Plug In And It Becomes Slow - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I plug the bolt and use it, the touch screen and keyboard become VERY sluggish!
I unplug and everything works great. Is this a know issue?
Should I replace it?
This is not a good thing.

Are you using an aftermarket charger? Certain 3rd party chargers can cause issues like that. It used to happen on my Incredible. It made the touchscreen almost non-responsive.

It does this for me also, I've noticed it on all chargers I have tried (blackberry charger, Droid charger, and the HTC charger... granted they are all microusb, so I don't know why one would be different then others)

i wanted to post this before cuz i was experiencing this too. im using the stock HTC charger and cable that came with the phone. i hate when it does this. makes me not even wanna text while its charging. i have multiple keyboards on my TB and i mostly use the stock HTC keyboard but i try every keyboard but its still all sluggish and slow

[Q] Unresponsive screen while charging?

Got a Vibrant yesterday, installed Vibrant9, going to do the lagfix soon... I noticed, however, that when the phone is charging the screen is completely unresponsive. Like, it won't even register sweep to unlock. Other than that everything runs perfect and snappy quick... I can't believe I haven't even got the lagfix yet.
So yeah. Wondering if anyone knows how to fix this... not like it's a HUGE deal, I tend to charge overnight anyhow. But I'd like to fix this if anyone knows how.
Thanks!
Yeah this happens to mine when I tried a third party charger that wasn't meant for the vibrant. Quickly unplugged my phone and threw that thing away.
same is happening to me with a 3rd party microusb charger on my desire, if i try to pinch to zoom, while charging, the screen goes crazy
same here, i got a 3rd party charger from amazon, same thing. It was a combo deal where the cord is actually for a blackberry, but the charger is supposed to be for whatever the vibrants requirement is. In addition it came with a car adapter as well (you're supposed to use the same cord). This problem does NOT exist when charging in my car, just with the wall charger adapter.

X2 almost unresponsive when plugged in

Does anybody else have an issue with their X2 when it's plugged in to either the wall or computer of the screen not responding like normal thus rendering the phone completely useless while charging? It doesn't happen every time, but probably 35% of the time which is still more than it should. And it's not just my phone either, my wife's X2 does it as well and all 3 of the X2's I've had have done it on both stock and eclipse.
Just wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue.

I believe the charger is to blame not comlatible. Not every charger is setup with same pins or wattage... if ur mis-matching equipment.
MIUI X2
I have noticed this. With mine the keyboard becomes sluggish and the lockscreen is hard to unlock. I have eclipse now and it hasn't done that yet.

I have one charger works just fine and another that when plugged into it I can only use hard buttons. No touchscreen

I have five different USB cables and they all work fine. I've never seen this issue before. Weird!
Sometimes mine does this not sure what causes it. Seems like phone is usually warm when it does. maybe it gets too warm with screen and charging at same time. i have had it happen with every ROM even stock.

I've used my old Crackberry charger along with my usb cord for the cpu, car and wall chargers. Havent had this problem. Strange......
Today it hasn't happened on the same cable at work.
Mine doesn't seem to take issue with any specific charger or cable except for one which is the one that was sent with my wife's phone from verizon, screws both of them up, and it's a moto charger with the same voltage/amperage as the other moto ones, but it has a 9 ft cable.

Interesting it has happened on vz provided chargers. Do theyhave the Moto M on them, or sonething else?
Mine specifically is 5.1V~850mA. Has a USB cable. Has a port we can plug a cable into.
I'd be curious what everyone else has. I wouldn't think it's the cable itself but working in technology, I've seen stranger things.

It could be one of two things, either:
1. you're using a usb cable with a broken data pin.
2. you're using a charger that doesn't output enough current.
the problem lies in a lack of available current in a certain charging state, a "fast charge" if you will. you get either not a high enough sustained supply voltage, or "dirty" power (essentially a little AC in your DC) and that really screws with the capacative touchscreen.
with a bad cable, the phone thinks it's plugged into a charger and not a usb port so it will try to draw up to 850ma from a port that can only feed 500ma if you're lucky.
with a bad charger, or one incapable of supplying the required current, you get "DC ripple" where your voltage fluctuates up to half a volt or more, 60 times every second. generally your phone will get very warm under this condition as well.
so it could be a cable, a charger or a combination of both.
some car chargers are notorious for making dirty power... so are some cars...

