I don't really like the stock sms app. Its buggy and handles pictures strangely. Can it be replaced? Any recommendations?
Same.question for the gallery app. Thanks!

Try 'Handscent', 'Chomp', or 'Go SMS' for the text messaging.
Try 'Just Pictures' for the gallery.
Thanks a lot for the suggestions! Some of these look really nice. I will definitely play with them.

Works very well and integrates SMS, MMS and Voicemail into one app - it's sort of a "super" visual voicemail" - plays back voicemails nicely. I prefer it to VVM
Lol voicemail. What an ancient concept.
TextSecure for SMS and mms. Encrypts your texts locally and if the receiver is using textsecure as well then the text can be encrypted from end to end.
I won't go into detail about why I need this but there it is. Use it

It may be ancient but I at least wanna know what the message was that was left. VVM isn't even close most of the time.
I installed this app and it looks nice. I did find out though that after doing this, I could no longer send messages using the stock app nor using handcent. But I may stick with this app.
Update: Well I uninstalled this app and I still can't get my stock app or handcent to send a text message. Any ideas how to fix this? Getting to just do a nandroid restore.

After upgrading to 4.0 all programs except stock contacts and text no longer show Facebook profile pictures. I use GoContacts, Handcent sms and Gmail. None of these display to contact pictures for Facebook contacts. The contact pictures is blank. I have contacted all the companies and they all blame Facebook. Any ideas?

it is facebook. they locked down that part of there API. you have 2 options to get them back:
1. buy Haxsync from the market place. Its only $.99 and it works great.
2. download an app called Photo Unlocker, it was developed by ChainsDD. It is no longer in the market so you will need to search Google for it. For this to work you need to make sure your contacts are synced already with Facebook fully, run the app, it will ask for root. then it will show if the data base is busy or not. some times you will need to click unlock a bunch of times for it to work.
Loaded Haxsync. The only program that sees it is contacts. Does not work with third party programs. Handsent, go contacts and gmail.

i use handsent and go contacts and the both see them on mine. try going to:
system > app > find the 2 apps and clear cache from them.
I just installed Callapp the new social dialing app that is supposed to work great with face book. It doesn't show Facebook contact photos either. This all started the second I upgraded to ICS.

I've just downloaded HaxSync and I'm sync'ing now. I'm using a beta version of Contacts+ for my address book. We're about to find out if my contact photos import from Facebook like they used to before the API change. If this works, I'll be reporting back on my beta results.
And the verdict is...
IT WORKS (for about 90% of my Facebook contacts that had missing photos)!! Thanks for the tip!
It took a day, but the HaxSync did work. Had to rename a few contacts to the same as in Facebook. Working good with Go Contacts and Handcent.
Thanks!

In hax there's an option on how accurate it needs to be. Go into the setting for "fuzziness" just don't hit the last option in it. Trust me lol

Are there any stock messaging apps that handle group texting correctly? It's absurd to me that our stock app doesn't have this. And I've used hand cent as well, which technically shouts what I need, but I've found it causes other issues and overall I just don't like it.

This hides my personal fb photos only. I believe the op is referring to having every fb friend's pictures in your gallery in albums. I have friend's and pages liked pictures in my gallery. I haven't found a way to turn that off. If I wanted to view friend's picture crap, I can use the fb app. HTC should have left my gallery alone.

It will upload your friend's picture as soon as you log into the facebook app or sign in with blinkfeed. Even with sync turned off in the settings menu. The only safe way, use the web browser.

In the photo albums only. Your contacts will be fine so long as you tell facebook to not sync the contacts. I dislike that too.

May I suggest just pictures from the play store as a nice uncluttered gallery app. You can add services to it or more importantly not add them.
i changed to Quickpic myself ... awesome gallery app
According to an article I saw on android central HTC is supposedly considering implementing a toggle for facebook photos in the gallery in the next update.

I've been using Go Sms Pro since it first ce to Android. It was hands-down the best sms replacement in my opinion. The last two updates however have changed my opinion about it. They started pushing Ads like those annoying scam apps. The last one in particular made me uninstall it. It now places Ads on the bottom of the screen. I'm done with them.
Is there any app besides Handcent, Chomp, Texter that is a good pop up sms replacement. There are many apps on the market aand I've personally come across some awesome apps that wasn't on the top of the list of best apps. So is anyone has some suggestions on apps they use or come across, I'd appreciate it.

I personally prefer 8sms, it's like stock with dark theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398767
Mysms. If the person you're texting also got it installed then the text will be send over cellular data, else it'll be send as normal sms over your carrier.
I'll look those up.

Handcent sms here, because it has greek sms mode(it removes special characters), any other app that have the same feature?

Np man, it can also be used as a standalone app without the use of the stock messaging app.

you can simply use ad blocker
it is not in play store as it is blocked by google https://adblockplus.org/en/android-install
it is the same one you uses with Mozilla and llinux
