[Q] (Q) How do you Port a ROM? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm wondering if anyone knows the simple way of porting a ROM from the i1900 to the Vibrant...
IF there is a "simple" way.
If not, if someone could explain for a newbie like me, I would love it. I think this would be fun to learn =D
Right now, I'm wanting to port Darky 9.4 to the SGS Vibrant.

[Q] flashing new ROM help

I just got my second Andriod phone, the HTC Inspire and I want to root it to get rid of all that AT&T nonsense and make it more customizable. I've read the Inspire is a little more complicated than say, the Samsung Captivate but I want to try it anyway. The problem is, I'm not extremely computer literate when it comes to things like this so I was wondering if anyone could shoot some reliable ROM names my way to help get me started.
you'll find all you need here
haha ^^^ we must learn to search before starting a new thread

[Q] Now what??

Ok so I am very new to all of this so please be nice. I have followed the proceedure to root my fascinate running gingerbread 2.3, which works great and was very easy so thank you to the developer, and now I don't know what to do with it.
I know someone will give me a happy reading post and that's fine cause I would like to learn alot more. Has anyone done anything else since the change to gingerbread?
Thanks all
Bucky

I think you need to be more specific. What do you want to do with it? Theme, apps, customize?
With these powers you can now use it as a .... smartphone.

Are you aware if your on gingerbread anything you will mostly end up getting your sd card fried? Make an sd card backup.
Keep me Fascinated.
I guess it was a little vague. I am looking to customize or theme for the most part.
This is the stock gingerbread install from telus it best not fry my SD card.
Thanks again everyone

Well if its the ota from Telus your sd card will be alright.
Keep me Fascinated.
SD card issues have been fixed for a week or two, chillax.
OP, if you want to get the most out of your phone you should try either Vanilla Gingerbread or CM7 for performance and speed, or MIUI for customization and slickness. MIUI is also very fast.
The glitch kernel is the best in my opinion, it has great performance and battery life and everything. You'll want to get voodoo control and voltage control from the market to get the most out of the kernel.
sageDieu, thank you for the suggestions. I looked at a post for the MIUI and it looks really good I think I might try it.
Now for the Noob question,(yes I will search as well), is there a really detailed walk through as this will be my first time trying this and I would rather not destroy my phone.
Keep the suggestions coming and thak you again,
Bucky
Since you are on telus avoid any and ALL verizon wireless stuff.
good day.
OK so I downloaded this ...

MIUIFascinateMTD
It mentions verizon in the post so are you saying to stay away from this one?
Sorry guys I am really new to all this. If anyone has a suggestion to try with a really detailed walk through that will work for my phone that would be fantastic. Here are the details of my phone...
Model: SGH-T959D
Firmware: 2,3,3
Baseband version: T959TLKG2
Kernel Version: 2,6,35,7-T959TLKG2 sj0829,[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.LKG2
Stock install from Telus and rooted using the process posted here on XDA.
Thanks again I appreciate it!
That's why I posted what I did. The telus fascinate is a gsm band phone. The verizon fascinate is cdma. And I noticed other users are suggesting things that would lead to issues on a gsm phone. There are sprinkles of telus items within our (vzw) forum but on xda the telus fascinate does not have it's own dedicated forum. So you might try a google search for other telus items for your gsm fascinate.
good day.
Ok so does anyone have anything that will run on a telus gingerbread? There has to be something out there
Sent from my SGH-T959D using XDA App

[Q] Porting Guides????

I was wondering if anyone was willing or even know how to port roms from the SGSII or even the Captivate? Im looking to learn and was hoping someone with the knowledge would be able to share.

[HELP]Ports Ice cream Sandwich apps

Hi guys!
I have a question, I make roms for the LG Optimus 3D device, and let me know if you could carry aPKs ICS to Gingerbread, or is so hard it's not worth it.
Since I have searched and searched and nothing, so if anyone has done it I would like to guide me.
Thank you very much
P.D: If anyone is encouraged to port it too, here I leave:

OK well you wont be able to do a direct port, what it will require is using the Android compatibility libraries to replace the new API functionality (which GB doesn't have) The other option is to port the system.apk over (but i have no idea how one would do that)
This should all be pretty obvious to and Android developer though....
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums, not Development forums.
Thread moved.

Its impossible. You'd have known if you would have searched rather than waste a thread in our forum. Best way to experience android is to buy an android phone. Good day.