Oddly enough I have zero problems with the car chargers, the phones work fine when plugged into them.
Yeah the newest cable is one that is USB and 9 ft long but not moto one that verizon sent with my wife's phone. The moto one that came with mine an the two moto ones I got from Amazon I don't have any issue with but the cables are so stinking short they are a pita to use anyway (2' cables).
I've also noticed that the USB ports on different computers charge at different rates as well. My work computer will barely charge the phone and sometimes can't even maintain the battery level if I'm using it. My laptop at home charges it pretty good but you can't use the phone because you get the screen issue again.

Yeah, I have had this same issue for quite some time and after reading this forum tonight I tried a new charger and BAM, problem fixed! I had thought it was my phone, but it was definitely the charger. The one I was using was the Verizon 9ft charger they send out with replacement phones. Model: B141000. Black with green on the back. Gave my wife my charger that came with the DX2 to take to work and use because I liked this big long cord. So for months now whenever I tried to use the phone while it was charging it lagged so bad I would have to continuously unplug it and plug it back in when I was finished. Needless to say, having a text conversation when battery was almost dead was really annoying...
So when I read this post tonight I went up and grabbed my old Samsung charger from my old Samsung Fascinate and sure enough it worked just fine... No lag what so ever. So I am guessing it is an issue with the DX2 and the generic Verizon charger they send with replacement phones not being compatible...
Furthermore just as a test I just tried the actual 9ft USB cord with the Samsung plug you plug into the outlet and its still working fine... So I assume its the Verizon plug part not putting put enough voltage or something. Pretty happy that I can seemingly still use my 9ft cord! So if you have a spare plug I would say give it a try!

[Q] Charging of HOX+ problems - unable to top battery while actively using phone

Did anyone try to use HOX+ in car as navigation? I have quite strong charger in car made for iPad (2.1A rated USB) and it is not able to charge phone when it is running navigation (Sygic, but it doesnt matter). It seems to me, that charging current is too low to charge battery and also power phone, which is actively used. Tried to repeat at home, again big Apple USB charger from iPad rated 2.1A and while I was actively using phone (browsing etc), charger was able to get 1% of battery charged per 15-20 minutes. Which is too long.
Phone is getting warm or even hot while using CPU actively (Chrome is able to run all 4 cores while rendering page) and maybe there is some protection to avoid HOX+ getting too hot while charging? Or maybe internal logic just doesnt take more juice from charger when phone is charging and being actively used (to power CPU/GPU and also charge battery)? Anyway result is that with intensive CPU/GPU apps like navigation, I cant charge phone fast enough and it is actually discharging! No matter how strong or good your charger is, phone takes constant current and sometimes its just not enoug...
Anyone got similar problems?
The problem is that you shouldn't use chargers meant for other electronic devices.
How is it with the charger supplied with the X+?
Bbattery Monitor Widget is good to track charge/discharge value.
I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary, even using the phone while it is charging.

And what is the difference between chargers with USB ports? I could understand that using cheap noname charger from China could be problem, but I'm using branded from Apple, which is known to be really well made. And it is providing 5V and up to 2.1A of current.
Anyway cant use original because I bought phone in UK and they have some ugly shaped power plugs unlike rest of Europe
...but it ain't working, obviously. A power adapter is like a couple of €s, and @amazon original charger are around 7 €
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
I've used both an OEM US charger and the UK charger with an adapter with the OEM cable and both have done fine. It does take longer to charge while using it, but that's no surprise.
The Apple charger should do better.
Simply put, the device reduces charge rate if the device gets too warm. I don't know if this is happening but it's something to keep in mind.
I had this issue also when i was using the device. Charging was stuck at 99% and did not change anymore.

