ANYWAYS...
The default portal screen on TouchNTap was, I thought, pretty cool....weather, news links and time with your apps available on the bottom row.
Tell me, is there a similar type of portal app you can use on the Gtab? Is there a way to make it just be an alarm clock or a picture frame until you pick it up and want to start using it as a tablet?
TNTLite is cool, and I installed ADWLauncher (I think that is the name), but all I am seeing is now a windows desktop-looking thing. Can you use that front-end with TNTLite? Or is it just adding widgets to a "home screen" like a clock, calendar, web browser, etc.
Thanks!
Take a look at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854175
If you want to alter TNT Lite to your liking, it's actually fairly straightforward - once you understand the layout.
When that firmware is run, it layers on a 100% stock image first, then I make the alterations later. You can alter either the updater-script (where the deletions are) or the /system folder (where the additions are) to tweak it to your liking. For example, if you want to keep the TNT launcher, just delete this line from the updater-script:
Code:
delete("/system/app/HomeScreen.apk");
That would add the TNT homescreen back, on the next firmware flash. This is just an example.

You don't need a "similar" portal app unless you just want it. Just sideload (move the files from your PC to the sdcard via USB cable and then click/install the apks from the sdcard) the original HomeScreen.apk, Weather.apk, Clock.apk, and News.apk - then use the Home Switcher to switch to the Viewsonic HomeScreen - if you want that to be your default.
I've done this since TNTL 2.0 because I also like the look and the options.
Other apk's that will fit into the default HomeScreen package are GroceryList and TaskManager. MediaPlayer will also go into the Viewsonic HomeScreen.
In case you didn't back up the original VS default portal files - I've attached them.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes the original VS portal.
Thank you
I'm going to be messing with this to see if I can get it to work......however, I do have one question, and its off topic:
Is there any way to put the Gtab into sleep mode the way that an ipad goes to sleep, so you just tap the screen to wake it up? Or have it so that way it has a permanantly on clock display or a rotating picture frame function with clock?
I'd like to buy the dock for it, but not if I have to hold the power button to wake it up all the time, I realize its a little thing but it is somewhat an annoyance.

Home Clock Settings and Agenda on Home Screen

My Rezound seems to offer no way to change the Home Clock. I can add clocks, but I can't change or delete this one clock that is set to Arizona. I turned off Location Settings, too, but I still have the one Arizona clock (presumably because that's where Verizon ships from).
I am also trying to show a summary of a few scheduled activites on my Home screen, to no avail. It seems useless to me to have a Calendar widget that only shows one activity, because I would think people would want to see at least a few so they know what their day might be like, without having to always click on something. I know I have the option to select different views; trouble is that the other views are too big to be allowed to fit on the Home screen.
Any help in these areas would be greatly appreciated.
FWIW, I don't know how Android got to be so popular. Although it LOOKS cool, it seems very clunky trying to find things (things are often not sensibly placed), and the stuff like changing a clock or displaying activities should be easier to do. Perhaps I am missing something? :crying:
That is a bug in the stock HTC CLOCK.
I live in upstate NY and my clock insists I am in new York city (if I use current location) and there is absolutely no way to delete that location.
I have tried deleting and reinstalling the clock etc and NYC just keep reappearing no matter what I do.
If I go to edit where it should be possible to delete NYC it isn't even listed.
This phone has been out for how long now? I run a software company myself, and there's no way we'd let a simple little bug like that ruin our reputation, never mind leaving our customers frustrated for this long. In fact, we'd have fixed something like that within days!
Thanks for letting me know that I spent nearly 20 hours on this phone, trying to figure it out. Do you happen to know if there is anything like a registry editor or something we can use to edit settings under the hood?
What about having an agenda listing on the Home screen, like Windows Mobile used to have? Know anything settings that might allow that? Or, am I wasting my time, there, too? I mean, first the clock, then I beat my head against the wall trying to get my Windows Media Player playlists to go across with HTC Sync, only to give up and manually copy them using "disk drive" mode. That's actually almost worse than the clock thing, in that HTC Sync offers the playlist option, but doesn't even see them on the PC!
For the calendar, which widget are you using. If you are using the one that is only 1 grid tall, that one is only made to show 1. If you need more than 1 event, just use the larger calendar widget.
Problem is that the other larger sized widgets aren't allowed to be place on the Home Screen, because a message says there is not enough room. SIGH

