I had the same issue, those are compiled 9patch images. You need to decompile, edit the patches (read up on it above), and recompile.
It's a pain at first, but once you've done it a few times it makes theming a lot easier

DUDE THIS .9 STUFF IS WAY OVER MY HEAD...IM GETTING FORCE CLOSE ON THE MMS NOW

Same problem. I tried using the SDK to recompile the .9 patch on those images and I still had problems. And all I would do is take specific images, mirror them, then recompile the .9 and I couldn't figure out how to not get it to stretch out like you described in the center. It sucks

/system/framework/framework-res.apk deleted all ..zoom.. pics but i get browser FC and the zooms still show up in maps.
what file calls them? is it in browser.apk/.odex?
You need a deodexed Rom.. editing the framework-res is just the images... you will need to decompile the apk

If you don't touch the screen for 5 seconds or so they go away. Maybe search for that time etc and just make it much shorter?

Browser
Hey guys, I have a friend with an IPhone4 and he was bragging about how when he zooms in on a web browser the pictures actually adjust and you can see them in "hd/with clarity". I pinch zoom and the letters adjust but the pictures and clip art stay kind of distorded. How do I fix that? Thanks.

Fusion.apk lockscreen apk

I saw them a while back. I can't seem to find them now if someone could post them for me that would be cool.

here's the fusion.apk. i only had it handy because i found out if you remove it, it garbles your homescreen and lockscreen. it's quite large for an apk.
Thanks. Yea I have a feeling that we probably did the same thing

It's large uncompressed but it's only about 8 MB when it's compressed.
What I mean to say is when you upload it, at least specifically the fusion.apk, zip it up first with normal or best compression, and you'll see what happens. APKs tend to be highly compressable.

If I was to change the icon of an app manually, would the app icon change back upon update of said app or do only the files that are newer get changed in the app? Hence technically the app icon, once changed will remain that way permanently?
Also, is there an easier way than using an apk editing tool to edit the app icons?

So basically you ressurected a dead thread because you don't pay attention to all these flashable mod zips or ask the devs behind the mods. Ppl edit the apks, repack the apks, and flash it to their device via cwm, and see the change that they made.
Download from source and edit prior to packing the apk?

Anyone have a JB modded MMS.apk

Was curious if anyone had a modded mms.apk that allows for the split sms, emoji, and still has the picture preview when typing in a contact name.
Try this transparent one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29570059
That I do! Ill try to upload it for you when i get home. But, the Inverted Apps thread in Android Development has a modded and themed blackncyan mms.apk that has the option for split messaging as well as many other options. If you wanted just that apk it would just be a matter of pullin it out of the zip and pushing it to system/app, changing the permissions and rebooting afterwards of course.
That transparent one is exactly what I was looking for thanks man... couldn't find the one you were talking about in android development but maybe its cuz I'm looking through the app or I just suck lol

Here you are. This is just the one from 4.0.3 before they removed the split sms option.

[Q] haw can i change setting.apk to have a black background with white text

Does anybody know how to edit the Setting for my phone to have a black background and whit text, im getting tired of this ugly white background
Can you be more specific? I see in your thread title you say settings.apk. Are you saying you want a black background and white text just in the settings? What ROM, if any, are you using? If you are using a custom ROM like CM7, I believe its made that way by default. Its been a while since I have used it. I think even Eclipse is black but I'm not 100% sure. So I am guessing you must be on stock Gingerbread. Which means the only way to really do it is to install a custom ROM.

yeah im just on the stock rom, and i want to change the settings in the actual settings app to have a black background and white text. Any ideas on how to do this?? any help is appreciated
Truth be told, trying to decompile and then edit an apk file is more painful than pulling teeth. Like js said above, you'll want to flash a custom ROM to gain real customization. There's plenty here that are awesome.

alrighty, thanks for the help... but one more question, which .png file is the actual status bar in the framework-res.apk file?
Well you could either open every png file until you find the one you're looking for. But the only way to know for certain (our so I believe) would be to have access to the actual xml file within the apk that references that png resource.
The only downside is that if the apk was obfuscated when it was compiled (and most are) you probably won't have access to that xml.
This comes from my dabbling in android app development. However, some greater, smarter person than myself may have a different answer.
