[Q] Battery Percents - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to get the stock battery percent icons into adrynalyne's basic debloat
I've swapped icons before, but I can't seem to get any battery icon showing with this rom.
1. I went into framework-res.apk ->res-> drawable ->
I changed stat_sys_battery.xml with that xml file from other roms that had 100 icons (das bamf 1.2 and also tried from the Perfect Storm rom)
2. I added to the drawable-hdpi folder the 100 battery stat icons from the Perfect Storm rom (I liked chingy's icons)
I have no battery icons at all in the notification bar now, just a space where an icon should be. What am I doing wrong? Any help in the right direction would be appreciated thanks
EDIT: This has been fixed, see my post below http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12792718#post12792718

+1 on this.
I have themed many ROM's and edited countless XML files and could not get this to work. I went as far as decompiling the framework and typing the extra lines of code in the battery.xml but still could not get it to work.

if you are rooted ( i am assuming so)
pull the framework-res.apk
go to this site------- http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
create whatever battery icon you want in the kitchen
upload your apk file
wait for the kitchen to cook your file (takes about 10 mins)
download and flash in CWR

PM me, I have the smooth sense icons images that i'm trying to port over to any ROM but can't seem to get it right

Since I got my tbolt back, I've decided to stick with the stock rooted odexed software.
I tried the same process as in my original post.. I'm trying to change the battery icons (not changing the charging icons though) and no matter what I do theres just a blank space where the battery icon should be. I tried using a different set of png's and same problem. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I tried with only a battery mod (stock odexed) and the phone force closed like crazy, when I changed the xml and png's myself I had no issues other than the battery icon not showing

any luck i already have the icons i want to use just need to know how to change form increments of 1 to increments of 10

I believe signal23's framework has the smooth battery icons. Also are you decompiling/compiling the framework correctly when you are getting no battery showing? For increments of 10 you just need to edit the stat_sys_battery.xml so it only reports in increments of 10.

i havent been decompiling/compiling, i just opened the apk with winzip and dragged and dropped the files overwriting the old ones. i use a stat_sys_battery.xml to report increments of 1 since im using 100 icons, put in the 100 icons in the drawable-hdpi folder, put it through an update zip, and the phone worked the same, just no battery icon at all showed up

Frameworks can be very sensitive. Double check that you are replacing with icons of the same size. Also, double check all file names (I once had one file with capital extension mess it all) and double check the xml. Whenever I had a disappearing battery indicator it was due to something small like that. One way to debug this is to start with the original and only replace a few of the icons (make sure it's around your charge level). Keep adding modifications until you find the offending file.

FIXED
I found a fix. When you change from the stock number of icons to 100 icons, the stat_sys_battery.xml is assigned a new resource_id in the file resources.arsc see: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/12834-compiling-xmls-system-level-mods-2.html
The first time I tried UOT kitchen I got all kinds of force closes, so this time I unchecked the Patch9 autofix (not sure if that made any difference) and I used the stock icons instead of custom ones. This finally worked.
After I got this to work, I ported the battery icon's from chingy51o's Perfect Storm rom (the colors are closer to stock than UOT Kitchen's icons)
Attached is an update.zip to put chingy's battery icons into a stock rooted Thunderbolt, thanks to chingy51o and UOT Kitchen. Please make a full backup of your system before applying this, I am not responsible if this bricks your device

I installed this and am loving it but upon boot I'm getting an amazing amount of Force Closes.
Including, but not limited to:
Gmail
Google Search
HTC DM
Internet
Also tried applying a wallpaper and got "Warning: Phone Storage is Full"

I just tried doing it myself using http://uot.dakra.lt/ and after booting I kept getting the same force closes and errors :/
Any help?

or soemoen can tell me which files i need.
also will i need to deodex the whole rom? i didn't need to on my stratosphere.
I had a Samsung with gb before and it was clear which 3 files but with sense htc its less clear

On the bottom of the file upload page, under NOTE 1, UOT says which files to upload for ICS Sense. You'll upload the Systemui.apk, the framework-res.apk. and the com.htc.resources.apk. Also, UOT says that it has support for odex roms, but traditionally you would use a de-odexed rom. There is a rooted de-oedexed .605 stock rom in the android development section.