Tap the home button while on the Sense Rosie homescreen to bring the view out to display up to all 7 panels of the launcher. If you don't have all 7 active you have an option to add a panel. You may also delete an entire panel at once by tapping and holding the panel, then dragging to Delete. This allows you to add a fresh blank panel afterwards.
Alternatively, choose a panel to clear out manually. Tap and hold on icons and widgets until you enter an editing mode where you may reposition items or drag to the Delete icon.
It is simply wanting you to add a panel and/or clear out clutter manually first to ensure it doesn't delete your existing items.
Also note the Play Store has other launchers available you can try instead of HTC's Sense. Some allow more homescreens, but you will lose use of the widgets exclusive to the Sense interface. Some have comparable widgets integrated and there are apps with widgets in the Play Store too. It is suggested to get a feel for the stock Sense launcher a bit longer though.
Apologies for the double post, but wanted to address each topic seperate and Multi-Quote after the fact.

Take this with a grain of salt since I'm unfortunately running Sense 4 and not 3.5 or 3.6 right now. But I believe there should be a setting if you tap on the clock widget on your homescreen, go to the World Clock tab and hit the Menu button. If not there, then *somewhere* with the Menu for World Clock, perhaps when you select Edit if not the first option. If someone else could chime in on this.

A note to both of you: as far as this World Clock tab is concerned, this is precisely how a traditional traveler's clock works. It makes more sense when you realize the Home Clock is meant as the Home Time Zone. Just as when you set a time zone on a PC or forum, it usually just provides a list of major cities to choose from. I will say Sense 4 shows the current location in addition to this "Hometown" and unsure about older Sense but again, the primary function of World Clock is "nearby major city's timezone + time zones across other frequented or contacted locations."
Now jmoreton10, if the *weather* widget isn't showing your proper location, there is an issue with your Location settings. While the World Clock only can add and locate major cities, Weather should be able to tell where you are exactly by zip code. I may have had issues like that with both Verizon and Google location on; try using just Google location if you confirm Weather is not showing current location properly.

I don't think you understand what we're saying, or maybe we don't understand what you're saying. The Home clock does NOT display MY home. It displays someone else's home... in Arizona. I am in California. Moreover, the Home clock cannot be edited or deleted on the Home screen. However, if I add a traveler clock to ANOTHER panel/desktop/screen, I can choose what cities I want on it upon adding the widget, but once again, once the widget is added, if I click on the clock, I see the same Arizona Home clock in addition to the other cities I added. IIRC, Arizona does not change times when we "spring ahead" or "fall back" like we do here in CA. So, I think that kills your theory of a nearby major city in the same time zone, doesn't it? Same with those people seeing Detroit when they live in NY. Personally, I am really starting to hate Arizona!
New phone came in. Don't know if there's a difference, but it appears that there is a way to change the Home Clock. It's not very intuitive, but:
Click on the Clock Widget. On World Clock, choose the Menu button. Click Home Settings. Type your City, or SUPER HUGE MAJOR CITY nearby. Type VERY slow, because there is a very limited number of cities. If you type too fast for the app, it will give you a "not found" error. Dumb, I know, but at least we all now know WTH is wrong with this thing.

