Unlocking the phone how to... - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys quick question for you about unlocking Atrix. I have never done it before and I heard that some people had issues with wifi after so I would like to ask couple of questions.
- when I have the unlock code and I'm entering it do I need to have sim card in the phone?
- does the sim card have to be working one?
- should I have wifi on or off?
Thanks for your time.

- Yes. You have to have the sim card in the phone.
- The sim card does not have to be working. As long as it is not from the phone carrier.
- Once you put the simcard in, it wont let you get past it unless you enter the unlock. Then you can either turn on or off the wifi.

[Q] How can I stop my phone from going online after inserting a new SIM?

Hey all.
I think this might be a general problem with Android, but before someone scolds me for posting in the wrong place, I'm trying it here first.
I own two SIM cards... one I use regularly, the other that I only use to go online. I use APNdroid (well, actually Elixir, but the method of operation is the same) to prevent my usual and expensive SIM card from connecting to the internet. However, when swapping one SIM card for the other, the phone goes online either way.
- SIM1 is in the phone, APNdroid has data disabled
- I turn off the phone, insert SIM2
- After using SIM2, I switch back to SIM1
- When the phone has started up, SIM1 goes online immediately, despite the APN setting having been wrong before using SIM2.
Is there any way I can stop this from happening? Going online with SIM1 costs me a fortune and going into settings to disable data through Android is quite tedious.
Cheers

[Q] PUC code related to unlock menu?

So on my phone, I have a sim card pin setup when you turn it on. After you incorrectly enter the pin number 3 times, it locks you out until you call your service provider. So I called my service provider, who gave me a PUC (pin unlock code) code and told me that there should be an option that says enter your puc or something like that. But there wasn't, so the assistant asked me to enter it in the emergency dialer. When I hit dial after entering the PUC, it said that it was not an emergency dialer. According to the assistant, it should have automatically accepted the code, bringing me to the issue of the unlock menu. On stock, when you enter in *2945#500#, it should automatically accept the code, but on custom roms, it doesnt. I believe the two issues are related, but I would like to confirm this first. And maybe this might be sort of a request to the devs asking if they can include the unlock menu (i have read that it is not implemented as it is useless to most people) since now I have to get a new SIM card (not that it is the devs' fault, but it would be useful for people like me).
Or you could borrow a dumbphone and use that to unlock your sim (unless you get to keep your old number if you get a new one).
I have yet to experience needing a PUC on my sim on this phone on this ROM.

just tried that but it didnt work. probably because my sim card has been locked permanently
if a simcard is locked, than its locked and can only be unlocked by a PUK code.
You can order a new SIM card from network provider, its possile i know if the PUK is locked too because of to many failed trys.
even if i break the code to use the SIM card again, you cant make calls nor use
the contacts on the SIM - the network provider is checking the SIM status and
locks it again.

thanks for the reply.
but does the PUK code have anything to do with the unlock menu or those hidden codes in general? i know that on stock froyo, some codes are accepted automatically in the regular dialer. on custom roms, these codes are not accepted in the regular dialer at all. the emergency dialer did not accept the PUK code just like how the regular dialer did not accept the other codes (such as *2945#500#) and i was told that it was supposed to accept the code.
sorry, i never used hidden menus and dont know if its implemented in android source
or its a extra feature by manufacturers like LG, HTC,Samsung etc.
As i know the PUK is only for unlock the SIM when the chip is locked and can only be entered on a lockscreen keypad.
finally solved the puk issue. on my phone it did not ask for me to input the puk code. then i inserted my sim card in my dad's phone (same phone except running on stock froyo). now it asked me for a puk code. if only custom roms had this functionality of accepting these codes...

barred but sim working

so back again
recently had a post about my galaxy s2 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502801 ) having network connection problems
so since the galaxy was bought second hand, i unblocked it with helroz application. The point is - it doesn't recognize my sim card in the country where i am now (Orange - France -only emergency calls), but accpets my foreign sim card (Roaming of course - but connected to one of the operators (SFR)).
Does this suppose to mean it's barred?
Does not accept a sim card
Sim Card faulty
Sim Card blocked .
And what do you mean by not accept have you set the Orange network connections ??
jje
both 2 cards work perfectly on other phones, so i don't think it's sim card problem
for each card the gsm ask for pin code - correctly input
but only for the orange card shows - emergency calls only
by settings you mean the APN?
aren't they supposed to be automatic when you insert the sim?

Nope, sometime you need to configure yourself, send message by you network operator or manual install, just give them a call
APN are fine
they were correct, deleted anyway and input again, same situation....
other suggestions?
still don't get if phone is barred why is my foreign sim card working since it uses the roaming netowrk?

The PIN and the PUK with SIM Unlocking?

I've read a lot about unlocking phones over the years. But this is the first time I have actually come up on a feature called "Sim Card Lock" where you enter a PIN to lock a particular Sim card. This feature is unlocked as long as I have my Sprint Sim in the phone. But as soon as I put in, like say, an AT&T Sim the Sim Lock feature turns on and locks. In other words, it has a checkmark where I have to enter a PIN to unlock it. Sorry to seem like a complete noob. But is this the same "sim unlock" many are trying to crack? There must be a PIN that has been coded in that locks down any foreign Sim. If so, it seems like it would be possible to figure it out. Every time I enter the incorrect PIN code, it always says I have "0 attempts left". So I can enter it as many times as I like without locking down my ATT Sim. Anyone know of a way to figure this out. Or is it even possible at all?

SIM Card Not working

I have a galaxy gear S but unable to use the phone features. If I restart, I see it is connected but after a while, it says, insert SIM card.
Anyone seen this issue?
Thanks in advance
Ask your carrier for a new SIM card. It should be free.
