Hey guys , this is not a e-peen enlarging competition but rather a way to know the best overall SD cards on the market . I for example want to change my lying of a SD card , that even though says it's class 6 it definetely ain't
And for others.... it can be a e-peen competition if you want .
Don't forget to add name , class and write Speeds , a screenshot would be worth a thousand words but for the lazy ones , simply writing your speeds here will be fine too .
Cheers and take a look at the app https://market.android.com/details?id=ales.veluscek.sdtools&feature=search_result
D Tools - Info and Benchmark tools.
With SD Tools you can check your microSD card information (Name, Date, MID, OEMID,...). You can check if your card is fake. (Check serial number and MID and OEMID).
You can also benchmark sd card writing and reading speeds.
You can also submit results and information to internet. In future there will be results. (As soon I got enough results).
Please write to me sreenshot if there are some problems.
Does not shows Card Info On Galaxy S, but you can check speed of external sd Card.
Please write to me, if you got suggestions, or problem report. I can not reply you to comment. And I can't fix problems if I got no feedback. If SD Tools can not test external card, please let me know. (I know for Samsung Galaxy S)
Known bugs: Read speeds are sometimes incorrect (High values). This happened after reset.

My speeds .
SD : Teamgroup
Class : 6
Writing speed : 5 mb/s ( a far cry to the minimum 6 mb/s that it should be )
Read speed : 30mb/s ( mediocre once again I know )
Manufacturer: some dude on some ship
Model: SA08G
Class: unspecified, but I'd say "4"
Writing speed: 3,9 MB/s
Reading speed: 14,7 MB/s
Testing it on a computer yielded higher values though (4,2 & ~18 MB/s). Also, for daily use it proves to be OK.
Fujitsu (SU08G)
class 4
ran it three times

I have a Class 4 Sandisk 8 GB. I guess i got more than what i paid for.
BTW, what are memory prices down there where you live? I got the 8 GB class 4 Sandisk for INR 640 = 14 USD.
Something's not quite right...
Considering the fact that this comes from a Shanzai-ish company I bought the card from xD

Lol your tests aren't extraordinary at all . Everybody knows that microSD's are made by monkeys in suits and every once in a while some models are freakishly good.
If you want to be super sure just restart your phone and redo your tests but considering your reading speeds weren't flat out dumb ( 100 mb + ) where the bug usually occurs then it's ok
At my place a 8gb Sandisk class 4 is around 20-25 USD

I know. That's why I said something's wrong. When I copy files to my SD via USB, I get 5.90MB/s, so that makes this card class 6. What boggles me is why I'm getting fast writes to the with my phone xD
And I understand my read speeds aren't that great

Ya. I am not from US too. I too did the conversion from INR(Indian National Rupee)
Was just curious about the memory prices in other countries
Good for you mate. Next time i'll buy Shanzai instead of brand name product!
I suggest you don't. There's more to life than just read and write speeds. I bought this since it's extremely cheap compared to popular brands. I'm actually more concerned with flash storage life (read and write cycles are limited), but money is precious. Besides, my SD on my Symbian phone (bought almost 3 years ago) is still working perfect
Ya. I was just kidding. And anyway, 2 $ is not that big a deal.
I have always gotten sandisk/transcend flash memory since my no brand dirt cheap memory stick pro duo in my K750i went kaput.

Hi, I've recently purchased a class 10 16 gb sdhc card for my phone on ebay. I got 15MB/s write and 15MB/s read using the SD Card Speed Test application and i got 2MB/s write and 10MB/s read using my stock Class 2 8 gb sdhc card. Now I need to leave feedback and could anyone from this forum please tell me if this is a good speed for a class 10 card or did i get ripped off?

Yeah you got ripped off because class 10 should give you 30mb/s read write

Thats the speed of Class 10 dude !
you got what you paid for
but you can get better result by modifying buffers
you mean use a script to change the reading speed? yeah i know. and thanks for the replies guys i was just making sure no need to make fun of the noob greenstuffs :/
yep, thats what i mean,
it will speed up, read and write both ways !
Your write speed is really good, got 15MB/s, too with my Kingmax 16GB c10, but only once.
To improve your read speed you should install the app "SD increase", then you should get 25-30MB/s read or even more. My Kingmax is cheap (32€) because of that I "only" get 25-30MB/s read using the SD increase app.
When I changed the cache myself I got 40MB/s read, but after a reboot the changes are gone so I prefer the SD increase app.
@ zmbutt:
I think his write speeds won't increase (much), 15MB/s are already really high and not really affected by the buffer size.
it made no change at all :/ i got mine for $35 AUD lol
i have 2 gb sd card that came along with the phone. i presume its a class 2 card. however i get write speed of 9.6 mbps and a read speed of 12 mbps...what should b the class of this one...what i saw on the internet is that class 2 , 4 and 6 have write speed od 2,4 and 6 mbps respectively...is that correct??

