I just downloaded the update and it's installing. My phone is displaying an exclamation point with an android next to it and has been for some minutes. Is it suppose to take a long time?
I didn't time it but approximately 15 minutes including download. I noticed it rebooted twice.
Well then my phone got screwed because it's still frozen with the exclamation point. =S What to do now!?
pop the battery out of it.. and it should boot fine..
If you did the webtop mod undo it before doing the update...
i had the same problem but i decided to wait and then it went in to recovery mode... in recovery mode it was trying to install update but for me it says the installation aborted.. i dont know wht to do....
I had to defrost all of my frozen apps to get past that and update. The exclamation screen means the install failed because you need to undo any mods or freezes.

As a last resort, you can always SBF flash back to retail 1.2.6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
Then aRoot your phone and follow this thread so you can keep your root after the update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013931
SBF Flash back is most definitly the last thing on my list..so i'm going through /system/app and noticed that DockProvider.apk, PortalApp.apk & DockService.apk are the only ones missing the .odex files..i'm pretty sure this is where the problem is.
-----EDIT-----
FOUND THE SOLUTION!!..i hope..downloading DG's retail dump now..originals including .odex files should be in there. . . . Worked like a charm. Attached the files needed enjoy!

What would save alot of people from running into this situation would be to make a copy of your /system files with ADB before making any changes, that way, you will have your original files to push back onto the phone if anything goes wrong or in this case, need the original files back to do an update and avoid the whole SBF to retail step...
Glad it worked out for you

Phone is rooted and I believe Ive got a lag fix installed.
No idea what I need to do - did a quick looksie through the JI6 thread and I didnt see anything in particular about the update ****ign up anyones phone.
EDIT: The update is called JI6 right? Whatever I got automatically from tmobile is what messed it up.
I'm having the same problem. I'm thinking its because I had the lag fix before this.
If you have the voodoo lagfix then you may have to use odin to fix things. See the instructions on the first post of the thread for Simbionix for that.
With other lagfixes you may just be able to wipe the phone. Can you still access recovery?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I can access recovery. I really didnt want to lose things like contacts saved on my phone even though I dont give a piss about anything else. I dont think the contacts copied into SIM so I may be screwed on that.
If you had your Gmail synced, all the contacts should be on your gmail account, and it will not be wiped

Your contacts should be saved on your google account unless you disabled that.

Sweet. I dont use Google regularly so I didnt even think about the contacts syncing to it.
What is my next step? What should I do? The ODIN thing?
It's a google phone, but u denied to use google service frequently, then you deserve the punishment
Just kidding. I think Odin is the only solution here. And don't forget to use google service after getting your phone back from death =D

Hi,
The same thing happened to me.
I pushed bionix 1.6 to sdcard with adb.
Then flashed it with clockwork.
I am up again.
What a tmobile nighmare.
to disable vodoo lagfix
A quick and easy way to disable voodoo lagfix, is to just create a file or a folder inside of the voodoo folder called "disable lagfix". Worked for me, hopefully this helps.
same thing happened to me. The update was waiting for me when i woke up, so i hit the damn button without thinking about it (i had one eye open!!).. now i have a nice "vibrant" screen.. oi. Simply wiping the phone does nothing, so Im going to try the 2.2 to 2.1 fix.. here goes nuthin..
Same thing here. I had a lag fix (not the voodoo one) and a GPS fix. Not sure which solution to go with. I'll wait for some more replies with simple and easy fixes to appear.
EDIT: I was able to reboot holding power and volume buttons and got it to ClockWork recovery. I guess my next step at this menu would be to "install zip from sdcard" but how would I go about getting the Bionix_6_stock.zip file onto my SD card?
you'll be fine
take out battery and hold power up/down buttonswithe buttons pressed insert battery. you should see Vibrant logo once continue to hold once it goes blank then let go of all exept down button you should be in stock recovery now if you had clockwork recovery press reinstall packages you should now by in clockwork recovery if so flash again or flash some thing else hopefully a nandroid back up... good luck but you problem does not seem that serious keep at you'll be fine

Do you have adb setup? If so, put the bionix ROM in the tools folder of your SDK & type:
adb push *file directory/file name* /sdcard
GL, please update.

