[Q] Firefox 4 - Nook Color Themes and Apps

Anyone succeeded in installing firefox 4? Currently Android Market doesn't think FF is compatible with NC.

go to http://www.opera.com/mobile/ and download it from browser or pc.

That's actually Opera which is an entirely different browser.
The correct link is: firefox.com/m

There is no direct apk download there, only a link to the market (I mean for ff4).

I know its not exactly what you asked for, but may i make another recommendation for you trying Opera?
I am a die hard user of FF4 at home and work, so I wasn't too sure when i gave O11 a try; espeically since i had been using the previous FF mobile betas.
Let me say, FF is blown away by opera on our tabs. The GPU accelerated rendering is awesome (no firefox cherkerboarding, no studdering), and O11 looks more like desktop firefox than FF mobile.
That said, if you still are hell bent on trying it, you can find the release here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla....ndroid-r7/en-US/fennec-4.0.en-US.eabi-arm.apk

I like ff4 on my nook. Haven't tried Opera, though I have it downloaded
Try doing the Market Fix trick here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11626645&postcount=425
and it should download via the market.
Edit: Just tried Opera on Nookie froyo and it makes a fine mirror... gives me a nice black screen and nothing else after the opera mobile logo disappears. Menu gets no response. Not Impressed

I got FF4 and Opera11 both from the market no problem. I am on an auto-nootered 1.1. I wish I could combine both of those browsers into a single browser.
Opera- smoother scrolling and zooming and quicker page loads
firefox - fantastic interface for tabs and controls
Oh yea about opera, the navigation bar is on top for the nook (with no option to hide it) and on bottom for my phone. Is there anyway to force it to the bottom on the nook? Is there an option in the :config?

Thanks for tips! I like the look and feel of opera but when it failed rendering apple.com (no, I'm not a traitor ), I was a kind of dissapointed.

I am on my nook right now, and with opera on a desktop user agent, it renders just fine. What issue were you having?

I can't follow any link (on the top) from Opera on this site

This coming from the guy using an Android device?
Due to the size of FF4, I've had to upload it to my server. The forums won't let me attach anything over 8MB, and it's 10MB after zipped. Here's the link.

Running Dromaeo test right now - want to compare Ff4 vs Opera.
In terms of user experience and smoothness of scrolling Opera 10 times better!
Thanks for the link.

I like the interface of Firefox better (especially for tabs), but with Opera's GPU acceleration its mobile browser is one of a kind. It is probably the best tablet browser on the planet....

Ok, apparently I had installed Opera Mobile(?) no idea. uninstalled and tried Opera Mini and.. wow, very smooth. Just tested a bit, need to test flash, but very impressive I like some interface things on FF better but this is very nice

Tried FF4, too long to load, not really any faster (IMHO) than Miren

FF is nice, but that backwards typing bug drives me nuts. (types right to left, weird)

After all I decided that Opera is the best for me. Nice looking, fast, opens in a second.

Does anyone have an Apk for ff 6?

FIREFOX for Wm6 is coming!!

I'm quite excited about this:
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/142083/mobile-firefox-to-debut-on-windows-mobile.html
Perhaps we'll get that long-awaited full browser functionality on Windows Mobile.
If this is the Firefox seen on the latest N800 Tabet update then we can expect FULL, smooth flash support and snappy load times.
If so this could be a worry for Opera Mobile, who are seemingly SH*T at integrating effective flash support into their browsers - they couldn't even manage it with the Wii.
I can only cross my fingers......

I believe Minimo is a separate project. The new firefox development is for wm6 and linux-based devices with a bit more RAM and ROM at their disposal as far as i know.
Nokia ousted Opera in favour of firefox for the browser in OS2008 (which is superb). If the same browser can be put on my WM6 device i'll be VERY happy.
It will be great... I use the web alot and thats one reason i use my iphone more. if we can get firefox ... goodbye iphone...

