Here is the tutorial for Installing stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM plus root and CWM. I am not responsible or anyone mentioned below for bricking your phone in case, tested on my Xperia ray with unlocked bootloader using S1 tool.
Requirements
Unlocked Bootloader (preferred) although there is a work around for locked bootloader
4.0.2.A.0.62 FTF files
Flashtool
recoveryRay.img by and Rootxperia.zip b1n4ry (for rooting)
CWM
Installation:
How to Install stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM:
Download this stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM. Thank you Aire for providing the link.
After download you will have a zip file. Extract it.
Download flashtool here and extract it.
Create FTF file using flashtool from the 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM zip you extracted earlier. Now if you don't know how to create FTF files, there's a good tutorial here.
If you successfully created FTF file, you should see a file with extension “.ftf” in the “firmwares” folder inside “FlashTool” folder
Run the executable “X10FlashTool.exe” located in the FlashTool folder
Now click “Flash” button and select flashboot. Now select the firmware from the popup menu. Make sure “Wipe user data” box is checked and then click “OK”.
The application will ask you to put your Ray in flashboot mode, to do this turn off the phone, hold the volume down button while while connecting the USB cable to your computer.
Follow the on screen instruction and your device will reboot. Notice that the reboot process will take longer at first.
How to install Root
Please note that this is only applied to devices with unlocked bootloader. Alternately, you can just install a custom kernel and root using zergrush method but if you want to try the .62 kernel from this stock rom then do this.
Download rootxperia.zip here and place it in your sd card
Enter device in fastboot mode. Turn off phone, hold volume up while you connect the USB cable to computer
Download the recoverRAY.img provided below, you will get a zip file, extract it.
Open folder inside Flashtool where fastboot.exe exists (/FlashTool/x10flasher_lib)
Place the recoveryRAy.img inside the folder
Open command line in this folder
Test if it recognize your device, to do this type fastboot devices, if there is a result here proceed.
Now here's the tricky part, to enter a temporary recovery type fastboot boot recoveryRAY.img
*Notice that we didn't use fastboot flash boot ****.img here because as bin4ry said this recovery is designed to work just as recovery, if you flash it to your device it will NOT boot system anymore! This is just a temporary recovery for you so be careful not to flash it.
Now wait and your phone will reboot, you will see the FREE XPERIA splash screen and your device will now enter temp CWM recovery
On your phone choose install custom zip, locate the rootxperia.zip you added earlier in your SD card and flash it.
Reboot, your device is now rooted.
*to root your device with locked bootloader, they say you can install previous stock kernel and root using zergrush method.
How to install CWM
Download this then extract
Make sure you enabled USB debugging, and also you need to set Screen timeout to 10 minutes so you don't miss the superuser promt
Run install-cwm1.cmd from the folder
Follow screen on screen instruction, reboot.

Aire said, his current kernel supports .62 but they are currently working for repack based on this new firmware.
I haven't tried installing any custom firmware at the moment, I want to test this stock firmware for changes and improvement especially the baseband and battery consumption.

Hm ok, btw, can you post the original link for rootxperia.zip?
EDIT: sorry you already did that thanks!
UPDATE: I'm trying to do SEUS update now though. Hope this thing won't brick..
UPDATE 2: SEUS update won't brick our phone if it uses the Testpoint method O what a happy day it is.. Let's see if i can flash aire kernel back.
is that a global version or what ? some people said, that version has some bugs..
can we root this version with the new DoomLord v4 Root ?
from the Arc forum, i found that they can root their device with .62 firmware just by using flashtool.. can we do that so ?
thx

The firmware is provided by Aire, however if you encounter ftf generic firmware, it will be nice if you post it here.
As to bugs, I'm using this firmware for a day now and I noticed improvement in battery and speed, no bugs so far. I haven't tried the doomlord v4 root, but rooting via recovery is easy.

Yep it is I have already flashed back aire's kernel and it is flawless no more test point required. Yay! Thanks for all the devs.
Xperia blog says the firmware is targeted for users in Middle East North Africa region.
Users else where may see little if any noticeable change

O that.. That means you need to unlock the bootloader (at least with Test Point method). Never thought that won't work before.
most download link from MultiUpload cannot download the firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM, any alternative link?
Thanks.

If your bootloader is still locked you can not root your device using that method. The only work around is to install previous kernel and root using zergrush method.