Hmmm I think I remember about this other way to boot up where you can push stuff to the phone. How do I do that again? I have only been able to get to the Clockwork Recovery screen and need to get the Bionix zip file from my PC to the Vibrant using ADB which yes I have and it did work a while ago. I just forgot how to boot in that mode. Thanks!
I'm stuck as well. One small difference. I DO NOT have a lag fix installed. I uninstalled the One Click Lag Fix yesterday in preparation for the update.
Well, let me rephrase. The App is installed on the phone but the fix is not applied.
Any thoughts?
Side note. My screen has some how gotten scratched recently and I'm curious if this is a possible way to get a new screen (and phone) from Tmobile. The phone is rooted and I have a GPS fix applied but that's it.
EDIT: I wanted to add, while booting, the Vibrant screen obviously comes up but after a few seconds, the TMobile jingle STARTS to play. It quickly goes quiet and then continues to sit at the Vibrant screen.
Long time lurker, first time posting.
Stuck as well, I am rooted but stock otherwise. Only items installed are:
Vibrant-JI2-GPS.zip
signed-mobileap.vibrant.zip
Any help is appreciated
EDIT:Was able to push Bionix 1.6 through ADB and Flash with Clockwork Recovery. Back Up and Going!

I'm sort of in the same boat. Rooted, but haven't installed any of the lag fixes or gps fixes. I don't have clockwork installed. Is there any way for me to download the OTA to my SD card and try flashing it that way?
This sucks
FYI. I had the same problems as the original OP, getting stuck at the boot screen after the update, due to having lag fix enabled. I finally got the true stock 2.1 firmware installed via ODIN. I've called T-Mobile requesting they push the update again and was told to do the following to send a message to google to have them push the update to my phone. It's been 30 minutes and nothing yet but I'm crossing my fingers. For the guys who haven't received the OTA update yet give this a shot.
Dial *#*#2432546#*#*6
One you complete the sequence all the numbers and characters should disappear leaving your dialer blank. Then you just sit and wait for the message to update your firmware. Hope this works!
This is my 2nd post now. Didnt get any answers on my other one. So this is the deal, i got my phone on factory .26 and used gladroot to get to .52 with my root.
Everything has been find now the new update came out .83. I try to dl and install it from my phone and it reboots on install and the green android guy and an explamation point pop up. I have to restart after that and the phone is back to normal but with no update.
Can i have detailed instructions on how to update and get the root again?
Do i have to flash? and how do i go about doing that? please give me insight. THanks

umm its normal for it to show the android guy with the ! with int he triangle. jsut let it install and get root again with ginger break. let it finish do not interrupt it while it is updating. let it reboot by it self.
There are numerous threads in development that tell you how to flash to the 1.57 sbf file. Then I went to the motorola website and did the update to 1.83 from there.

sbf should fix this, after flash is complete if it still bootloops your probably using a service sbf so will need to enter android recovery and manually clear data etc. to do this hold volume down while turning on device, then keep pressing it till it says android recovery, press volume up, then you have to tap the bottom right corner to show the options when the android logo appears

Follow directions to SBF your phone back to stock Froyo
HERE
After you have followed those directions, THIS IS IMPORTANT PEOPLE, go thru the setup, *228 option 1 and all.
Go ahead and do a factory data reset/wipe your phone from Settings>>Privacy>>Factory Data Reset
After wiping the phone re-root with Gingerbreak and instal Tenfar Lin's Recovery.
Tutorials for rooting and installing recovery as well as additional download links/mirrors can be found in the sticky or here:
Root
Recovery
Place the downloaded GB Pre-Rooted file un the root(top of filesystem/not in any folder) of your externad sd card and rename to "update.zip".
Reboot into recovery thru Tenfar's Bootstrap Recovery app and select "Apply SDCARD : update.zip"
NOTE : It will take a long time, about 15 minutes... EDIT: I dont remember how long it takes with the new prerooted version.... I did this at work yesterday...
Reboot your phone. IT WILL BOOTLOOP!!! EDIT: If it bootloops, pull battery, reboot holding power and volume down, use volume down to scroll to stock/built in recovery, press volume down and up at the same time twice until you get the menu, wipe/factory data reset....
The phone will seem to stall at the eye, but give it time... EDIT: I wasnt watching as I was doing this at work....
Eventually you will be at your home screen and all will be well and rooted in the wonderful world of GingerBread!!
ENJOY!!!

