What custom rom should I get. - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im stuck between vegan and tnt lite. Which one should I get?

I asked the same question to myself a few days ago when I first started researching them. Hope you don't mind me using your thread since I didn't want to start a similar topic. I think after doing lots of reading & video watching I've settled on VEGAn 5.1.1. I've been writing down items I'd like to add right away once I receive the g-tab on Wednesday. So far, I have the following things I need/want to do for sure:
- setup Wi-Fi connection
- Check firmware version to make sure it isn't 3991 & update to 3588 if 3389 is received as expected
- install clockworkmod, VEGAn 5.1.1, flash & market fix
- install malware exploit patch
The other apps & what not I'm thinking of adding are:
- a kernel (possibly clemsyn's)
- Titanium Backup
- Dolphin Browser HD
- Launcher Pro
- Quadrant
- Google Cloud Print
- ES File Explorer
- DroidEmuLite
- ROM Gripper
- WiimoteController
- Kindle/Laputa
- EZ PDF
- Samurai II Vengeance, Pinball Deluxe, Angry Birds Rio, etc.
I don't really want to overwhelm myself so I'm going to take this slow. I know there are alternate apps/ROMs/etc to what I've posted above but those look good from what I've read or seen. Not sure what other must-haves I'm missing though. I've looked into NVflash & adb a little. There was an alternate keyboard I liked but will have to track that down again.

It depends on what you're after. For the first month after I got the device, I stuck with stock plus gapps, then the enhancement pack. Then I finally went ahead and went to TNTLite, which I dug for a long time. However, after going to TwoTapsX (following TNTLite 5) and successfully using NVflash to get out of it, I decided I was going to try out Vegan. I first went with Ginger, but as much as I loved it, the My Apps thing drove me crazy, and when I tried the workaround, it borked the install. I then wiped again and went with Vegan 5.1.1, and I have to say: this is the most I've enjoyed the tablet.
The reasons for this are simple. TNTLite is a great ROM, very quickly updated, and with all the refinements one could ask for. However, I was always looking for a way to get to the Android control functions (like lockscreen and the ability to set a password for cached credentials) that aren't included in the settings menu.
Some refinements made in the TNT system (the browser interface, etc) might be missing in Vegan, but getting access to all Android configuration options makes me like it better than TNTLite can currently offer. I look forward to GoJimi/etc's continued work on GingerEdition, as I'm sure it's going to kick ass very soon.

I am using calkulin rom + clemsyn kernel + chenglu loopback megapack and my gtab flying. It is faster than my laptop @ duo core 2Ghz. Thanks to all developers.

Thank you very much guys, this is a great thread... From what I have read other than the stock browser, Dolphin HD should also be able to handle Flash 10.2. Please keep reviews coming and what you use the gTablet/ROM mostly for.

That is about the exact same list of core apps I use. Lol! Wiimote controller works great. I love gameboid and other emu apps when paired with the wiimote.
Dolphin HD is the only browser I have gotten hulu to work on.
Launcher pro is the awesome on gtab. The new 3d transitions look awesome on it
Titanium backup is a must if you want to try new roms but hate hitting the market for an hour downloading your apps again
To stick with topic though, I use VEGAn Beta 5.1.1 as a daily. I love gADAM and TnT lite a lot and switch between them here and there. Currently waiting for official release of VEGAn and word if viewsonic is heading in the direction of 3991. If they do I'm planning on moving onto twotapsx for a daily. At thus point its to much of a pain in the bum to switch between twotaps and other roms.

Post link plz to chenglu loopback megapack

Question. If im going to load Vegan 5.1.1 do i really have to do the OTA update? Since I will be wipping the rom and loading another rom. That means no point doing th OTA update to get version 3588 no?

If you have an earlier version than 3588 you need to do OTA to get there. If you are thinking about VEGANtab, I would stick with 5.1 ( not 5.1.1) for my first flash. It is the most stable version and you can easily move to 5.1.1 later. I suggest a check list procedure so you don't forget something and be patient as reboots take longer after flashing.

