[Q] Firmware problems - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so here is what I did:
I have a X10i with R1FB001 firmware with Android 1.6 and I flashed a X10i_2.0.A.0.504_Generic.ftf 2.1 firmware using X10FlashTool. Now I can’t turn on my phone anymore. First, it vibrated when I pressed the power button, but it remained turned off.
Sometimes when I plug it into my computer, if I let it long enough, it connects in flash menu and the LED turns green. I tried to install other firmware using SEUS but It sais I already have the latest software and I do not have a reinstall button.
I also flashed a X10i_2.1.A.435_GLOBAL-GGL GENERIC 1232-9897 2.1 firmware but I get the same results. Also, despite the fact that I let it charge over the night, when I press the power button, the LED indicates that there is no battery.
Did I bircked my phone? Can someone help me?

will upload it when i'm @ home, i'll pos the link tonight

Use the repair option on SEUS, should guide you though it.

Found it, flashed it, now it works. Thank you a lot. I got a bit scared. The only thing is that I am stuck at 1.6. I have rooted it, installed the files from xRecovery, but when I want to enter the recovery menu, and press back, noting happens.
But this is another problem. Should I start another topic?
Anyway, thank you a lot. You saved me!

well you're back on 1.6 why not just update to 2.1 with seus or pc companion?
I think you did't install xrecovery the right way. Try it again or you could try and drop the xrecovery files in system/bin with root explorer

PC Companion and SEUS say that I have allready the latest software (wich I don't). As for xRecovery, I used the manual method with root explorer from the begining, because I couldn't install xRecovery as an app. I also tried to boot recovery with Quick Boot, but nothing. Any other ideas?

Ok try this: install root explorer, open root explorer and go to /system. Change R/O into R/W(the button in the right top corner) search for a file called build.prop and long press it untill a menu pops up. Select 'open in text editor'. Scroll down to:
ro.semc.version.cust=XXXX-XXXX
ro.product.name=x10_XXXX-XXXX
(the XXXX-XXXX resamble some numbers)
and change both the XXXX-XXXX into 1232-9897 press menu, save & exit.
Reboot the phone and start up pc companion. Choose in pc companion the update option and choose repair and follow the procedure.\
good luck

I tried it, but SEUS and PC Companion still say that I have the latest software. Last night I checked for an update from the phone menu, and I got an update to R2BA026, but still 1.6
Is there a way to flash a custom ROM without recovery menu? Any suggestions? Also, thank you very much for helping me. I had other Android phones and had no problems rooting them and installing custom ROMs, but this one is tricky. Thank you for the help! I really need it.

Strange, i've flashed my x10 several times with this routine. After changing the numers in the build.prop did you restart the phone before you repaired it with pc companion?
I forgot to say this: before you repair the phone with pc companion go to windows explorer and go to this location(make sure you can see hidden files & folders):
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\
And delete the folder called db

PC Companion does not repair the phone. I go through the process, but somewere it gives me a Installation error saying ”unable to install or start phone software update components”.
In Build.prop I don't have ro.semc.version.cust and ro.product.name at all.
I only have ro.semc.version.fs that has the XXXX-XXXX number.
I don't have the db folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\ although I can see hidden files. I deleted the db folder from Update Service, but SEUS still says that there is no software update for my phone. And I don't have a Repair option in SEUS. I will try installing an older version, maybe it will give me the option to Repair
So... other ways to flash a custom ROM? Or some other way to enter the recovery menu?

I'm verry sorry i've made a mistake, you have to change the numbers in the default.prop file not in the build.prop file. Try it, it will work!

Ok, I did it and now PC companion says that I have a new software update. If I check from the phone menu, it also says that a 2.1 update is available and that I should install it from my PC.
When I click the update in PC companion and arrive at the second step, ”Prepare”, it is downloading something and then it says "Preparing your computer for software update" But it doesn't finish the step and it gives me a "Instalation error: unable to install or start phone software update components". Is this because of the phone or it has something to do with my laptop? I reinstalled PC companion, but I get the same thing.
I am begining to lose my fate and I can't stand the 1.6 timescaped system anymore. I want stock Froyo or Gingerbread (or at least official 2.1)

hm okay, we are a step closer did you also try it with SEUS? (dont forget: if you are going to use seus you have to delte the db folder in C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service)
Or can you try it on a different computer?

