Is it hypothetically possible for something (a ROM, or something more simple) to force the Vibrant to run in monochrome? With absolutely no colors?
Yeah I think it would be possible. CyanogenMod has a feature to only render certain colors (or something to that effect) for potential battery savings.
Is that why you were asking? Or is there another reason you would use this?
I know there use to be a ROM that was all B&W.. It was one of the earilier versions of Loki..

I second this motion, I love the blackout theme for bionix but it would be way better to have a comepletely black and white phone with no colored icons

Battery savings would be nice, but I'm more in agreement with what streeghtrider nick said.. at times I just feel like the colors are too much and want to revert to something that is simpler (and, personally, classier).
Washed-out, or grayed, tones would be even nicer.
I did a search for "cyanogen mod render color" and some interesting/promising links showed up. I'll look into them more and post an update.. hopefully.
I was just curious, because, yeah as a theme it would be great. For media consumption (anything more than reading an e-book), not so much. There are more than a few black and white themes here. You can also download icon packs to complete the look.
But to only render in black and white, watching movies/videos wouldnt be too great. Not to mention the number of apps/games that use color cues as part of the UI.
Thankfully, with CM's implementation, these can be toggled without rebooting, with an app or widget on your homescreen. If you really want to give it a go, theres a CM beta in the development section. Keep in mind, the GPS is currently broken. So if you're like me, and use GPS all the time, you'll want to stay away.

So there doesn't seem to be a thread for this specifically for the Optimus line. It's just like it would be for any other device. The best way, I feel, to start is to describe widgets/themes used. If you like what someone has as their setup, compliment them. It's pretty simple. And I would like to remind people to please be appropriate. All that having been said, here is my setup.
I am running Cyanogenmod 7 on an Optimus T, but I'm using the Optimus One's Rom because the one specifically for the T has a camera issue and still doesn't have wifi calling working which would be the one reason I would swap.
I'm using Minimal Magic theme by UpwardSpiral for the T-Mobile Theme Chooser which is part of CM7. I am using ADW Launcher EX and a medley of ADW themes with ADW.faded being the main one used.
This is my Green Lantern Theme. A bit nerdy, sure, but is anyone else as hyped for the upcoming movie?
Left screen is mostly for convenience. I have the power control widget with an assimilation of apps that I use most often.
Middle is the main screen. I'm using picture frame, Minimalistic Text, and Clockr.
Right screen is used mainly for widgets/media. I have my DoubleTwist widget, my countdown timer, (counting down to the premiere of Green Lantern, of course )
date provided once again by Minimalistic Text, and my Pandora Radio widget.
UPDATE!
Ha update on my homescreen. Got tired of the average feel of it. Made it seem too generic android, so here I present to you, the new and improved Green Lantern theme for Optimus.
UPDATE!!
This is the complete theme! I'm much more proud of this than I was before. This is the result of several hours lol. I think it's worth it just for the bragging rights of having something vastly different than everyone else.
Left Screen still for convenience. Minimalistic Text. Middle/Main screen is much more avant garde and I'm thoroughly pleased with it. It uses Desktop VisualizeR that leads to a SiMi Folder with all my apps with a circled png Green Lantern emblem. Right screen is for media/games.
Final Update for my Green Lantern Theme
I know I said the last one was finished, but now I'm done. At least until I figure out how to theme the market. Thanks go to the creators of Minimalistic Text, Dont Panic for his morph dialer, the UOT Kitchen for helping me with the hard stuff, Me for my hours of work on theming/perfecting this lol, and of course, the Green Lantern Corps. haha. But in all seriousness, thanks to the aforementioned. Without them, I would be staring at a dismal looking phone still!
Details: my Green Lantern emblem is a .png for Desktop Visualizer which I have connected to SiMi Folder with all my apps. If you click "in brightest day," you get sent to the market. If you click "in blackest night," my handcent opens up.
My Handcent theme:
Haha last Green Lantern theme
Here is the last update. I can finally focus on making another theme after friday because that's the release date!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I checked the whole Optimus sub-forum. Just a broad search, but it yielded no results. I'll check it out.
This is my new theme. I'm calling it Gory Graffiti.
For whatever reason, the red doesn't look uniform on the screen shots, but it is. It's the color #A10000 which is much more vibrant than the one shown. What do you guys think?
Well...As you guys see, many icons of the leaked rom has a bad resolution, also, the connectivity icon need a redesign completely, can anyone remake those icons better?

