Me and my wife have the Eris. no phones were rooted.
My phone was manually updated to 2.1 and my wifes was OTA.
before i go to bed i turn off the data signal and clear out all programs running with task killer. it was 60% charged, come to wake up in the morning and find that the battery fully discharged and had to plug it in the mains to switch it on. a few days after my wifes phone is doing the same.
would like some ideas from you guys on some of the reasons this may be happening. would love to provide you with more information... just tell me what and where i can get it from.
Thanks.
mee too
the same thing happens to me but in a different manner. This started about 3 days ago as far as i could notice. While the phone is in my pocket it would randomly get really hot and most of my battery would be drained. This usually happens in the middle of the day. I have to shut the phone down and restart it and then I would not notice the problem for rest of the day. I have 2.1 V3 leak installed on my phone. any ideas as why this is happening?

Wow...that is strangely similar to what is happening to mine. It just started a few days ago as well.
I got up this morning with a fully charged phone (it takes all of 10 hours to completely charge, if it does fully at all) and after looking at facebook and reading a few news articles for about 2 hours, my phone was at approx. 60%.
This happens every day now and I end up chasing a charge all days between the ac adapter and my car charger. I'm getting sick of carrying my charger with me all day but I have to.
Mine is also getting hot. I first noticed this Tuesday as I was using Tapatalk while the phone was charging via wall charger and it got hot and just died. I had to wait about 30 minutes for it to cool and then it would boot up.
Like you said, this just started recently and I am also running Leak v3. I have removed all widgets and taken off everything I don't absolutely need off of the phone (apps, that is) but no change. Just as an example, I have had mine connected via usb to my work pc since 5 pm (it's now 1:20 am) and it is still not completely charged.
It gets to about 85-90% but will not close out to a full charge for hours. I just ordered a new battery today to see if I have just "overcharged" mine, so if that works I'm gonna get a premium (1750 mah) battery maybe and try that.
Very strange. I'd say within the past few days, my phone has had considerably worse battery life as well. Usually I'm pretty good about killing apps and there was one day where I forgot for most of the day.
I recharged it to full last night and have been killing apps and keeping an eye on it all day and it is still giving me poor results. I'm rooted and running a 2.1v3 ROM atm.
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6137989&postcount=23
or this
Long press power/end button. Turn Airplane mode ON. Press the power/end button to put your phone into sleep. Press power/end button to come out of sleep. Turn Airplane mode off.
The cell standby percentage will/should eventually go down to 0%.
or dont use task managers / killers. there is no use for it on the phone. android has a built in task killer that is really smart.
could be cell signal as well
issue solved
Hey guys, I solved the issue, i used the *#*#4636#*#* and in my settings it was trying to search for a GSM signal, so i changed it back to CDMA auto PRL
It was very strange it would do that but still its been running like a champ now, thanks everyone.

When I do this and look at the battery history, it says
Running 100%
Screen on 9%
Phone on .6%
and my battery level is at 58% currently. Mine is already set to CDMA/Auto PRL and my battery life within the last week or so has utterly SUCKED! I get up and unplug it at 3:30 am (fully charged) and go to my first job. By the time I get to my second job at around 10-10:15, I have to plug it in because it's very low. All I use it for at my first job is to check the time every once in a while. I dont play games on it, surf the web, etc. WHY should my battery be draining this fast when Im not using it!? Im seriously thinking about trading this POS in. Im so tired of this laggy, battery sucking phone!
I have the same problem. I turn on the mobile network only when I use it. ill turn on network with a full charge and check the news for maybe 5-10 minutes and my battery is down 10-15%. I haven't always had this problem. It started maybe a couple weeks ago. I'm using Android 2.1 leaked v3. I cent wait for my phone upgrade. This phone would be perfect for me if it wasn't for the HORRIBLE battery life.

