[GUIDE] [FIX] for T-Mobile MMS Tiny / Blurry Images - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

I noticed that several other members who are using their Streak on T-Mobile were having the same issues that I was having receiving tiny, or blurry, MMS pictures. I searched for several hours with no success on finding a fix for this on the Streak forum, so I decided to try different fixes that other members had suggested form different forums. I finally found the right MMS.apk file that works for out Streak and decided to share it with everyone. I posted this about a week ago in another thread and figured it might be kind of hard for others suffering with this issue to find, so I decided to make a new thread in order to make it easier. This fix should work on any Streak froyo rom. I have tested it on the stock 345 and 351 roms and it works without an issues.
First, make sure your Streak is rooted. You can root your Dell Streak using GingerBreak developed by Chainfire. Here is the forum for Chainfire's GingerBreak.
After that just follow these steps I posted below and you should now have your T-Mobile mms images displaying at the correct size.

I was also having the same problems with T-Mobile MMS images displaying tiny and blurry. I found the attached mms.apk on another forum, not sure which one because I tried about 10 different ones, and this one attached was the only one that worked with no FC's.
First, root the phone and deleted the stock mms.apk (can be found in folder system/app), make sure you save a backup of the stock mms.apk file, just in case you want to restore back to the stock one.
After you delete the stock mms.apk file reboot the phone.
Finally, you just need to installed the attached mms.apk and reboot the phone once again.
I should mention though, this was all done using the stock 345 and 351 roms. This mms.apk gives you the option to select a Custom User-Agent in the Messaging settings. Just select custom from the drop down menu and then type in NexusOne as the phone. And that should correct your tiny/blurry mms pictures on T-Mobile.
Please let me know if this works for you and if you are on another rom please state that as well. Thank you.
P.S.
The apk is inside the zip file attached. Just unzip the file and install the apk inside after you delete the stock one and follow the above directions of course.

This works. Just fine. But why did it make messaging so damn slow?

what model streak do you have? if it's not an AWS it might be because you're stuck on edge speeds

Anyone else have Luck with this?

Will this work on the gingerstreak roms?

Novembre5, I've found if you use the mms.apk out of a matching cyanogenmod rom then this fix works for even the latest streakdroid 2.4 rom, then only thing to remember is to match android versions.
ie: if the rom you currently have is 2.2 then get the apk file out of 2.2 cyanogen rom and apply the same fix you described, likewise for 2.3 get a 2.3 cyanogen rom
note: since I had a t-mobile g2 before, I can only confirm this working with mms.apk from those roms

So which cyan mod is the gingerbread version?

Repairtool stupid question.

In the repairtool tutorial it says to hold the volume up button ( button closest to the headphone jack). The volume up button on my Streak is the button beside it to the right. Is my phone backwards or something? Am I just not reading it properly?
Its the one closest to the headphone jack. Technically backwards until you flash 2.2. Then it'll be correct.

Thanks. I'm a real noob at this. Now that I have been able to complete clockwork recovery I think I'm ready to try to do this. Still reading to try and find out which method I have to use now.
I agree wit you
i posted this in another thread, there really isnt any thinking involved when deciding which method to use i believe. qdl is by far the easiest method, heres the info you will need

i found that THIS thread helped me with what i needed to install on my computer to be able to update
then i used the main tutorial HERE to get to a prerelease version of froyo
from there you can use the "next steps" guide in the above link to get you to either an official release of 2.2 or to dj_steves froyo 1.6.1 which u can find in the development thread

None of the tutorials shows rogers 7921 to anything.i found one post showing that I can go to 309 recovery and then direct to 318 update rom.i have gotten as far as trying to install the update rom from my sd card but the screen just stays blank.i don't know how long I am suppose to leave it to install or what it should look like when it is installing.
rogers 7921 build
Rooted
Clockwork recovery
Adb drivers installed
fastboot recovery complete
318 on sd card
Any advise welcome.

Thanks, I gave it another try. I was having issues with the ADB driver to get the QDL to work. My other steps before got the right driver installed and the QDL worked this time. i'm on 2.2 Baseband 00-US Build 10688. Might try Stevies later but right now I just want to check this out.
you should go beyond the qdl version of froyo because that is pre-release version from what i understand. if you want stock froyo, go to http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg and download and install that. thats the rom that unlocked streaks have gotten from dell

Thanks again. I updated to the official rom for now. I had to to get my Slingplayer app back. I'll have to research that if I'm going to go to Steves version.

Where can i downlopad 2.2 rom ver 322 ??

Have looked everywhere and cant find it ...also is it for US phones ?
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_322_12947_11.pkg
322 is intended for Hong Kong streaks, but they're sold unlocked and unbranded so it should work fine. You'll need the approporate recovery.img for this (which I dont have)
(If you do decide to install 322, could you give me a copy of the pkg.dec file it creates during the install process? I'd be REALLY grateful)
Anything cool comes along with this rom?