that actually doesn't address any of them. all the icons and status icons are not sharp on this build, and the statusbar fix doesn't change that.
I can try my best and once i've read up on how to change them, I'll start working on it soon, but I have to say that I feel a lot of people are more worried about the other stuff like front-facing camera and the fingerprint scanner, and so stuff like this isn't really bothering them. any icons you wanna request first?
oh, and I can't guarantee that i'll be working on it when the official GB comes out (so excited!! =D) but i'll work as fast as i can and if anything, try to get at least some of the stock icons a bit better. =]
~jojojohnson7410~
-EDIT- after about a 2 second research on google and from some past knowledge, it seems ADW Launcher seems to be the way to go. Any other launcher?
I'll keep researching and working to get the ones for stock launcher if i can.
-EDIT2- found it. lol that didn't take long. Okay, the good thing is that it looks to be a simple edit to the apks, which shouldn't be too bad. the bad news? Don't know how great I am with Photoshop (been a while). Will try to brush up if anything, and then get to it =] Sorry if this takes me forever cause this will be my first mod.

Ok, maybe I am missing something here......but the status icons are in the status bar fix, right? That fix replaced the status icon which is what the OP complained about. As far as the app comment, what apps? Mine look fine so I don't know what he is talking about. Not being sarcastic here.....I just do not see the same issue.

wait....question before i do start on this little project. The answer to this question will determine if i go for a theme here (if i have time >.< time seems so fleeting nowadays) or if i take this up as a legit project.
Did you change the default ppi settings in the build.prop?
I'm sorry if its a stupid question, but I just wanted to clarify. If you don't know what I'm talking about, its the section where they allow you to change the density of your screen. Apparently, GB has it set to 240 ppi when our screens are 275 ppi and I do remember vaguely having this problem. As i thought more and more about your request, it seems this is more an issue of your screen clarity as oppose to the icon clarity, as the icons can only go max 48x48 pixels for apps (as i believe) and all of the icons, at least from stock at the very least, should be at max.
So, if you didn't yet, try editing the build.prop and changing the 240 to 275. Suggest you use Root Explorer =] and if you still feel its not that clear, reply back or pm me and i'll see what I can do to fix it.
~jojojojohnson7410
he's talking about the icons and app icons. if you look at all of them, they appear to have been scaled-up images of smaller icons and so they have a slight amount of blur/aliasing in them and they are not 100% "sharp" images with corners and such as you saw in the stock builds. this is partially why the LCD density and such is off on the stock moto launcher.
I am using go launcher and am not having any issues with the app icons, and the link above fixes the connection icons.
Mobile link has been fixed....
O.K. Boys & Girls. Here we go. This Theme was made from Simply Stock for Simply Stock. If you flash over Simply Honey 5.1 you will meet Odin! If you download and/or flash this and you get a paperweight...you knew the risk...
Much Thanks go to Explodingboy70 & Perka.
there is very little ICS in TS II yes, like everyone else there is some.
made mild changes in music.apk "colors blend better"
still working on the gmail.apk, launch icon changed.
DID NOT really change systemui.apk...maybe in an update?
anyway there are more .apk edits. some are done some are not.
If you did download Twisted Stock 1.0 then download Twisted Stock II...I did make some updates, I can't help myself...