No, because you will be using nothing from it.
You use Clockworkmod Recovery as the recovery, not the stock one from the OTA.
You use VEGAn system, not the one from the OTA.
Install Clockworkmod Recovery, install VEGAn5.1, install the 5.1.1 supplement and I would update to one of the newer kernels as well (pershoot or clemsyn).

What is the OTA update? And do I have to install vegan 5.1 and then install the supplement 5.1.1?

My gTablet got much better with regard to wireless and Market app installations when I went to 5.1.1 from 5.1.
Looking for the most concise changelog and howto info for installing clemsyn kernel into VEGAn 5.1.1. if anyone has a link to such a thing.

I'm using Two Taps X .092 and it is the best by far. Side note using Firefox for browsing.

OTA = Over The Air. It updates the official release of firmware loaded on your tablet from the factory. You don't need this if you're flashing a custom ROM.
Yes... 5.1 then 5.1.1 supplement. They must be done in that order since 5.1.1 is sort of like a service pack.

[Q] Flash Player on the Viewpad 7

Hey guys,
any of you managed to get flash player 10.1/2/3 going on your viewpad 7? I found this cracked apk file on the net call flashplayer for armv6. It installed OK(at least seemed to be) but didn't make actual difference to the device. I still can't play facebook games, still can't play web-based flash... I've tried with different web browers but none of them would work, very sad....
I fully get it flash player only suppose to work with armv7 + but there's gotta be ways around this right??

I guess the CPU (600 MHz) and/or main board does not support Flash. It's the hardware, not Android.
EDIT: I heard that some of the mobile browsers do support flash on it own.
I think that Opera Mobile or Opera Mini do support it.
Think there is aleady flash 10.1 for our pad you can download it urself or install custorm ROM regads
Flash alone link:

ROM(kernel "overclocked to 850Mhz" and Flash 10.1 included-please read hw version note):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224825
I will be loading this ROM tomorrow(most probably)

Let us know how it works.
I"m not keen on rooting.
Knowing how inept I am, I will surely brick it.

Hi,
I have installed few custom ROMs already so feel quite safe... if your install prior to custom ROM eq Clockworks recovery then even if you brick pad you can recover and load whatever ROM u want...
I have now EUViewpad7 1.4 with build in flash ability and OT to 850Mhz and some tweaks...Rom works fine no issue with it.
Flash? hmm Works overally only problem I see is flash-Video--> when you try to wach it there are some color artefacts(which makes picture weird you can see video but colors get weird) or as with justin.tv browser is closing up but flash games etc works fine(maybe little slow).
Appreciate the advice.
Have 1.5 GB available but can`t install anything since RAM is down to 25 MB.

Gnash
The limitation is that the CPU only supports an ARMv6 instruction set, and closed-source Adobe Flash Player (tm) has been compiled for an ARMv7 instruction set. I do not see how a ROM update could solve that. Theoretically a ROM update could emulate an ARMv7 instruction set, but is that realistic for a platform that is mostly open source?
The more practical option would be to port Gnash to the Viewsonic devices. I cannot post links, but there is a page out there on how to build Gnash on android.
BTW, the thread is entitled "Viewpad 7", but it's also the same issue on the Viewsonic v350 smartphone.
i've tried the las flashplayer 10.2 and used Dolphin HD explorer and all works fine. Facebook games also works fine!

Maybe this is a difference between Viewpad 7 and the v350 smartphone. I was able to install that 10.2 package you posted, without error, but it fails to render flash content on the v350. I went to a couple different flash testing pages, including the one on the adobe website. It displays a Lego-looking box (like the puzzle piece that used to appear years ago); it's as if flash was never installed.

