Next phone to get? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have my upgrade in August, but i was wondering what i should think about getting. For those of you that got the thunderbolt, how is it? should i get it?
I was thinking about the Bionic, but the Motorola bootloader situation is a Con for me, and the 0.3 mega pixel front camera. I wouldnt mind Moto blur too much, but i hope its not that laggy.
I dont want the X2 or Droid 3.
BUT, as far as the Targa... That thing is supposed to be amazing, should i get that?Quad core, but will it make a difference? I dont care about 1440p or intense gaming to be honest.
if the thunderbolt really is fast as lightning, ill get that, especially since its already rooted. i know ill be out of date even with the bionic, but the targa is gonna really knock me down.
Opinions? I think this thread could benefit everyone
Also what about that iphone 5?

^ Don't make me angry. YOU WOULDN'T LIKE ME WHEN I'M ANGRY!
LOL. Just kidding.
IMHO, it's too soon (too long until August) to even summarize what phones you might want to consider, or at least it would be for me. But I understand you're probably excited.
But, I would generalize that I would be more likely to hold out for something made by HTC (if nothing currently made was satisfying enough), so that would limit my options, so to speak, quite well, and probably make it a pure choice of between whatever latest and greatest HTC Android phone, and whatever the next unreleased HTC Android phone is on the Verizon network.
The dual core phones do sound interesting; in the PC world, I'm all about multiple core CPUs, RAID hard drives and dual channel memory. The only thing I haven't done myself in the PC world is SLI/Crossfire, as in my opinion that's for people with loads of money to blow.
Sorry for the digression.

+1
My new ever two date is in August as well, but I may wait through the end of my contract in December so that I can renew with a one year contract. At that point, I'll decide on the best of what's available (though I may wait through about this time next year, to see what comes out after CES and MWC.) When I bought the Eris I made the slight mistake of buying a phone with 10 month old technology, and I do not plan on making that mistake again. As much as I enjoy flashing custom ROMs, if the hardware is good enough I think even an encrypted bootloader that prevents that will not stop me from buying a particular phone. I only do this to make the Eris usable, after all.

I'd say that no matter how outdated the Thunderbolt will get, it's still an incredibly nice phone and I don't see what advantages you can get on Android if you go higher than the specs it has. And for what you describe that you want, it seems that the Thunderbolt would be perfect for you, so you should probably go with that. However, I do agree that it's a bit early to think about what phone you want now, you should probably wait until it's a bit closer to your upgrade time to decide

I'm not up till January. But what I'll probably look for is small form factor, battery life, preferably HTC, see what is supported by Cyanogen or has strong xda support and then choose what's cheapest.
Or purchase something old and not lock into a contract.

Thanks for replies everyone yeah guys don't worry I don't plan on getting the iPhone lol. I know it's early but I'm excited honestly i think I'll get the thunderbolt, I don't care if even a dual core htc comes to Verizon , the thunderbolt is amazing and it's lighting fast (can't get better than that) and as far as battery life, when more custom roms become available , that can always be fixed

The thing that bothers me about the design of the TB is the fact that HTC put the charging/data port on the wrong side. So if you have the TB propped on its built in kick stand you can't have it plugged in charging. Another thing is with all these talks of multi core in the breeze (already in the Xoom) I'm so over single core. I spend a good deal of time on my phone geeking and playing around with ish. So obviously I want as much power and speed out of my devices I can get. As far as Android OS goes, I feel that the TB is being sort of degraded because it got released to soon. It should have been held back so it could have been released with 2.3.3 w/Sense UI. It makes it seem like the Eris of the next gen Android phones. IMHO I could easily compare it to my Dinc. Except it doesn't look as good as my Dinc, lol. Guess HTC had to release something to keep people happy. I guess it is good for that.

Mm. I'm getting my next phone near the end of July. I was snooping around a little, and I discovered the Merge.

This info is preliminary, of course, so it might be inaccurate.
It was supposed to come out in November, but got pulled for some reason. Some rumors are that it was pulled so Verizon could install 4G on it *cross fingers
Personally, I'm in love with the keyboard, and it's enough to win me over, even if it's not 4G. 800MHz is fast enough, honestly. Too bad it doesn't have a front-facing camera, though...

Wow. I guess I just assumed things; I didn't know it comes with Froyo, and I hadn't bothered researching to find out about that kickstand/charging issue since I'm not even close to upgrading. Thanks for making me aware of these things. That does suck.

I noticed this "upcoming" (or not) phone before, too. I would love a slide-out keyboard on a HTC Android phone. I use Ultra Keyboard (like Swype but better ) but sometimes a real keyboard would be nice. I probably wouldn't upgrade to anything that's not 4G, however, and I would also have to weigh not having a faster and multi-core CPU. But whether they had even higher capability phones with all of those features would probably depend on the success or not of a more introductory phone like the one above.

