Will Wiping my phone delete info on Internal SD Card? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm planning to wipe my phone and do a full SBF flash before I install GingerBlur ROM. Will doing this erase data on my Internal SD card as well? I don't use an External SD-card, and I backed up all of my apps and data on this so I can reinstall easily once I install the ROM. Will this be a problem?

It doesn't touch anything on the internal media partition (I think 10 gigs), it just wipes the internal phone partitions so anything on the internal sd and external is safe.

Not my experience. It did wipe the apps off of the card. Next time I wipe mine I am planning on removing the card first.

The apps are removed because they are associated with the inaccessible internal storage but personal data like docs, photos, and music should be left untouched

Will doing a factory reset erase internal memory?

My device is acting a little funny and I'm looking to doing a factory reset and wondering if it will erase all data on the external memory? I would like to know so I can back up all data in my computer or SD card. TIA.
Just flash sbf, the internal memeory will not be earsed.SD CARD will not be earsed too.
But, I recommend that after you flashed, wipe it!!!
Just move whatever matters to you to you external sd before wiping it.

[Q] AmonRa recovery

I just wanted to confirm that when using AmonRa it doesn't wipe the SD card when you select WIPE ALL.. I didn't want to wipe everything stored on my SD card when I use the wipe all option before flashing a rom, thanks!
Are you talking about just the external SD card?

When you wipe all/factory reset to flash a rom, everything on your phone's internal storage is cleared. That includes sdcard, not sdcard2 or ext sdcard. The ROM will generally be on your sdcard2, so it wouldnt make much sense to wipe that too.
Yeah I was but I got my answer over in the CLEANROM thread, thanks!

Restoring apps to Internal SD Card or...?

Where you do gals and guys restore your apps. to on this phone? First, by default Titanium Backup was looking at Internal SD Card for storage on this Amaze, so I corrected that in the preferences. Now when I went to restore the apps., it also restored to the internal SD card. Is that correct? How does it normally do it? Does it normally restore to the flash of the phone? I read that when you wipe via Clockwork, for example, before installing a new ROM, it does not wipe the internal SD? Surely I still have to still restore the apps right? Would we just restore the apps, and not their data?

cleaning SD card?

Where are the kernel files to the phone located?
I'm trying to format my whole SD card, everything. So all my unused directories or extra files don't take up room or interfere with system files/functions. But I want to make sure I'll have a functional kernel afterwards to reflash a rom. Whats the best way to go about xleaning your whole phones internal SD card?
Just do a wipe/factory reset.

No you dont understand, there's a ton of made, unnessisary files that are on the general SD card directory. I want to wipe the phone completely from an external OS (windows), and restart the installation process. I have a 12gb SD card, with only 4gbs to spare and I have no idea where all the rest of the data is going. Jellybean shouldnt take less than just 1gb or so!
Didn't your micro SD card come with an adapter? Just remove it, put in the adapter, reformat the card and put it back in the phone? Are you wanting to wipe the internal SD card (the virtual one that came with the phone)? If so, I don't think you can just wipe it externally as there are some files on it that are created by the ROM and needed to function. If you are going to do a ROM flash they will be recreated. If you have a backup of your app data you should be OK. The kernel is stored in the protected OS area and would not be affected so long as you don't delete any sys or system stuff.
In Recovery, I believe you can format both external uSD and internal SD (which I prefer calling "internal memory space")
You can format system, data, external, cache...

New phone
SO i don't know where all my extra disk space was going but i got a brand new phone from my warranty, updated the rom to the same ****. Restored everything and now i have an extra 9gb left opposed to 2gb left. Huge difference. Where the hell was the disk space going though?
Only way to know is an app called DiskUsage.
Very helpful on that situation.
Sorry for didn't mention that before.

wipe internal storage

Quick question here:
In TWRP recovery, if I choose to wipe internal storage, does it mean I only wipe the internal sd card or does it wipe the system ROM also? I am on the latest moded viperX+ TWRP
Thank you.

Yes it will only wipe the internal sd card . If you choose format internal storage, it will wipe everything. SO DON"T FORMAT
If you format interal storage why would that be a problem ?

When jumping between ROMs people generally like to keep the contents of their Internal Memory intact. It used to not really be a problem, because most Android phones had SD cards to act as their internal memory (this isn't technically correct, but you get my drift), and those SD cards would not be wiped when you formatted your system. Now that the phone's internal memory is actually part of the phone's filesystem, though, it requires a bit more effort to ensure you don't wipe out the contents of your "SD card" when formatting the phone.
but isnt internal storage just where photos/music and stuff is stored? yet, certain apps have folders there, and twrp keeps nandroids there, titanium keeps its backups there, but if you KNOW this, you copy these folders to pc first, then format, then copy back those folders and can still restore nandroids or titanium backups, right?