Jep this one is good
Ive installed new EU 1.6 rom and then updated flash to 10.2 and all works for me like a charm no issues with youtube hi def videos and even flash videos on webs are working...so its amazing we didnt had any flash on our tabs and now all work(yeah little slow but all works) video is quite vital can watch no problem
tested on: justin.tv wrzuta.pl
regards
I have installed the latest flash 10.2
it all seems to be working swimmingly except for one app
ESPN goals
The video of footy goals actually plays well except for a message bang in the middle of the screen blocking the main action
it states
"Cannot play video
Sorry, this video cannot be played."
and closing this message also closes the playing video
I guess this is an app/software issue and as such modification is needed which is a shame
Reinstalling an older version of espn goals seems to have worked 1.6 (I could not find 1.7)
1.8 is the latest
i just installed the flash player 10.2 on my viewpad 7 but i still cant play flash. It displays the lego with a "?" inside. In fact, when i go to setting manage application, i dun see the flash player running. What can i do?
Flash doesn't work
I've installed the EUviewpad-Rom 1.7. Flash seems to be included but doesn't work. My Viewpad has ite-hardware / hw1.07. On flashbuilder.eu it shows that flash isn't running.
for those who installed flash player on viewpad 7, is it choppy when watching videos online?
Unable to use Adobe Flash
I have tried all the Flash APKs found on this site. None work - period. My Viewpad 7 is HWVer 107 and is in factory unmodified condition. If anyone is having success running any of these versions of Adobe Flash, it would be helpful to elaborate on both the ROM version and browser you are using. Any further information would be greatly appreciated.
The core issues being that Vpad7 is based on ARMv6 CPU, which Adobe excluded when designing Flash Player 10.x development, so it really doesn't matter our hardware ver. is 106 or older, and newer ones v.107 - whether it's ITE touchscreen or not being irrelevant in this case. Java is installed along with Flash Player 10.1 or 10.2 - but it simply will NOT run.
Those with non-ITE hardware perhaps are luckier as their kernel can be over-clocked to run faster, so whatever workarounds or fixes can get it to run for them.
I have a HTC Eris with similar specs. and we had 10 times development work from XDA'ers, LOL, over what's dedicated here for the Vpad7, trying various patches to get it to run - and, still N.G. (no good.) The newer devices, like my HTC Incredible 2 with better specs - 1G CPU and add'l RAM - run Flash 10.1 out of the box - been rooted & running custom ROM to upgrade it to run better & faster.
Been uninstalling, re-installing both 10.1 and 10.2 - Dolphin HD browser & Skyfox browser plus the default ones - my summary: it simply won't do it. Moving on to other Apps that can be optimized, just my 2 cents. of course.
Cheers !
P.S. However, as long as I can watch YouTube on it like now, whether it's Flash 10.x or not, really doesn't matter to me (anyway.)

[Q] What to do now ?

My Atrix is SIM unlocked, rooted, bootloader unlocked and Gingerbread installed.
What to do now ? Just to use it as a smartphone only ?
Jocking. But suggestions appreciated.
- Is it really worth to try an other ROM ?
- Is there a possibility to connect a hard disk via USB port ?
- Is there a dual boot possibility to boot additional an other Linux operating system ?
- Is there any application to remote control my Atrix from my Linux (Ubuntu) laptop as a remote computer with desktop (homescreen etc.) of my Atrix ?
( Attention not talking about remot control of computer from the smartphone)
- How could a store (move) my
text massages (Gingerbread text messages)
emails (k9 mail)
videos (Gingerbread video camera)
fotos (camera zoom FX)
bookmarks, etc ... my profile of Firefox mobile
on my external SD card ?
Hi Folks ! My questions were not jocking, but probably too many of them.
So maybe one only:
Is it worth to try an other ROM when your phone is already unlocked and rooted with the original one ?
Until you've used cyanogenmod everything else is just.....lowbrow. Download the latest stable release of CM7 from the development forums. And you'll never go back to stock again.
Sent from Hyperspace using Tapatalk
Hi Phalanx7621 !
I have heard of cyanogenmod ROMs, but to my knowledge ( http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices ) there isn't an official one for the Atrix up to now, where everything (fingerprint etc.) is running fine.
Anyway, as I never used a different ROM, I have quite some difficulties to understand what are the benefits for doing like this. For sure there are, otherwise nobody would do. Maybe the ones of you who changed the ROM could share some facts with us the still non changed ones.
Maybe I am wrong, but if I compare this action with my ThinkPads. Should be comparable, as the Atrix is a kind of mini laptop and even running with Linux (Android). Same on my ThinkPads, they are real laptops and running Linux as well (Ubuntu). - Sorry can not compare this with Windows.-
To update the Android version from V 2.2 Froyo to Gingerbread V 2.3 is like an update from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10. Usually some improvements, bug fixes and updates. Fine.
To change the ROM. Isn't like to change the distribution on the laptop ? For example to change from Ubuntu 10.04 to Linux Mint 11. Both are on the same basic. More or less the only difference is the look & feel. All applications are the same. And even Ubuntu you can make it look like Mint or vice versa. No really need to change the distribution.
Maybe this is the same with changing the ROM. The look & feel.
But what about
- boot time ? Really different with different ROM ?
- the speed ? Really different with different ROM ? But when ? To open Firefox for example ?
- the used RAM by the operation system ? Any differences ?

