[Q] google docs on lapdock without internet connection - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there anyway to use google docs on the atrix w/lapdock without having a data connection... i am a university student and don't want to incur massive data fees (canada you take a beating). any help would be appreciated... i am somewhat familiar with flashing and such... so i can do that if needed would prefer to not have to root this guy quite yet though lol... so essentially all i want is a word processor for my lapdock that i don't need to be connected to the internet with.
Thanks,
Ethan

how can you use something on the internet without internet?
seriously dude... anyways use a USB stick or save to phone and when you get to some where you have wifi then upload to google doc server

Did you actually answer your question? or automatically write him off as a idiot and make a stupid suggestion.
@ethandissi - You might be able to get a usable word processor with the work that people are trying to get apt-get going on webtop, but right now I think you're boned without net access.

yeh i did....
i forgot add QuickOffice app can run when in webtop mode from the virtual phone or other word apps.

vi?
Crazy idea...
I don't have an atrix yet or the ability to hack on webtop yet but...
If you can spawn a terminal in webtop mode - you may be able to use vi...
Can you install a firefox plugin in webtop mode that would let you write documents?

[Q] using IExplorer on my Galaxy Tab 10.1-how?

My real estate business software that I have use was specifically designed to ONLY work on I.E. How, how can I get it to work on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. ? I am very concerned it wont work. Thanks
Lol.. you should just slap the developer of that software for using Internet Explorer.
It's very hard to tell you how to fix something until you've tried it and know for sure it doesn't work, and why. If it's a matter of crappy code that browsers besides IE barf on, then you may be able to work around it somehow. If it's using ActiveX or some IE-only feature, you're out of luck.
The best workaround to use a windows only application is to run it on your desktop at your work or home and then connect to it using a service like VNC.
A very good and easy to set up solution is to use Splashtop Remote HD (9.99 in the Market) and run the streamer on your host PC. http://www.splashtop.com/remote
This will allow you to use any windows application on your tablet.

why not just spoof the browser user agent to that of IE. see if that works?

Not that it's necessarily the case here, but UA spoofing is probably not going to be the issue.
Most websites that are "For IE ONLY" either are written to conform to the arcane and stupid rendering of Internet explorer (pre version 8), or use ActiveX, neither of which can be spoofed with a UA string change.

ahh that explains it !! I'd punch the dev for making something IE specific only !!
well get a Win7 tablet...
for work and keep the 10.1 for home/travel
It's time to upgrade your archaic broken software. IE6 went EOL more than a year ago. Good riddens.
Now that I am here with all my knowledge I will provide the correct answer.
Splashtop Remote Browser
This app will allow you to use any browser remotely as if it were a real app installed on your tablet. Its 100 times better than trying to remote in with ultra slow laggy vnc or other crude remote desktop apps and running a browser that way.

lol The joke is on you. Now this is very funny. You believe Splashtop remote HD which was mentioned in this thread is the same program as Splashtop Remote Browser?
Seriously is this what you are telling us?

Download from Market to PC

Hello,
I am currently floating around in the Atlantic with an incurable case of boredom. My ship does not have wifi or any hope of coming close to a domestic cell tower anytime soon. I would love to be able to download apps from the market or another source so I can transfer to my personal laptop and then to my T-mobile G2x to stave off this dreadful condition. Any help would be MOST appreciated!!!

Or just look for apks on google, they are out there.
Also what kind of internet does your laptop have, satellite?
I am on a US Navy ship and we get our connection over satellite.
www.freewarelovers.com/android
All freeware and has a lot of apks just download transfer and install.
Sorry i dont get it, am i missing something.
If you have internet access you can download anything from the Android market and it installs directly to your phone. ie/ google the android market, login with your gmail account and it will detect what phones you have with a gmail email logged in.
Then simply browse, find the app you want and click install, select your phone and then it will automatically install on your phone (as long as it has some kind of internet access).
So unlike other websites, there is no need to copy, paste, or transfer anything.
Sorry if i missed the point, i assumed thats what you were asking???
He does not have internet access on his phone (i assue the satellite connection is strictly wired on the ship). So answers above above are the answer. Google will ultimately be the best place but alternate markets should also be checked out. Cant think of te name right now but if anyone knows the market that yongzh moved his emulators too, i believe they offer direct to pc ownload for ree and paid. Im not sure though so dont blame me f im wrong

