[Q] Changing to Non-Standard Text Message Notification Sound - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to change the notification sound for text messages to a .wma file I copied to my SD card? When I go into the settings to change the text message notification sound, the sound I want to use doesn't show up amongst the possible choices. However, if I go into the menu to change my ringer sound, the five .wma files I placed in a folder I created (named "Ringtones") on my SD card DO show up. How can I make them appear amongst the text message alert choices? Is there any possible way to do this?
Thanks,
Dennis

Nevermind - I figured it out! I just placed the file in the "Media" folder (I think that's what it was). Now, it shows up in my alert sounds list.

just put the custom wav file into the windows folder, and then you can select that sound from sounds and notifications within the settings area of the xda. Just select that sound for new SMS message

Nope, the new wav-file doesn't show up in the selection box... How did you do it again..?

mp3ringtones
Hi there, is not difficult to use Mp3 as ring tones
1o download (from your muisc device) the Mp3
2o copy to main memory or to external memory in a folder called RINGTONES
3o in the icon PHONE (on the WIZARD of course) look for sounds, then just choose the new ringtone (S) you have put on your memory or phone....
Good luck
yes,i know how to change may ring tone for calls... but i need to change my text message tone...
I hope that you understend because i am not to good with english...
save the mp3 ringtone you want for your text to main memory>my documents>whatever folder you choose. then you change it the same way you change your ringtone for calls. you have to save it to my documents on the phone for it to appear in the message tone list.
So far so good with v21 nice work REZA likeing the new icons !!!!!!!
save the mp3 ringtone you want for your text to my device -> windows then paste it in. then you can change you text message ringtone.
I've tried all the different methods and it wont find the tone when i change my sms tone its not in the list i've tried saving it under my documents, under the windows library and under windows/rings any ideas??

Try to put the ringtone in the ".wav" format (16 bit, 11 khz, mono, PCM) in Windows folder - for me this worked. I´m using a Wizard. For sms, mp3 tones doesn´t worked for me....

[Q] Unable to change default sound

Is there a way to change the default sound to something other then the pre-loaded HTC sounds? I was able to change the phone ringtone to a song on my sd card. When going to settings, phone ringtone there is a new ringtone button which let me choose whatever I want but when I go to the default sounds I do not have that option. The only option I get is, get more, which takes me to the HTC hub. I tried ringdroid and made a ringtone but it don't show up. I also installed tone picker but it doesn't show up either. Another strange thing is, I am using handcent and have a mp3 selected within handcent but when I get a text it uses the default notification instead. Anyone else having this problem?
I had similar issues. I used HTC Hub to download a new ringtone package, and found out that it just over writes everything I may have had selected.
I've had to go in and redo my ringtone and message notifications a few times, mostly after I hook it up and enable SD storage on the computer.
If I have someone call or send a text message while its hooked up as storage, it changes EVERYTHING back on mine to the stock sound settings.
Ok what i did with mine was use astro file manager to take whatever mp3s i wanted for notifications and copied and pasted them into my notifications folder which will be located in your media folder, open astro click sd card then click media then audio then notifications and paste whatever you want to hear for notifications sounds in there then when you go to your list they should show up and work like a charm.
I think I did that with a file manager and it still didn't show under Notification sounds. You need to hit set as once the desired file is highlighted and set it as a notification that way.
Use Zedge. Its a free app and you can select it as default instead of using system. Works wonders!

Menu --> Personalize --> Notification Sound
This is where you can change the default notification sound as well as the sound for the email app, the messaging app, and the calendar.
This took me awhile to figure out. A new feature of Sense 3.0. Possibly introduced in Sense 2.1. Not sure. But different than the EVO either way...

Is there a limit to the number of notification sounds?

I have the GNote i717 and have a number of sound files (mp3) in the notifications folder and not all of them show up when I try to assign a specific sound to an event. I know the file is there, but it won't show up on the list of available notifications to choose. I deleted a few and then a few of the files I previously couldn't see started showing up.

[Q] Add Custom ringtone and notification

Does anyone know how to add your own ringtone and notification sound files? On my previous phone, I could just drop mp3s in the Ringtone and Notifications folders in the sdcard folder. Adding them here doesn't seem to make them show up in the menu to choose them, and the "add ringtone" interface seems to only pull from songs in the music folder. Anyone have more success than me?
I just dropped the files in the ringtone/notification folders and they showed up fine for me in the respective sound settings menus.

Click to collapse
Wierd... Chalk it up to user error... Tried it again and it worked.... sigh. Thanks for the reality check.
For some reason, the silent ringtone mp3 that i dropped into the notifications folder doesn't show up in the list of tones. I dropped the same file into the ringtones folder and it shows up on the list. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
