[Q] Dismantle Camera on Atrix - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Due to work requirement I need to dismantle the camera in the phone.
I'm going to buy the ATRIX and would like to know if it's possible to do that?
As I looked in android forum:
http://androidforums.com/motorola-a...-guide-everything-under-hood.html#post2328478
the camera is connected to several other parts in the same assembly.
Can you confirm that it is possible to dismantle the camera only
Thank's

Dude, just get a $30 phone with no camera (an old nokia) for work...dismantling the camera on a new phone is crazy if u ask me

I'm pretty sure you can't just freeze the camera.apk so I think your sol with any newer phone.

This will not work as they require full removal of camera so it will not be possible to make easy change to bring back the camera

In this case I'd probably pick up a burner phone for work... just grab a cheap pay as you go one. What an annoying employer.... to keep you from using your precious at work.. evil!

I know it's annoying but I don't like to have two phones. As you know a phone today is not just a phone (esspecialy when you take the ATRIX)

I know, man. It just sucks that you'd have to dismantle the camera. Would a soft mod suffice or does your employer need the hardware 100% physically removed?

Its not really "evil employer", its a confidential job. Unless you just work at Victoria's secret. They don't like cameras on the floor due to people wanting to steal designs.

Please help me fix my camera! Black patch..

Hi All,
I just bought the Photon 4G day before night and am loving it
But I realized that camera is showing a black patch on the screen... Its there in the file even when i take snaps as well as record videos Its set there permanently (same spot). Its somewhat translucent.
Please can anyone help me out fixing it cause its disappointing me somewhat
I have attached few images to let you guys know how it looks..
Oh and I think I dont need to point out the location of this ****. Its at the same spot in all the three images. In the second pic below the androids right leg...
P.S. Tried resetting the phone to factory setting, tried removing the battery.. No warranty for the phone. Bought it from Ebay India. Its the USA Sprint phone..
If cleaning does not help guess you will need a new one.

I did try cleaning it. The glass is absolutely flawless. So the main sensor / chip is defective i guess. I came across people facing, if not the same, but similar issues with their Android phones. I am not sure.
I hope I see someone who could manage to fix it or I'm totally out of luck. Have to live with that ass forever lol. Hope it doesnt expand any more!!!
you already stated you cleaned it ,so I will not beat that dead horse. If I were a betting man (I'm not really) I would say you have one of two issues.
1. (and I hope its not this) that phone was dropped and something broke or cracked internally.
2. Someone took it apart and lint or dust got between the lenses. Good Luck.
Althought #1 is possible, everyone I know with high end Smartphone treats them like 2 month old babies!

I dont think it has fallen... Its absolutely without any scratches or anything anywhere.. ANd the mark looks like a tiny butterfly! lol which is kinda transparent. I tried manually makin some marks on the camera lens with a blue marker pen, but that doesnt look the same at all. it just brings a blue hue (ink color) on the image. You cant see it as a mark (spot like in this case)..
And I'd like to mention one more thing. This thing, when I zoom it to the next level, it moves to the left and when I zoom it even more, it gets off the screen! (outside)Funny!
And about the dust thing, I really doubt..
Looks like dust on the sensor cant do ne thing unless u dismantle the whole camera module.

Strange I must say. We have Digital Zoom, not Optical. Is your phone Rooted with stock ROM?
Have you tried shaking it to see if the spot will move ??

I agree with farookh. If this were an SLR, I would say dust on the sensor and give you pointers on how to clean it. Since the sensor is internal here, you probably need to return it and get a new one versus voiding any warranty by trying it yourself.

OK. Let me tell a trick as former sprint store manager. I just used this to replace my epic so I know it still works.
If you have to phone active on your account call technical support about the phone. Tell them you are calling because a Rep at the store instructed you to call and do a "advanced exchange" on your device. Tell tech support that the store couldn't fix it and didn't have a replacement phone for you. Say they wouldn't exchange for new device and gave u a hard time. It is important to sound like your very unhappy. If they mention insurance, say your phone didn't qualify because the phone suffered no damage, it is a manufacturer defect as told to you by the repair Rep.
They may attempt to ask you what store u went to. Cut them off and say sir, I am not dealing with store again. U going in circles and feel everyone is spinning u and don't want to replace phone.
They will process advanced exchange and you swap phones through mail. They will send new one and you ship back old one.

If its dust and we only have digital zoom, shouldn't the spot still remain even after zooming? why does it move outwards
And I noticed 1 more thing yesterday... When I focus the camera (specifically that point!!) towards the sun, the spot just dissolves in the light and is not visible... Same is the case when I point it towards some very bright source.

Its stock ROM. I tried using a couple of camera apps, but still no luck. The spot appears on all. Do these apps use the same module used by the Default camera App? If yes, is there a way to reinstall the module.

And when I lookup my phone's IMEI on motorola, I see that it is under warranty till Oct 2012...
Do you think I can get a replacement being here in India. I have the box, the manual and the handset.

