Hi,
Yesterday my non-rooted (and non recovery-enabled) Hero received an update from HTC which required a reboot. Since then the reboot can't get any further than the HTC welcome screen. I have now exhausted all attempts to revive it. I have tried the following:
1. Reboot into FASTBOOT mode and select <MENU> to reset the device
-didn't do anything but reboot phone to hanging HTC screen
2. Connect USB cable to PC, and run the RUU update
r-recognises the phone is connected but crashes when tries to install image
3. Extract rom.zip from RUU file and load on SDcard as HEROIMG.zip
- booting into HBOOT mode, screen just says that HEROIMG.zip not found
4. Create a different HEROIMG.zip from one of the custom ROMs
-same outcome as in bullet 3
5. Try to connect to the phone using adb
-either when phone is in HBOOT mode or FASTBOOT USB mode, command "adb devices" just returns a blank, even though PC recognises phone is connected- other adb commands also fail with device not found
I'm now struggling for ideas of what to try next. Can't believe this is the death of the phone. Any advice?
Grateful for any ideas! Thanks

Here is what I stand.
I have soft bricked my TF201 and I am trying to restore it using ADB per the recovery thread.
I am stuck in CWM recovery boot loop.
When I entered bootloop USB Debugging was not enabled and I dont have a computer that had/has the TF201 drivers previously installed.
Computer system is Windows Vista.
When the USB plugs into the computer it is recognized as "Transformer".
I have downloaded the drivers from the Asus site, from ADB repositories, and from other sites proportedly hosting drivers that work. None of those drivers have worked when attempting to manually install them (Device Manager > Update Driver Software).
How can I install drivers to get ADB to recognize my device if I cannot enable USB Debugging?
First i would install the recovery using fastboot again. Download drivers (link) and install it, download new cwm touch recovery (link), Restart your prime by holding the volume down button, wait, then press down to switch to the usb symbol, then press volume up. Now you are in fastboot mode. Enter the following command at the terminal or command prompt window : fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery (path to cwm recovery img)
Thanks, Ive got USB working and was able to flash to CWM Touch Recovery.
Now when I try to push (adb push update.zip /sdcard/) I keep getting: Protocol Failure
This happens every 3rd or 4th time I try to push. The rest of the time I get a daemon failure.
Any suggestions on how to push a ROM so I can install it? (I dont have one on the internal SDCARD any longer)
I've had this phone for about a good 4 months now, was getting bored so i decide to unlock the bootloader, root, and install a new rom. Then i heard youwer able to activate the HTC logo button to wake and sleep your device with using a different kernel. tbaldens kernel v3.6. I have TWRP recovery installed with trickdroid as my rom. After i ran threw all the procedures to flash in Aroma installer. My phone won't turn on, when i connect it to my computer it shows up as a MTP device. When I do get it to power on its stuck at the "quietly brilliant" screen. cant get into recovery to restore from back up. PLEASE HELP! SOLDIER DEPLOYED!!!!!!!! dont have the means of sending it in. Any suggestion. Mac is my primary means of rooting. windows 8 drivers are kinda funky:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
If you have access to a Windows 7 PC, then download the RUU for your device. Next, relock your bootloader (fastboot oem lock) Next step, if you have bootloader access to your device, then you can go into fastboot (make sure it says fastboot USB). Open a command prompt, and type in fastboot oem rebootRUU. You're in RUU mode, where you can run the RUU and reset everything back to stock.

can i do this from a mac? and i can't get into fastboot because it wont go past the htc logo screen. it is identified as a MTP device in windows
Ahhhh thankfully i was able to get into my bootloader and flash my recovery! but thanks for the reply bro
OK I left my phone and when I went back and got it the touch screen wasn't working. I think the idiot there tried to put the operating system on his desktop because he was asking me if I had a disc with one on it. .......
When I restart while pushing vol down, the screen shows:
***UNLOCKED***
JEWEL PUT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.09.0000
RADIO-1. 13. 11. 0830
OpenDSP-v31. 1. 0. 45. 0015
eMMC-boot
Oct 18 2012 15: 46: 20
when I try to fastboot
the screen flashs this :
SD CHECKING
NO GIFT FILE.......
LOADING ....[PJ75DIAG.ZIP]
NO IMAGE!
LOADING...[PJ75DIAG.nbh]
NO IMAGE OR WRONG IMAGE!
LOADING...[PJ75IMG.zip]
NO IMAGE!
LOADING...[PJ75IMG.nhb]
NO IMAGE OR WRONG IMAGE!
Then goes back to the HBOOT screen with the options
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
SHOW BARCODE
I have cleared storage, recovery, factory reset, reload bootloader, reboot,.......[I didn't document what I did or did't do , what order......I didn't keep record of what I did so all I can say LESSON LEARNED] when the phone boots up I have the lock screen but the touch screen doesnt work, just the power, vol +, vol-
I tried using a RUU my pc recognizes the evo , checks the version which is 3. 17. 651. 4 asks if I want to update to 4. 13. 651. 4 goes to screen that says rebooting to bootloader right after that the usb connection is lost and the screen says waiting on bootloader..... the phone screen is black with silver HTC logo in middle, the computer pops up with message that the last USB device you connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize. The RUU shows error 171 no USB connection and exit button. The USB connection is gone, the black screen HTC logo stays until I restart the phone then I have lock screen no touch screen workings and usb connection working and message at top of screen usb file sharing . I did download minimal fastboot adb and when I tried to use it, I could get the phone to show fastboot usb, but it didnt have the usb connection active. It says usb file sharing, is USB debugging On? ADB does't find device.........I am unlocked S-on and can't discern what I did to do and in what order. I am getting that I need to get S-OFF, I tried RUMRUNNER but adb doesnt reconize device so.......If I try to fastboot with out the sd card in it, it doesn't seem to run bootloader, from HBOOT I choose fastboot, goes to screen, I choose bootloader and it just goes back to HBOOT screen. Please advise.
To run a RUU on your phone you will need to relock your bootloader. You need to install HTC Sync on your PC, which will install needed drivers to your computer. You can run a RUU from the bootloader while connected via Fastboot USB mode. For more info on RUU's and how to run one hit the top link in my sig and read the RUU section. That guide also includes a link to an article on how to set up ADB on your PC.
HTC Can't Connect, ADB doesn't find, PC Does