I'm upgrading in August, so I'm looking for the Verizon version of the Evo 3D ...I don't really care about the 3D feature too much, but it's got a 960x540 screen, dual-core 1.2 GHz proc, and 1 GB of RAM, and it's HTC, so it's mod friendly, as opposed to the Bionic that I was also considering.

Well I just found out that I do have an upgrade ...now! One of my lines has one so I'm taking advantage of that and should hopefully have the tthunder bolt either today and tomorrow

lol well i just order my thunderbolt and i should have it by Friday!!!
But thanks for the advice

PAH my upgrade isn't up till March of next year. I was kicking around the idea of upgrading early, but at this rate if I wait, I should be the proud owner of a quad core this time next year.

My NE2 is up. I am waiting on the Bionic, Samsung, and LG LTE phones to be released so that I can make a real world comparison of all the available 4G phones before Verizon implement their tiered 4G plans. From the rumors and official notices, couple more LTE enabled phones will be released next month.
The Devs for the Eris are great but even they can not make the screen any bigger and network 10x faster. I do appreciate all of their efforts that they given to our Eris community.

Ended up getting a DROID3...and I love it...can't wait for someone to root it and see what the mod community can do...

Well, there are unlocked bootloaders on the way, I just imagine they're waiting until after ICS to roll them out. They've made the Atrix's unlocked bootloader a definite thing, and they'll also need to stay competitive with HTC...so, I'm not worried, but I'm also an optimist.

Thinking of going NO contract on Cricket...
I have an Eris running GSB 2.8 ROM. It's a good rom, best of the GSB series. It's fast other than webpages are slow to load. I am eligible for upgrade on the 20th of this month and have decided to buy a T-bolt or similar on CL or ebay and flash it to Cricket with their Android unlimited everything plan for $55 a month. Anyone else out there tried this? If so what do you think of Cricket? I am just really kind of tired of Verizons high prices. This will cut my monthly bill in half and if I don't like Cricket, I am not obligated to stay.

HTC Thunderbolt?

Hey guys, been out for a good minute, but I'm about to buy a new phone. I had been wanting the HTC thunderbolt, as I've had good success hacking other htc phones.
I just wanted to make sure that its a good phone for modding
If anyone has any other suggestions on what I should buy, I'll listen.
Maybe the Bionic?
I just wanna make sure theres no bs blocks or anything that will stop me from modding it to my heart's content, and that theres plenty of roms and all that out there already.
(I would do all this searching myself but ive been working 18-20hrs past few days and I need some sleep, and u guys probably allready know all this)
Thanks
Why not wait for the Galaxy Nexus? I know its not HTC, but still...
cuz i need one this week. thursday at the latest. how long till the nexus comes out?

It comes out in November 2011.
droid charge is better than the thunderbolt. they're both noticeably weaker than any modern phones, but the thunderbolt is generally regarded as a poor investment. Charge has a pretty good development community.
From the benchmarks Ive seen, the charge isn't better than it at all. But the Droid Bionic is in many ways. Mostly with it being a dual core processor, and more ram.
I went in to a Verizon store today to check em out first hand, and I'm torn between the two. I really do like htc sense, and I might eventually change it, but there are enough skins and sense based roms available to keep me happy. However, the Bionic scored like 2400 on quadrant, and its a bit snappier.
But it doesn't have sense on it, oh, and it also doesn't quite have the "quality" feel to it that most HTC phones have. its a bit too light and feels a bit like cheap plastic. idk. but its definitely faster.
Any suggestions guys?
Thunderbolt or Droid Bionic?
Does the bionic have a big modding community?
Reason I didn't mention the bionic is that not only does it not have a good devoloping community, rooted Verizon motoblur devices (not ROM'd ones tho) have a really bad track record of getting majority screwed up every time there's a software update. It also has a horrible looking pentile display.
Oh, and it has a locked bootloader too, so don't expect a lot of ROMs for quite a while.
EDIT: actually, i take that back - the bionic apparently has CM7 moving along very nicely.

