in XRecovery, do a backup of your ROM, reinstall the original ROM, then do an advanced restore of just the data partition of the backup you just made. You should end up with the Stock Rom but all your settings will be the same as you had them when you did the backup. You'll also keep all your apps, messages and such this way.

Ok I installed the rom again, then gapps, hotfix and then I was clicking in the Advenced Restore and there are : System restore, Cache Restore etc. I got click only data, but what with these last, only data ? Or I must restore some other things ?.

Just "Restore data" and you'll be ok.

Ok, but what was saved in the ( system restore ) function. ?

You first did a backup in XRecovery. XRecovery would have did a complete backup of your \System, \Cach and \Data partitions. Since you only want to restore the \Data partition you go into Advanced Restore, select the backup you just did and then select Restore Data.

Yes, but when I not restore the system, then what that will do, will I have an error maybe ?

[Q] How do I restore my data / cache after wiping and flashing villainrom?

This might be a stupid question, but is there any way to get my backup restored? I just tried to restore a backup through CWM but it wiped my villainrom flash and went back to what I had before.

Is that not the whole point you backup XX try ZZZ decide you dont like it and restore the backup of XX which wipes ZZZ .

yes I realized that eventually, I thought the point was to save your data like apps, themes, etc. so you can load them in the new rom. my apologies
You should not restore cache. When you boot up to a new rom, it will just redo the cache anyways.
As for Clockwork Recovery backup and restore, it does a full backup of the rom, including cache and user settings and apps. It restores back to the original rom as well.
I think you want to restore your settings and applications of your old rom into villainrom. I wouldn't recommend it as it settings for stock and custom might be different and can cause weird issues.
on that note, is there any way to access that information after flashing the new rom (to see what apps i'm missing and download them all again so I don't have to just redownload each one as I realize i need it?) without restoring the backup
nevermind I ended up just going back to my old rom, thanks for the replies guys
There is this wonderful app called Titanium Backup, it backup all your wonderful apps. This way, when you switch ROMs, you can just restore all those wonderful apps that you have been stockpiling.

[Q] Is my nandroid restore not working or am I doing something wrong?

Ok I made a nandroid backup on my s2 Gti9100 a few days ago
I then tried to do a titanium backup and my s2 rebooted, I then recieved fcs from a load of apps constatly making it impossible to do anything. I was barely able to turn off, i had to keep taping ok untill i got to power off window.
Then I booted into cwm, wiped cache partition and dalvic and did nandroid restore, i then booted up, no fcs, but all my apps on sd came up in my app drawer and home screen with that grey android icon saying this app is not installed on your phone!
went to recovery again wiped cache and dalvic and data/factory reset
then restored system and data and still had the same problem!
what do i do
please help
p.s. i have not partitioned anything for use in apps like link2sd, no ex whatever
are you doing restore from Advance restore, as you mentioned " then restored system and data....." or from the main restore menu?
Did not you use the Titanium backup for your applications?
Do Not restore System Data is the usual answer to this problem .

Yes of cosrse, if he is doing his restore from Titanium back up,
but OP's concern is about his Nandroid backup, which is a photocopy of his earlier ROM, NO option to avoid system Data restore unles he goes into the advance restore of CWM....

yes i am using advanced restore
and it was titanium backup that caused my problem in the first place, while i was trying to backup
all my settings are stil here aswell as the apps in internal. I think only the apps moved to sd are messed up
could it be a problem with .androidsecure? should i delete this and let nandroid replace it after restore, or does nandroid even backup that?

I dont mind what method you think of aslong as I can get back to that point
would it be a good idea to extract app backups out of nandroid using titanium, just an idea, i just saw it in its options
if its complicated please explain as im not a phone expert
it is not complicated but a good idea if you have Titanium backup pro (donated version), otherwise you cant...when you selct that option you will automaticaly get prompted the list of applications to install....
By the way why are you selecting advance option for restoring....?
do like this, wipe cache, wipe data fatory reset, and in advance wipe dalvik cache,
go back to Backup and restore select restore at main menu (no advance restore) and select your backup and restore....finish all your stuffs are back....

hmmm, that is why you are not getting your apps back when you do nandroid restore...
your backup was not done smoothly, only your system data backed up well not user apps...bad luck
so ive lost it all?
Should i delete .androidsecure, is it just junk files now?
great news!!! turns out all my personal data was kept, I just reinstalled everything and it wae back to normal
p.s. i think the cause of nandroid backup fail was lack of space on my phone, how can i backup to external sd?
If you use the CWM app you can choose between internal/external SD for the location of the backup.