Tried with SEUS, still says I already have the latest software, and it shows me no repair button (Deleted the db folder, although, when I start SEUS, db comes back as it was before. I deleted it after I started SEUS, but I can't delete 2 files, because they are being used by the program). I am using the version 2.11.1.9 and tried to install a earlier version, but even that installs this one.
Tried from another computer but same results.
Any other tricks? Maybe some that can help me install a custom ROM?

If your an at & t user this maybe of interest to you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012380 or perhaps just download the flashtool (follow a link in my sig) and a global generic 2.1 rom from xda and flash it with flashtool. Or just go nuts and install a custom rom which you can learn all about how to do from my guide when you have 2.1 running. Hopefully this will be of some use to you.
Edit use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885956 it comes pre rooted a.d with xrecovery already installed, use the flashtool to flash it ;-)

Ok, but what about this: "You need rooted 2.1 rom with xRecovery working to install this firmware! If you already flashed the latest firmware with SEUS, please downgrade OR root it using THIS thread." ??
And this: "3. Boot into xRecovery and install update.zip" ? I can't install xRecovery either. Tried also to reboot recovery from flashtool, but does not work. (I have done all the steps with manual instalation of xRecovery files)
I have 1.6, I flashed a 2.0.A.0.504_Generic.ftf before, but after doing so, my phone does not turn on. I will try your method and post the result. Hopefully it works.

No offence meant, but I cannot for the life of me make out what you are trying to say here. Can you possibly try and rephrase it, perhaps taking a little more time on what you want to say?
he is saying that when the phone is turned on, there is picture of the xperia phone with the exclamation mark.
i think you would need to repair the phone with pc companion.

dont think pc companion willl work in this case. tht is b'cos the card has to be mounted fr pc companion to recognize the fone which is not possible in this case.
download the update service from the sony site. follow the instructions. this might help u recover ur fone..

i try to make update it by Update Service
but show me your phone already lasts firmware
plz any body have idea about
this problem
Even if update service states you already have the latest firmware just click the option to re-install.
To the best of my knowledge, this error (i.e. exclamation mark when boot up) occurs only when you try to debrand your X10 with a different firmware that does not match your baseband version.
I've had the same problem when I tried to debrand my X10 from X1a (R1A) to X1a (R1B). Although there shouldn't be any problem, seemingly either the firmware was corrupted or it was giving false info to either PC Companion or SEUS, so neither of those programs are able to detect the right firmware for your phone, and that's why it shows up with no option to repair your phone.
After spending much time searching and reading all the possible forums, I was unfortunate to figure out a way to force SEUS or PC Companion to rebrand or flash my backup firmware (as I already saved the original ones). The only way I found to fix that problem was a paid app which would act as SEUS by forces to flash the chosen firmware.
just google "davinciteam" and pick the first link and follow their instructions.
I'd rather to fix it myself since I had my original files, but I couldn't find a way "yet" and I needed my phone ASAP.
Disable development mode in x10
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
I got the dreaded exclaimation mark of death after trying to do what dad6534 did. Will be interested to know the fix.
@TechGuru_x10 - how do you disable the development mode. Does this fix the exclaimation mark problem?
@dad6534 - did you have to flash back to the original firmware thru Davinciteam? Did you manage to unbrand your phone in the end?
Delete the 13740270 folder in
C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\13740270
and try to update your phone again, only this time use the one with the restore factory settings (Or something like that)
I remembered trying out every possible way to get my phone unbricked(the exclaimation mark sign) and after wasting all my time, the last resort was to go to their service center and ask them to fix it - It's free and why go Davinci team unless you have some spare cash.
I've tried changing the files in the blob_fs to the orignal ones but to no avail. No re-install button, no repair button in both PC companion and SE update service (SEUS). SEUS just told me that my phone has the Latest firmware and the only option was to Exit. PC Companion allows me to repair, but as it is at the 3rd stage where you have held on to the back button and plugged the USB cable in, it just shows me an error in downloading files.

