Is unroot still possible? - Optimus One, P500, V General

I have an LG Optimus One ( LGP500 ) running 2.2 and I rooted it using the z4root tool, version 1.0. From what I saw, back then it didn't have an unroot option. In the meantime, I did an update using the LG Mobile Tool, and I think it updated my system to 2.2.2 .
I noticed that the newer versions of z4root have an unroot option, so I upgraded my z4root from 1.0 to 1.3, to try to unroot the phone ... but I only see the Temporary root and Permanent root options. I tried pressing the Permanent root and it seemed to do something, after which it returned me to my Home. From this, I'm drawing the conclusion that rerooting did not work. I am assuming z4root needs to root, so that the unroot option is available.
Is there anyway I could unroot my phone now?

since you have updated to 2.2.2 therfore z4root wont work on it .it requires version 2.2 to root u can go back to the 2.2 rom and then try z4root

Its already unrooted.

You've updated to a new ROM which, until now, is unrootable. However, you can flash the previous ROM, re-root it and then flash zdzihu's pre-rooted ROM along with JiT.
It's all here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883890.

App to root froyo

Hi,
I've just flashed my Vibrant to stock Froyo and now I want to root it. I'm trying Z4root and it just says "atempting to root device" for a long long time. Is there another app that does that? I've tried z4root (which worked wonders with eclair) but it doen's seem to work. I've tried SuperOneClick and it tells me it has been rooted but when I try to run the one click lag fix the option to fix the lag is not available.
cheers

[Q] Can You Root v2.2 Froyo With Z4ROOT?

I recently updated my phone to 2.2 Froyo with Kies Mini on my PC. After updating I attempted to re-root with Z4ROOT and after a few random vibrations it closed out the the app... So I have two questions...
1) Can you still root a v2.2 Samsung Vibrant (U.S.) with Z4ROOT?
2) Also I have Clockworkmod on my phone, will that still work properly without root on my phone?
Most probably z4root won't work.
Use super one click.
cwm needs root.
Thanks. Also after updating, my phone seems to be lagging more then usual. Is this a result of updating with clockworkmod on the phone?
Means you flashed cwm after update? And now your phone seems to lag!
I don't know, I updated to froyo and also have cwm but I don't get any lag.
I don't think any custom recovery must cause a phone to lag.
You must try auto task killers, there are many in market, maybe they help.
just odin back to stock fixes almost everything.

No, Z4root does not work, I have tried it.
But yes, if you can get into cwm, you do not need root to flash anything with it. I have flashed files without root through cwm, so that is how I know.

Virginmobile Optimus V Rooting Q's

ok so my friend has a Virgin Mobile Optimus V now i see 2 options for Root
ADB
and
Gingerbreak
the phone has stock 2.2.1 so i'm going to make the assumption gingerbreak is a no go as it states Gingerbread only.
so does that leave me with the ADB shell option only? I truly hate adb so i have to ask.
seems alot more troublesome then rooting my Vibrant which only took an update.zip file to root/CWR install >.<
well if anyone can let me know if gingerbreak works on 2.2.1 lemme know.
Sorry. It does not work. I have LG Optimus V with Froyo 2.2.1. I tried using the Gingerbreak, to root the phone. While using the Gingerbreak is effortless to use, I could not break through. I did not know that Gingerbreak does not work on Android 2.2.1. That explains the fact that I was not successful.
I have also postponed using the other option as that is quite involved. However, I will get around to doing it one of these days.
I used that gingerbreak on a LG Optimistic V, I have root access and have titanium backup working. This phone was purchased just last week. And I just looked at the version it reads 2.2.1. So that is all it did for me.
Is it supposed to change to 2.3.4 if it worked?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
gingerbreak is just to root. you need a custom recovery to upgrade to 2.3.
as far as gingerbreak not working, it takes a bunch of tries sometimes. it should work on 2.2.1
you might need to use the stock sd card that comes with the phone to get gingerbreak to work, I've read.
Help with Gingerbreak
I got the gingerbreak apk from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765 for my lg optimus v 2.2.2 downloaded it, turned on usb debugging and install non market apps, I ran the downloaded file and it started to install but was taking forever, so I exited out of it. everything has been screwed up since then... i uninstalled it and tried to redownload it from the same place and I cant do it. just keeps saying download unsuccessful, but i can download anything else... I dont have any network problems has installing it halfway ****ed everything up?