How to clean my SGS II ?

hello
how can I clean my SGSII ,phone SD, and external SD card from old installation files, folders,. Bla bla bla
now I have my ideal settings , ROM , everything ,
is there any way to format everything then restore CWM backup ?
thx
Backup everything (Ti, Nandroid, calls, sms, etc). Format cache, data, system & internal sd card in CWM. Flash stock rom in Odin, CFRoot to get CWM, flash rom/kernel of your choice. Then clean install your apps from Google Play/wherever you got them from (preferable) & restore calendar/contacts from Google, & restore call/sms log with whatever app you used to back them up (provided this app only backs up/restores the logs/sms themselves & not the apk like some of these apps do). You could also restore your apps with Ti (not system apps) but if you do, don't restore data.
That will give you a clean start.

can I transfer the CWM backup to PC , then transfer it again to SD card after installing ROM, and restore the CWM backup ?
btw I have two CWM backups and I'm unable to restore one of them ,.it stock on " checking MD5 sums" for a while then phone boots without restoring anything
Of course you can. But what's the point of doing a clean install if you're going to restore a Nandroid which is a copy of your setup at the time you took the backup ? Kinda defeats the purpose. If you're having problems which you think are as a result of having a lot of crap on your phone; easy to happen if you haven't done a wipe for a while/have flashed a lot, if you restore a Nandroid you're going to have the same problems.
Personally, I do the steps I suggested every 4-6 weeks (instead of flashing stock after I wipe everything I normally flash CM9 Resurrection via Odin & go from there). I find it's an hour or two well spent. Phone runs much better after.
Up to you which way you want to go tho.

[Q]backing up the rom with cwm

Hi
I want to install a costume Rom on my phone
but first I want to make a backup of my stock rom (just in case)
I found a backup option in the CWM app
so i need to know:
dose this option backs up only the Rom or will it back up the kernel also?
Are there better ways to backup the rom?
in general what does the "create a backup" option do? (in CWM in mean)
thanks in advance
best regards
backs up all but not the EFS and Modem

the backup option will backup every thing on you system and data partition but not the kernel and modem..
there is no better way than this..
correct me if I am wrong:
1-the backup options backs up my data (such as save data for games) too
2-if I want to restore to my stock firmware, this backup WON'T do it properly since it won't restore the kernel

It backups everything including kernel except modem and efs. So if you restore it back you will have your stock kernel there

As Bala said Kernel is backed up..so I may be wrong here..but I read somewhere that kernel is not backed up..so anyways..you will have the stock kernel if I am wrong..
the games data is stored on your internal sdcard..so it wont be backed up..and in between if require a factory reset it will be lost..
thanks guys
you helped me so much (and fast)
and one more thing i remembered right now:
the backup will be a CWM flashable zip file.right?

To restore you go to backup and restore and select restore(from internal or external sd card) depending on where the back up was created.

i need suggestions

i have unlocked bootloader, installed custom recovery by NEXUS prime, rooted my phone
Now i want to know if install the the custom mods of apps ,toggle panels etc >>
q1- how to uninstall these customs mods??
q2- when i do factory reset what will happen do these custom mods changed permanently in my stock ROM???
q3- before installing anything i have been suggested to make recovery of that, now how can i make recovery of toggle panel or icons??
1.: Generally, there is no uninstall method. Workaround: Make a nandroid backup prior to installing and restore that backup for uninstalling.
2.: A Factory reset just wipes your data, cache, dalvik cache partitions. The mods you mean are installed in system partition.
3.: Do a nandroid backup after you installed the mods as well, so you can restore it anytime you want to have it back.

A nandroid backup is one of the most important things with custom roms.
In CWM and TWRP there is a backup option that will make a backup of your whole phone. So if you restore it later it will be the exact same as when you made the backup.
