Ive been trying out numerous web browsers and am finding that every time I go back to the home screen to do whatever and then decide to open up my browser again, its opening up a new tab every time. I press the home button to go back to my desktop if that helps any. Im finding I have about 10 tabs open. It never used to do this, and want to know how to get it to stop. Every browser I have tried recently does this. Im not rooted and just running the regular rom.
Im also noticing when I use the stock browser it always refreshes every time I open it.

Go to browser settings and there is an option called "open in background" it needs to be UNCHECKED
Open browser-hit menu key-scroll down to settings-scroll down to "open in background"
It is unchecked. But im still getting new tabs popping up every time I open a browser.
All of the browsers I use are opening up a new tab every time I go to use them. Plus, the regular stock browser keeps refreshing every time i open it. this all started this morning.
any ideas?

I had the problem.
The problem was the enabled option "SiteAdvisor" in McAfee Mobile Security.

I've been using numerous web browsers and every time I go to open my web, they open a new tab. I'm finding a dozen open tabs. Its becoming an issue since it's draining my battery. Thisi
Weird... if it were a computer I'd say you have malware.
Its really annoying. Even the stock browser is opening new windows every time I click it. Then it usually crashes.
Any ideas as to why this would randomly start like this?
So I was told to only use the back button to leave an app when I'm done, which closes it so its not running all the time. I do that, but for some reason it doesn't quite work on some apps... for instance on the browser, if my wifi session dies while using my campus wifi, I have to force close the browser for it to automatically bring up the login page. And the app quickdesk also shows that the browser is always running. I shouldn't have to force close, and I hear bad things about other task killers... but it wont end itself. what to do?
Sent from my Motorola Atrix using the XDA App
So after a long browsing session you hit back back back back back back back until the browser closes.?. Or you force kill it. Do you have a particular reason why or your just following someone else's 'back out' preferences? I say there is no reason to end your browser, none. If you are playing a game, then yes there might be advantages to backing out opposed to hitting the "home" key. However, just this morning I was playing PvZ and hit the home key, no lag and two hours later I opened the game to the same spot and continued.
The Atrix manages tasks very well, much better than my Captivate for instance. For the most part it will background a task so its not burning up cpu/bat. I'm sure you may have noticed the task manager popup from time to time saying "the following app has been running 45 minutes, would you like to kill it?". If you are worried about what apps are burning up your cpu/bat, use Watchdog.

Yeah I usually don't have a problem. My problem is that I want the browser to end so that it can start up a new session next time. Like I said with the wifi login...Usually my browser is on the google homepage, so since it never ends it will always open up google again. Then when my wifi session dies, I open the browser so that the login page will show up, but just google tries to load because it's trying to 'remember' a previous session with the app. I realize what I'm trying to explain probably sounds really confusing lol sorry.
I rooted the Nook Tablet using adb and NookandZergy, installed the Go Launcher EX, and had no problems until an accidental tick of the "default launcher" box. I know there are several Q and A posts on the subject, but none seem to have my particular problem.
- I seem to have no access to the developer setting or anything outside of the standard Nook settings. I don't see a way to access the developer settings, though when I plug the NT into a usb port, the notification for developer mode does come up.
- I have no "web" access, as in, I have no ability to open a web browser. I believe I may have deleted it when installing the root using one of the DOS options. The same goes for the search function.
- Going through the "library" app, I can see the android system UI files, etc., but nothing that could seem to help. I also can't launch any .apk files. The NT cannot read the file and claims it is an unsupported format.
I know I have tgps_launcher installed, at least I'm 95% certain that I do. I cannot seem to access it, unless I'm unaware of all the ways to do so. I think I've provided all the info surrounding this. If I have to nuke it and reroot, I will, though I would like to avoid that option and am unsure how to do so.
Any help is appreciate. Thanks in advance.
How to switch the default home launcher for HomeCatcher once I've already set it?... This link is in my FAQ >> i would suggest you to read it.
~ Veronica
Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately this isn't possible solution, as it requires use of the "search" function. The search function for the NT Home was removed during the rooting process and is unavailable.
For the sake of argument, I tried to look for some sort of search functionality and found nothing. The only option, as I stated before, was to use the "library" app search function. This only displays actual Nook apps, however (Crossword, etc.).