(Q) Would you trade your RAZR for a Galaxy Nexus

Now that you have a RAZR would you take that over the Galaxy Nexus?
Sent from my albino HTC Vivid
Yes, thought very hard about it. I love the Razr's built and can't get over how thin this is
Razr looks and feels like a premium phone and it's also promised the ICS
But I'm crazy about the GNexus's screen, imagine Galaxy S' screen @ 330ppi...
And after sensation and Razr I really want to go back to vanilla.
So unless the GNexus feels crazy cheep I'll exchange the Razr for it.
I dont think I even considered the G Nex. I do like what I see from ICS.
When I get a phone...I look at the overall picture, what my wants and needs are. Before actually comparing the screens I just accepted the cons of LCD screens and said I prefer them. Now....I couldnt honestly tell you which screen I prefer anymore. I finally know why alot of ppl like Amoled screen.
Maybe because Pentile isnt as bad as some ppl make it, maybe its because its not as bad on the RAZR as some other phones. Dont really know...but I am happy with the phone overall, screen n all. And for me battery life and reception comes first, everything else 2nd. Thats one reason why the G Nex wasnt really in the running for my next phone. If its one thing that Moto does well...its phone reception.
I would not buy a Samsung phone. I just don't think they are worth the premium price. Motorola just builds a better phone and the radio is second to none IMO. They have been at it longer than anyone and frankly that is enough for me.

All that the nexus has over the razr is a display with around 80 ppi more and ICS...
The Razr has an 8 mp cam vs 5 mp of the nexus, excellent call quality, lag free and smooth interface, latest version of gingerbread (which is better than ICS iMO) and last but not least super premium build quality with materials like kevlar and aluminium instead of cheap plastic and so called hyperskin (SCOF!!)
If i buy a phone for Rs 34,000/- ($ 680 approx) i want to be able to flaunt it and there is no doubt in my mind that the Razr has that X factor (Even more than Iphone 4s ) which sadly the nexus and all other samsung phones lack...
So i would never exchange the Razr for the Galaxy nexus coz i think there is absolutely no competition between the two...
BTW i got my phone 2 days back and trust me the pentile, green screen and black botches issues are blown way out of proportion on these forums...The phone and the interface are beautiful and smooth and i haven't had any issues with it yet except for the battery and wifi signal reception which i think is below par..Nothing major...All and all i think this is one phone which beats every other device available on the market today including Samsung, Iphone, HTC etc etc...
PS : when was the last time people walked up to you and asked which phone you were carrying....that's the kind of reaction im getting with the razr..))
I actually bought the Razr as a hold out until the Nexus came out. Now I seriously am questioning if I will switch. I came over from AT&T, and am so very impressed with the overall speed of this phone and speed of the network. Even the 3G speed are quick and snappy. I have until the 9th +/- of Jan to return this, but everyday that goes by I am more and more happy with this Razr. I wouldn't mind trying the higher res screen of the Rezound, but from what I am hearing the radio in the Razr is better.
JOHN
I didnt ever think of buying anything else than a motorola as a loyal customer. But it is sad to see that they (moto) doesnt give a fcuk about my question in their support forum.
My question when I first heard about the RAZR was "Shall I buy it or wait for the Nexus?" (I have a Nexus S).
When I first saw RAZR on promo video my question changed to "can Galaxy Nexus really be better than RAZR?" Then I bought the RAZR and I can proudly say I would never change for a Samsung, a HTC or whatever.
Galaxy Nexus is cheap built, huge, underequipped (hw-wise) and news are showing off many flaws.
Samsung builds serious hardware (exynos, ram, displays...) but the overall package is a cheap plastic imitation of an iPhone.
This Motorola is amazing, despite its problems of youth
EDIT: By the way...

Having 3 Samsung phones in the past, doing quite a bit of research and experiencing personal hell from a cell phone. I can't recommend Samsung phones to anyone, regardless of how good it is supposed to be.
The GN may be a great phone, MAY being the key word. The RAZR IS a good phone. Big difference. Moto's quality and radio supremacy are unmatched, especially by Samsung.
I was debating on going with the GN, but the more I thought about it, the more I'm set in not buying another Samsung phone. I dont care if the phone is flawless at this point, I cannot go with Samsung. Motorola has always been quality for me, and I hope they continue this trend.
considering ICS doesn't even have flash right now, and all the problems on the UK version, ill stick with the Razr. It works flawlessly and looks beautiful. Dont let yourself compare GN to Razr with how they are now, I would considering comparing these two phones with ICS on both. ICS on the razr in a few months and you have a very close battle between the two phones.
Oh yea, and Smart Actions is probably the coolest manufacturer app ever installed on any android ive ever used.