Thank you "idareyoutoclickthis" and "hansip87" for your replies.
In fact I had rooted my Ray earlier 4.0.2.A.0.42ver using the zergrush method using DooMLoRD_v4_Root Which I lost when I upgraded to 4.0.2.A.0.62ver. Now DooMLoRD_v4_Root won't work with 4.0.2.A.0.62ver update.
Now what about the bootloader thing? Sorry for being so dumb. Can you please elaborate a bit? I've got only got to the point wherein i checked the status using the service menu (*#*#.....#*#). It only says Rooting Status: Bootloader unlocking allowed: Yes.
What do I have to do now? Please help.

Indeed .62 is the latest built which include alot of improvements specially on batter issue.
If you don't want custom rom and kernel and is contented with the stock ROM and kernel then you don't need to unlock your bootloader.
to root your device, you need to flash stock 4.0.2.A.0.42 kernel only, you can do this with locked bootloader and root using zergrush method.

Hi there
The last time sony released the .62 rom when everyone had no root because they have waited that someone builds a custom kernel i thought about rooting my phone but staying on stock .62 kernel.
It is really simple to do that, the only things you need is:
1.A phone with unlocked bootloader
2.Flashtool package of the software you want to root (because of the kernel.sin inside)
3.Any custom kernel with cwm
4.su zip (in atachments)
The first step is that you flash the build version that you want like sony releases a new one then flash it.
second is that you open the ftf file from the software you flashed with 7zip and extract the kernel.sin.
The next step is that you flash a custom firmware of any previous build like the .42 or so or even the cm7 kernel.
You can do this with flashtool or with fastboot.
After you done that boot into recovery go to mounts and storage and mount the sd-card. copy the su.zip to sdcard and unmount the sdcard.
then go back and go to install zip from sdcard.
select the su zip and install it.
power off the device after this is finished.
open flashtool and plug your device into fastboot mode and flash the stock kernel.sin.
after this boot up your device and now you got the newest firmware from sony with root and you don't need to wait for a dev to write a custom kernel
after it booted up you may need to update the superuser binary and the app and install busybox with an busybox installer from the market.
Have fun ^^
If this was usefull for you press the thanks button
Thanks. It works on my wt19i (live with walkman)
how can I make the bootloader?
if i do this, will it reset my system data and phone memory/factory reset???
No it won't reset your data as long as you don't klick on it in recovery :-D
Just stricktly follow the tutorial and you won't have problems
Gesendet von meinem SK17i mit Tapatalk
for all now on ics rooting with this works like a charm
First: the phone was rooted long ago succesfully - thats not the problem
i think i kinda f***** it up by trying to install feralab v14 custom rom over cyanogen 7 without performing cleaning, backup, putting a new kernel or firmware(dont know if i even need to do it). I've searched the forums far and wide, found nothing but dead links.
flashtool doesnt recognize the device(green light is on when i hold back and connect), s1tool doesnt recognize it... i cant enter bootloader i cant basically do anything with it.. can someone please help me?

did u try latest flashtool V 0.6.9.1 ??
FIND IT HERE
..
i will if this doesnt succeed so far looking good, its downloading and installing stock rom
Once you're on StockRom, use flashtool to root...
If you are on 2.1 stock rom use flashtool to install a 2.3 stock rom, once you did it unlock your bootloader and install a kernel with his wifi module... Then you're ready to install FeraLab v14 or another rom...

II may need some directions about unlocking bootloader and installing kernel and stuff..
and is xrecovery erased by this?
edit : Xperia X10 was updated with 3.0.1.G.0.75.
So now you are on 2.3.3...
You have to root again your phone...
Use the last version of flashtool...
And the guide by Crowds (It's in my signature "How to use Flashtool by Crowds")...
All is explained for all the stuff... Installation of Flashtool, the drivers needed, the rooting process, the unlocked bootloader process...
Once all is done, install a kernel (It's a .tft file) with flashtool (DooMKerneL, Thgo kernel, KCkernel... )
Don't forget it's wifi module (it's a zip file to copy on sdcard and install via recovery)...
Then, copy the rom you want on sd card and install it via recovery

Buy download mode do you mean flash mode? Flashmode = phone off & unplugged, then while holding the back button plug in usb to pc. Should only get green led, no screen.