There is a quasi-official ROM. Actually, it IS Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 with some fixes to get it running on out Atrix. The fingerprint does not work because only Motorola ROMS have both the kernel drivers and the libraries to make it working. Fortunately, the Atrix Cyanogenmod team is working on this and eventually they will find a way to make it working.
In any case, I find that the stock rom and the stock radio still has the best battery life (in my case, still Froyo). Maybe not the best performances, but I am pretty sure about the battery life.
Update: CM7 Atrix team have the permissions to build their nightly releases on Cyanogenmod build server. I believe that they are getting fully recognized by Cyanogenmod. Therefore, I would say that they are pretty much official.

Run Netflix on CM10 & 11 Xposed Framework module

You can run Netflix on CM 10 & 11 (4.2, 3&4) on EMMC through the latest CM10.2 nightly and CM11 builds.
The Kernel changes make watching Netflix in "MEDIUM" playback speed watchable. Only occasional bumps after the first 30 seconds. Great for a three year old tablet. I claim no credit, save some research time. I'm only pointing out the work of giants.
It works in CM11 (4.4) in most devices. PLEASE post a note with make and model as well as ROM you are using. If you try with Xposed Framework make sure and get the latest version. Also with CM11 on Nook Color (maybe others) You Must Use Liquid64's NetflixHackPersist.zip per option #2 and nightly 2-10 or later. Also you must use Ver. 3.2.1-B1346 netflix or earlier, Available below. Versions 3.3.1-B1463+ don't work for CM10 or CM11. I urge everyone to call Netflix at 1-866-658-3608 and complain about the new app that leaves so many behind. Also go to Twitter and Facebook and encourage others to let Netflix know their displeasure.
It is working on SD with CM11. See Post (#14) & (#39) for details. (Please, If you try on SD whether it works or not please post a reply in forum and I'll update.) Runs on my Nook Color with CM10.2 or CM11 on EMMC just fine, (See post #3 for 24+ others).
The Process, if your interested:
I had to do a lot of searching to find this since most of it is not on the Nook Color forums. I thought I would post the accumulated info and links here to make it easier for fellow Nookie (and others tablet) owners. Did also find that other tablets and phones are having the same problem with Netflix app. The following is a listing of things I have tried and know that they work on the Nook Color. Some of this has been mentioned sporadically on Nook Color (Encore) ROM and DEV forums.
The two forums with the most helpful info:
By Entropy512 Originator of the Xposed Netflix module All Exynos4 devices (Go there and give him thanks)
Use the XposedCM10.1NetflixWorkaround.apk below for Exynos4 devices
and
by Kaepernick - Changes that made it work on HTC Droid Incredible (And Nook Color and several others) (Go there and give him thanks)
Use the XposedCM10-10.1NetflixWorkaround-Dinc.apk below for all other devices
Option #1 - From Kaepernicks OP. If running CM11 on nook color must use option #2 and Ver. 3.2.1-B1346 netflix or earlier, Available below.
"Well, thanks to Entropy512's help, I was able to modify his Xposed hack to work on CM10 (based on Android 4.1) and CM10.1 (based on Android 4.2) for the Incredible. Using the newest Netflix app and it's working well without issue. It's easy to install. You just need two files:
Xposed Installer: See latest Xposed Installer file link in the link just above the attachments at the bottom of this post.
*****For Installer Forum and Updates: (Go there and give Rovo89 thanks)
XposedCM10-10.1 Netflix Hack: See attached file below (XposedCM10=10.1NextflixWorkaround-Dinc)
In order to install:
1. Download both files to the root directory of your SD Card. Install the Xposed Installer apk
2. Once Installed, open it up. Press the Install/Update button to install the Xposed Framework. Allow Superuser Permissions. Once it's done, reboot.
3. Install the Xposed Netflix Workaround apk. For Nooks, Droids, Etc use XposedCM10-10.1NetflixWorkaround-Dinc.apk
4. Open up the Xposed Installer and select the Modules button. You should see the Xposed Netflix Workaround option. Tap the checkbox. Reboot.
5. Open up Netflix. Enjoy.
The background of the app will be white, which is weird, but video will work."