I have to agree with this. My past android phones have been the following:
G1, Nexus One, Nexus S, Thunderbolt, Droid Charge and now the RAZR.
As much as I liked the vanilla android experience, both my Nexus S, and Droid Charge (which was 20x worst) had hardware issues. On top of that the feel of both Samsung units felt cheap and crappy.
I bought the RAZR since I got to the point where I got so pissed off with my Charge I threw it across the room and it busted into pieces and since the Galaxy Nexus wasnt out yet I figured it was the next best thing. I bought the phone with full intentions on returning it to get the GN when it comes out, but now that I have had it for a week I have changed my mind and plan on keeping it.
The phone is sexy and well built and like my Xoom runs really solid. I figured one ICS is on this phone there really isnt a reason to have the GN except for three things 1) bloatware 2) buttonless front and 3) NFC.
Bloatware isnt an issue because you can root and remove or with ICS you can disable the apps, the buttonless front is really good looking IMO but I can deal with the button on the front for the time being as I usually switch phones once every six months and last but not least NFC isnt highly supported yet so in another 6 months when Im looking for a new phone I can get one with NFC then.
My only issue with the RAZR (I have the US Verizon version) is locked bootloader. That, to me, means that we'll probably see much less in the way of a developer community. One thing I learned with my first android phone (Fascinate) is that I really like messing with software, flashing new ROMs, kernels, trying different system hacks, etc. I'm going to give it until 1/9 when my return period expires on this phone, to see if we get a legitimate dev community going. If not, despite my love of the hardware of this phone, I think I'll be happier long term with the Nexus.
I will never exchange it for a Galaxy Nexus.
When the RAZR will be unlocked, it will be absolutely better performancewise.
And, personal thing, it actually looks absolutely better.
Highly unlikely

+1 here--exactly. Coming from T-Bolt running very smoothly on Liquid 3.0 AOSP ROM, but Razr is very, very nice. Just waiting for SBF to drop to root this sucker.
Rooted: Droid Incredible / Droid X / Thunderbolt / Droid Razr (waiting for SBF to root) / VZW 4G Xoom / Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE
Mine is a keeper.
I thought about it but the more I use my Razr the more I like it.
The radio is oustanding. I have one area that I travel to that I've always had trouble getting signal with my Fascinate. With My Razr signal always has two bars and no dropped calls.
At this point in my life, I love gadgets, but I also need something dependable. Having a phone with a poor build quality or poor connections/radio is just not what I need to deal with on a daily basis. My friend has a GS2, and he drops more calls now then ever before. It's terrible.
Have to agree that I was in the boat to try the Razr until the Nexus came out. I came from an HTC Droid Eris with tons of roms, tweaks, and hacks to play with and keep it functional until now.
The razr simply works with a hefty amount of dependability. The construction quality of this phone is amazing! The speed can actually keep up with me, and what I need to do immediately, not in a couple seconds.
As much as I thought I wanted the Nexus, I really don't care about what it can do. I want to keep this Razr!
I never quite understood the need/desire to ROM a phone IF it's great from the factory. There are a couple of things that are nice in ROMs, but overall I'd much rather keep a factory ROM if it's built well. The RAZR factory ROM is actually perfect to me. The only things I'd want changed
1) A reset option on the power off menu
2) Edit the hosts file to remove ads
3) Changing theme colors (which I think should just be in every ROM, even factory), that being said, I do like the color scheme they put on the RAZR, so I dont want to change it, but for others out there who enjoy it I know this is a huge feature
Otherwise I think Moto did a very solid job on the interface. Unlock straight to camera, clean looking, fast, stable, etc. Even when it comes to bloatware, you can uninstall a lot of it, and hide the rest... AWESOME!
I'm anxiously awaiting the unlocked bootloader, but not to change ROMs. I'm only waiting for it so I can safely root my phone and be able to go back/fix things if they go wrong. And the only reason I want root is so that I can use Titanium Backup to restore all my apps and settings I had for them, save games, etc.
Reading all the issues that people are having with the GN, I'm literally laughing my butt off. I was so tempted to look at it, but the fact that overseas is having some of the stupidest issues, I'm SOOOOOO thrilled to be rid of Samsung.
Today I'm trying the phone on 3G all day to see what I can get for battery life. If I need 4G speeds, it's only a few clicks away, a bit of a pain, but a small price to pay if I can get through the whole day without a charger.

Getting rid of Evo, What should I get?!?