[Q] root 2.3.6

is there an one click root 2.3.6 for the atrix? I tried the 2 programes but none of them seemed to work?
Same question here, thanks
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
works for me with a locked bootloader.
There's also a voodoo root method that saves root before the update and restores root after the update.

ok so now I screwed up and I am getting
svf 108 1:2
failted to boot 3
You got a failed to boot 3 using the fastboot preinstall method?? At which step did you get the error
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Ok, I'm on 2.3.4 and rooted using the instructions from brief mobile. I don't believe I have an unlocked bootloader. The only things I have done to the phone were original script from here for rooting (not one click), and then a modified version of it after the first Atrix update which had a before update and after update script to run.
Then, when upgrading to 2.3.4, I used the brief mobile/fastboot method to root it.
So, am I correct in thinking that to update the phone now I need to:
1. Download the update installer from Motorolla and update the phone to 2.3.6? (am I right that I the OTA update won't work or could cause a problem????)
2. Follow the instructions at Brief Mobile to root the phone.
Is this right, or should I wait a while before upgrading for things to be sorted out? The message popping up is irritating, but I can live with it if it avoids bricking my phone or having other problems.
Thanks

Root 2.3.6 one click
can someone upload a script or program that is one click root (not unlock) att atrix using 2.3.6?

The preinstall method is real easy. If that is too challenging then maybe you should wait for someone to volunteer to provide a 1-click/batch script on their own rather than requesting(demanding) it.

I tried that before and I got soft booted.
Try again by using the instructions from the "Android-advice" website.
http://www.android-advice.com/2012/root-the-motorola-atrix-4g-running-4-5-141/
Note: In those instructions specifically, it is important clarify that the phone should be in "fastboot" before entering in commands. Basically, do "step 6" before "step 4".

do you need to undo the root on 2.3.4 before you upgrade to 2.3.6?

yes
btw, before you unroot 2.3.4. can you check if you have su, dosu and superuser.apk in /system/preinstall/ ? I'm not sure if I had those files when I was on 2.3.4, but I see them now on 2.3.6. I only removed the su related files as listed in the link when I was on 2.3.4, never removed su, dosu, etc from system/preinstall...guess it's not necessary for the 2.3.6 OTA to be successful on a locked bootloader.
I just rooted my Atrix after the OTA to 2.3.6 using this method. Worked perfect.
http://androidadvices.com/root-motorola-atrix-4g-45141-gingerbread-236-firmware/2/
no not had any of those files

1) unroot 2.3.4 first:
http://androidforums.com/atrix-4g-all-things-root/423259-best-way-unroot.html
2) apply the 2.3.6 OTA update
3) redo the fastboot preinstall root method
btw before you unroot 2.3.4 can you check to see if you have su, dosu and superuser.apk in /system/preinstall? I see it now in 2.3.6 and am not sure if I had it there back when I was on 2.3.4
I didn't unroot before updating to 2.3.6 and now I can't get it to work. I keep getting the error "cp: write error: No space left on device", what should I do now?
Thanks.

what i did ...
UPDATE FROM STOCK 4.2.91 UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER AND ROOTED ATRIX 4G
try using OTA keeper from the market , before trying the OTA update , this is what i did
1 ) i unlocked my atrix 4g (2.3.4 all stock) with AUTOMATIC_UNLOCK_V4.2 and rooted with PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.07 after that i installed CWM recovery
2 ) Make a Full backup of you rom using CWM and Titaniumbackup (never is enough)
3 ) MANY people say that using RSD LITE is not good , i just take the risk , because anyways the touch of my atrix is not doing good so i will be sending it to warranty soon anyways , i take the risk , i flash my atrix with RSD Lite 5.5 and this sbf
1FF-olympus-user-2.3.4-4.5.91-110625-release-keys-signed-ATT-US-GAS_NA_OLPSGBATTSPE_P011.sbf
i don´t know any other people but i did not loose any data or apps from my atrix it was everything there , unlocked sign erased , CWM recovery partition erased , ROOT was there it is like everything go back to stock ... almost everything my data part was untoched.
4 ) download from the market OTA Root Keeper make a backup of your root and then press unroot temp
5 ) with that done I started to download and install the OTA update
6 ) after this point the phonewill reboot to stock recovery mode and start to upgrade it took almost 10 min to do the update after finishing copying files, it restarted 2 times on the moto logo then started booting , it take a longtime to pass the att boot image be patience mine took almost 5 min after that the phonestarted with everything loaded my apps , photos videos etc.
I think this could be a workaround (it work for me) for updating to .141 , also the baseband was updated to N_01.77.37P_usa_att
The only thing that was untoched was the webtop part , it stays on WT 1.2, ireally don´t use it , but i think if im already on 2.3.6 i can RDS the full SBF to get Webtop upgraded also the kernel say 2.6.32.9 is that the correct kernel for 2.3.6 i read that kernel is for a Froyo sbf not pretty sure
The thing now is , i wanna try installing CWM recovery and see if im already "unlocked" and try fruitcakes to downgrade 2.3.4 but i am not pretty sure about this i think i will get a brick
Also , you can try investigate to downgrade of wait for a generous dev to take out of the oven the fruitcake for 2.3.6 and try the method above
I TAKE no responsibility with this mini-tuto for anything that could happen to your atrix it on you own do this , i take the risk and it works !!!
thanks everyone