[Q] Stock Webtop Application Tray Icons

Im interested in customizing the app tray (dock), and im interested in removing and rearranging some of the icons, which motorola says you cant do. A few months ago, i was using webtop2sd but i decided to try using the stock webtop due to it running faster, and im not confident enough to install something like gentop.
Now when i installed webtop2sd, it put 2 icons in the middle of the dock. These icons can no longer be used, i want to remove them, and possibly rearrange the other icons.
Im assuming someone has to know how to edit the app tray, so can someone point me in the right direction here? Thank you!
I haven't seen a way to remove them. My problem is that there are a number of android apps that don't have a corresponding icon in the webtop panel, even though they have an icon on the notification bar.
for whatever reason, the awn-manager starting working for me! Its an app that was put there by webtop2sd when I was using it (currently running webtop from phone now),its never worked for me before, perhaps messing with the TOYOMOTO (or w/e its called) linux when fixing the Java did something to make it work.
With that app,I can control the icons on the dock.
Now my current problem: I deleted all of the separators, I did this because I thought they were buggy, when moving them on the list, they would not actually move on the dock. So I deleted them, rebooted the phone, and they were finally gone. I then realized the phone might need a reboot for their placement to take effect.
So my question: What is the command to add to the New Launcher dialog to add in a separator?

[Q] Themer not registering touches reliably.

Im running Themer on my Moto X (stock) and sometimes it takes several attempts for a touch to register to open a given module. (Favorites, camers, etc.)
Sometimes it works ok, but sometimes the screen seems unresponsive to touch. I had it show touches in dev options but even 'direct hits' don't register and open whatever the icon is supposed to open. This seems to occur across themes. I do have widgets locked.
Am I missing something here or is this normal?

Hi,
Try uninstalling Themer - delete the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/ folder (removing the Exported folder within it if you saved any themes) - then reinstall Themer.
Let us know if that helps!
I have the same problem, both before and after doing what is suggested above. The pretty themes with really small or really close selections are the worst at it.
Thank you for responding, I'll give that a try. Though it is possible that with some themes with small target zones may contribute to the issue.
Thank you!

Shades of green and coordinate are two perfect examples. I'm using a rooted Nexus 5 running droid Kang. Beautiful themes, but even with the screen showing presses I can be pressing right on something and it doesn't pick it up.

Thanks for the heads up, will speak to the developers and see what they can do.
I experience the same problem on my Note II running PA.
Is there an official place to request features
Same thing, doesn't seem dependent on theme (happens across all themes I've tried), T-Mo Galaxy Note 3 running stock 4.4.2 (unrooted)
It's hit & miss, sometimes everything works, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 presses before it registers. Seems to be memory related because it generally only happens when returning to the home screen after leaving another app that uses a significant portion of RAM, though I do not have actual evidence of this.

I believe this will solve the non-registering touches.
I don't think it's grid/sensitivity related, I really think it's the RAM issue.

On my device it appears to be related to adding the dock feature or persistent search box. Adding either appears to cause the problem and then removing them causes the problem to be alleviated. I ran up my RAM usage to near 90% without any problems (without the dock or search).
Another bug I would love to see fixed is Themer retaining the dock and search features when applying a new theme. It is annoying having to reconfigure the options and add everything back to the dock each time.
Edit:
I'm going to add my feature requests/changes here since I can't find a specific thread for it.
App drawer:
Horizontal or vertical scroll options perhaps with a paginated option for both
Allow Themer icon to be swapped for the play store icon
Allow for the removal of the tabs at the top entirely
Launcher screens:
Allow custom smart categories and/or folders to be used by widgets (maybe the news icon could open a folder or category I've created to show all my news apps instead of launching the themer news app only)
Allow reordering of home screens (perhaps even allow adding multiple themes at one time next to each other)
Retain custom added home screen folders and icons when changing themes
Give end user access to icons used by the theme so when customizing an icon I can use one built into my theme (I like the dialer in my dock but I would love to use my theme's dialer icon instead of the default android one)
As mentioned above:
Retain dock and persistent search options between themes but also allow themes to better resize when those options are selected (some themes get cut off slightly or the aspect ratio gets out of whack)
Hopefully that doesn't sound too demanding. I'm just trying to help make an awesome concept better