I see what you are saying, but I also think it is foolish to think they are going to completely ignore the mobile browser they already have in their stable and come up with a new firefox mobile !!!
We will wait and see, I think you will find the the up and coming firefox will have more in common with minimo than you give credit for. When using minimo I noticed it was quick opening up tabs (quicker than opera) and the loading symbol for a loading tab was the same as used on firefox on my desktop! the point is there are already similarities I expect firefox to be based on some if not a lot of the minimo code.

in the options uncheck the grab option.
Whilst we're talking about Opera, there's a little thing I've been pondering.
Why do developers of Mobile browsers find it so difficult to integrate flash support?
Surely even if there isn't a dedicated flash player for this platform there's some way that the browser could detect if a flash format needs processing and converting. As far as I know the Firefox browser built into the EEE pc's xandros OS does this.
At no point do any drivers need installing. Even Stage6 files are converted and streamed without needing to install the web player.

I'm very disapointed... Check out how it formats the pages, looks like crap compared to 9.5... I've tried many sites and they all look so much better in 9.5. I was really hoping they would have fixed this since the 9.7 beta...

Doesn´t work on my Touch HD. It starts, but then it stopps saying on the top bar Opera Mobile 10 beta and i can´t press any button and no page is coming up. Thought it would make some autoconfiguration for the first time, but even after 5 minutes nothing happens. Ok it´s stil beta, but shouldn´t it at least start?
It's work fine on my hd!
At the first time you must start it from start menu, so it complete the setup process with the aknowledgement, after you can use from internet tab!
Someone use landscape mode, i didn't find it...

Sorry for my bad english...
Damn no flash support still up till now
Oh I thought they have flash support this time. but otherwise they have done a good job.
Am I the only one who thinks the official 9.7 beta was better???
It used the accelerometer on my Diamond and had really cool animation effects when tilting the device into landscape and other stuff....
Is there a way to enable accelerometer in Opera 10???
Also is this version not opengl accelerated like 9.7 was, besides the new "improved" UI I think this version is a step back from 9.7.
I don`t know some peoples already say about the new Opera 10 its nothing more than all other versions but i don`t think so.
1st when i install on my HD this beta i saw its much more faster than the 9.7 or 9.5 Also the view of the pages is much more better and clear and all the menus of the opera are just fast and awsome.
On the same time i just test for how long will load a page.
For example i choice a random page and i use Opera 9.5 then use Opera 10 for the same page in the same internet connection and i can say that this 10 BETA is minimum 3 times faster than the old Opera.
The Only bad things is that still not have a full Flash support but soon this will be fixed and then we will have a awsome fast beauty Browser for our devices
Maybe depends from ROM`s or....
If this matter im with NRG ROM from the signature.
I really don't like the single touch zooming, how annoying is that everytime I click a link it zoomes in and I have to zoom out again...
don't know if this is a good development, it is defenately quick, but it lacks in quite a few things.

Compare it to Opera mobile 9.5 and you will see that 9.5 shows the pages exactly as they look on the PC in overview mode... Opera 10 makes the sites look bad since it wraps the columns in overview before you've zoomed in. I can't stand using this browser until they've fixed this issue.
The turbo mode on 10 is a lot slower than the turbo mode in opera mini 5 beta. Very disappointed, as most times I don't care for perfect rendering...just want to be able to read what I want to read quickly.
I'll continue to use mini as my main browser, as it also uses a lot less memory. 10 is nice if I need to do some "real" web browsing though.
Is anyone else missing Opera link, it was great for Mini, but still not on 9.5-9.7-10, saw somewhere that it was not included on 9.7 as it was a beta, but if all they release is beta's then its never gonna happen (
...
Any way, how to set Zoom more then 200%? Google reader text quite small on my Diamond.
Hi, Where does opera 10 install itself. I would really like to try it out but i do not want it to touch any of my opera 9.5 files in any way.

Generally Netfront isn't bad. The problem is it suffers from some strange out of memory error on certain pages. It's strange because in earlier versions (back in 2007/2008) this wasn't the case. But I think its worth a try nonetheless.
anyone know of any more? this can't be it
Hm I think that's it. I mean if you count them you will realise that you have the choice out of 6 different browsers. That's not really bad for a platform like Windows Mobile which isn't supported anymore.