Clever! Unfortunately, that was a no-go too. I went through Nook Friends to get to the google sign-in page, from there I got a mock google.com homepage going and found a download, but none of the ones I tried would work, the psuedo-browser would just crash.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to remove the stock launcher, but my gf actually prefers that interface to the Go Launcher (it's her device, I'm just doing the heavy lifting for her). I think I'm going to cut my losses and do the manual reset from your FAQ. Going with that, are there any launchers that more closely resemble the original Nook Home, or maybe a method of importing some of the icons/functionality of the rooted stuff to the Home? In any case, I'm going to be looking putting AnyCut and/or NT Hidden Settings to have several backups in case this happens again.
Thanks again for your help.

You can use stock launcher and still have an alternative one for when you use it (lets say) and change between them by using homecatcher or another app like home switcher, you may want to go to B&N setting > search> searchable items and check more items there; also in the quick tips section of my FAQ tell you what app to use to add android apps to default nook home launcher.
BTW just checking when i opened the netflix app you get some links there to open browser but if its crashing then you probably have to start from scratch 'cause that's not normal behave anyway.

Had the same thing happen to a friend's NT that I had rooted for him, and besides all that you mentioned "Button Savior" was there but didn't do anything. You are pretty much stuck.
I ended up having to do the 8+ factory resets and re-rooting, and then restoring everything from TiBackup. At least once you have the drivers working on your computer it's really not that big of a deal. I read somewhere that it might be related to "Homecatcher" but not sure about that.

hi how can i preform a total exit from stock browser in ics (with sense4)?
i mean, all the time that i'm exsiting from the browser, when i open it again it shows me the last page i was, instead my home-page like in the computer browser. so i wanna know how i'll be able to preform a totall exit, so when i'll enter again the browser it will show me my home-page?
sorry for my spelling,
tnx.
Go to browser settings > tab settings > uncheck restore tabs.
I don't know if it's a bug in the browser or in ICS or in the rom I use but if I turn off the restore tabs setting the browser always crashes when I open it after it's been killed. I open the browser and nothing happens. I try to go to my bookmarks and the browser force closes. I open the browser again and the same thing happens. It works fine after the third attempt.
did u already tried pressing back until exit? when u did that,go to task manager and close it. I seldom use stock browser because of that..

that's the only that i exit, and yet it always shows me the last page i've been. i'm opening for sugestions on any other good browser tnx.
I have very little data on my plan and don't use my phone a lot for internet so wondered if it's possible to set my START page to Google, for example.
Every thread I find about Chrome, those settings aren't there any more.
Can't find any for Firefox.
Can't find any for the default browser.
I just want the browser to start up EVERY SINGLE TIME with the blank Google search page rather than reloading the last tab I was in.
Thanks!!!!
Hello,
if you are using Chrome or Firefox, you need to close the tab, if you don't want to use he browser. If you will start it then, only the blank Google search will open.
No, if you are using Chrome or Firefox, it reopens the tab you last had open every time you reopen the browser.
I want to close the browser no matter what tab I had open and have it open only the page I want. It's easy to do on a desktop, I cannot find out how to do it on mobile. It reopens the last tab every single time I reopen the browser. I do not want this.
Why do you don't just close the tab?
You mean press home every time I exit the browser? Because I don't want to have to bother to do this. I just want to set a default start page. It can be done on the Blackberry no problem but Android doesn't seem to be able to do it any more.
No, not home. Just close all tabs by pressing X.
But maybe we should wait for another person, who knows this better.
what not in the settings
how is taht possipole due
no i think you didnt search well
in mine stock browser its in settings>>>start home page and there you can edit the url of the start page
