[Q] X10 doesn't ask to mount SD card on USB cable - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My X10i no longer asks me to mount SD card when connected via USB, this has meant I can no longer flash new basebands for my phone.
I am running TripNRaver MIUI 2.4 on baseband .55
Can anyone advise me as to how I can get my computer to recognise the phone and the phone to recognise the computer, neither is working.
I use Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 neither of them show the phone when connected. I have tried a different cable and different computers...don't know what else to do?

See posts in this section for more info, xrecovery can manually mount the sd card or you can use a micro sd card adapter and connect your sd card straight to your computer, or possibly the app " multi mount " in the market...
Best regards,
Chris

multimount doesn't work and externally mounting the SD card defies the purpose as I need to flash a new baseband and the phone isn't picked up by the USB at all on any computer.
Thanks anyway but I need to the phone to be mounted

Bump* Anyone? Please help?

Try auto mount from market. If u havent tried it yet
Sent from XDA Premium from my X10a rooted running 2.2.1 CM Rom from Rendeiro2005

tried it thanks, my phone has now got stuck at start up with the Sony Ericsson logo and nothing more....just hangs. Calling Orange to get a new phone as it's insured and this is ridiculous! Never again will I buy a Sony Ericsson, bad software, poor support!

I know this is a stupid question but. Are you using the factory cable or are you using one of those thin retractable ones. I have some of the latter and you can charge the phone with it but you can't transfer data or mount the phone with them.

The factory one, I am now getting a new phone from Orange, unfortunately it'll be another x10i, hopefully Geohot and co. can crack the bootloader and unlock the potential. Still be quiet in call volume and other annoying features.
Thanks for the help though

I'm actually using a cheap one from walmart as my friends dog made quick work of my factory cable. Does it have to be the official sony one or should i try a decent quality cable? I checked the local cell phone stores for thew official one but to no avail.

Bypass?

I've posted a similar thread with this question, but is there any way to bypass this restriction? It's cumbersome having to lug around that factory cable everywhere.

[Q] Cant access through USB cable

Recently I updated my firmware to version 2.1 -update1. Prior to the update I could access my phone's memory and SD card via my USB Cord. Ever since I did the suggested update, when I insert the USB cable the phone makes the sound that my PC used to make when it connects to something through USB but my PC does not see my phone and the option to "Mount through USB" no longer comes up on my phone. Has anyone else ran into this problem or know if there is a setting I need to change so I can browse my phone's memory via USB?
Other information that may be needed"
T-Mobile
Samsung Vibrant
Model number: SGH-T959
Firmware: 2.1 upgrade1
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Baseband Version: T959UVKA2
Build number: ECLAIR.UVKA2
If there is some information I haven't posted but is needed to help me diagnose/repair my phone please let me know.
I'll ask the obvious, but you did mount the drives using the pull down shade right? Here's another possibility: do you have a lot of drive letters on your PC? Maybe it is trying to assign an already used drive letter to it, if you are using Windows that is.
Did you reboot after the flash?? Try leaving the phone on and pull the battery.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
I do in fact have a lot of drive letters, I have an SD Card reader so it takes several drive letters by itself, I cant try to disable it so I can see if thats the problem.
The drop down shade however, does not have the option to mount it via USB any longer, that's the reason I was thinking the PC no longer sees the phone any longer. As mentioned above, my phone makes the "Da-Doink" sound that my PC should make when you attach anything USB and it used to make that sound before I did this update. I cant even find anything on how to do a hard reset to the phone so I could go back to factory default status of the phone. If anyone knows how to do the factory reset I'm open to that option.
Thanks in advance
I pulled the battery with the power still on, waited 5 seconds before replacing the battery, powered it back up and still having the same problem
Factory data reset is in the settings. Settings>privacy. Try that and if it doesn't work then I would either odin to stock or flash one of the many great 2.2 roms on here.
I would search the forum on how to do that. Look in the Android development section.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Also, you could try reinstall the usb drivers.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Settings>privacy>Factory data reset didn't fix the problem either. I am currently going to look for the drivers so I can try to re-install those, although I don't remember having to install them to begin with. I think my PC installed it on its own once I chose "Mount USB" from the dope down shade. At this time its not recognizing the PC to give me that option in the drop down shade to begin with. If new drivers doesn't solve the problem, do you guys know the link(s) for the 2.2 roms and do they have a "how to" to go by so I don't brick my new phone?
Thanks in advance
Also, You guys have been so very helpful. I know with a certainty, I would have already bricked this thing without all of your helpful suggestions and for not hazing the newbie like I have seen happen on so many other forums. Thank you very much!
Look through the forum for the drivers. Go to the bible in the android development section. I believe that is where I found the drivers.