So now it turns out that the screen is broken on my Evo3D (bottom part of the touchscreen is irresponsible to touches) this is after the whole motherboard got replaced after I had the phone for a month, so my carrier will probably let me have a new phone, though I might have to cough up 50-100$ myself...
Not sure what I should get though, so I'd appreciate some input!
I could get an Evo3d for free, but my faith is HTC just isn't what it used to be. It's not just the poor quality of the Evo3D I'm talking about (the touchscreen issue seems to be fairly common) it's also the fact that HTC is making us Evo3D owners wait until at least summertime to get ICS update, which is just unacceptable for what was sold as a top of the line phone...
Moto RAZR
They'd give me the Droid RAZR for 50 bucks, and I'm pretty tempted, since it looks like a nice phone. A great SAMOLED+ QHD screen (Yes I know about the pentile), expandable up to 48gb, a pretty good camera, and super thin Kevlar surface all line up for a pretty sweet package. The only thing kinda holding me back, is that the SGX540 GPU in it is kinda old, battery life is supposed to be just average, and the camera, while good, isn't as good as in the Samsung GSII or iPhone 4S.
Galaxy Nexus
I miiight be able to get a Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Note if I cough up 100-200$ but not sure if I should go for it. Yes, it has an awesome screen and ICS, but whatever Android phone I get will have ICS in the next 3 months or so. The downside is a kinda old CPU/GPU combo (OMAP4430 and SGX540), a 5 mp camera, average battery life and only 16gb storage.
iPhone
Depending on what I'm willing to spend, they'll let me have an iphone4 for free, or 4S if I put down some cash. Between 50 and 200$ all depending on the 16/32/64 gb model. Now I know the iPhone option is kinda controversial, and if you had asked me a year ago, I'd never get an iPhone. But lately, I've gotten kinda disillusioned with Android. Even on a high end model like the Evo3D or SGSII isn't as smooth as iOS, and lag, even if very slight, is almost always present if you go to a list, for example. Theres also the issue of hardware quality and service. The last six months I've spent a couple dozen hours either trying to get an Android phone fixed, fixing issues with it, or taking it to repairs hops and waiting days or weeks for it to be repaired. With Apple you don't have to deal with all of that. They DO give really, really great service. If you take a broken phone to the Apple store, they often just outright replace it, and that counts for something IMHO.
I've had an ipad2 for the past 5 months, and I've really gotten to appreciate how fast and smooth the experience is, and how everything just works. The other advantages would be iMessage/FaceTime, which is really cool, having my phone work great together with my iPad, and the whole Apple ecosystem. Cameras are also top of the line, from what I've seen, and battery life is really good.
I know of the downsides with getting an iPhone, the biggest one would be the 3.5 inch screen. No matter how awesome, bright and sharp it is, it will take some getting used to, to go from a 4.3 inch screen to a 3.5 inch screen.
Other phones, like a Samsung or HTC are also available for me to get, this is just my top3. I'd really appreciate your input, and let me know what phone you'd get next in my situation... Thanks!
Based on your phone listing's looks like you have the GSM version. I would go with either the GN or the Note if it is not to big for you.
The GSM GN has pretty good battery life from what I have seen. The CDMA is not as good which is that I own. Needs the extended battery on CDMA to get decent life. There are a lot of people with the GSM version who get an average of 5 hours on-screen time. To me that is some pretty good battery life.
The downside like you said is only 16gigs of storage on the GSM GN without an SD slot. I just do not get that at all! Why only 16 on a device that cannot be expanded! Luckily the CDMA version came with 32gigs.
I owned the CDMA EVO 3D back in the day, then went to the Epic 4G touch which blows the 3D away. The GN is more in a league with the SGS2 then the EVO 3D. The GN is super smooth.
I personally stay away from Moto's, especially if you like to flash things...
I have been really fortunate not to have any trouble with my evo 3d. I also had the og evo before the 3d.
My next phone will not be htc though. Im very disappointed about ics being pushed back.
Anyway, from your list of phones to choose from i would not hesitate on switching. To the galaxy nexus. Ive had a chance to play around with it a few times and really love it. Updates will always be faster to and of course it comes with the new chip for mobile purchasing. Really comes down to your personal preference and needs really. Your listed phones are all great products. I will never purchase an apple product, but i know a lot of people that love them. Good luck to you.

There's no way of telling about the updates. Google's last flagship device has been completely ignored and won't get ICS. Doesn't really matter to me as I have faith in the xda community to get any updates on to it.

Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S2 i9100. Those two phones are by far the best supported phones development wise on this site. It's only going to get bigger with the GS2 likely decreasing if the GS3 makes a big enough impact.
No HTC phone besides the Sensation compares development wise right now. A few legacy devices here and there, but for the specs, the two phones I mentioned above cannot be beat right now.
I'm in the same boat, well I'm selling mine, I'm so disappointed in HTC, too many freezing up and restarting by itself on stock rom, moving on

Thanks! The one thing I REALLY liked about the Evo was the QHD screen. So I really don't want to go back to an 800*480 screen. The Moto Razr and Galaxy Nexus have pretty much the same CPU/GPU right? OMAP 4430/60

They more or less are the same CPU. I would head over to the Galaxy Nexus forums and learn more about their processor and how it actually is a pretty remarkable in performance. Google picked out nice specs for their flagship.