why do you need this? if you have unmount issues, just buy a new one.. i bought a really cheap 8GB one in Indonesia (pure win for 10 USD) and it works perfectly (except i have organization issues now)
Class rating is just the minimum spec. Consider yourself very lucky to have one that exceeds the spec so much.

Pardon me, but I don't understand. Is this a question or a comment?
By the way, capitalization makes a difference.
9Mbps would be slower than class 2.
9MBps would be faster than class 6.
Hey Guys
Am looking for a suitable Microsd Class rating ( am going for Sandisk, 16 GB or 8GB) for my Motorola Photon. I am going to install a lot of games, specially those Tegra 2 ones, Max Payne and others too, and alot of apps on the phone. And i might use Link2SD to move them to the SD card to keep Phone memory less occupied.
So as to what i feel is that i'd be requiring good read/write speeds for games, plus proper loading of apps (in time, i don't want lags at all). the problem is, according to the Price, i can go for 8GB class 6 or 16GB class 4. What do u guys think i should go for? would it really matter? i know class ratings are the Writing Speeds, but who knows?
Regards
Save up for a Class 10. There is a world of difference between a class 4 and a class 10 especially when using ROMs that have the SDSpeed tweaks.
I like class 4 personally as write speed really only affects installing imho. lower write cards tend to have higher read as well. SanDisk as a brand makes Damn fine cards which I think brand makes more difference than class overall.

@Loki,
What about a Sandisk 8 or 16GB Ultra at UHS 1 speed?
i read the following on Wikipedia about UHS Cards
"Cards that comply with UHS show UHS-I or UHS-II on the label, and report this capability to the host device. Use of UHS requires that the host device command the card to drop from 3.3-volt to 1.8-volt operation and select the 4-bit transfer mode".
Is above compliant with Motorola Photon? I cant seem to find a Sandisk card with a Class 10 rating else than this one.
@Cornelius,
i think that when playing a game, the Phone might want to Read/Write data during play times even.Reading happens all the time, but Writing would also take place. But as Loki said, i'd be interested in trying these ROMs with SDSpeed tweaks. i really want no lags at all...
Regards
it really depends on the game, but writes happen way less than reads in most cases. class 10 is more for pictures and videos in my humble opinion. most games were it matters, it's a 400+ mb 1 Time download and then massive reads.

@Cornelius
What about apps? they would also be fine with Class 4? i use a Sandisk 16GB class 4 in my Sansa Fuze all the time, and never had a problem with it, but i dont want my phone to lag at all. Apps might need to Read and Write in real time right??
Regards
if finances are an issue, than here is a G Skill brand 32gb class 6 for $15 shipped.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16820231603
usually in 99.99% of cases read is more important than write. usually writes are so small they don't matter.

Lexar 32GB Class 10 $26
I'm averaging 11MB Write and 21MB Read on Imperium Initiatve
high write or high read its always a compromise. if your that worried about hints of lag use the smallest sdcard you can get by with.

@Lokifish Marz
One suggestion was Class 10 microSD, and when paired up with ROMs that have SDSpeed tweaks, where does the difference lie (imagining u have experiences with class 10 and SDSpeed tweaks)? What is better than when a class 4 is used?
Plus what tool do u use to get the Read/Write speeds? i suppose its on ur phone only? Also i am thinking of pulling the trigger on an 8GB Class 10 Sandisk. I live in India and Amazon is not an option.....only ebay.in is....
@Cornelius, i agree with what u say about reading going on way more than writing, but then what about SSDs in computers? the performance boost is just because of the Increase in read speeds and not write? I know it gets pretty complex in computers, swap and pagefiles, etc, but faster HDDs mean faster computers, and even though writing happens lesser than reading on the phones, but some writing must be happening that bottlenecks the speed of the phone. am i Right? just trying to learn here from u guys.
Regards
no I'm saying a class 4 usually has a higher read speed than a class 10 but yes the big boost from ssd hdd is the read in 99% of cases.

