I had been running official stock 2.2 on my vibrant for a while, but one issue was bothering me. I use Google Listen to keep up on my podcasts and every few days it won't play back anything, it will say error, unable to play file. I then try to play some music with the stock music app or even with Winamp, and again an error. Reboot the phone and its good to go again. This is how it goes every few days.
I've reformatted, via the phone, the internal flash and still had this problem. So I give up and decide to go back to Bionix V rom(I'm using the latest currently at 1.3.1). Again I'm good for a couple of days, yet tada! this morning I go to play a podcast and again it doesn't work. So whats up? Any ideas? Is it my phone?
Though some digging over at the Tmo forums, Twitter somehow has been fingered as the problem.

I have a very weird issue with my Droid Eris. First off I had Kaosfroyo v29 on there with no problems and my music and everything was working perfectly. But then i Flashed Kaos Froyo V34 in this order (clear battery/rotation/dalvik/then flash v34). I get back and the music apps (Default music app, Meridian, and Mix Zing) and they all start skipping my music after a couple seconds of playing it. it continues to skip each song sometimes after 14 seconds other times before it even starts. It does this with the loudspeaker and when there is a headset connected. I don’t believe it is a hardware issue as it doesn’t do this in when I do my nandroid restore to v29. I have tried reformatting my sd and just putting a couple songs on there. Ive tried using headphones/not using them. Ive tried turning wifi off and then playing music (heard that could be an issue). ive tried other things as well but idk what it could be. If I clear/factory reset and then flash v34 streight, it doesn’t have this issue. When I do apps with data restore with titanium and reset the phone. The issue is back! So im thinking it might be an app I have? I looked at all my music related apps and don’t see one that could be causing it. I don’t have an app killer (although I have autokiller installed but I don’t think that could be causing it). I really want to just update from v29 to v34 but I cant live with music doing this. My last resort would be to just use v29 as I don’t want to lose the state of all my apps and stuff. Music doesn’t skip in Pandora or music palyed through wifi in Zumodrive. It only skips in the default music app and the other music apps. Really frustrating. At first I thought it could also be my metamorph skin but that wasn’t it also(that was back when I was trying to update from v29 to v30 other versions with the same issue…) it always skips to the next song on the list, not fastforward or anything. also sometimes it shuts off and reboots automatically because of the skipping.
I really really wanna update. Any solutions? Ive looked through my apps and cant really see anything that might be causing this. any suggestions would help. Thanks.
Did you flash the memory? It's the first wipe option in the A RA bootloader.

remove setcpu and autokiller

i uninstalled both and then restarted and the problem was gone! i reinstalled autokiller and it works fine(after another restart). but then in installed setcpu again and then it started doing it again right away! without even doing a restart.. So it seems to be the culprit. How is setcpu interfering with it? i had it set on like 748/480 with a couple other profile settings. Also why would it start acting up now? it was working fine with setcpu in v29.
Ever since I installed Bionix v1.3.1 my phone randomly stops being able to play music. It happens every 2 hours or so. I've tried different music players and they all have the error above. The only thing that fixes it is a reboot. This works but takes so long, and I usually go to play music in the car and all of a sudden its broken again.
And its all my music not just certain files. System sounds still work tho, so its something with the internal storage because I don't even use the external sd. I've been trying to find an app or something that can remount the internal storage and not the Ext. SD.
Yes, i've also tried different roms, like Loki, Trigger and others. The other day I ODIN'ed back to JFD and rooted and started all over but the problem persists. I've noticed some other people asking questions about this but nobody has a definite answer besides reboot. We shouldn't have to reboot to listen to music every so often. Some people said unplugging your usb cord without unmounting can cause that, but I've tested it both ways and still the issue comes up. Anybody with some know how or some devs willing to input? Thanks. Running the latest Trigger at the moment if that matters.

Never experienced any of this. What music players are you using and what format is your music in?
Yeah this used to happen to me until on day it just stopped working and now it plays one song and freezes.

They're all mp3's and I used the stock player, the MIUI player, mixzing, mort player and poweramp too.
Have you tried changing back to stock rom? Or maybe trying other formats? Cuz I have no clue... =P Sorry
Delete the twitter app. Mine was doing the samething, now its fixed after deleting the twitter app
Twitter doesn't cause the problem. I've had it installed for months.
I'm having the same issue, but I'm on the stock 2.2 and rooted. There's been other lingering issues as well, like wifi not reliably connecting, the system thinking it's in debug mode with just a car charger attached, and other things that are irritating, but nothing major like that.
I've found something else interesting about this.
The YouTube player also fails to load any videos when this happens - I get the "there was an error while playing - touch to retry" message.
The music player will also still play .wav files just fine - which may explain why the system sounds still work.
I'm guessing that the youtube app and MP3s share a codec somehow, and something is failing to work properly. Beyond that, I know little else.
Yes, I noticed youtube too..I found a pretty quick work around. Download Hot Reboot from the market. You just push the hot reboot button on the widget and restarts the whole system without rebooting the actual phone. Once you push it, it shows you the android boot screen for a couple seconds and then back to your home screen and the sounds work again. So weird. I can't wait until we have a good 2.3 version working, because out of all the gingerbread roms I tested the issue was non existent. Good luck Everyone.
Trust me on this.. you can check my other posts on this same issue... I started getting this same error out of nowhere and it happened all the time... someone said delete the official twitter app. I did and it has not happened since.
I have been using plume.
And I don't care about these people who say twitter is not the cause. When there is an issue and changing or removing one thing solves that issue... then that one thing was the problem.
That was DEFINITELY the problem..Uninstalled twitter yesterday when you posted that and I haven't had the issue since. You sir are awesome. By the way, how did you find out twitter was the cause?
Confirmed fixed by uninstalling the Twitter App
That definitely fixed it for me. All my music started playing fine right after the uninstall finished.
thanks!
I'm reporting the bug.