I read the RUU section, well I read all of it, so I understand that I have to relock bootloader to run a RUU so I installed HTC Sync and sdk. When I connect data cable, my pc opens file viewer and I can look at files on phone. When restart to HBOOT, I lose connection to pc with a message saying usb device has malfunctioned. When I fastboot and go down to reboot or reboot bootloader, I get fastboot usb, but when I try to use adb or fastboot they are waiting on device and never does find it.. I downloaded the usb driver didn't help. HTC Sync says to unlock screen and/or accept request which I can do neither since screen is nr. Is usb file sharing on and dev debug off why this is happening? If so what can I do?
USB file sharing and debugging mode won't matter when using Fastboot commands. Are you on Windows 7, 8, 8.1?
Windows 8.1
Windows 8.1
It's a driver issue with 8.1. Google it & you'll find a few guides to help you get your PC set up properly.
worked great up until i had to flash the supersu, it reboots it, but it eeps getting stuck at a screen with a triangle and a !, first time ive seen this on my phone, works fine after i shut it down and restart without entering recovery

The screen with an exclamation mark is the stock recovery screen. If you want to root your phone, better to do it manually using adb and fastboot commands:
Download and install the latest android sdk-tools package (adb and fastboot) on your computer
Download and install latest HTC drivers on your computer.
If HTC Sync is installed on your computer, uninstall it (not closing it, uninstall !!)
Download twrp recovery for your device: zara_ul here, zara_cl here and save the file in your android sdk tools/platform-tools folder (where adb and fastboot are installed)
Open a terminal window from that folder (shift + right click --> start command window here)
Unlock your bootloader folowwing instructions at htcdev.com/bootloader if not already done
With the phone in bootloader mode, select "fastboot" and make sure "fastboot usb" is shown in red in the terminal window type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-zara.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then download supersu2.46.zip from here and save the file at the root of your phone storage
Boot in twrp recovery, select "install" and then select" update-supersu2.46.zip and swipe the buttom slider to confirm.
Reboot the phone and its now rooted.
I 're-did the windroid toolkit and can get into the twrp recovery....but supersu doesn't work, and no matter how I transfer the zip file it doesn't show up, the supersu file says iopens and there's nothin by in it when I go to twrp recovery and install, and it fails every time I try the adv sideload. The phone connects no. Problem to my computer, any other files I transfer show up.

Boot in twrp main menu with the phone connected to your computer.
Open a terminal window from your android sdk tool/platform-tools folder
type:
Code:
adb push UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /data/media/0
Then select the "install" menu, make sure you are browsing your internal sd card (as opposed to your external sd card) , find the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip file, select it and flash it.
btw quote me or mention me if you want faster answer so i'll get a notification because I'm not coming in the Desire 601 forums really often since its a dead place
My K7 is T-Mobile LG-K330, Android 5.1.1, kernel 3.10.49, Build LMY47V, vers K33010j
I have searched and tried many root guides. All end the same way. This isn't new for me as I have rooted and installed mod roms on several phones and a tablet.
The main problem seems to the phone will not show as connected to the root tools. I have triple checked the developer mode ena and usb debugging ena and tried OEM unlock both ways.
I have the latest (as of today from XDA, minadb and kingroot (PC)). Both are installed on my Win10Pro comp.
The phone USB drivers must be in place as I can plug in the usb and the K7 comes up in the This PC list and I have access to the folders. I must be missing something.
adb devices -l
daemon starts but no devices are listed
fastboot devices
none listed
kingroot
all is well up to the point where it tries to "connect" it just fiddles in circles
I waited 15 min and Xed out.
This may be related: I cannot boot to the recovery screen. No matter how I hold the power and up volume I always get the T-Mobile screen and android.
Has anyone seen this or have any suggestions?
Happy Trails
I had similar problems with my K7.
I had to download a different minimal ADB / Fastboot tool from http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/246460-root-and-recovery/ .
Once the bootloader was rebooted the phone had on-screen instructions.
Use this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-k7/how-to/t-mobile-lg-k7-thread-t3481844 and the site above for instruction.
Put your recovery twrp-image-3.img and the SuperSU.zip on a micro sd and insert it in your phone before you start.
Also put the twrp-image-3.img in the ADB program folder on your computer.
Once the bootloader is unlocked, instead of typing: fastboot flash recovery twrp-image-3.img .
Type: fastboot boot recovery twrp-image-3.img or fastboot boot twrp-image-3.img (I don't remember) (only one will work).
Then once in twrp install the recovery ( twrp-image-3.img ) and then the SuperSU.zip from the SD card.
Also make sure you check the box and allow your computer permission to connect to your phone when you first connect them, after you enable usb debugging on you phone.
Good Luck.