Well, you probably can't top the battery while charging because the phone is drawing more current than what the charging circuit (internal to the phone) is able to deliver to the battery (while charging).
Been digging in this problem a little bit more and found strange pattern. Since I cant use original charger (UK version doesnt fit my outlet), I have to charge with Apple ones. I have one big for iPad3 (strong marked as 2.1A), one small one with 1A and one small one chinese copy from DX (also 1A). When I try to charge phone with first two, it just charge like USB (settings>power and there you can see type of chargin on the top of screen). When I use chinese copy, it charges like proper AC adapter, quite fast. But after while, touch screen is messed up and it is almost impossible to control my phone. It seems like some static electricity build up or something like this messing with toucscreen mechanism. It gets fine few seconds after removing phone from charger.
Tried different cables, have 3 types at home. Original cca 1m long, only chinese charger woks in AC mode. Then I have extra short for drive, same behavior like original and two long ones (2m), chinese from DX but well made with quite thick cable and with this even chinese sometimes charge like USB, but sometimes it connects like AC.
Always thought that Apple chargers are good and used them to charge other gadgets, never had any similar problems. Seems that One X+ is quite picky with chargers, anyone can verify if it is just my piece?

Slow charging on my dna!

So my DNA has a charging problem. Figured I'd get a pretty good solution to my problem by posting it here. I've owned my phone for a little over 2 months without any major issues until last week. My phone charges sooo slow via the original htc usb wall charger and various other chargers I have laying around the house! It's really getting annoying as I seriously need my phone 24/7. I installed a few apps that may have caused this. They are the moga universal driver, moga pivot, tango, Skype, and aDownloader. I have since unistalled these apps to no avail. I'm unrooted on stock rom. Phone charges at about %10 every hour and a half. I'm trying to find a solution without having to root or restore my phone. I have the nokia wireless charger but I still find it too slow to use on a regular basis. Use that at night or on days off from work.
I love this phone but if I can't find a good fix I'm thinking of replacing or selling it for the razr maxx hd. I know.. I know.. But I need a phone that charges properly/last long

10% / hour is not an acceptable charge rate. Mine charges much faster than this.
If you are charging via the USB cable, make sure to use the wall adapter instead of plugging it into the PC and check the results. Charging via the wall is usually much faster than by using a PC's USB port.
You can do a nandroid backup of the entire ROM and then install stock to see if the ROM is the problem as well.
If you try those things and it still charges that slowly, then there is something wrong with your phone.
This is not the first thread where I heard about charging issues with people who use the nokia wireless charger. Did you have this problem when you first got the phone?
Wireless charging is the slowest method, so expect it to be slower than by PC or wall cable. The LG wireless pad says about 4~ hours for a full charge (which is still much faster than 10%/hour)...

Possible solution to the screen Responsive issue

Long story short, I posted on several thread regarding the intermittent screen responsive problem, buttery smooth scrolling randomly halting on charge etc. Well, today I noticed I wasn't using the OEM charger that came with the phone, I was using the charger from my old Samsung Galaxy S2, then I remember to look at the power output on both chargers. Samsung S2 OEM = 5v 0.7A LGOG OEM = 5v 1.2A! Now I've been using the LG OEM charger for several hours and haven't had any random lagging/halting/freezing.
So anyone having the same issue, check your charger and make sure the one you use has enough output power, it may just fix your problem.
I use the stock charger and still notice hiccups.

I do too. I'm not an electrical engineer, but given the different way the digitizer system was installed on this phone, I'm wondering if the charging causes a very slight disturbance in the EM field of the digitizer, resulting in misreads, causing the stutter.
I've been switching between stock charger and the Bose charger which has 1A output power and haven't noticed any stuttering since ditching the Samsung one.

ive been using my HTC charger from my aria without issue for my past 3 phones
Yeah, this has been posted before.
Sadly the info always seems to get buried.
I have issues with all of my other chargers, then I tried the stock charger again and haven't had any problems.
For most people it seems to be the charger.
Could have something to do with Qualcomm's quick charge stuff that was just posted.
I have always used LG charger and experienced the unresponsiveness to some degree. Power sources effected screen differently, i.e. wall outlets, ac inverter, even same inverter used in different socket in same vehicle. After flashing E975 JB I have not had an issue.
