My Stock firmware is 2.1 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm new to this rom stuff guys i read around and still can't seem to find the answer...
since the Vibrant stock fw is 2.1-Update 1
DO i have to download a rom that's 2.1?
or can i just go to 2.2.1 or 2.2?

so your on 2.1update-1 thing?
and want to get a 2.2 or 2.2.1?
Just root your phone, get rom manager, flash clockwork recovery, then flash roms. there's guides on this, their stickied.
Find em' im on phone

what I'm trying to say is do i need to be on firmware 2.2 to run roms 2.2 etc.

No. Root/rom manager/clockwork/pick your rom/flash per devs instructions. Literally that simple and almost as fast as you reading this.
The rom will wipe and flash over any existing firmware you have no matter what.

Oh ok thanks <3!

Just flash a custom rom that has 2.2 on it
No need to use Kies to upgrade.
You can either upgrade with ODIN (if you really really want the official KA6 release, read more about it, there are plenty of guides).
Or you can just install ROM Manager, flash Clockwork recovery and install a custom ROM right from 2.1. There are also guides on how to do this.

sHOULD I install KA6 OR KB1 ? and can i use AIO VIBRANT TOOLBOX ?
I think the toolbox is the easiest way for a noob to get started, especially with ODIN. Try reading the stickies at the top of the general, Q&A and development sections and all your questions will be answered.

[Q] about upgrading & downgrading

i haven't got the machine yet, i dont find the tutorials available are noob-friendly and something about upgrading & downgrading are not clearly mentioned, maybe it's just because i am a little bit retarded.
if im not mistaken to install custom froyo rom from the stock 2.1:
stock 2.1->root->recovery->install rom, right?
So how do i get back to stock 2.1?
Is it useful to backup stock 2.1 using the recovery?
When i want to get back to 2.1 from froyo can i just restore my backup through recovery or i need any flashtool?
PLease help me
I dont know why you moving to 2.1 ROM when you can get amazing future on custom rom.
But you if decided then search for stock ROM 2.1 in forum it will be in .zip format (I got once but forgot link) OR go to SE web site choose your device & follow instation process with the help of SE PC suite.
Hope this is useful.

[Q] rooting help!

sorry for posting thiss but i cannot find an answer anywhere guys. Okay this might be a dumb question but my fascinate came stock with 2.1, and i have updated to 2.2 and then now running 2.3 do i have to flash it all the way back to 2.1 for roms? or is there a way i can root with my un-stock 2.3?
You don't need to root to flash roms.
The only reason you would root at this point, is ONLY if you where going to stay with the stock ROM and wanted to remove software that came pre-installed.
Flash whatever ROM you want, you can flash no matter what version you are on, 2.1, 2.2, or 2.3. Just make sure you do your homework, and learn about what you are flashing first, and if there are any other necessary steps to flash.
ooohh okay so if i root thats only if im going to 2.1 and going to stay there?
thnx alot answered a question that no one else has for me
All custom roms will come pre-rooted. So all you need to do is flash the appropriate recovery, and flash a rom. Your phone will be rooted.

Help with upgrade to ICS

Im new to all this flashing and messing with mobiles and am a little lost so i need some help. I have a SGS2 running Checkrom V4 which im very happy with i have CWM installed and my rom backed up but i would like to upgrade to ICS. My issue is after doing loads of reading im not sure that its done through recovery and when you do have ICS on your device you don't have CWM so no easy way as far as i can tell to go back to gingerbread. I have odin on my PC that's setup and mobile Odin on the phone i just need someone to give some idiots instructions, what worrys me the most is no recovery. Is it worth waiting for a official ICS to come out that's stable with CWM or some other easy way to change roms, as i understand it some country is due it officially today.
Does someone have a idiot guide they can do for me of a decent stable Rom and how to install it and how the recovery works, i would really appreciate it, as all the threads have multiple parts that need flashing not just a simple rom there's add this and that. That doesn't worry me but i worry about becoming stuck on a ICS rom that's a load of ****, ideally i would like just a standard stock official UK rom that updates itself OTA or is stock with root and CWM but iknow we could be waiting a while for that.
thanks
Stickies...
Those are about the only thing i hdnt read.
cheers