I found new drivers on Samsung's Web Site, their Program KIES-mini. After installing both drivers and software (Samsung's Kies mini) the program prompts me to connect my mobile phone and my PC never "sees" that my SGH-T959 is connected. The only thing it says on Kies splash screen is "Please connect your mobile phone" and that is with the phone connected. Is the next step flashing the ROM? Or are there more options in the settings tab or some other menu that I need to try first? I would appreciate help with finding a true "Newbie" tutorial that will take me step by step through the flashing process so I have the smallest chance of bricking this brand new phone.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the prior drunken post lol
i have been having issues with internal/external not mounting to pc for the last few weeks i dunno why but i just started having these issues. i thought at first it was custom kernels not working well with some custom roms but i just found out my sister is having issues mounting to pc as well and her vibrant has no custom roms or kernels on it at all. The only thing i did to her phone was root it to add mobile pc so im thinking it is something more phone related maybe. i dunno
If you turn on usb debugging does the phone show its plugged in to the computer then?
Settings, applications, usb debugging.
Also, not sure if this is on stock or not but there are usb settings there too that tell the phone how to act when plugged into a computer.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Just an update on my issues, as of right now when I connect my SGH-T959 to my PC via USB, the PC recognizes there is something connected and I can choose "Mount USB" in the drop down shade but I still don't see either the phone's internal memory nor the SD card's memory in windows explorer and when I try to access the memory through the phone (Applications>Settings>SD card and phone storage) it says "Unavailable" instead of telling me used and free space on the phone and SD Card. The only thing I did differently was hook the phone up to a different PC I have in the house and everything worked on the other PC just like normal. so I brought it back and I hooked it up to the PC I am having problems with to pin point exactly if the problem is on the PC side or the phone side. So, as it turns out the problem is on the PC side. I am going to try installing different drivers and see if that fixes the problem. Also, I don't know if its relevant but when I run Kies Mini on the PC I am having problems with, the phone says "Connected" on the screen, but on my PC the splash screen for Kies still says "Please connect your mobile phone". Perhaps this information might help someone that knows more about the phone and its software know what the problem is.
Thanks
Yeah. Its sounds like your pc. However, if you can't see the sd on the phone it would make me think its also the phone. does this only happen when you try to plug it into your pc?? I would maybe try different drivers like you said. Not the kies mini drivers. If you go into the bible there is a link for drivers. 32 bit and 64 bit.

USB of LG O1 not getting Detected by PC

First of all I am a big-Noob.
My LG optimus one P-500 is in stock ROM.
My Problem :-
Earlier USB was working fine but now
when I plug it in to the AC Adapter it charges OK but when I plug it in to the USB after that it only charges and neither the Phone nor the PC recognizes the USB data connection.
I have tried
1) Power off the phone and remove the battery for a couple of seconds and power it back up, after doing this the USB does not connects. Not even recognised by PC or Phone
2) Device manager also does not detect anything.
3) Uninstalled modem driver and reinstalled USB driver but no result.
Please help
Thanks in advance
Cheers

I have really very high respect for the forum so please help me out.

This happened to me twice before. I had to send it to LG's Service Center because I saw no way of fixing it since the computer wouldnt know what to do with it...
If you have custom recovery installed, you might be able to flash an original ROM over it. This wasn't an option for me before and it seemed like the only way to fix my phone. Don't take my word for it though. Try for the service center first if possible...
Did you try going to settings and choosing Mass Storage only?
Also, change the USB port of the cable with which you connect your phone (plug the cable in another one - try this with all ports if it doesn't work the first time)...
Before going to any service, do a backup and Factory Reset your device, then try again...
Oh, and disable LG modem from Device Manager after installing the USB drivers.
USB not getting detected
I am trying in choosing Mass Storage only.
"Also, change the USB port of the cable with which you connect your phone (plug the cable in another one - try this with all ports if it doesn't work the first time)..."
Not helping either
Disabled LG modem from Device Manager after installing the USB drivers.
No use
Before going to any service, do a backup and Factory Reset your device, then try again...
I will try this definitely but going to service means 3-4 days without phone . really very scary .
thanks mate