*** Make the Xposed Framework persist through a CM ROM update with script "90-xposedpersist.sh" (in the 90-xposedpersist.zip), put the ".sh" file in the /system/addon.d/ folder. See Post #4 for specifics***
Option #2 - On Entropy512's site I noted that Liquid64 was working on a zip to make the install persist and has since done it. I have tried it and it works. It's easier than #1 but you'll miss trying the other modules in Xposed. If running CM11 on nook color must use option #2 and Ver. 3.2.1-B1346 netflix or earlier, Available below.
His response to my request to include his work is below: (You should give him thanks here)
"Just for reference, my zip file does not rely on the xposed modules. It is just an init.d script that changes the nflx_player_type value. There's also an addon.d script that backs up the init.d script in the event there is a firmware upgrade.
I guess is anyone is interested in looking at there, here it is:
(See attached files below: NetflixHackPersist.zip & removeNetflixHack.zip)
The addon.d script can be adapted to also back up the exposed modules, as Entropy512 had suggested above. "

There are two zip files. The Hack Persist.zip is installed from recovery to make the changes persist after upgrades without using the Xposed installer. The Remove.zip uninstalls the Hack persist also installed in recovery. The background of the App will again be in black.
This does work on SD on Nook Color running CM11. See Post (#14) & (#39) for details or
Copy NetflixHackPersist.zip to the root directory of the SD and rename it to cm-update.zip. Install the card and boot to Leapinlar's recovery to install to the card. Reboot and good to go.
I will try to keep this up to date as to any changes or problems. I found others on XDA did not know the Nook Color had the same problem. If you know of other tablets or phones using CM 10+ are having this problem let them know so they also might benefit.
Where is the NetFlix Icon?
I have received a couple of PMs asking where the Netflix shortcut (icon) is after installing the workarounds. These workarounds are fixes that allow the newer Netflix apps to work with the ROM. You must have the current Netflix app installed from the Google play store. The workarounds do not replace the Netflix app, nor do they install the Netflix app.
Problem with Netflix App Ver 3.1.0+?
If you have problems with updating to version 3.1.0, in app manager delete all data for Netflix then open Netflix and reenter user id and password. Then reboot the tablet. When you enter Netflix again everything should work fine.
All credit for the attached files goes to the authors listed above. I have also attached all needed files below including the latest updates. If you have any suggestions or questions please post below.
Personal note about Xposed Framework:
I encourage you to to install the latest Xposed framework (See link above attachments at the bottom of this post). I have found several of the modules available for downloading right in the Xposed app do great things. The App settings module gives an interface like Paranoid Android ROM without losing any of the CM greatness. Best of both worlds for me. See XDA article here: http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...ds-new-features-and-support-for-miui-and-x86/
For the diehards that just want a Netflix app that works and don't care if its the latest Netflix app.
I included the 1.8.1 version, just extract from the zip. Easier yes, more exciting no. I like a little excitement in my tablet. Also have added Version 2.0.2 which works on some devices. If running CM11 on nook color must use option #2 also.
Enjoy and spread this to everyone you know that wants to use the Netflix app on their devices and has been unable. (+85) If this helped you please hit the thanks button.