I realized that the music errors were almost insync with when i would check my twitter.... or at least I just felt it was, ha. then searching through the interwebs someone else said they were having problems and they thought it was related to twitter so i said screw it and deleted my twitter app and the problem went away.

Wow thats a whodathunka for sure!
Sure works tho, I was begining to think the 2.2 update jacked the phone...
+10
I have the same problem.
I've uninstalled twitter but the problem still exists. So I guess twitter was not the main or only cause.
Are the files you're tyring to play acc or mp3?

I'm having the same issue with the of mp3 files that I know work but my music player saying "unsupported file".
And yes a reboot does get me where I can play the media file. Also this issue not only stops local mp3's from playing but also youtube wont play a clip, short video clips wont play thru the browser option, I can have ever choose "internet" and the file downloads to my phone (feels almost like I'm back on winmobile 6.5).
I do have the Offical Twitter installed on my Cappy, but as of this posting, I;ve unsinstalled Twitter and when with another app. I will post back tommorow is my phone does the same thing again now that Twitter is removed.
Much Thanks....
{Edit}...I must say that my phone actually feels more responsive since removing Offical Twitter for Plume but Plumes Widget is not that great all the app looks nice, its been 4 hrs and music still plays from default music player.
I was skeptical about this solution, but I tried deleting the Twitter app anyhow. It completely solved the problem. Bravo to whomever figured this one out.
So about a month ago, my Samsung Vibrant got stuck in bootloop. So i flashed a stock rom and updated it back to froyo through Samsung Kies. I am running non-rooted stock 2.2.1 with no mods what so ever.
Now i noticed that my phone will not play youtube videos from the app or from the mobile site. I also cannot shoot video, play previously recorded video, or even play videos loaded onto the phone.
I have never had this problem before and i am very stumped. Any ides on a fix? Anything helps. Thank you.
This was also happening with my phone on stock rooted kb5...
youtube won't play, songs won't play either, ringtones, videos, all in all media is messed up... the only fix was a reboot.. I'm suspecting it may be due to killing the processes as I used to have the habit of killing running apps in task manager to save battery (i think it's a myth lol) so i stopped doing it and hasn't happened ever since.. so maybe the task manager or task killer is the cause of that..
also i noticed that my phone performs better when no apps were frozen or removed... ui transition is better imo... just better overall based on my observation..
good luck to you anyway..
I once had problems because of the Twitter app...don't ask me why or how...after deinstalling it, rebooting my videos worked again...
So the question is, do you use the Twitter app?
I want to admit I don't have much experience with this phone as it is my girls and i only flash it every few months to keep it up to date. I flashed it to the latest open kang last night, the phone had a severally outdated miui on it, and every miui i have ever used on this phone has had random reboot issues, not frequent but noticeable. ANYWAYS followed the op, i always start fresh by using odin to stock, flashed clockwork with the cm7 fix, flashed build2 reboot, used power button to reboot to recovery, wiped, flashed open kang, worked great. No music app??? weird but no need she uses poweramp anyways. loaded poweramp, let it scan, hit play, and phone crashes.
Deleted poweramp
rebooted
reinstalled poweramp, hit play, phone crashes.
Odined phone to stock redid the entire rom install, problem persists.
This is the only thing that seems to be wrong but with no defualt music app and a nonfunctional poweramp, she has no music.
ANy input would be greatly appreciated. Although i am not to familiar with the fascinate. I have been flashing phones since my OG droid (currently using a rezound) and am not scared to try something.
Really no one has any thoughts? Can anyone confirm that poweramp is working on this build.
Have you tried to uninstall the app and redownload it from the market?
Fix permissions?
Have you tried downloading the app and clearing data for it?

I just downloaded it and tried it and it worked fine for me. No crashes so it might be that the app data needs clearing or something. Like mentioned above, download it from the market and see what happens.

Yah i went through all that. Like I said not my first time around the block. Starting to think it might be a problem with the sd card itself. I guess ill try to formatt and try again. Thankyou for checking on power amp though, let's me know I'm not fighting losing battle. Appreciate it guys.

I have not found this anywhere else, so I finally have to ask.
When I receive a phonecall, the phone rings. I answer the phone, put it to my ear, then suddenly the stock music player starts playing a song. I have to go into the app and pause it every time. When the phonecall is over, the app closes itself.
My first attempt was to try and see what options were on in each app, but there doesn't seem to be anything related to something like this in either music players or the phone app. I went ahead and just disabled / uninstalled ANY music-related apps (player, pandora, winamp...) and tested it, and it still happens! How can the app run when frozen?
I'm really at my wits end here, can anyone offer any insight?
Sounds like a bug with the model of your phone. If you are running on a rooted phone I would recommend freezing the default music player and trying another player. On my phone I ended up freezin the app and installing a player then moved the app just installed to my system apps folder that way it stays there on a reformat. Hope this gives you some ideas...sorry I cant offer a fix. Keep me updated.

Ah yea, forgot to mention this was total stock.
But that's the thing, it is disabled! I had disabled it through the applications manager. And it still happens. Just wild. Not gonna root+TiBu+Freeze yet, so we'll have to see.
Ill see if i can find a fix. If you have headphones in does in still autoplay?