Okay , I did face this problem before and I did about hundreds of advice from my friends but this is the step that works.
I discovered that this happens when you do crazy **** on your sd card with applications such as titanium backup or root explorer. Curiousity kills the cat.
Firstly you need:
1) Usb Card Reader [Of course which suits with your sdcard]
2) Computer
Firstly, you want to dismount the sdcard from your phone and mount it to the USB Card Reader.
Connect the Usb Card Reader to your Computer.
You should be able to gain entry to the sdcard
Next, clear everything on your sd card then place your sd card on your phone back and do a factory reset. If you don't do a factory reset then you must do it all over again if you decided to connect the usb to the phone. After reset-ing the phone , try to connect your phone to the computer. Congratulations.
Note: This works for me but it doesn't meant that it will work for you , but I think that this is worth the try.

Ur phone charges through usb that means your phone usb port/usb cable is ok. Do this :
Uninstall the drivers, restart the pc and try connecting the phone again. Remember not to install the drivers again. Win7 save a dump of old drivers and i think it will auto detect it. Post results here.

Got exactly the same situation with USB(on different PCs) and also Emergency mode on every reboot(taking battery out for about an hour helps).
Did SD wipe though not sure about factory reset afterwards, gotta try it one more time...

Are you sure you are having the latest driver?
try this:
Code:
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/client/app/B2CAppSetup.exe
install it,
(you may have to choose language from the last tab, 1st or 2nd option)
and choose P500 from "driver installation"
I didnt experience this issue but if i cant help im sorry.

[Q][RESOLVED] Phone MEGA bricked - this is not a noob help topic!

Long story short - was running WB v3.9.0 Gingerbread on my x10, worked flawlessly... until my usb cable stopped working. Went out and bought a new one... Charged phone for 2 hours fine, tried to plug into PC to update to WB v4.0... PC didn't recognize my phone...
Tried downloading new drivers etc.. nothing worked. So i rebooted phone:
Surprise Surprise! SD Card is unmountable!
rebooted into xrecovery and did a factory reset/wipe of everything.
then tried to restore my backed up rom.... SD card unavailable...
Tried to manually mount sdcard, didn't work
Tried formating SD card - no luck there!
Now i'm stuck with NO ROM, no way to plug my phone into my computer to download a ROM, a constant bootloop with no firmware and a crappy replacement nokia...
Any help would be MUCH appreciated! (other than taking it in to repair) I don't know if my warranty will cover this much destruction...
EDIT: called up my service provider (3 australia) and they immediately agreed (to my utter delight and complete surprise) to swap my handset for a brand new HTC Desire HD...
It's a shame i'm now leaving the x10 forums - i really did love the phone, but for an offer like this i don't think many people would refuse the trade.
Thanks everyone for your help and input and see you (or not) on the Desire HD forums

What version of xrecovery are you using?? Is the latest one which is gingerbread fix? The version that is not fix for gingerbread have that problem with mounting sd card. So try the latest from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571&highlight=xrecovery
Another question: did you try with flash tool? maybe in flash mode your phone will be recognized.
try to put your SD card into a card reader and copy the existing data to your computer.
then format the SD card with Panasonic SD Formatter - I can't include the URL as I'm a new member. Just google it.
After formatting the SD card, put all data you copied to your PC back on the SD card and try again.
Maybe it works, I had a similar problem and could fix it as detailed.
if not...phew...good question...
can you get in flash mode? well if you can then reflash using SEUS
and search for drivers in forums.
did u try the flashtool to flash it bak to 2.1 SE rom ? i faced the same problems like u b4..
if u stil can access into xrecovery , u can try this

Hey, I also had same problem with my sd card. I couldn't mount it via xrecovery also The solution is very very simple You just have to buy a sd card reader. It coasts less than 1 euro. You will have to format your sd card, then copy someones zip with ROM and your phone is repaired
I'm stuck in the same boat. When I lug my phone in it says " USB Device not recognized." In device manager on my computer it says, "The USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows doesnt recognize it."
the phone goes into flash mode but the phone is not recognized in flashtool!

u might want to try the phone on a differrent cpu /laptop and run flashtool again.
Some cpus just dont want to detect. I have a few cpus i know,i do all the stuff on my win7 laptop cos its the one that does not give me any problem. one thing the laptop is original win7 64bit,the rest of the cpu is pirated xp,maybe thats why.
try it .
tried it on 2 different PCs, same frikkin error!