Rikomagic MK802 IV
SGS2 Epic 4G Touch running CM10.1
Verizon Note 2
Zopo 810 which is a quadcore mtk6589 SoC
Doesn't work on:
Galaxy note i717, running LiquidSmooth V3.1 (4.4.4) (probably ROM issue)
Make your Xposed Framework Persist also.
After some continued research and testing I have found this work around for having to reinstall Xposed and do a reboot after a ROM update.
I asked Rovo89 the developer of Xposed Framework and got this answer.
Is your ROM based on CM? Then this should work better for you:

I put Fiouz's script in file "90-xposedpersist.sh" and put the file in /system/addon.d/ in the Nook. If your tablet has this directory it should work.
The file is attached in the OP (in the 90-xposedpersist.zip),
I tried it for a few weeks and regular nightly ROM updates and works great on Nook Color CM 10.2 & 11 in EMMC. Should work on any CM 9, 10 or 11. Great time saver for nightly update addicts.

I am running CM11 on my NC and have attempted the Xposed Netflix workaround with the updated frameworks (updated apk) from this thread. I managed to get Xposed and my frameworks updated, (I also needed to update binaries using SuperSU) but now Netflix is crashing. If I unload the Netflix module, Netflix will run but I have the small playback window surrounded by visual "noise."
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any advise you can offer?

Unfortunately, I cannot provide any advice, but I wanted to add that I get the same thing in CM 10.2 on nightly 12/31. Netflix runs, but I too have the small playback window surrounded by visual noise. So it is not unique to CM11.

In the OP under: Problem with Netflix App Ver 3.1.0+?
If you have problems with updating to version 3.1.0, in app manager delete all data for Netflix then open Netflix and reenter user id and password. Then reboot the tablet. When you enter Netflix again everything should work fine.
Something about the update from prior to 3.1.0 to 3.1.0 or later does this. I had this problem and took the above steps and every thing worked fine in 10.2. Have not yet tried it in CM 11 myself. Since clearing the netflix data cures the problem it doesn't seem to be the framework or the work around. It is the reason I put the :Problem with Netflix App Ver 3.1.0+?" info in the OP.
Edit: Finally got CM11 running. Had to use option#2 in the OP, Liquid64's NetflixHackPersist.zip available in the OP. It works fine and persists past Rom updates to boot.
Just goes to show that searching is the way to go I kept getting this green screen and a movie of about 1/4 size of the window. This fixed the issue!
Thank you for posting it up and saving my sanity

I'm getting the same thing. Something has changed in the latest Nightlies. Could you provide your ROM version and tablet make and model.
Edit: Problem resolved in 2-10 Nightly and use Liquid64's script.
Be sure to clear the Netflix data in system / apps. You may need to reboot also after clearing the data. I have not tried with the framework module since i don't like the white background.
Sure no problem it's a Nook Color model number bnrv200 and here is the ROM version

Netflix on CM11 on SD
Confirming that the latest Netflix is working on an SD install. Copy NetflixHackPersist.zip to the root directory of the SD and rename it to cm-update.zip. Install the card and boot to Leapinlar's recovery to install to the card. Reboot and good to go.
Must have missed a step somewhere
1. Install CM11 Nightlies on Nook Color
2. Install Netflix
3. Install Xposed Hack > Update > Reboot
4. Install Mod netflix apk module
5. Enable Module within Xposed
6. Reboot
7. Run Netflix > FC
Wiped data on Netflix and reboot, still same issue. I've also tried with Netflix being installed after module is enabled and still same thing. Anyone else running into similar issue or is it just issue with nightlies?

I tried Netflix 2.0.2 on my Nook Color. It has a nasty habit of updating itself to version 3.2.1 -- and the latter is the version where I've experienced shrunken video playback (in the upper-left 1/4 of the screen, while the other 3/4 of the screen is green). Update: after installing Liquid64's NetflixHackPersist.zip, version 3.2.1 behaves great -- no more mostly-green screen!
Does anyone know how to prevent Netflix from updating itself?

Thanks for compiling this info. I'm about to try the Liquid64 method. If it works, it will be the attainment of what my wife considers to be something of a Holy Grail (getting Netflix to work reliably on the Nook Color, which we just haven't been able to do after about a year of various attempts).