The phone itself needs to be connected to a data network for that to work.

if you go to the vlc stream and convert site they have so guides that will help,
but pretty much you need to allow the ports in firewall settings and set up port forwarding on your router
I have been racking my brain on this searching google for an answer but not once did I think of going to the actual website. what a major brain fart I had lol.
Thanks for the heads up

No prob, good luck
when you figure out how to do it. make sure you let us know. thanks
BTW DONT' FORGET TO ATTEMPT AND GET IT WORKING ON YOUR LOCAL NETWORK FIRST! you don't need a firewall if you're behind a router. so just uninstall that crap. I can't believe people still fall for that stuff from companies like norton and stuff.

Agreed. Especially if you use MAC Filtering like me . Good 'ol WPA2 and MAC Filtering have done right by me for quite some time now. Now, Anti-virus, spyware and general internet security besides the firewall I believe is and always will be essential (unless you run a BSD or Linux based machine).
Port forwarding puts a nice hole in your routers security. Always trust the site your opening your port for. Also you may want to read upon port forwarding to better understand what it is before you do it.

[Q] Fake Internet Access to use online apps offline

I'm not interested in limiting the ability of an app to access the internet, there's enough ways to achieve that.
What I'm interested in is finding out if there is anyway to use an "online only" app while offline. Essentially is there a way to set up a fake access point using cached data to simulate being online? I'm looking to use a personal assistant such as google now without needing to blow through my extremely limited data plan that I'm grandfathered in on. Anyone know if such a thing is possible? I've not figured out the best way to phrase this question quite yet so let me know if it doesn't make sense.
Google Now simply won't work that way. I'd suggest you use something like utter! that doesn't actually send every command to Google (which requires internet access) to determine what to do with it.
Yeah I've been trying utter out of and on and I find it really drains my battery. That said its amazing for being in beta. I am actually keeping my fingers crossed for a more developed version of Indigo, I just like setting the cards on Google Now.

PERMANENTLY disabling internet and/or wi-fi connectivity on an android device.

Yeah, you read that right. Basically i'm trying to either find a tablet without internet functionality (which i assume is impossible in 2019) or disable all internet connectivity (or wi-fi connection, same thing) from a "normal" tablet.
Simply put i have ADHD (medicated) and tend to find access to the internet very distracting for my work, but i still need a device to write documents on. Problem is, most places where i work or study have wi-fi around, so i end up wasting hours of time, which i cannot afford to.
So, back to the topic: is there a way i can disable internet access from a tablet, maybe by deleting some file? I'm down to rooting the device, if necessary.
Thanks to anyone who can help me!
What your asking for is a bandaid in my opinion. I have the same issue as well, ADHD. What I've learned is just to focus on the task in your life. Such as the documents you need to type up of to look at the weather if it's part of your day.
Put it in like airplane mod or smth,or either, there are some apps for that, you give them the device administrator right, after that they control your daily internet usage,or if you want to block it you can simply do,but after giving an app the administrator rights, you can uninstall it

Thanks for your advice, but i was kind of expecting this answer. Still, anedoctal evidence has taught me that i'm much more productive in environments where i simply have no ways of accessing the internet. Also, i've been trying to "learn to just focus" for the past 30 years, and i've always failed, so i'm at the point where i'm fine with relying on bandaids.

This looks ingenious but quite convoluted; I find it weird that with all the ways you can brick a phone there isn't some file i can just delete to make internet connection imbossible. Thank you for your answer though, if nobody comes up with anything i'll try your method.