Thanks!

Sold mine on Ebay. Bought a Epic4G touch. Not looking back. The only thing I appreciated about the Evo4G was the development community. Other than that, I'm getting twice the battery on a larger screen.
That would be my vote. And I paid full price for the Epic. Worth it.

Lol I saw you post in a thread the other day that your next phone will either be an iPhone or a windows phone haha
Evo3D.
evo 3d seems very cheap now for a (once high end) mid range phone.
I've had nothing but good luck with my Evo 3d and love it, only thing i dont like is the flimsy backing plate. From reading your post i cant help but ask were you rooted? There are tons of great roms and app mods available in the forums here, all solve numerous issues and improve upon stock in any number of ways.
As far as choosing a phone goes, if you can get a new 3d free I'd stick it out and wait to see what's available withing the coming months, MWC just finished up and there were tons of greats devices announced.
Otherwise GSII gets my vote.

selling the rezound?

so i know ill get my butt chewed but ive been thinking about maybe selling my rezound and getting into the gnexus for the aosp. im not sure if i really will or not but for the heck of it i put it up on craigslist. not one reply soo far the past week. i saw a few ads for a gnexus for trade and i offered my rezound plus the extra's i have and i was basically laughed at and told the phone sucks and that if i wanted to trade i would need to add cash. i got into an argument with this guy via email on how i believed it would be a fair trade as the rezound now has ICS roms and it has higher specs. this is the 3rd person to give this kind of response to me.
i guess my question is, is this the kind of rep the rezound has? that it sucks via word of mouth?
They are obviously selling there's for a reason. I started out with the nexus its way over rated stick with what you got till something better than nexus comes out man. Go to nexus forms and you see all the problems.
It never ceases to amaze me how impatient people are. If you don't immediately get what you want on a device that is just now four months out from release, you duck out for a proven inferior device because AOSP is so spectacular you can't wait until our awesome devs get it going? Go for it. Then when we got that CM9 or MIUI ROM plus the better spec'd phone you'll think about what "patience is a virtue" means as you try your hardest to kick yourself in the head.

Aye. i think Sense ****ing sucks. it blows, but love the phone. i even tried to clone AOSP. made me a little more patient for true AOSP... try it.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but i think the rez is waay better than the gnex. I played around with one and did not like it. Alot of people have been complaining about it. I have had no issues with the rezound like other people have. I think its the best phone ive ever owned.

Not taken personally at all. It just seems there's a lot of people who got this phone who constantly ***** about sense, or constantly bug the hell out of the devs asking when the magical AOSP ROM will be ready. I think being happy with a great device with a great dev community should make people happy. Just my opinion. As far as I can tell, most people outside of the hobby barely even know the Rezound exists. Since HTC didn't throw Verizon the big bucks to push the device, they let it get pushed aside and the people who are realizing that the gnex is a POS want to knock the better phone. Thus the responses from people trying to sell them. They want a mint for them, although they know why they are willing to get rid of em.
People are just taking pride in there devices. They (Verizon) is pushing the nexus cuz one its there most expensive phone and they want to make money. So I think that is one of the reasons that ReZound has its rep but stats wise the ReZound is a superior devise. Its all what you want though AOSP is great but go look at the development forms and give the senseless roms a try.
It's personally preference.
I love sense
but ICS on the gnex was awesome, and the new bamf rom puts it over the top.
but I missed HTC, Sense, and most importanttly the gnex was way too big for me.
I am very happy on my Rezound
but I recently put my phone on swappa for the heck of it as I have an upgrade, and someone offered me $400.
don't know if I'll take it, if someone offers the $450 I want, I'll sell it.
probably buy another one, find one cheaper and make a few bucks lol.
Besides the 10+ reasons why HTC phones are of higher quality than Samsung phones (which I won't get into), and doing voice and data at the same time (talking about 3g - only Tbolt and Rez do this on Verizon), one of the reasons I got my Rezound was
SenseUI.
I don't buy HTC to put AOSP on it. I buy it because the dialer is unparalleled, the lockscreen cannot be successfully replicated (I didn't mind the CM ring lockscreen, but it's not even close to the same, or as accurate). The smoothness of swiping screens, and the slickness of widgets is just not quite replicated by 'apps in the market that are pretty close'. You can get close to most of the functionality. But it's not the same. Sense is less-touches-to-get-things-done, it's easier to figure out (for those who aren't so technical), and it offers better options for widgets and practical use.
I wish you luck on selling yours. I honestly don't understand the bad rap it gets.
Verizon stores are selling the thing at almost NO profit (in terms of in their pocket money) and the margin on the GNEX was/is much better. I think that's part of the 'hating' that's gone on. Verizon didn't market it as a flagship, and they didn't cost it out properly to the stores.
I think (no joke) that it's the best phone money can buy right now. I think the One X changes that, clearly, but for now.
More dev work? Yeah, I wish that too. But go two paragraphs up. Verizon's fault that there aren't 4x as many people using this phone. But it's a better phone, top to bottom. If you want NFC, or the bigger screen (some of which is lost most of the time with the stupid soft key buttons at the bottom), and AOSP, the GNEX may be for you. But for all of the other (waste of time/effort) problems and shortfalls of the GNEX make the Rezound a better phone and a better choice in my book.
Good luck, sir.
The choice to sell or trade is ultimately yours, however, those people who offered you a gnexus trade IF you also threw in cash are focused on the name that is Nexus, not the overall specs of the phone. I can tell you having owned the Droid Charge which has essentially the same radio, that signal problems are the WORST part of Samsung devices. My buddy who has a gnexus can attest to this. I used t o think that LTE was just new and buggy so I was ok with the constant 4g drops. When I got my rezound I realized the radios really ARE that bad. My buddy may be interested in an equal trade if you really are looking to trade, but I would personally advise you against it. But I can always ask him if you wish.
Another thing to remember , the people looking to trade or sell the Gnex are the ones with phones that have issues. The few phones that get great battery life, signal etc.. are not going to be on the market. I had the choice when I was looking into the phones and for all intents and purposes was going to get the GNex.
Luckily, it was held up so I had time to read about both phones and ultimately chose the Rezound. Mostly, over issues of signal strength that was being reported. I don't regret not getting the Gnex in the least.
After years of mandatory ROM baking and flashing it's nice to own a phone so awesome locked and stock that I really don't care when Android 4.0 is pushed. I checked out ICS on the Nexus and was impressed. But the combination of the Rezound hardware and Sense 3 offset any ICS envy...at least for me.