Version 1.8.1 wasn't all it's cracked up to be on my Nook Color. Video plays fine for the first 5 seconds (when it's about 95% of full-screen, and partially covered by a progress bar and volume control). Then the progress bar/volume control disappears, and the video goes truly full-screen, and it becomes extremely jittery or jumpy. (Unwatchably so.) Has anyone else experienced that? Update: Liquid64's NetflixHackPersist.zip even improves the behavior of version 1.8.1 -- no more jittery video!

That is why the big red type, if using CM11, must use option #2. With option #2 the updates are not an issue and work fine.

Oh yes, I saw the red text that said #2 was the only way to go for the Nook Color... so I never even considered option #1. Thanks again for the stellar info.
I applied the Liquid64's fix on the HP Touchpad running Milaq's CM11 Previously I had a spinning wheel when trying to load videos. Now with the fix applied I have nice quality Netflix Videos!
Thanks Liquid64!

Optimus One users want good ROMs too!

Feedback - [DEV][ROM][4.4.2] [CM11] KITKAT for LG-P500[WIP][VER-1]
I've been using this KITKAT Rom (from 27. December) for 5 days now and I'm really impressed of it - thx goes to mukulsoni and hephappy.
My feedback here, since I'm not allowed to post on a dev thread:
- Battery backup is acceptable with 2 days for me (Wifi off, Location off, low usage)
- Installed Calendar from PlayStore and calendar syncronization is working
- If you do not want to use Hangeout as you default sms client you can install 8sms from the PlayStore instead (which I did)
- Not Working:
- Wifi Tethering (@mukulsoni please add to not working list)
- voice search does not work for me (maybe someone else knows how to get it working?)
- overall performance (smartassV2, 240-710) is good but not snappy (I'm using a class 10 8GB sdcard).
Conclusion:
@all who are interested in KITKAT on our old P500, give the linked ROM a try - you won't be disappointed.

Did not like the Dec 27 build.
I am running the Omni preview which is more or less cm-11. Favorably impressed.
Offline voice search will not work on our armv6 device. Thanks Google.
Online voice does work. Use voice dictation or swype/dragon to get it into google search. Must tap search, but ...
Actually, something before getting the voice is what armv6 stops. I cannot reproduce how I got there, but I had it actually, init, take my voice and get results!! Once, just once. So ... who knows?

I took this because this is what is being developed right now, where fixes are going.
On-line voice does work. Go to settings->language&input->voice recognition. Since you are likely running with Google Search around, you will see two (count 'em) google options here. Choose the other one.
If you only see one, you need to install the old VoiceSearch.
Feedback - [DEV][ROM][4.4.2] [CM11] KITKAT for LG-P500[WIP][VER-3]
Changes between Ver1 and Ver3 I encountered
- battery consumption seems to be improved a little bit
- stock SMS/MMS app included now (no need for Hangout or 8sms)
- "national roaming" support seems to be gone now (new MVNO Settins are unclear for me - any hints are welcome)
- camera problems
- autofocus does not work anymore - focus does not go green (worked on Ver1)
- choosing HDR option leeds to FC of camera app (to disable HDR you have to clean App Settings)
Trying to record a video freezed the phone (gave me an FC on Ver1) - had to remove the battery.
Experiences from other users are welcome.

I am not allowed to post in dev thread, so please be lenient towards me.
Back to my update problem: I already checked md5 hash and in Addition I repartioned and formatted my sdcard, formatted system and tried to flash via recovery (ver from 16th january) - but same error.
Is it possible that system of this rom is almost full and that some memory blocks of my system storage is dead? It is just an assumption or guess, but if too few memory could cause such an upgrade failure, which apps are secure to remove?
Once again, thx for any hints.