Microsoft won't ever go back
Windows mobile was very open as far as what you could run on it, making it difficult to lock it down like android, wp7 or ios.
These companies are interested in making people have to buy all software to run on the device from their store
That's why I wont get WP7. I mean I hate google but in the end android is the only os for smartphones that is at least open to some extent.
Q: New Problem with Opera 9.7 Accessing m.facebook.com
Opera 9.7 was included in the ROM that I'm currently using and has worked fine with everything, except for the mobile Facebook site (m.facebook.com) within the last 2 weeks (FB must be changing things again ).
It will not allow me to access anything except to update my own status. Clicking on any link to view comments, photos, etc. (whether they're friends or my own) results in an error message saying that the page is not accessible at the moment or I do not have the proper permissions. Is there another version of Opera that will work?
Internet Explorer works OK, but the font in the already small comments box is so freakin' tiny, it makes having to use it a total PITA. I've been using FIM v2.8 for mostly everything, but viewing photos on it is difficult (since the photo size is un-scalable) and I can't copy/paste with FIM.
Any help with a browser replacement (Opera upgrade?), that will make the mobile FB site usable for me again, will be greatly appreciated! [I despise the official FB application and avoid it like the plague. There's no chance they will ever improve it for Windows Mobile, anyway.]
EDIT: Downloaded Opera Mini 5 and Opera 10; decided to try Mini 1st... What an improvement! The FB mobile site now works as it should.
Haven't tried 10 yet, but didn't I read something somewhere that people found that the zoom bar no longer works in that version? I may give it a go at some point, but for right now, I'm happy with Mini 5!
Thanks everyone!
Debbie
Why don't you try the final release of Opera 10? Opera 9.7 is really outdated. OK, 10 is old too but it's as recent as it gets on WM.
opera mini
opera mini, the fastest & best websurfing software.

[Q] Browser

How do you feel about Lumias IE browser? Do you find it good enough or do you use something else?
Mobile IE is fantastic to be honest.
Yep it works very well for me. I developed a mobile site recently and it looks loads better on the Lumia than iOS/Android for the simple reason that the address bar is at the bottom of the screen, not the top. That was a really smart move by MS
I find that IE works very well. There are other browsers on the market but they are all really the same since they are based on the IE browser only other features/functions added. I've found the standard browser to be smoothest of them all though in operation.
IE Mobile is great!
IE is mostly great.
facebook touch doesn't work
facebook full site (facebook.com/home.php) doesn't work with timeline loading, so I only have the lite mobile facebook - I manage a lot of pages.
Are there any WebKit or Gecko based browsers?
I've tried Chromium beta and it doesn't load the timeline either.

[Q] Best android browser for CodeAcademy?

Hi,
I like working on the website Codeacademy.com, and would love to do so on my android tablet (kindle HD), or even my phone (razr HD). However, every browser I've tried has had a terrible time with this website: browsers love to zoom in too closely when I start typing, they have trouble scolling in a text window within the main window, etc. (just try it, you'll see what I mean).
Does anyone have any suggestions for a browser that would fare better? Or perhaps dolphin has an add-on that would mitigate the problems? I have trouble believing that I'm the only one who likes to use this popular website on an android device.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: The kindle is restricted in its browsers by default, but I haven't had any trouble downloading apks and sideloading, so that's not a limitation to worry about.
Me too
I am looking for it too. It would be awesome if codecademy made an android app for its exercises

Agreed-- though I feel like they shouldn't have to! This website isn't doing anything particularly advanced--it's just a text box to type in--and I feel like one of the myriad android browsers should be able to handle it. Especially since each one has a different unique problem with the website.

