EDIT: thank you for the link to the ROM, now I need help with rooting!
Anyone know the best & easiest way to root (and add xRecovery) the Mini Pro on 2.0.A.0.504?
cheers
original post:
My wife has an X10 Mini Pro, she really wants 2.2 for the addition features and apps only available to 2.2 (push notifications in Facebook, real time tracking in Latitude etc).
It's not rooted, but that shouldn't be too difficult (edit: me & my big mouth!), I've rooted G1 (a few in the olden days when it was more difficult!), Magic (adb), Desire, San Fran, Tab and Milestone as well as others.
I just wondered if there was a decent 2.2 (or even 2.3) ROM available, preferably one where the battery will do better than the stock 2.1 (it currently lasts 10 hours - 8am until 6PM and then turns off every day)
any advice appreciated
oh, and it needs to have WiFi, LED, 3G, flash, camera, video, keyboard light (used a lot at night in bed in dark when kids aren't sleeping well) etc working

Is there an easy way to root?
I have found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950324
but the phone she has is on Build number 2.0.A.0.504, not v2.1.1.A.0.6 as the tutorial requires
Z4root is the easiest way for rooting .504, but for floyo you need .0.6.

Yup, you need to upgrade to .0.6. You could root the new firmware with SuperOneClick or use Bin4ry's Flashtool.
You can upgrade into .6 by using PC companion
or
by using xrecovery, and restore a .6 backup file.
I first upgraded to 2.1.1.A.0.6 with PC Companion, and after that rooted with superoneclick.
It works fine.
Use this xRecovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878427
Before installing custom ROMs, do a full backup via xRecovery!!

Good Day!
Well, Sprite Backup is not working and I took the backup using Sprite Backup. Second issue, Phonebook not showing the contacts, despite the fact that I tried many times. The contacts are restored as evident from the Messaging, as I can select the recipient, however, the Phonebook is showing "No Contacts".
Can anybody help? especially a way to install Sprite Backup.
i wrote to Sprite backup support so lets see what they answer, but i did backup with SE backup and restore (UI seems the same as on Sprite ) even with MyBackup pro, gmail backup etc...
Try to check your google account Contact if u have contacts in different group then My Contact it would do the restore, at least i havent figure it out how to pick Group to restore as on 1.6 version
Well, apparently for me, i'm not able to remount via adb.. getting "mount: Operation not permitted" any ideas? anyone?
Restarts
damn my phone is restarting when I switch to any map application. Wisepilot, GMaps it either will not connect or it will restart and this process is draining the battery like crazy..
Before I used to press hold on a message I could add the contact, now I can't why the hell did they take this out?

Ok, how you get the latest back up and restore app.
1 download a barcode scanner app from the market.
2 load up pc companion
3 select update software
4 in the disclaimer about updating it advices you to back up all personal data, with in that there is a link to get the latest version of back up and restore from SE website.
5 follow the link and scan the barcode with your phone from the website
6 it should now download and then install it.
7 should be done. This works, I did it earlier and im still on 1.6 and I now have the newest one that backs up play now and market links.
This should be easy aslong as your comfortable with all the above steps, piece of cake honestly

Hi guys,
I've updated to 2.1 and so far I found the battery to last less than 1 day, when in 1.6 (024 FIRMWARE) this would last like 2 full days with normal usage....
For sure somethings going on here... which applications might be the cause??

Apparently its meant to get much better after you let the battery run out and next boot up its meant to improve after that. I'm sure I read it on one of the various 2.1 threads on here

Your r right that its faster but not stable theres too many carshes happend
in every 85 min. and some apps do not open when u use them too many times
you have to force close them
and there still some bugs like:
1.airplane mode cant undo when i mark it
2.the camera sucks poor Quality + video HD doesnt work
3.phone restart's after heavy using
4.Led (Color: Green) sometimes stays on when i turn off the screen?!
But Sony's 2.1 Stock is so stable and fast (After Rooting & removing unessary app) that im willing to give up 2.2 & adobe flash
The only thing that adobe flash is able to play without laging is youtube
Try (online double wires) it sucks on the phone 2.2.1
the only thing i liked about the freex10 is that you can import Cyanogen setting
spesialy the pin code password in the unlock screen.

u right , but there have many rom that improved and and problem corrected....give a patient then...
Ok guys, as per the title can you please recommend a rom for me to use?
I've been using Cyanogen 6 which performed wonderfully, but I need to use an app which relies on the barcode reader app, so I've had to switch back to the stock 2.1 ROM.
Urgh...
I'd forgotten how poorly the thing performs... I switched back yesterday and I don't know if it is connected but my battery life is rubbish too :/
So, I'm looking for a nice lite rom which will let me use the barcode scanner app. Doesn't really have to have anything else, if it has no market I could flash it from xRecovery I guess and download whatever I need?
TIA!