Agreed (Bold), I would like the notification bar auto-hide to stay selected when I change themes. However, because each theme requires a different configuration to work/look properly, this might not be ideal.
For me, the problem only happens when the launcher is trying to "catch up". This indicates a memory issue IMO. Anytime the launcher is fully loaded and I'm on the main home screen(s), I do not experience any issues registering touch.
Perhaps that is the problem then. I don't use Themer as a daily driver just yet because there are a few thing I need sorted out first. The touch issue in this thread being one of them. Folder/custom smart categories, mentioned in my edit above, are another.
This also happens when I use the gesture system(Swiping up/down). Personally this is the least fluid launcher I have ever used, sad seeing that its my favorite.
I know themer is still beta but this problem has been happening for a long time now.
On the gestures, I agree there is definitely an issue.
When attempting to do the "two fingers down" or "two fingers up", it generally triggers the "pinch in" gesture. This is the only launcher I have experienced this problem with. It's not make-or-break as I know it's beta, but accurate gestures are very important to me with the way I use my phone.
I expect these will get fine tuned before they transition out of beta
I'll have to rescind my former statement(s). I did more testing
There are definitely issues with touch not registering on some themes. As I tried more and more themes, I started to see it more and more. And it's bad. 2-3 times minimum to get the touches to register, especially on the Tron looking theme (I forget it's name). There are many more themes with this issue as well, and it appears over time the more cache/data stored in the MyColorScreen folder, the less responsive the launcher becomes. It got to the point of being unusable until I uninstalled, deleted the folder and reinstalled.
This, coupled with the intense RAM usage and pretty aggressive battery drain (10-12% daily, minimum) and I have to hold off on using Themer for now.
I'm not against sacrificing one or two minor things, but to sacrifice device response + RAM + Battery is too much just to use Themer. I will wait and watch and as improvements are made I will reinstall and retry.

Hi,
Could you possibly provide us with some more details? What device/Android version/ROM are you using?
Also, which themes are doing this?

[Q] Themes with folders?

I got Themer today, and I really love how a lot of them look, but I ended up sticking with my plain stock because I like to have most things on the home screen in folders. I tried making a folder, but it didn't work.
Are there any themes that incorporate folders? Did I just do it incorrectly or are they not an option? I realize you can go into apps, and then use the categories, but I'd much rather have them on my home screen.
Plus, if I have an app, like my flashlight, that I really need on my home screen for accessibility, it's kind of obnoxious against the pretty, cohesive theme, and sticks out. If there was a folder I could stick it in on the home screen that matched the rest of the theme, it would look better. Does that make sense? I might just be rambling now.
It's a really cool app though, I like that you can do these things without rooting, I didn't realize that was possible. (My noob is showing... )

Hi Lumosx,
With Themer, there are multiple ways of adding folders.
First, you can drag and drop apps from the app drawer onto one you've already added. To do this:
1. Drag an app onto the app drawer that you'd like in your folder.
2. Then drag another app next to it; a popup may appear asking you to unlock widgets.
3. Select Yes and open the Desktop menu and deselect Lock homescreeen Icons.
You're now able to drag icons into one another, creating folders accordingly.
Alternatively, you can use Smart Category folders. These are the categories you see in the app drawer, and adding one of these does come with some advantages. To add one:
1. Long press on the homescreen > Advanced > Desktop > Unlock homescreen Icons.
2. Long press on the homescreen > Smart Categories > choose your preferred category.
3. Tap the icon > Select the overflow icon (3-dot icon) > Manage, in order to manually add/remove apps.
Now this category will be saved for every theme that you use.
To change the look of a folder (with both methods), long press on the icon > Edit > then select an icon either from selected packs or a simple image. Let us know if you need to find an image/icon to match your theme.
Hope this helps!
-Marco
I got it to work, thank you very much! I'm very happy with it now.
One more question: The only issue I have now is that there's one particular widget that tells me it's already added when I try to put it on the screen, but it's not actually there. Do you know what the problem could be? It came with the phone (Walkmate) if that matters.

What's your device and the widget called? We want to see if we can replicate this issue.
Also does it happen with all themes or one specific theme?
Lastly, is there room for the widget? What may happen is that a widget might take up the whole screen, not allowing for any widgets to be added. Deleting all the widgets on the page and try to add this widget will help us figure out what's causing the problem.
I have a Galaxy S3, the widget is Walkmate. It should fit, it's small and I have at least half the screen free. I tried when the screen was blank as well. The theme is Frosted Glass. I tried using a random theme as well and it still didn't work (it was Hi-Tech).
It's not a huge issue or anything.