Just going to give my .02 in here.
I got my rezound the 2nd day after launch. I had a thunderbolt prior, and many other HTC phones all the way down to the HTC magic. I have yet to have any issues with any of my HTC phones, I see my rezound as the best phone ever built as of yet next to the nexus one. The one series might change that though, I cannot deny that one x is gorgeous. Anyways back to the rezound, it is epic, I have put many iPhone 4/s owners to shame with it. My brother in law also bought one on the same day as me, for some (stupid) reason he decided he didn't like it, mainly his reasoning being that a lot of the stupid apps he liked didn't work, or weren't available on the market. So he sold it and bought himself a pos razr. I can tell he really didn't like it coming from the thunderbolt, but he stuck with it, but I have yet to hear him say anything is better about it compared to the rezound. Now his wife recently(finally) upgraded from a blackberry. I have some suspicion that he was some how involved in the deciding for her to get a, gnex. So she has a gnex and from what I can tell it probably doesn't think its that great because she still carries around her other blackberry. And I have also yet to hear from him or her that it is any better then the rezound. In the time between all that my wife got her upgrade and bow has a rezound which she loves coming from a fascinate pos. And now my other brother in law has also gotten a rezound after spending some time playing with all of those devices. The rest of my family is littered with HTC devices, lots of dincs inc2s and thunderbolts, I have yet to have Anny of them complain about their phones.
If one of the one series phones happens to arrive on Verizon I can see my brother inlaw jumping ship on the razr, he knows HTC is the best, he's just being a bit ignorant, or maybe even exploring his options, but either way...
HTC FTW!!!

i traded in my rezound for a nexus and was extremely disappointed.
picture quality and sound quality are better on the rezound. had big time reception issues with the nexus in addition to data speeds being considerably slower on the nexus.
i couldnt take it and was pissed at myself for getting rid of the rezound so i ended up getting rid of the nexus and am back on a rezound again.
and yes, the rezound kicks so much ass stock that you dont even need to root/debloat as far as performance is concerned.
There is a reason why apple chose the qualcomm MDM9600 LTE processor for the ipad 3 similar to the one used on the rezound.
I have both devices at the moment and there are pros and cons for both. I do like the display better on the Rezound as it is more crisp vs the Nexus. But LCD does have issues w/ brightness vs AMOLED. Downside of AMOLED is the possibility of LED fatigue. Radios yeah at home the Rezound has better signal. At home the Nexus is on 3G or choppy 4G, Rezound 2-3 bars 4G at all times. At work I got full bars on my Rezound, Nexus 2-3 bars. I did a speed test on my Nexus w/ 2 bars and got 32 Mbps DL and 6.5 Mbps UL. As in terms of everyday usage and performance there is a huge difference. Nexus' UI is definately smoother than the Rezound's.
On a desensed rom the Rezound is still a bit jerky while scrolling through homescreens etc. But on the Nexus it's like butter, there's no comparison. I'm pretty sure it's just ICS optimizations, and will have to see how the Rezound fares once it's on either official ICS, or CM 9/AOSP. Call quality Nexus is better than the Rezound, atleast in my experiences. Camera quality Rezound, but the speed of the Gnex camera blows the Rez's away. In the end it comes down to the small things and if you want to wait for AOSP to hit if that's your thing. Just comes down to preference Sense vs AOSP, name your poison.
I won't lie, if May rolls around and a HTC One S or X variant comes rolling into Verizon and there's no real progress going on here AOSP wise, I may make that jump, I'm not usually that type but as it looks, the One series looks extremely promising.