I thought the same thing because it said cdma/auto prl when I got to like step 2 but I hadn't pushed menu and gotten the force close which then brought up the screen that did have gsm listed instead.
Just make sure you go through all the steps listed there...
Just out of curiousity, which Facebook version do you have? You have an app keeping your phone awake 100% of the time which is why your battery is draining and the 2 latest versions of the Facebook app are known to do that. If it isn't that app, download Spare Parts from the market and use it to check what is using the most under Partial Wake usage, the app and the top using the most battery will be the culprit.
Got the latest OTA update last night and since then my battery is literally gone. Like 100% to dead in about 3 hours. ZERO usage. My phone stays in airplane mode (currently out of teh country) just idling.
Anyone else having these issues? Or know of a fix, it's rather rediculous.
The OTA i'm referring to is the one that added Gtalk Video Chat.
Wow that is pretty bad. I would try factory resetting or recalibrating battery. Im currently at 41% with 10h 38 seconds.

I am having the same problem! No battery life at all since update!
I'm not having any battery issues since updating.
No battery issues to report whatsoever.
Hm. I charged it today morning at 90%, after 7 hours of active usage it was in 20%, i dont know it is quickly or not, i just bought it. Latest firmware here too

charge up, clear batt status and then let drain and charge back up. I wipe batt data and follow those steps every time i update software. so far on the 198_6 build im at 70% and 19hours and 20 minutes. i have 3g toggled off over night and had my wifi running while at work.
had about 45 minutes of talk time, and about 50 texts and 3MMS. not much web surfing, but i did update 8 apps also.
so charge up and wipe batt stat and get a new calibration.
Count me in to the list of people having serious battery issues upon the latest update. Threads going on at AndroidForums and Motorola Support Forum about this as well.
Oh okay. You guys are having battery problems.

Open Signal
Uninstalling Open Signal seemed to solve the issue for me. Anyone else?
I don't have OpenSignal installed, so not a viable solution for me.
If you are rooted I suggest getting battery calibration from the market and wipe your stats. I've had this update for a while with no problems what so ever. Either you have an app draining your battery or your stats are off.

I'm curious as to what your phone says is draining your battery... I haven't had any problems at all with the new OTA...
Maybe try adding some apps to the auto kill from the task manager? Browsers, and social apps running in the background can destroy battery life...

This hasn't been a problem I've seen reported with the sbf at all.. Flash it and call it a day. If you really don't wanna do that, calibrate he battery and see if that helps. The method of doing so is different depending on who you ask. I do it this way; run your battery down to zero as quick as possible. Charge it to full. Boot into cwm while still plugged into outlet. Let sit for about 15 mins. reset the batt stats. Reboot. Drain your battery as fast as possible again. Charge it to full. Good to go.

really? out of all the apps, you removed widget locker and battery life went back up? I might try it but i love widgetlocker, it makes my unlock slide much better! Gonna try to re-root the phone tonight since my su binary is outdated, whatever that is!
Latest SiyahKernel with stock rooted ICS 4.0.3.
Now, this has happened twice in the last week. I unplug the phone from my charger and place it under my pillow for the alarm to wake me up, and go to sleep. I disable both data and wifi so that twitter won't update and wake me up prematurely. Then, I oversleep about two hours, and what wakes me up is the phone that's EXTREMELY hot. The alarm doesn't go off and the battery is completely drained.
I have no idea what drained the battery and why the phone was that hot (I couldn't hold the phone for more than two seconds before I started experiencing pain). I've tried searching, but there were no topics like this one. So does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks for the answer, but even after doing everything there I have the same problem.
A few days ago, I was able to "intercept" the process.
I had just used the phone, and put it away. Then after no more than ten minutes, I noticed it getting extremely hot. When I tried unlocking the screen, the phone had frozen, so I had to pull out the battery to turn it off. When I put the battery back in again and turned it on, the battery level was down from around 80% to around 60%. The battery graph showed like vertical drop, so it was clear that it had happened within those 10 minutes.
Is there really noone who has had this problem before?

Try N.E.A.K ICS kernel. I had some really good results with aokp rom. It's compatible with Samsung rom as well I think. Check it out
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I'd be more worried about it setting my pillow alight
Steps.you could try:
- Wipe all data (Optional maybe an app conflicting with something)
- Update kernel or change rom to CM9 or any other stock
- If none of those work try an different battery
*I believe its an well wakelock had this when i was using siyah 3.1 Rc 1-5*
~Blizz™;
I had roughly the same problem. I did a full wipe and installed a custom from and changed the kernel... everything works perfect then. One of my friends finds taking his battery out every few days works best. Try both and see what results you get.