I am not sure what class 4 Cornelius is using. I don't have one but do have a class 6 Lexar from the same family as my class 10. On Imperium, the class 6 was slower than the class 10 in every aspect:
Lexar 8GB
class 6
Write- 5.8MB/s
Read- 18.8MB/s
The SDpeed tweaks, when set up correctly, improve read speeds across the board. It does tend to max out at a read speed of 20-25MB/s on Imperium. Further tuning may improve this but haven't had the time. I haven't tried any of the UHS cards yet. The big drawback with lower class cards is going to be your write speeds, the falloff on write speeds is there but not as much.
I'm not saying that Cornelius is wrong, just in my personal experience with flash storage has been different. Having used flash storage as everything from regular use to building flash storage based workstations, the lower class rating has a noticeable impact on write speeds but not so noticeable impact on read speeds on a tuned setup.
I only use SanDisk cards, used to go Kingston but they kinda fell out a while back.

Hi guys
I'm looking to buy a Micro sd card, samsung 32GB, class 10
So my questions are:
1- If someone already using sd card just like this one, tell me is it working fine with your android device?
2- Do you think that patriot or some other manufacturer cards are better then samsung?
3- Does your phone in some cases really feals faster with an sd card with bigger class number ( does reading speed of your card effect phone's speed? )
4- I heard that class 6 ( 6 MBps ) is more than enough for android devices, and also that some class 10 cards slow down a device, is it true?
5- Will i ever have enough memory on my phone
I know that there are the same threads on forum somewhere, but i need answers quickly and thats why im opening this one..

1. It works fine.
2. It just user preference. Their both great.
3. Reading and writing to the SD card will be faster. It won't affect phone speed unless your device is using certain mods such as swaps, int.ext. sd swaps, etc. or you have apps on your SD card.
4. While class 6 may be quite fast for a device, there is no way a class 10 could be slower.
5. That's up to you .
tnx Theonew
if i understood it well, an app called swapper 2 can allow device to use some memory from partitioned sd card like a ram memory and provide it a slightly better multitasking, and speed.. ?
And i have read that it can also affect an sd card's life..
So, is it worth it?

Yes, swapping can degrade the life of the SD card but it is worth it if your device is a low-end one (and slow). It will assist in stuff like gaming, etc.
No, I really don't think its worth it. It really affects the cards life and does not really add much ram, even for slow phones...

An additional 256mb is quite a lot compared to 192mb (total).
Quick benchmark of Samsung SD card class 10 in the ASUS Transformer TF101.
Code:
[email protected]:/home/kuisma# hdparm -t /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
/dev/block/mmcblk1p2:
Timing buffered disk reads: 60 MB in 3.09 seconds = 19.43 MB/sec
Reference, the internal nand flash (/data partition):
Code:
[email protected]:/home/kuisma# hdparm -t /dev/block/mmcblk0p7
/dev/block/mmcblk0p7:
Timing buffered disk reads: 52 MB in 3.10 seconds = 16.79 MB/sec
If comparing read vs write, large blocks vs small, sequential vs random etc, the SD Cards wins a few times, the internal flash a few. It's more or less a draw. I would say this SD card got "good enough" performance, although far from SSD performance.
good enough for smartphone

Hi,
I'm considering a purchase or Xperia X, but in one review (notebookcheck.net) they found very poor read/write speeds of external microSD card (only 17MB/s read and 13MB/s write - both are sequential). Have you tested it and are the speeds really so horrible? Thx.
it depends on the quality of your actual SD card being used. Currently using the Samsung Evo+ 64GB SD and I get over 50MB/s speed.
Thank you for your reaction. 50MB/s in Xperia X sounds promising . In the review (notebookcheck.net) they used Toshiba Exceria Pro M401 (very good SD card - R90/W80). Maybe compatibility problem between Xperia X and Toshiba Exceria. And your 50MB/s is read or write, or both?

Thank you, Invicta. Your speeds are not spectacular, but I think they are sufficient.
write speeds are ok, read on the other hand is on the low side i think.
So finally I bought Xperia X and here is my experience: Sandisk Extreme 64 GB - R/W 30/30 MB/s. Speed is not the best but sufficient for me. I also tested Samsung Evo+ 32 GB, speed is lower than Sandisk. (27R/20W).