@J3YPS - i've deleted the folder as per your method, ran SEUpdate and i get the same message - "No new software is available for your phone" with no option to repair or restore or reinstall. I'm interested to hear if this worked for anyone else.
@Aztriltus - I have tried using the davinci client to reflash the firmware but it hasnt work. It is looking increasingly likely that I will need to see the service center. BTW what did you tell them when they asked you how you bricked the phone?

Reread the guide carefully, and try again.
hello friends I have read all topics and I have tried everything, when I run the regedit in windows and put "Vid_0fce & Pid_adde" I do not see the DeviceInstance try putting "USB \ VID_0FCE & PID_ADDE" and I do not see anything I have Windows 7 32bit everything I've done with the phone plugged into debug mode but nothing that I get something, and when I run the file if you put nothing opens and when I plug in flash that I close the program
You have to have SEUS installed and PC Companion.. run it through PC companion once. Then do the regiedit thing.
To put your phone into flash mode, turn off the phone completely, then hold the back button and connect the phone through USB to the computer.
(when you do this, make sure PC companion is NOT running)

[Q] Xperia X10a AT&T flash to 2.1

Hi,
I have purchased Xperia X10a from AT&T currently running Android 1.6. I went through many posts in this forum but couldnot figure out what is the exact way to get Android 2.1 on this phone. I know AT&T has not rolled out 2.1 updates for this phone. I would appreciate if anybody could help me in finding an exact method to get Android 2.1 on my phone now.
Thanks in advance!!!

Read completely thru this then do search in Dev.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827065
download this
http://www.multiupload.com/9N5BJ7II13
and extract it
you should have 2 folders, x10 flash and the firmware folder. inside the x10flash folder, you will need to create a folder and name it 2.1. open up the firmware folder, copy all contents from that folder and put it in the 2.1 folder you just created in the x10 flashtool folder.
on your phone, go to settings > applications > developement and make sure usb debugging is enabled.
turn your phone off and unplug the usb cable.
run the x10flashtool bat file on your computer. click flash, there will be a separate pop up. highlight 2.1, but do no click ok yet. on your phone (still off), hold the back button while plugging in the usb port. once you see the green LED on your phone, click ok on the flashtool.
it should start flashing.
once it finishes flashing, it may take a couple minutes for your phone to boot back up. if it doesn't turn back on after about 2 minutes after fininshing flashing, press the power button. it may take a few minutes to fully boot up.
once it boots up, click root on the flash tool and follow the instructions.
after rooting, download this

i would suggest only running the JIT option. unless you want to strip everything out of the firmware (you may loose some options you want).
after you get JIT enabled, go into market and purchase root explorer. excellent app to have. once you buy/install that, open root explorer, go to system/app, click mount as R/W. delete these apk's and only these ones (unless you think you want to use any of them)

"Just add a new folder to the MAIN FOLDER of Flashtool which contains the firmware.
Now press Flash. The Tool will show you all firmwares which are stored in the FlasherFolder."
i dont see anything where i can run an .exe or where i can press flash
all i have in the folder is:
custom(folder)
x10flasher_lib(folder)
adb
adbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
USBFlash.dll
x10flash
x10flasher
in that order, where is the firmware package and how do i know if im missing loader.sin? also which one of those do i put the loader.sin into if i dont have it? im not understanding how to do this and to make matters worse i just rooted and loaded a custom rom on my captivate but im having trouble with the x10.

Yes it is normal. You can think of H as 3.5G which is better than 3G. It is what every U.S. wireless company is falsely advertising as 4G
I was just wondering about why my phone couldnot get this 'H' network aka 4G network when my phone was running android 1.6 and was not flashed???

Does changing Vista/7 to Vista or 7 help, also you are not on latest flash tool.