I just slipstreamed Twisted Stock II files in to Simply Stock and the only annoying bug I have found is that the battery isn't 1% intervals. For instances I have 83% battery and the battery icon is stuck on 100. I like some of the new icons you have introduced but I would recommend changing the wifi icon on notification bar. I find the wifi word in it distracting and cheesy looking. Maybe just clean up the wifi icon and remove the wifi word. I would also prefer the colored segmented 1% battery. This circle one looks cheesy. The phone and my files icons definitely needs replaced with something cleaner and more professional imho. I would also like to see all transparent menus as we as transparent dropdown notification bar and blue notification widget buttons. I really don't like any of the dropdown widget icons either. They don't look right with the theme and make it look cheap and scattered. I absolutely loved the icon sets from splash of color and vibranthd themes. If you could integrate some of those and the changes above you would make this the best color theme ever. By the way the roboto font from ics looks amazing with this theme and all other roms and themes. Of course all of this is my opinion and I'm anal when it comes to themes. I really appreciate your hard work and I hope you consider my opinion. Have you thought about doing a full ICS clone theme with accurate segmented or honeycomb battery. Now that would be beautiful! I was running cm7 with ics cm7 theme v1.2 modded with honeycomb accurate battery and ics lock and is beautiful and smooth on the latest cm7 nightly with robotic font. I'm glad google got away from the ugly gingerbread green and went with that blue color!

Ok I love what I'm seeing .....dl'd simply stock and am looking for the twisted link ;-)
It seems like such a simple thing...it can be done system-wide by editing the framework file, but it seems like using the CM Theme Engine would be much nicer.
Is there any such theme, which is just Holo Light (or Holo Light with Dark Action Bar)?
I second that request. I have a feeling Key Lime Pie will put a huge emphasis on Holo Light and I want to be a part of that.

i've looked and looked, i don't think it's been done.
I think the closest you will get is a miui theme :/
I haven't tried it, but https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cm.theme.HoloWhite looks nice in the screenshots.

How do you do this on a system wide level by editing the framework file? I tested a couple of CM holo light themes but they dont work to well on the S4 due to the screen resolution I think but I would really like to enable it...

There's a thread on XDA about it (I think in this forum, or in the SW Development forum), but the answer is effectively changing "theme=holo" to "theme=holo.light" in one of the framework XML files. Since Holo, Holo Light, and Holo Light with Dark Action Bar are in-built Android themes, this change lets all OS rendered screens (preferences, etc.) change theme. It doesn't affect applications (since that's an application preference setting for Holo based applications), but it's a pretty elegant solution nonetheless.

I tried the first one, but the notifications and the tiles in the quick settings panel are dark and it looks very inconsistent.
The theme engine will. Other be able to make a complete light theme as it is limited in what it can do.

Back in the past on my Windows Mobile HTC Touch Pro, i had a battery indicator called VistaHide Battery Gauge v1.1.1 that looked like the photo I've attached.
I am wondering if anyone knows of a colored one for Android like it. I seen a screenshot somewhere (don't remember what forum) where someone was showing something on a screenshot and they had this bar. I messaged them but never received a reply to email and no longer know where I seen it. If anyone knows of one, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Some roms include the "miui battery bar" like viper Rom or miui (if you're into aosp roms). But there are apps like charge bar in the market that do it. Charge bar puts ads in your notifications though. T.E.A.M battery bar is nice too with no ads. They are restricted to one color at a time but you can change the color at certain percentages, I.e. less than 30% will be red, etc.

Yeah, I'd seen quite a few of them like that, but the screenshot I'd seen one guy post actually had the multi colors like the attached image. I don't know how he did it, and can't find the post I originally seen it on to try and contact him again. I guess I'll have to do without, but thanks though.

Hey ProtoProtoss, did you ever find this???
I would love to find the equivalent on Android as it is the most practical approach I have seen to battery level indication. I don't know why there are so many apps consuming valuable screen real estate and resources just to show a system statistic. The VistaHide model was beautiful by its use of the gradient coloring and idea of only consuming a few pixels. I am going to try the Battery Bar by TEAM, but it seems they don't know about or can't do the gradient.

I tried the T.E.A.M. Battery Bar and it is close to the VistaHide functionality. I got in touch with the developer who advises that color gradient is in the dev pipeline. So there is hope yet for a VistaHide reincarnation
(now if we can only figure out how to remove the stock battery icon from the status bar)