Okay, looks like Maxthon browser works tolerably well. Good browser overall, actually.
Jwdink,
Good to know Maxthon worked for you. I tested many, including Maxthon, and I always get the same problem.
When I click on the box to type, and try to move it up or down, everything goes white and I have to find the box again...
I tested with chrome, opera, firefox, dolphin, dolphin beta, and others less known browsers, and always the same problem happens
Now I'm gonna test with firefox beta..
I emailed codecademy some days ago concerning this matter but got no answer
Did you notice the site doesn't have a mobile version? Maybe if they can create one, it could fix the problem

Maxthon didn't fare to well for this task on my rooted Kindle Fire running Gingerbread .......I sometimes have success with the latest release of Firefox (not the nightly edition) but many times will have to refresh the page to get the coding input box to respond "halfway" normal.
Even on my Windows 7 laptop the site has issues and I've tried IE9 and the latest Chrome. Maybe I'll try Firefox on the laptop today. On the tablet I find myself reading the tutorial from the website on whatever browser I'm using but will not try to implement the code there. I'll just open up my good old text editor and code there using what I learned on the site and then run the code on "x" interpreter (in my case the Python) and it's much easier to do it that way.
When I have the lesson running correctly I will return to the website and "attempt" to complete it on there either possibly with Android Firefox or on the PC so it will keep track of my progress. Otherwise I would get WAY to frustrated trying to get every little step to run in the browser's input box!
And yes, a dedicated app for this website would be ideal

I don't think its very effective to work on codeacademy from your tablet especially if you aren't using a real keyboard. Codecademy has problems with browsers in osx and windows and I can't imagine how it would work on a tablet which browsers that do much less. Codecademy gives me issues everytime I use it, some courses are sometimes impossible to complete unless codecademy themselves fixes them. Python last summer was uncompletable due to weird errors which tooks weeks to fix.
Also, something you should be doing is after you complete courses, go make something with your newly gained knowledge. I can go through every single course in there and might not have a full understanding without actually making something, plus, you have to get used to dealing with the unexpected because everytime you code, theres going to be some problem. You can't code much things comfortably in Android either, at least I haven't been able to.
Try using ucbrowser.
I've tried Firefox, dolphin, boat and maxthon but for me uc browser works best. I'm talking about web browsing in general, uc browser is my pick for mobile web browsing. I've never visited code academy on ucbrowser though. Give it a shot

Foxfire & disable autocorrect/autocomplete
To use codecademy on my rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (n8013) tablet I used Foxfire (stable or beta) browser and I disabled the keyboard's autocorrection/autofill/autocapitalization functionalities.
Tested but couldn't use stock browser, Chrome, Dolphin and Opera. Tested but couldn't use Swype keyboard and Google downloadable keyboard. Something weird happens connected to the shift key.
Should say my Samsung's running stock (Cyanagenmod) Android 4.2.2, no bloatware. Don't know if that matters or not.

Hey,
Im trying to use codecademy and khanacademy.org but im using a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet (stock rom). Ive tried UC browser as well as many others (chrome, naked, firefox, dolphin, maxthon, boat, maybe more) with no luck. Code isnt selectable or pastable, and sometimes i cant even delete.
I dont have access to a computer at the moment and would really like to take advantage of the interactive tutorials on those sites. I even bought a mouse thinking it would make text selection easy but i now realise android mouse support is lame and just emulates a finger.
If anyone has any solution for this, please let me know.

Hello jwdink,
Thank you for asking this question almost two years ago. Like you, I recently stumbled across the delimma of learning to code at codeacademy.com with my nextbook tablet device.
The solution that works perfectly for me is to request the desktop version of the web browser.
A quick review of the steps involved (Recent Google chrome at time of writing):

Hello jwdink,
Thank you for asking this question almost two years ago. Like you, I recently stumbled across the delimma of learning to code at codeacademy.com with my nextbook tablet device.
The solution that works perfectly for me is to request the desktop version of the web browser.
A quick review of the steps involved (Recent Google chrome at time of writing):
Click the menu button
Select "Request desktop site"
The page will reload automatically to a closer version of codeacademy that you are familiar with on the desktop site.

Thanks so much, currently on my Samsung Tab S 10.5 with a logitech keyboard, and works extremely well with codecademy now