Stock (309) recovery works on 322, tried it already moved back to 340, got problems/error with wifi when I used the performance fix. Pretty good build, same features with 318 plus chinese language/keyboard support.

there will be a few people trying to jump to 341 from my thread.... they will need to put on 322 for it to work. Maybe you ask in there, someone will upload.

[Q] Why Clockworkmod doesn't work for some of us?

I'm curious why some of our streak doesn't work with Clockworkmod. Instead that recovery image is has so much useful with other app like Rom Manager.apk
Can anyone tell me why?
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
Even if Clockworkmod did work, ROM Manager has never worked with the Dell Streak. But why don't you use the search engine and look for the answer? I'm fairly sure this question has been asked and answered repeatedly.
I didn't found one on search engine.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I don't think you looked too hard. There is an entire thread on Clockworkmod here that I found using the search engine. In addition I found 11 other threads related to Clockworkmod through that same search.
If none of those answer your question, ask Koush, the guy who wrote Clockworkmod.
Why the hell...
Why the hell should anybody want to use Clockworkmod on a streak?

It works on many other devices
Coupled with ROM manager it simplifies the installation of a custom recovery and a custom ROM
If they came from a phone where Rom Manager and CWM worked they are wrongfully expecting the same experience from every Android phone
The problem isn't that they want to use it - the problem is that they fail research properly when before they move to a new phone.

[Q] DSC(UK Users only) / Sky Go

Has anyone successfully got a DSC rom working with Sky Go on their Streak 5?
I have only had success by returning to a stock ROM and using the app from this link.

I'll have a try from memory,
[Background info]
I was running from latest DSC at the time, then dabled with CM7
[Very rough guide]
Download stock 407 zip
Fastbooted, stock 407 recovery.
Installed stock olleh 407.
(I just followed the streak wiki guides for all of the abovd)
Installed skygo test app ( skygo_test_0.1.5.apk) from link in OP
This worked straight off
I have since re-rooted this rom, again using streak wiki guides, this obviously stopped sky go from working.
Installed Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from market.
Skygo works again for all channels.
I take no credit for this and acknowledge the great work of others for the great wiki guides and the author of the modified skygo apk.
Hope this helps, but bear in mind this is just recalled from my memory and not a definitive guide, any changes you make are at your own risk, just read the wiki's (".... Too busy bricking it")

[Q] Requesting assistance with CWM recovery

Hey guys and gals (although I suspect mostly guys =|)
I have become a noob. A few years ago I was fully into this with flashing and modding scene with the Huawei ideos 8150 phones, done as a service on a local auction website, mostly as many found they were too slow.
After doing this for about 6 months I dropped it as I went into study, my pc has been formatted numerous times since and I can't for the life of me remember what the Android software is called that directly interacts with the linux subsystem on the phone/device.
Why? I now have a T-mobile Galaxy S Vibrant (SGH-T959) and i've been trying to get CyanogenMod 10.0 onto it.
I have rooted the phone thru SuperOneClick via pc (as Z4root would crash).
I have installed OCLF v2
Android system is curently Froyo 2.2 (krnl 2.6.32.9)
I am able to successfully flash the clockwork mod recovery but please see attachment View attachment 1636948
The phone automatically re-installs the default recovery apk's when the recovery menu is launched. Why?
I have taken a look at alternatives like heimdall and odin to flash the ROM but i'm not at all confident because I've never had a ROM fail to flash, so I'm in-experienced at recovery
I'd really appreciate your help on this - I've done research into why this might be happening, but those cases seemed to be unique down to other factors..
I am not familiar with OCLF v2???
Here is a guide with files etc. The issue you are having is because of froyo more specifically android recovery 3(e). The easiest thing to do IMO is Odin back to stock, that takes care of recovery issue, root again then use the update.zip from this guide.

Hey
OneClickLagFix v2 makes an external ext3 directory for swapfiles and prog access or somehting, it's pretty amazing and it sped up I/O via Quadrant by 1600 points making ythe phone so fast it can't complete the boot animation because it's already loaded
Thanks for that guide too, Imma work thru that one shortly
1) You mean the kernel?
2) Recovery doesn't use apks. It's a binary program that runs without the OS. Apks are used within the Android OS, for example being either apps or components like the status bar.
Visit the CyanogenMod wiki for a full update guide for the Vibrant (there's a link in the nightly thread under "from Samsung stock")

Oh wow, a reply form the mod-god himself . I am honored!
I ended up following a poorly written guide to mod my Vibrant from Android 2.3 to JFD using ODIN. Flashed update.zip which seemed to give me a temporary CWM recovery, next reboot it was back on stock. Tried again and the CWM recovery stuck.
Phone is currently running CyangogenMod 10.1 with gapps-jb-20121212-signed as is running amazingly well.
I realize that I've flashed a nightly build of 10.1 and using it as a daily driver was not recommended, but so far it's flawless with the expcetion that I haven't yet tested GPS and I haven't found how to get Google's own navigation software back. I'm a computer tech who often visits customers homes, so fairly important that it works

Most of the CM work comes from the Galaxy S-line work done by pawitp, and the work done by others in the CyanogenMod team and Gerrit.
You can get Maps from the Play Store.
