Simply do a backup in xRecovery of any system you want to restrore back leter. Apps will be backuped fine. Contacts and t.msgs will be lost if you won't sync them via google profile.

[Q] Installing new ROM and keeping old files

I know about Titanium, just to start with.
My question is about backup files using CWM, if I install a new rom and restore my system/cache/data will the phone work normally after that?
My main goal is to keep my installed apps as they are on the new ROM, so i guess data is the only thing i need to backup by right?
Thanks in advance!
Backup system + data using titanium backup.
Also backup current rom using cwm incase anything goes wrong while flashing new rom.
After u instal new rom instal titanium backup and restore.

Villain Rom - Back up and restore

Hi
I am about to install Villain rom 2.1 onto my GS2. As per instructions, I have backed up using the app that got installed by the cf root called CWM.
I would lose all my setting etc when I install the rom right? If I want to get it back while keeping the villain rom do i restore from CWM. And will this keep the root and the custom rom.??
Thanks. Please help. ASAP
Yes you will lose your settings, and app data, if you want to save it, use titanium backup and backup user Apps and data.
You can restore anything in white or green, but items in red will most likely cause problems
The backup you made is a nandroid backup which if you restore you will restore your whole old rom.
As far as root, cf root will auto root, and villainrom is rooted so you can just install the superuser app from the market.

You mean on the homescreens etc? Depending on the launcher, you can try backing up twlauncher and restoring it after you flash, but it may not work, so take a nandroid backup before you try.

About Nandroid backup

Hello. I have made a nandroid backup with AmonRa recovery, selecting everything.
So, If I restore that backup, my phone will return exactly like it was in that moment? same kernel, same rom, same all? what about apps in sd ext and their data?
If I want to upgrade my Rom (from miks 6.5.7 to 6.5.8) and I dont wanna lost my apps+data and settings data, can I use nandroid backup for restoring data? How could I use it?
Thanks you so much, I didnt find any answer

Answering to ur question yeah nandroid backs up rom kernel + apps ..not sure about ext ! But the app will be backed up normally ..and if u want to upgrade to miks rom and need data n apps use titanium backup to batch backup all apps + data n restore it later whenever u need ..

If u r going from miks 6.5.7 to 6.5.8 u need not wipe anything..just flash the rom directly. All apps will be intact..

The problem is that Titanium backup wont work because I use app2sd and all apps in SD could come with problems.
so its not a sure way.
(Sorry for the wrong forum...please move it, sorry for inconvenience)
Wt? Even I use app2sd n titanium works perfectly!

Actually restoring apps works flawlesslybut the problem arises only with system data..
U can restore your data only on similar versions of the rom..say u cannot restore data from 2.3
3 LG based rom to cm7 ..however using batch backup apps on SD also get backed up and will be restored later when u restore as in normal internal memory later!

I also wanted to know that with nandroid backup is baseband also backed up??
like I have a nandroid backup with old baseband and currently m on new baseband....so by restoring nandroid will I get my new baseband or I have to flash new baseband again??

Actually, you can upgrade from miks 6.5.7 to 6.5.8 without wiping data.
If you are on CM 6.5.7, just flash CM 6.5.8 (don't wipe anything). And then flash dark tremor apps2sd again. All your apps will be back.

[Q] Is there any ways to backup a Custom ROM and all the settings in it?

Hell All,
Sorry if this is a noob question and someone had asked already. ( I tried to do a search but was unable to find the answer)
I recently discovered the joy of using custom ROMS and I want to try them all. But unfortunately one of the things is that whenever I flash a new ROM, I have to re do all the settings, which takes a lot of time.
I was wondering if there are any ways to back up a custom ROM settings so I can try out different custom ROMs, and if I decide to go back to the old one, I can just use that backup and have everything restored back to my saved old custom ROM settings.
Thanks
Use xrecovery to make a backup

You may use Titanium Backup Pro, however you can't restore system apps such as system settings between ROMs because this will cause force close loops like "process a.core in Android has stopped" hence leaving your phone unuseable because these fc will not stop.
However if you go from one cm base to another, or something like that sometimes it will work no problems. But you can always nandroid and try it out

Yes.... Titanium or mybackup can be used to backup apps+data. For entire custom rom configuration backup you gotta use xrecovery.

you just solved my headache!! I was unable to figure out, for the life of me, why after flashing the white cookie ROM I kept getting "process a.core in Android" FC. That problem has plagued me to the point where I was about to go crazy! Thanks for the advice!

This is going to make my life a lot easier So I just do a xrecovery backup on the current custom ROM I have, and I can try out new ROMS. if I ultimately decide to go back to the xrecovery backed up ROM, then all I have to do is reinstall that ROM and do a xrecovery restore? and everything will just be like if I have not changed a custom ROM at all?
** I noticed that there is only one "backup" option in xrecovery, so that option alone is going to back up my entire ROM configuration and apps and system data? Or for apps and system data I have to use TB?
Thanks all, for the help! I really appreciate it!! You guys are life savers!

That one single "backup " is one man army! It does all.... If you do a backup via xrecovery then tb is not required. However, its a good practice to keep apps backed up in tb ib case xrecovery fails! Since sometimes faulty backup can't be restored and we get this "md5 failed".
Now, to restore a backup you don't need to flash the old rom again. Just perform a data wipe in xrecovery and restore

I want to upgrade to CM 10.1 but..

Hello everyone,I want to upgrade CM 10.1 but is it possible to back up my all apps or everything in phone now. After I jump CM I want to use my phone like previous. As short as I dont want to loose my info.Thanks.
Titanium backup for your apps and data, sms backup for your texts. Sync contacts to google, call log, there's an app for that as well but can't remeber the name.
Stuff on the external sd can be left as it is, make sure you back up any photos etc from your internal sd.
Wipe everything when you're installing cm and everything should be there