My problem is getting the computer to even recognize that the phone is plugged in. It's not even giving me a message saying 'device not recognize', it's totally ignoring it. Therefore i can't use SEUS to reflash the phone as when i plug in my phone in flashmode it doesn't read it.
As for formatting my sd card - that's not the problem... i have 2 sd cards (one brand new that i bought as a spare) and i tried both and neither of them worked - something seems to have happened to the actual hardware of the phone
I'm taking it in to repair tomorrow - this is the second x10 that's done this... maybe it's my computer?

Also - i can't find a link to the drivers on the forums anywhere - but i honestly doubt that's the problem - the phone was working 100% yesterday.
This may be out of the box but have you tried looking at the USBSTOR in your registry?
I had a problem before that my phone is not being detected by my laptop because of that. Just set it to 3 to enable it.
are u sure the cable you bought is a data cable not a charging only cable? Maybe the cable had a defect? also if the cable that went bad is the stock one see if the tip if bent. if the tip is bent try to make it straight.

[Q] Update x10 using only memory card?Possible or not?

Hello everyone...
I have a problem so I wonder whether it can be resolved.
Specifically to circumstances I have defective usb mini port on my cell phone. Phone is fully functional, can be charged and make phone calls, but data transfer or connecting a computer to the phone via USB cable, is not possible. The cable is proper only port on the phone is defective.
So I'm interested in the following , is it possible to update the phone to a newer firmware (ginger or froyo, it does not matter) using only a memory card. So all that would be downloaded to the cell phone via computer to be transferred on the memory card and to do update that way.
Mobile is at factory default settings and has never been rooted or anything similar has been done to the phone, he is "out of the box". Sorry for the poor English, it is not my native language.
Please responde and thank you for your help and quick response.

I think you would only be able to upgrade if it's a custom Rom and flash it through Xrecocery. You can transfer the files to the microSD by using an adapter to connect to your computer, but it's annoying because you need to take it out the phone and put it back in.

1st make sure which one is the problem, is it from the phone or from the pc. have u try to put the cable in other usb port on your pc?
Try to re-flash your rom once again. If that is not working too, reboot your phone in cwm. make sure the cable is connected between your phone and the pc, then select mount and usb in cwm. select mount usb. see if this working for you.

Does it charge when the USB cable is plugged in? E.g. does the phone state that it is recharging?
If in Windows, check if the device manager (Start Button > Right-click on Computer > Properties > Device Manager) still detects 'something' on the USB port, if you see a yellow exclamation mark, perhaps reinstall the drivers for your phone. (Flashtool comes with drivers IIRC). In any case, it might be worth a try to run SEUS with the phone disconnected, then it'll offer a 'repair' option, after which you must select your type of phone and connect it, hopefully the tool does not rely on the same driver. This would flash stock rom and stock kernel to your phone.
Should this fail, if your battery and WiFi still work, perhaps you can engineer a solution that downloads a new ROM over WiFi. You could upload it to your Google drive and download through the app or just use the internet browser. Then use a file manager like Root Explorer to move the files to the correct location on the SD-Card. Boot it into CWM and flash the new ROM and see if it helps.
Is the stock SE cable???, have you tried with another cable???
I have the same problem with the SE cable, my phone don't connect correctly with my PC, it disconnects automatically or never work...
Actually I'm using a Samsung cable for use the phone with my PC and works perfectly.
Actually u can try to take out the memory card and used card reader to other ROM beside that u used one. Then flash it. see how it going.

Thanks for all those answers but it doesn't work at all... I even buyed an official version of windows and a new usb cable, downloaded a new rom (XPM V.13) and tried to mount via CWM but that doesn't work! And I think I'll have to wait till November to get a new phone. FML.

Already tried... 6 times.
Only some cables. Work on the MP. Samsung for sure. It might be the USB port, not the cable so you may be a Tad screwed. Sorry