[Q] New member new phone (Now a big problem as well)

Hi, everyone I just joined this forum. I have X10i with firmware 2.1. While searching the thread i came acrosss terms like root, xrecovery, flashing, MT, generic etc. Can someone help me out what these terms mean. I wanted to upgrade my phone to gingerbread. Previously I am an iphone user So i am total noob to this OS and the phone
Thanks in advance
good get away from iphone
root--same thing as jailbreak
xrecovery-- a badass tool that lets you flash roms onto your phone.
flashing-- umm... it is like installing a modified version of even the legit version on the device
generic-- A product having no brand name or registered trademark
example= for device there is branded or non branded
branded means that a company like ATT or Rogers approves that firmware or OS version. So when you turn your phone on, you will usually see something related to them. like an animation of the att world
generic--- clean install. no company restrictions. just regular
ok links for all that crap above
2.3.3 firmware (does not matter if you download x10a or x10i)
Generic-----
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733
do yourself a favor and read
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733 before and download the program WINDOWS only
Thanks for your help. I am going to upgrade my phone soon so is their any problem in doing so and by the way should i just use the SEUS or flash tool

As far is i remember phone was fully charged when i put it for update now what should i do. The phone doesnt restarts now and when I power up my phone only th egreen led blinks and it vibrates for split second than nothing I waited for it but the phone is not responding what should i do now
HELP NEEDED
to tell you the truth i dont know what SEUS is
i think it is for drivers or something but you should use PC comapanion for drivers
ok
use flashtool in the first link i gave you and download one of the 2.3.3 files
or use a 2.3.3 rom
and flash the sucker on
it should work
Try flashtool if doesn't work let your phone on charge for 1 hour and take it off try again whit seus should be good to go

Ok i will try that one too thanks alot lets see wat happens
ok tried that too nu luck
What should i Do now One thing more i was goignaround the threads looking for solution So in one thread it said that firmware can ber installed through flash tool 0.2.5
I tried that too and amazingly the flashing goes all the way to the end on 0.2.5 in the end i get the msg that flashing complete and remove the phone but when i remove the phone and turn it on it just vibrates and small blip of green flash led than nothing
What could be the problem
1. Download Flashtool from
http://doomlord.sylvester20007.com/x10/x10_gb/FlashTool_0.2.9.1-GBready_root_xRec.exe
2. Download the generic 2.3 ROM of your choice
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11038646&postcount=1
Personally I would get the Global version unless you can find your country specific one.
Global version download - http://www.multiupload.com/JEXUAHAZTL
3.
a) connect your phone to your PC, make sure it installs the drivers (if your Sony software is working it is fine)
b) Extract Flashtool into a directory you know
c) Extract the firmware file you downloaded. And move the ftf file into the "firmware" directory of Flashtool
d) Make sure your phone is not connected to the PC and is off.
e) Run Flashtool, click on Flash and select the firmware you have just downloaded.
f) It will give you the same instruction - holding the "back" key, (phone still off) connect it to the PC. If you did this correctly, the light will be green and it will start flashing your phone.
g) After it is completed, reboot your phone once or twice and check that it is working.
4. Installing xrecovery and rooting refer to instructions (you already have all the files from when you download in step 1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808
Let me know when you have completed the steps above.
Thanks for advice downloading it now and going to try and will let now about the results

I have flash tool 0.2.5,0.2.8,0.2.9,0.3.0
Have tried them all only 0.2.5 goes all the way to the end but when i turn on the phone it only virbrates and green led flashes for sec than nothing
When you reboot is there anything showing on the screen? Sony logo...anything? If yes, wait it can take a long time for a new rom to install. If no, I think you need to revert back to the 2.1 rom, root and install busybox, superuser, and xrecovery. once thats done you can backup your rom and data so you don't get stuck updating or if you have trouble with a custom rom etc. Also I think your battery stats should be wiped using xrecovery, it sounds like SEUS checked this and the file said your battery was too low to continue the update. Here is a good place to start.

Try taking the battery out and then try flashing again. Which ftf file are you flashing or selecting in the flash program. You need to use at least a 0.2.9 version of the flashtool.... if you use 0.2.5 start with the 2.1.54 ROM first.