[x86][GApps] FrankenGApps 20140826 4.4.x *UPDATED! Stable! Universal!*

DO NOT FLASH THIS ON A TOUCHWIZ ROM. AOSP BASED ONLY
This is a custom GApps package I created to work with x86 devices (namely, our tab) as the normal GApps packages available are arm-only. (and no, to those who would ask, it's not as simple as downloading PA-GApps and swapping the update binary. The actual files therein are NOT x86 compatible, namely, the libs.)
UPDATE 1: With the release of 4.4. for the P5210, I am pleased to announce that this is now a full, complete, stable GApps package
It contains everything found in the PA-GApps stock zip plus:
-Hackers keyboard
-Root browser
-Xperia home
note that Hacker's keyboard and Xperia home are just there in case google keyboard / google home don't work out of the box. I don't anticipate any problems, but just to be sure. After some feedback / testing i'll remove these if people want. Root browser however is here to stay.
UPDATE 2:
As of the 20140823 build, this is now a UNIVERSAL x86 GApps package, meaning it will work on ANY x86 device running 4.4.x with zero tinkering to the zip. I did this by using a slightly modified pa-gapps updater-script coupled with an x86 update-binary.
UPDATE 3:
The 20140826 build is mostly bug fixes. The updater-script in the 20140823 build was broken. This is now fixed. Google + was broken. This is also fixed.
Google keyboard was broken. This too, is now fixed.
Tested this build myself. All is well.
For those who want a ROM to try this with, head over to @moonbutt74 's thread "odds, ends tests". He posted a successful 4.4.4 build from a few days ago on i think the 4th or 5th post (though it is by NO MEANS dd ready. We're working on it)
DOWNLOAD LINK IS BELOW.
If you want to use this for any reason other than personal use, ask me first, unless you just want to include a link on your ROM thread. If you do want to include a link in your ROM thread, link to this thread, not the download link below.
Download link:FrankenGApps-x86-20140826
old builds:
20140823 build:
FrankenGApps-x86-20140823.zip
The updater script in this build is broken. On top of that, if you fix it yourself, google + and google keyboard are borked.
20140814 build:
FrankenGApps-x86-20140814.zip
This build only works with the tab 3 10.1.
Old legacy hackey build:
FrankenGApps-x86-20140813.zip
there is absolutely no reason to flash the 20140813 build over newer builds. The 20140813 build is an unstable / hackey 4.2 gapps port, I'm just posting it for reference purposes. Naturally this build is unsupported. Please download the new build(s) from OP.

This zip is meant for aosp based ROMs like cm11. (I tested this package on @moonbutt74's wip cm11 build, works like a charm)
Besides, TW Roms have GApps built in

Oh, sorry, but all the other devices have cm 11, it´s like my normal behaviour to flash gapps... shame on me
Just updated to 20140823.
As of now, this GApps package is universally compatible with all x86 devices running 4.4.x. Zero tinkering to the zip necessary.
Just updated to 20140826. This build fixes updater-script, google keyboard, and google +. Read "update 3" in OP for more info.
Nice
Another stone in building our road to CM11. Thanks.
I know many will used this update.
To be honest, I am forced to used the market, but try to stay away from C I A applications. I am sorry did I say C I A. My apologies it is the Alzheimer, I mean Google.

Questions:
1. Does this work with LineageOS 14.1 [Android 7.1.2]
2. Where are the instructions on how to install this?

These gapps are 6 years old and for older versions of android. Go to opengapps.org for android 7.1.2 based gapps.
And also why do you need instructions? Same as all gapps just flash the zip after flashing the rom

I have a tab 3 10.1 WiFi so if anything pops up around these threads I always have a look.
The tablet is still working fine for me without any gapps on it as I've found gapps are extremely heavy on such an old tablet. Instead I opted for a microg installation and it works perfectly (even being able to play games like bullet force or fwd assault) but i mostly use it for reading and cooking and that kind of stuff which it is perfect for.

Owhh, i see. I put this rom on my tab: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/development-10/rom-lineageos-14-1-t3587761
It does lag sometimes, but i removed some of the GApps it came with. I mean, the second i removed playstore some other Google apps stopped working so i had to delete them too. It's a bit better, but i dont play games on it, it's still laggy i should've chosen another ROM but i guess this is fine. Which ones are you using? If you want we can talk in discord, or here if you want, which ever way you fele comfortable. I can share the apps i have and etc, since we have the same tablet, finally i found someone in 2020 having the same device as i have! Ha. I'm still here, so if you reply and i wont answer, i will answer later, i have schedule to follow that's why
Ill wait for your response, anywhere, if you want dm me here, chat in this thread or check my discord, send a friend request and tell me here ur name so I'd accept it. You can also find me in the XDA discord server.