First, why post something like this in Android Dev section?! You should've posted in Q&A. Perhaps the mods'll be so nice to move this thread.
Second, if you want full functionality (camera, HD recording, ...), you can switch to a speed mod like the one from kxhawins. These mods are based on stock ROM and everything works here.
Besides that, there's an barcode scanner app on the market that works with most of the custom ROMs, but I don't remember the name. You could try the search button, though
Cheers,
qwer23
Baaaaad sections post your questions in q&a not hear !!!!!
You can use the barcode scanner "scanlife" with custom roms as well, like freex10. That is my personal preference, camera works, barcode scanner works with that app (scanlife), videocamera works with an app called "videocam illusion", and it gets awesome quadrant and linpack scores (1500 and 36 respectively)...
Can't you take a photo with Vignette (working fine on rendeiro's Cyanogen Rom) and import it into a barcode reader ?
Really 2.1 custom Roms despite being waaay better than the stock cannot match 2.2 Roms in performance.
Ah unfortunately the app I'm using leverages 'barcode scanner' app so I can't really use another scanner (tried Scanlife as suggested).
Importing via Vignette isn't really a convenient or speedy option unfortunately.
Think I might have to switch back to a 2.2 rom and work round it, can't stay on stock 2.1 after tasting 2.2 lol

Hi everyone,
I must point out that I am pretty new to the whole custom ROM thing, I still have the stock ROM and everything on my xperia x10,
so my question is which ROM gives the best performance (ie less lag, good battery life, not many bugs, etc)? and can you give me simple instructions on how to install it because I don't want to screw something up and brick my phone, please?
Also when having a custom ROM installed, are you able to implement (install) patches given out by sony ericsson or you just follow the forum and wait for the developer of the ROM to make a patch, and if there's a patch from the developer how do you install it? (I presume you can't install the patches from sony ericsson, I'm just asking). And how often does the developer release the patches?
And do I have to delete everything with a factory reset from my phone before I do ANYTHING? at which step should it be done? can I backup everything using backup and restore program that's already aboard the x10 and restore it later, or the program will disappear when I install a custom ROM? if it wont, will it bring back my sms and mms effectively, and applications too?

+1 for wolfbreak's
Hi there, as you can see from my post count, I'm pretty new to this as well. I've only tried wolfbreak so far but am amazed at it's stability. As far as I've seen you will lose SMS etc however lots of things can be saved to the cloud, so first thing I'd do is make sure all contacts are marked as Google sync
I initially found the flashing to be problematic, but that was mostly because I was an idiot and failed to notice that the flashing software also adds functions such root access and xrecovery when the phone is NOT in flash mode. Since. Then I've been able to upgrade to the latest version (06) without even using a computer. Simply downloading the file onto my phone, moving it with the included file manager and rebooting to the recovery menu
I know have a faster more responsive phone with lots of added features such as Flash, Voice Search and loads more customization options. IMHO well worth the twenty minutes or so it will initially take
Make a note of your favourite apps as well, as the market only remembers paid for apps not your free ones, but for me the change over was pretty seamless and after only a day and a half with it am more than happy. So much stuff is held within the cloud that setting back up isn't the mega ballache it seems before doing it
Wolfbreak's ROM is the most 'fun' to use, the most tweaks avaliable
TripnMIUI's ROM is one you need if you just want your phone to work. Also, it has an iphone-like look (IMO I hate it, but some people like it)
Jereplea's Gingerbread mod is for those who want to be active in making the ROM better and test Gingerbread and custom kernels. It's not really that stable, but it's getting better by the day and it's the most updated ROM.
IMO those are the 3 big ROMS, there are smaller ones and you're free to check them out, they're pretty good too, but those are just my opinions on the top 3 ROMS.

another +1 for tripnmiui's rom, pretty well featured
for me TripNMiui is always the best
TripNMiui with custum kernel
I'd say Wolfbreak's so far...
It runs flawlessly...
I've been testing many custom ROMs for a while, and up to now, the ones I liked the most are TripNMiUI's and Wolfbreak's ones. It's hard even to pick up one of them... TripNMiUI's has a great visual and is very clean. Wolfbreak's, in the other hand, works flawlessly and very stable, and I love that ARC's style.
Actually, I'm using Wolfbreak's now.

Or use the app Titanium Backup to restore all apps and data when switching. Works like a charm for me.
I am probably late to the game but didn't see this anywhere so thought I would just mention - I just flashed this Gingerbread based ROM real quick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092565 and then flashed the APK mentioned here http://www.xda-developers.com/android/skype-2-available-for-other-devices/ and made a quick test call from my netbook to my Streak - It wasn't perfect (could be due to slow network connection and not doing a clean install of the new ROM) but anyway, it did work.
So I just did a quick video call to my parents and confirmed that it works very well - I was also able to switch from the front camera to the back camera.
Asking because I don't know; What is the difference between Skype and Fring? Fring all day with my kids and seems to be the same as what you just did with your parents.
do you need gingerbread for this to work?
yes, I believe so you need gingerbread for this.
hopefully they will eventually release an app for those of us with devices still stuck on official 2.2
Fring is a cool app but I am not sure if they have a desktop version - I have only used it once on a friend's phone. Frankly I have been using Oovoo for some time now to call my parents and it has worked great, but I have MANY more contacts who use Skype and didn't feel like spending the time or energy to try and get them all to switch.
Yes - for sure you need Gingerbread - I took a stab at installing it on Streakdroid 1.9 but it was a no go. As soon as I installed the above ROM and then installed the APK it worked.
As a side note the above ROM seems to be working great - I had been planning to install DJ Steve's Gingerbread ROM but will have to wait until I have some time.

My guess is it would force close - just changing the version doesn't actually make it Gingerbread so there would be compatibility issues. I will check later since I am going to be playing around with another Streak tonight.
Yep - force close.