So no help anyone?
I don't think its safe to attempt a screen repair without something like a blow dryer. There are plenty of threads and videos showing how to do the screen repair but I have always seen them use a blow dryer. Sorry I can't be of more help, in case you haven't seen the video I'm speaking of ill post it. Here is the video everyone goes to in order to replace the screen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLUl9tlHSik&feature=youtube_gdata_player.
Found this video as well, this guy removed it with no blow dryer but he had stand alone replacement screen l, here it is if you wanna check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H_g4l2_AuQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player

It is extremely difficult to replace the screen without buying a digitizer and screen set. A special machine puts the screen and digitizer extremly close together making it almost impossible to take the screen and digitizer apart without breaking the digitizer. Its better just to replace both
Sent from my One S using xda app-developers app
If the phone you bought has a working digitizer and a working LCD, you don't even need to use a heat gun. You can just take the whole LCD+digitizer assembly out of the phone you bought (or opposite, because you open the phone from the back side and you take all components out until you are left with just the screen assembly). Then you can put your Vibrants parts there instead.

You can't flash a t959v ROM with front camera. Although if you'll find an i9000 ROM you like I'll get permission from the dev hopefully and port you one son that from facing works. You are talking about a vibrant with FFC right?

I'm pretty sure most custom Roms support a FFC now, there are Froyo Roms that support a FFC so I'm willing to bet a JB ROM will. If for some reason you have trouble you can check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945791

I didnt take apart the whole thing, but maybe I will in future. The whole thing was simple and ya much easier than the htc one. Once the back cover is off, the rest is simple also since its in sections and screws are visible.

DO you know if the camera is replaceable with the camera from HTC one? I counted the number of screws and i could get 9 on my the international model, but i do remember you said 13. for me there are 3 at the left side and four on the right and then two in the middle one of which has a void sticker. I am yet to see the other screws. i hate to take away the stickers
The camera should be replaceable since its the same camera as the htc one. Can you take a pic of the back of your phone and post it here so I can see it and let you know where the screws will be

i wont say i had the exact perfect screwdrivers, but this - 360/PH00x50 Screwdriver was useful.

i ain't no professional so the OP might give you a better answer.
Thank you . That's a Philips screwdriver model. What I need to know is the model of triwing screwdriver because almost all the screws are from this type. Bought an original housing from eBay with beats logo!!! Seller told me it was from a test unit and I want to put it on my Max. The beats logo looks fantastic

For posterity: The size needed for the Max is Tri-Wing #00. That size can be a little hard to find, but this kit has it and it's got a good hard tip (unlike many cheap ones):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089NNRL4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Note: You want Tri-Wing, not Tri-point. There is a small difference between the two.

[Q] Z2 Camera Auto Focus

Hi Guys,
My Z2 is not auto focusing on anything further than about 15cm away, just get a blurry pic.
I don't get the green block or anything like it anymore and cant say if its attempting.
I have tried different ROM's custom and standard but no difference as well as locked and unlocked bootloaders.
The question is, is the autofocus part of the camera hardware?
I can pick up a Z2 camera for around $40 but don't want to import if its not going to help.
Extra info before people ask:
1) Yes it went for a swim and got condensation inside (+- 2 months ago)
2) No proof of purchase so cant get it replaced by Sony
Any ideas ?

Eeeehhh, a $800 is somewhat at stake but thats your decision
My guess is a faulty sensor its self cause its one unit as well as the fact that others have had the exact same issue

Broken camera module/software bypass

Long short, dropped my phone which broke the rear camera module. On android 6 the phone correctly detects a disfunctioning rear camera and only allows the front camera to be used.
This issue happened on Sony stock rom, shortly after an update was released for Sony stock android 7.
Since then I have flashed a large number of roms, both stock and custom. No luck finding a fix.
On android 7, the cameras cannot be used at all. Any app that tries to use a camera hangs and crashes. Doesn't matter if apps try to load the front or rear camera, or the flashlight.
This includes settings apps, quick toggles, apps like Skype and snap chat cannot even be opened. Google apps constantly crash, Google translate takes forever to load.
Is there any way I c an separate or mark the camera not to be used at all? Would like to have front camera functionality as is in android 6.
Currently using lineage OS 14.1-20170809, android 7.1.2
Happy to mess around in root settings, suspect I might need to edit the kernel. No experience in coding or programming but competent in backups and twrp, flashing, fast boot.
Logcat indicates camera every time there's a hang or crash.
This issue has been super frustrating and I'm not quite willing to purchase a new device just yet.
I'm not sure if it's permitted, but I'm quite happy to provide litecoin (ltc, bitcoins little sister) as a way to accommodate your time and show my appreciation..
Thankyou!

Good to read that it's working fine again
Can you elaborate how you replaced the camera module ?
Did you follow ifixit (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Sony+Xperia+Z5C+Rear+camera+&+Earpiece+&+Front+camera+Replacement/53287) ?
Or did it someone replace it for you ?
Heya zach! Actually neither. Pulled apart an m4 that I have which suffers from the battery issues, to check on camera compatibility before deciding to open my device. You know what the problem was? A ****ing loose connection.
In saying that, I had some interesting success with removing references to hal and restoring a camera apk and data from an Android 6 install
