I have noticed that when trying to connect my Thunderbolt through USB and use the USB tethering option it turns the phone data off defeating the whole purpose. It works fine with the hotspot, but not the USB.
Was that disabled by Verizon? Any fix or am I doing something wrong?
You mean connecting via internet pass through mode?

No, Internet pass through is to connect the phone to the Internet via PC. I mean the opposite - Internet Connection Mode - where you share the phone's mobile network with the PC through USB. When selecting that, the phone stops displaying 4G or any data icon and the PC shows that it is disconnected from the Web.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking but not what I said.
That's the correct behavior from the phone. It prevents you from doing data on your phone I believe but your laptop or whatever works perfectly. That's how it acted when I tethered at Buffalo Wild Wings yesterday while watching the tourney.
Thanks. I'll try again, then.

Hi,
I don't have wifi at home, but I wanna do some surfing on my laptop, without being connected to Internet with wires.
So I got an idea: why don't I use the wifi router program on my HD2? I can connect it to my desktop computer (it's connected to the internet with a wire), and then turn it into a wifi router. But apparently it only works with GPRS to Wifi, not Active Sync to wifi.
Is it possible to do?

So you are trying to do this:
PC -> HTCHD2 (Wifi Router)-> Laptop
Sorry I'm not sure if you can do that.
If you have 3G, it should be sufficient and you can charge the phone while using it as a router. Hopefully someone else can spread more light on this subject.

You need wmwifirouter for that.

I've been using the latest release of Tesla Coil, which really is a great ROM and I have had no problems up until now.
I have been tethering just fine via USB, using HTC's Internet Connection Mode whilst we change ISPs, but for some reason this morning it refuses to work.
I plug in the USB cable, I get the prompt on the phone and select ICM and then... nothing! The device isn't detected by Windows 7 (it had been coming up as HTC Ethernet Adapter 9k, or something similar.)
I tried enabling it by going into Settings -> Wireless & Networks - Internet Connection Mode, I check the box, get the little Mobile Hotspot prompt and then ICM becomes unchecked again.
I'm pretty new to Android and really, I solved my problem by using Barnacle Wifi Tether, but I really want to learn why this has happened and how to fix it
somehow before i connected to the internet is fine, but now when i did flash my phone and try to connect. it says that i am connected but i am not getting any internet from it

Hey everybody. So i had my bootloader unlocked and the phone deleted everything like i had it repaired through sony companion. I work with ethernet and there are no accesible WiFi networks near me so i connect my phone to the internet via USB cable. When i try to open google play it asks for google account,so i choose enter an existing email and it forces my phone to enter a wifi network! Does anyone know how can i bypass it? Thanks (XPERIA P)

Maybe you are going wrong with the connect phone to internet via USB cable as doing that would allow you to connect to internet on your computer using your mobile data services (which is also called USB Tethering) and not the other way round (this means Reverse Tether).
Which is why your phone keeps asking you to connect to a wifi network.
In this case, you can do 2 things.
1) (Preferred Method) just enable your mobiles data service to let it connect to internet then it won't ask for connecting to a wifi network.
2) (Not so Preferred) you can google for a software to let you reverse Tether your computer net connection to your mobile and connect to mobile.

Uhm sorry i didnt make it clear. I am using reverse tethering when i mean via USB cable but again it asks for entering a wifi net!
broadcast your internet connection from your PC using "Connectify-me" as a WiFi connection, just give a try !
because i doubt whether its uses a Ad-Hoc network, been a while since i used it that way.

I tried but i have bricked my laptops wifi. even with drivers the problem persists. Can't use it without wifi. But why i am supposed to open wifi? Omg im using reverse tethering jesus!
Ok let me try to explain.
I DON'T want to use my 4g to do USB tendering. What I want is while my phone is connected to my home wifi I want to use that wifi that is on my phone and connect it to my laptop via USB tedering.
Reason being, my laptops wifi is messed up but not the lan. I don't want to use all my phone data so I want to grab the home Internet with my phone and use my phone as a direct line to my laptop without using 4g.
Hopefully I didn't confuse anyone. Does anyone know if there is a tool like that somewhere.

if you enable the usb tethering, wifi will be turned off, the only way is to use lan cable. connect your laptop to your wifi modem with lan cable, it has at least one lan port.