[Q] Question for DNA themers

Hi guys,
I've been doing quite a bit of research and also quite a bit of trial and (all) error. I am currently trying to replace the battery icons in my current SystemUI.apk with battery icons from another SystemUI.apk (both DNA, of course). From what I read, it looks like I need to decompile the SystemUI.apk, but it appears that apktools currently does not work with the DNA. I have also tried just extracting the apk files using winrar, and then just copying the files over, but when I do that I the stat bar disappears and everything is black. I'm curious how you guys are managing to make basic mods like battery icons and transparent stat bar on the home screen when using Nova. I've read that the transparency needs to be done by editing a couple xml files, but the one in res/values is only available when you decompile.
As always, any tips or guidance would be warmly welcomed and greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
Use 7 zip to drop the new images into the zipped system UI then it will ask you to update archive and say yes. Then flash system ui.
That's the short version.
Do I actually need to flash, or can I just adb push while mounted in recovery?
Thanks,

You can do that as well, my main point was to use 7-zip, for image replacing I personally use zipthemer so I can use my theme on any rom, Each time I install a new rom i just need to run zipthemer on my phone and flash the zip it makes, and walah, themed to my liking.

UOT kitchen works on stock

For those interested, I managed to get UOT kitchen to create a new set of status bar icons for my rooted stock (Vodafone) rom on my HOX+.
I am unsure whether any of the other UOT images will work, but for the status bar, I have changed the default images to the Hoolm circle battery icon, the wifi icon and signal icon all changed. Looks very nice compared to the boring HTC icons.
I just kept all the settings as default in the kitchen and uploaded the: framework-res.apk, systemui.apk and com.htc.resources.apk
The cooked zip won't flash in twrp (it may in cwm), I just unpacked the zip and pushed the framework files manually. Rebooted and it worked.
I knew UOT had updated the kitchen for ICS and JB but was not sure if it was ready for Sense 4.
http://uot.dakra.lt/
Apologies if this was already posted, just thought some might be interested as many would enjoy customizing the stock status bar. Advisable to make a rom backup first before playing around with the framework files.

Thanks for this information, I've been waiting for jellybean support for various devices that I have owned but eventually gave up looking at the kitchen as nothing appeared to be happening. I have cooked a battery mod uot zip at the kitchen which will not flash through clockwork recovery.
Can I just clarify that you got this to work on an ODEXED stock rom?? Can you also clarify which files that you pushed with your file explorer as I uploaded all three files that you mentioned to the kitchen but my zip only contained framework-res.apk and systemUI.apk??
I am a bit wary to do it this way as I can't create a restore zip with the original files as it won't flash.

Battery Mod Help

Afternoon all,
I was wondering if any one could alter the Battery Icon in this zip file i have attached, so that it is the normal Stock battery icon, this one has the percentage in the battery itself, also it has the No clock in the status bar which i would like to keep, all i want changed is the battery itself.
This is NOT my work it is Michxda's work which is the taken form the Enhanced battery % mods which can be found HERE.
if someone could do that for me I would be most grateful.
Thanks very much.

Schumi, I've attached the modded SystemUI.apk use an archiving tool such as 7zip or Win RAR to paste the new apk into the zipped folder (+Enhanced_battery___mod_de-odexed_nc.zip/ system) then flash as normal.

wifi etc. icons gone [black field instead] after changing battery icon in systemui

Hi,
I'd appreciate your input on the following problem.
In custom recovery, I have installed the aroma file manager, copied the /system/app/systemui.apk to the sd-card.
On the computer, I have opened the systemui.apk with WinZip. I also opened a zip file that contained the battery pngs of my choice - I highlighted them and dragged them into the WinZip systemui.apk window (replacing the original pngs).
I copied the systemui.apk back to the sd-card, rebooted the phone into the recovery, started aroma file manager again, replaced the original /system/app/systemui.apk with my modified systemui.apk and checked the permissions.
I rebooted the phone. My new battery icon is there.
BUT where the wifi icon and the sd-card icon etc. used to be, there is a black field now - i.e. the icons are no longer shown, only black placeholders.
Any idea why?
What can I do?
Thanks
mary-lou
Have you changed the status bar bg by mistake? Also make sure that the battery icons are of same dpi as stock. Have you played with any other thing? (Transparency?)

Hi, I haven't change the status bar bg and I haven't played with transparency.
BUT I tried again.
This time I used another set of icons (the icons do have the same size as in my first attempt, though), again I copied them from a zip into the systemui.apk -- BUT this time I used 7-zip (instead of WinZip). And it worked. No problems after copying the systemui.apk back to /system/app and setting the permissions.
I don't know if there was a problem with the first icon set or if WinZip was the problem.
Summing up, it is possible to replace pngs in the systemui.apk in an odexed system by just dragging&dropping the modified apks into the systemui.apk (with the help of 7-Zip).
Yeah, using 7-zip is mandatory while creating archives for android. It's the same with flashable zips. I found out that you even have to use the windows version, it isn't enough to use 7-zip in Linux.