Imo Onex isn't that huge of an upgrade to warrant using your upgrade or purchasing at full retail imo. It'll probaby be using the new s4 and it'll be paired w/ just the Adreno 225. Sure the new s4 does better in terms of benchmarks, but everyday meh. To me it just seems like a slighty upgraded Rezound. But the removable battery battery is kinda fail. But if you like it go for it I say.

so...who is (still) planning to get one?

despite many folks being down on the specs of the phone (really did you think a 4.0 inch screen device would have hd resolution? ) i still like it a lot
just trying to gauge how many plan to pick it up, so i can get some idea about the potential size (i know it wont be big) of the root community
money is tight on (as my wife calls it) "luxury" purchases...and i have to buy a new computer soon too as mine is fried...so want to know if its worth using what donations i do have to get (or at least cover some of the cost) it or not
anyone?
verizon tells me i'm eligible for an early upgrade and i'm going to hold onto my org dinc until i see the price drop on the 4g lte, as i'm sure they'll try to butt**** you with price.
this is the only phone i'm considering because i've held a gnex and razr, to efing big for my taste and i don't want to fell like i'm carrying a brick around in my pocket.
and the removable battery and expandable memory are a big plus too.
4G arrives here this summer, along with my last "new every two year" upgrade option. I have enjoyed My Incredible and will take a hard look at it's big brother.
I am not excited. This phone misses big time. The original droid incredible was the king of the Hill when it came out, but this budget phone is a joke to the line. Underpowered CPU without the image sensor chip and the lack of HD display combined with HTC's heavy insistence that this phone is not from the One line makes me sorely disappointed.
I wish everyone who buy this phone the best, but I will be holding on to my original incredible until Verizon actually gets a One series phone.

I'll try to pick one up if I get the chance. S4 chip, LTE, resolution bump all make for a nice upgrade over my Incredible 2
This will be my next phone. Loved the Inc2, it was my favorite phone of all time, but I can't do without 4G. Tried going back to the Inc2 for a week, but I've become accustomed to the LTE speeds here in Vegas, and so I switched back to my Rezound. I think that 4" is the sweet spot for screen size, and don't see the need for a HD screen at that size. 1.2ghz S4 should be plenty fast, and great on battery life. Camera doesn't matter to me, I haven't been let down by my Rezound when I need to snap something quickly. If the battery life is anything like what the AT&T OneX is showing with it's S4/LTE combo, I'm all in. I'll be buying it off-contract.

I am seriously considering this phone. I was going to wait and see which devs were going to pick it up. If you two are getting one, then I am definately getting one.
My only worry is that the phone is not a world phone. I travel outside of the US frequently and the INC 2 has been wonderful. But, I have been renting the MiFi devices from xComGlobal for international travel recently, so the world phone capabilities are not as important.

yeah, i dont know about the world phone stuff...i know the rezound has been gotten to work on gsm networks (lte is gsm based afaik) as have some moto phones...but its not as simple as just changing modes (pretty involved i think)
This phone might be my only option on Verizon in the near future. I for one, do not like the ridiculously large screens. 4 inches is great, larger...not so much. The trend right now seems to be 4.5' or more. No matter how thin that is, it's still too big.

I'm still on the original Incredible, after owning it since launch day over two years ago I'm looking for something to upgrade too. Galaxy Nexus is huge, the Rezound has an S3 with Sense 3.6, and I want something with ICS out the door. And the S4 is looking really great for power and battery efficiency. I love the size of my Inc, and this looks perfect. If you dev for this phone, I will definitely be getting this, as a user of your work on the Incredible. Warm TwoPointTwo was an amazing rom back in the day.
In short, I just want a 2012 HTC phone. With 2012 specs, not last years models that are 6 months old by now.