Basically I'm running stock rom and want to get my phone running gingerbread.
I know how to root, to explore the root, copy and transfer files from sd card and install apps from sd card.
My goal is to get clockworkmod installed so I can install roms easily.
I have followed various tutorials and instructions both on here and other sites to install roms and I'm having no luck.
Half them tell you to use clockworkmod to install roms but it isn't compatible with android 2.1 - they are actually telling you that to update to 2.3 you need to use an app that need 2.3 to use.
I have also tried to get xrecovery working as I have seen methods to install clockworkmod using xrecovery but I have tried instaling xrecovery and experienced problems with that too. I root using super1click, then install busybox as informed and root explorer then download the zip package for xrecovery, extract it and add the files to my sd card, then transfer the 3 files, busybox, changemond and xrecovery.zip to system/bin and chmod them, using root explorer. Then reboot and press the back key when SE logo appears and enter xrecovery but then when I try to select an option and use the home key to select it it just hides the blue text off my screen instead of entering into the option selected and i have to go and install stock rom again using SE Update and start the process all over again.
Can any one help me with this either by telling me how or pointing me to tutorial that does actually work.

Just get flashtool from here
Press root-button (the padlock), it will root and install busybox
Press xrec-button (the button with the cross on it), it will install xrecovery
Go to Advanced -> Reboot -> Recovery -> Default Recovery.
Install the CWM-zipfile you found for installing with xRecovery.
(The only disadvantage with flashtool is that it still doesn't let you install CWM directly)
You should be fine after this
The other option is to extract the CWM files from the zip (they're named like the xRecovery ones), put them in the proper folders and set the proper permissions, the way you tried with xRecovery.
You need to unlock the bootloader following this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17378137
Than you can flash a custom kernel using the flashtool. Custom kernels already contain CWM and you can use it to flash the new rom.

Thanks for the replies but I have it all sorted now without having to unlock the bootloader
Set phone to stock with SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service)
Root phone with SuperOneClick
Installed cwm recovery with cwminstaller-windows-v4-dl
Then followed this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333234 to install CyanoCream Sandwich rom, although I had to change the zip package name from CyanoCream Sandwich (v2.0).zip to update.zip for it to install. Instructions are straight forward and well explained - you have to download a couple packages and install them as per the instructions but all in took about 20 mins from stock to custom.
Now running 2.3.7 on my old x10 mini pro

You don't need to rename the zips you flash, just choose: install zip from sdcard, and then choose zip from sd-card, it let's you browse the files and folders on the sd-card, so you don't get stuck with lots of update-zips
But good luck with your GB-phone, and glad it all worked well

Maybe it was just my phone playing up but I had to rename to update.zip because the install with the original file name failed.
Hello.
I tried to root my Sony Xperia Sola with Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v9 however whenever i try to restore backup named RootMe phone says - Could not Restore- reconnect external memory and try again. Than phone restarts and says all done, however whn I try to install ClockworkMod Recovery it says that phone is not rooted correctly. How can I fix this?

Are you oN 6.1.1.b.1.54 or .10??
1: hv flashtool
2: hv ics ftf
3:both. 54 nd .10 krnels
4: flash nt fastboot. 10 kernel root.
via binary ver 18.7
5:install recovery for locked boatloaders
6: revert back to. 54 kernel
Tadaaa u r rooted
Sent from my MT27i using xda premium
Problem
I have problems too. Stock ICS Xperia Sola. Trying to root with Bin4ry's bat file. I have tried to make it work using any version but it denies. Ex. : v9 :
I can restore RootMe but after rebbot command line just says that it doesn't have permission to mount.
v31:
RootMe doesn't even exist. Used both special- xperia mode and normal new. Nothing, no popup no backup but phone reboots.
Any help ?
IMHO easiest method for rooting is flashing prerooted kernel.
1. download fastboot
2. find some prerooted kernel in sola development thread and put it into fastboot folder
3. flash kernel
phone should be rooted, many prerooted kernels come with cwm recovery so you don't need to install it separately
Hi guys,
As said by lwd8cmd, flash a kernel custom, they are pre rooted (need bootloader unlocked).
It takes 10 seconds to download and flash.
But if your bootloader is locked you need to :
-flash .10 stck kernel
-root
-reflash .54 stock kernel
When your bootloader is unlocked, the life is more simple
xperia sola root

Please do like anybody, follow the tuto on xda.
You need to know that you can't APPLY the root script when you run .54 kernel, so:
-flash .10 stck kernel with flashtool
-reboot and root
-flash .54 stock kernel with flashtool and the root stay