[Q] X10 mini doen't start anymore and SEUS unable to restore stock kernel

Hello,
i tried to put minicm9 on my x10 mini. It has work but sim card is not detected.
After that, i made a big fault
I used s1tools to relock my phone (by restore button) in order to see if my sim card becomes detected
Now, my phone doesn't start (led blinks one time and vibrator and no more)
I tried to use SEUS to restore stock kernel but it says i have the latest release and no button to force
With flashtool, i can't flash another kernel because my bootloader is now relocked and i have nothing in pluging menu
Any ideas of what i can do to have my phone starting ?
Thanks and regards

Hello,
i have already try this but SEUS indicates that i have the latest version of software and no other possibilities offer by SEUS except "exit" button
i got a.ftf file of generic 2.1-update1 that you can flash with flashtool if you want
pm me
Disconnect your phone from your computer
in PC Companion, go into "support zone" choose update
It will say: phone not found and give you the repair option

Thanks, i tried also this manip with SE PC companion but as SE Update Service, it says that i have the latest version and no way to repair
If you disconnect your phone from your computer, it can't say you have the latest verstion because it cannot find it and it will give you the repair option.
Once you click that, it won't check for phonetype or software anymore, it will let you select a model, download the firmware and flash it.

Yes, you are right for SE PC companion
After select my model, at step 3 (update) when i plug my phone, a window opens with "no software available for your phone, try later" (in french with my se pc companion but i translate, well i hope)
very well translated indeed no problems there
just strange that it can't find a firmware for your selected device, does PC Companion connect to the internet? top right corner of main screen (PC Companion settings), proxy settings, test...
If that's ok, then i'm lost too, sorry

yes, pc companion connected to internet
perhaps, if i could unlock again my phone with flashtool in order to flash a kernel...
but, plugin menu is empty.
No idea to force something to have plugin menu available to unlock ?
Nevertheless, thanks for your help
I have no idea, the unlock bootloader option is only available if you're on 2.1 (eclair) 2.2 (froyo) or 2.3 (gingerbread), and your phone has ICS at the moment, so that won't work i guess... i am really lost about your problem, I would think maybe try the repair a few more times, maybe SE had a server problem or something, but other than that, i don't know...
I wish you luck
one last thing...
maybe repair your phone with your sim-card removed may do the trick...

I've read somewhere that other people with french firmwares have trouble updating via PC Companion and things, maybe you could flash the nordic or uk firmware that is lying around on the forums here in de dev section and then try a repair after that,
You can flash firmwares with a locked bootloader, just not kernels. (sorry, i hate to see such a lovely little phone go to waste)
You can still select french as your language if it works...
http://www.multiupload.com/GM4VW1LNVV and choose the rapidshare link, the other ones are down...

Thanks a lot,
but could you help me again ? in your zip file, which file should i flash ?
Is it nordic or uk firmware that you speak or another thing ?
Regards
It is Nordic, but i don't think that will be a big problem
You unpack the .rar file and put the .ftf file into the firmwares folder found in the flashtool-installation folder
Start Flashtool - Press the flashbutton, choose the .ftf you just put in there and connect your phone in flashmode.
If the flash is succesful, turn off your phone and try a repair with PC Companion.
Fingers crossed...

But there are not .ftf files in .rar file (amss.sin, amss_fs.sin, cache.sin, fota0.sin, fota1.sin, kernel.sin, loader.sin, system.sin, userdata.sin).
Should i rename a file with .ftf extension and in this case which ?
Thanks
Sorry, i found the possility to create firmware in flashtool with these files
After flashing, i success to update with pc companion (not with seus)
But i am again face to my original problem, the phone doesn't see the sim card (i tried with others sim card from different operators)
I don't know if you have an idea about this issue, but nevertheless, thanks a lot for your help
Try the steps in here, It may work..
Basically,
(I guess your bootloader is still locked, otherwise, lock it again)
do a repair without your simcard in your phone
do a full boot without the simcard
once it's booted, don't set up anything, but turn your phone off again
put your sim in, and reboot