I would have to guess that it's either the kernel or the battery calibration. Are you using a third party battery? I think with the original samsung batteries, this must not be as much of a problem (I have never owned an original samsung battery for my S2, sadly). I know that with my fake Chinese super-cheap "2150mah" battery, which somehow is small enough to fit in the original cover which makes me think it's more like 1350mah, I have gotten horrible battery drain problems for basically no reason. But, after following the thread where it was explained to charge to 100% and then take the battery out, wait three minutes, and put it back in, I've had the phone stay at 100% for over four hours, with wifi, syncing, and all that turned on.
I should mention that I sometimes also have had this problem where it seems to be charged, then for some reason it drops to 20%.
If your battery is third party, make sure you calibrate it. I've also noticed that the more roms I flash, the worse my battery life is, so I'm trying to resist the temptation of flashing something new every twenty minutes.
Good luck.
/proc/last_kmsg
Use it.
You could try downloading Better Battery Stats and hope to identify the wakelock or app that's draining the battery. If it's not either of those and you haven't always had an issue with it under your pillow, I'd say it's time to try a wipe and new rom and if the problem persists even after that...hardware problem.
Have you been able to leave it under the pillow previously? Part of me is wondering if the overheating itself is affecting the battery and causing it to degrade though I doubt it should happen so quickly and in such an odd fashion as you're experiencing.
After a bit more tinkering and testing, I'm almost 100% certain that it's the kernel, as it was the only thing "constant" in my testing. I reflashed over and over. I also think it has something to do with the wifi, since when wifi's off, my phone is fine and doesn't get touched by the described bug. So right now, I'm waiting for SiyahKernel 3.1 to be released while keeping wifi off.
On the changelog for RC6, it says that the "battery drain issue" is fixed, and on the changelog for 3.1, it says "new wifi drivers", so I'm assuming it'll be ok once the 3.1 is released. Thanks for all your replies and help.

Hello everyone, I'm using Motorola Atrix with Epinter CM10 4.1 ROM for last 2 months, I was very happy with battery life. Phone wasn't getting hot and with normal usage, even with 3G on (in my country only options are 2G and 3G), I could get %40 of battery end of the day. But for no reason, phone has started to get hot (only 2G on) and drains battery really quickly for last 1 week. I can't even get %5 battery left from morning to evening now. I didn't change anything, only installed Adobe Flash 11.1, then I deleted it but nothing has changed. Phone gets into deep sleep no problem with that, no background apps. I did a virus scan both on phone and from computer, both came out clean. I reinstalled rom. Nothing. I'm gonna crash my phone against wall it's really annoying. I think I'm gonna do factory wipe and reinstall rom again.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Do you leave wifi switched on at all times?
I use MIUI on my Atrix (partially based on epinter's work, I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong), but I have found that the phone suddenly starts staying awake for no apparent reason a while (often a couple of days) after I've left wifi switched on. This obviously causes bad battery drain. I can usually get the phone to sleep again by rebooting with wifi switched off (I think) and a battery pull is invariably required.
I now just switch on wifi when I have large files to download then turn it off straight afterwards.
Not sure if it is the same issue or not, but Better Battery Stats (which can be downloaded on xda) indicated the Rilj process was stopping the phone from sleeping when this problem occurred. It is worth trying this app to see if it gives any indication what is causing your battery drain.

No I switch between mobile data and wifi. Thank you for your suggestions and opinions but I really don't think my problem is about sleep. It started to get hot and drain when I actually use the phone. For example, I was checking Twitter for 10 min. with 3G and battery was dropping %1. Now it drops %5 with 2G on and gets really hot like 35-37 Celsius degree. I'm using Watchdog to oversee processes and nothing is working without my knowledge on background.
Hi,
I have the same problem on the nottachtrix roms since the last 2 weeks, I tried switching to epinter cm10 with no luck. Ordered a new battery to check if the battery is dead or if the atrix is faulty
if you find a fix, please post it here

install gsam battery monitor to see your phone's awake time. this drain happens to me also when i listen to music or take a photo. something with mediaserver keeps the phone awake and then only thing to do is kill mediaserver or a reboot.
Regardless of which other apps you are using to monitor app and process usage, I'd recommend trying Better Battery Stats as this is much more detailed and low-level than other apps I've encountered.
It's a free download for xda members:

Little update.
I turned back to factory settings, then did a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik wipe. I was so annoyed I even did system wipe manually from advanced options in recovery. I reinstalled Epinter CM10 rom, got my apps back thanks to Titanium Backup. Installed GSAM (thanks to saldirai), downloaded SetCpu and chose Nvidia Tegra 2 T20/AP20H, underclocked to 912 mhz. Couldn't done any undervolting sadly, says something about governor.
Now I'm checking battery stats and temperature by GSAM, so far no complaints and better from yesterday BUT I haven't use my phone heavily yet. Temperature changes between 26-31 Celsius degrees, battery drops %1-2 percent on use -also it needs calibration- with only wifi use which is always on. I'll update this post if anything changes.
Update: I think I've found the problem. When I choose The Weather Channel widget to "use my location" phone immediately starts to get warm. Weird point is, this wasn't an issue before. Apart from that I'm playing New Star Soccer and Carmageddon for 3-4 hours with wi-fi full time on and battery drops to %30. I'm really happy about that. Normal battery temperature is about 25-32 during the day and different from before it quickly gets cold after I stop playing games. Just like before.

Will AT&T offer an exchange for their f*** up?
Yup, I just saw that about an hour ago. I've been losing about 25 - 30% per hour. From what I read doing a factory reset may fix it, but if I'm going to do that I figure I might as well just root this thing and flash CM.
It is usually recommend to do a factory reset and if you can wipe all caches, doing the OTA and not doing this is like a dirty flash. I have always wiped after OTA since my HTC Aria days and have had no issues. in fact even using @Wonders_Never_Cease great roms after I debloat further to what I like I go in and zip align and wipe caches just for my peace of mind. :victory:
You would think that AT&T would have a phone from each serial number batch and test the update on all of them. This may be caused by small hardware difference between them. I say this because some have not had any problems while other have. It seems some can "fix" this by doing a factory reset and some it makes no difference.
I didn't have battery drain but I noticed my texts stopped going through.
Clearing cache fixed it.

Just did the RUU update from HTC directly.
Reunlocked bootloader and flashed Viper. Perfect battery life so far, just about normal, maybe a bit better than before due to less apps/running processes (last viper rom was getting old)
Today I flashed my backup to the OTA of 4.4.3 to see these battery issues everyone's talking about. Woke up at 8 AM did the restore around 9 AM, its now 7 PM and I still have 88% battery left. With moderate use. So I dont know what everyone talking about about battery drain issues.
I have had great battery life with the OTA 223 I got 9 hrs 26 min with 67% left. I didn't hard reset it either and hooked up to the cloud.

The only time I had battery problems was because of the media-server holding my phone awake and at 1190mHz. It didn't go into deep sleep at all. Today I force-stopped a few apps which seems to be working...so far.

Yesterday I relocked my boot and unrooted SuperSU. I used the RUU exe from HTC's support. It says to have HTC Sync installed but I don't and only have the drivers installed on my 8.1 machine. It ran very quickly with no problems. After first boot I did a factory reset and cleared the cache. I then turned off FastBoot, I disabled all of the bloatware, and only updated the things I wanted to. I let the phone update while I made all of my personal settings. Next I turned the phone off and did the battery Calibration while plugged into the charger by holding all 3 physical buttons down for 3 mins. I let the phone charge to 100% then turned it on. I did a couple of restarts. It's been 12 hours and I'm still at 80% battery. Half of the usage is from me surfing the internet for a few hours last night...

Been a day or so and battery is still good.
Interesting... I've noticed a definite battery drain and I thought it was maybe an app I had installed. But it seems to match up since I noticed the drain in the days since I updated OTA. (Completely stock, bootloader never unlocked)

Is that really battery calibration on these devices?
I don't think it is a real way In my opinion the only way to calibrate the phone. It's charging to 100%then let it discharge to 0% once a month. I don't think pressing 3 physical buttons for 3 minutes will calibrate the phone
The first way to calibrate the M8 battery is through Recovery. Turn your phone off and boot it into Recovery mode. Using the volume up and down buttons select wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache. This will automatically reset the HTC One M8 battery. Even better, you should do a factory reset. In Recovery select wipe data option.