Wow, this first time I tried rsd it called the device 'fastboot' rather than the usual Daytona
I tried again after several battery pulls and got to where it called it Daytona and went ahead and flashed and thank you, it worked.
Even scarier was that I could not boot to use the nandroid backup either! I plugged into the wall outlet without the battery, inserted the battery and still had boot failure 1!!
I thought it was supposed to be possible to sbf back to 2.2? I am stuck in a boot loop now....sigh
great, tried again and notice that my error 7 says error in /sdcard/update.zip <sigh>
back to the same issue I think...
Just so EVERYBODY knows, I got the sdcard error and the bootloop issue and I panicked and SBF-ed again!!! After the second sbf I ran the update one more time and got the installation aborted error and sat at a bootloop for a few minutes... let it work... P3Droid himself said that it will abort, and it will bootloop and take some time. As I stated in the How-To, his instructions aren't very detailed and along with my own issues I decided to write the How-To...
I think I finally got this to work, thanks for the help. I was pondering if it would be better to run over the phone with my car or say I had lost it...

Ok, so last night my phone downloaded the update (guessing Gingerbread). I'm still running 2.2.1 on my Thunderbolt, as I was out of the country for the past few months. I caught the phone before it completed the installation and thought that if I removed the PG05IMG.zip file from the sd card, that would prevent it from being able to install the update. I turned the phone back on and it began to attempt to install the update again. I would like to flash a new ROM to the phone (as I was simply rooted without a custom ROM before) so that I am running 2.3+ but I don't want to have to re-root the phone. I would like to be able to back everything up before I flash a new ROM. How do I prevent the phone from installing the OTA update that was inadvertently downloaded last night , which will unroot my phone??
Please help! Thank you
Not sure if you can stop it at this point and since the phone can still be rooted with the GB update, it may just be easiest to let it go.
Otherwise, if you really want to stop the update, you probably need to boot into Fastboot and find the files that are part of the update. From my Eris days, the OTA update isn't packaged up in the PG05IMG.zip file that you removed. I'm not sure where the files are or what files are the ones you need to delete though...
Someone fee free to correct me, but if you flash the CWM recovery it will prevent the update from happening?
Essentially, I just use the phone for wireless tether, so that's mainly why I root. Doubt that changes much of anything...

That's a common problem as I recall from a few weeks back. I saw threads about it but never read them as I wasn't affected. I don't know if it's a dead-end or easily fixed or complicated to fix...

I stumbled into clockwork recovery earlier... I will see what I can accomplish if I can make it back there!
Side note.. I can get into the phone for a minute or so before it restarts again.

Two thumbs up! So far, so good as for this recommendation. Thank you!!!
Any thoughts on how to prevent VZW from pushing this update from now on?
Also need the best 2.3+ ROM... or is CM9 with 4.0 on the way??

Install a non-stock ROM. Don't worry, you can get Sense-based ones that won't be anything "new".
It appears that VZW will eventually force the update so there's no way that I'm aware of to stop it while running stock (even rooted stock).

Flash a ROM that has the update. There are a few around here that are 2.11.605.5 that you flash in Recovery so that it'll stop bugging you to update. Just pick one that is already rooted. You can do a backup of your currrent rom, flash the 2.11.605.5 then restore your data and your all set....

There are a couple threads on preventing ota updates. A quick search will tell you what file to rename and how to.
