the sound out of my 3.5 is so bad I may use a fm transmitter
I use PowerAmp and the preamp slider in the equalizer does help considerably using my phone connected to my car radio by the headphone jack. I use a 3.5 MM adapter (example) that has a mic and turn my car radio into a hands free.

I plug the adapter linked to above to the Streak and a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable to the aux input on my car radio. Works just like using a headset with a mic, except the putput is through the radio speakers. The adapter mic is sensitive enough That I can use it with the mic about 3 feet from me on my console.

hi,
already asked this on the official sony-erricson forum but no response, so maybe someone here can help....
has anyone managed to connect an external microphone to the x10 for video recording? maybe with some kind of self-made adapter?
not talking about hands-free sets but rather a more "professional" recording microphone.
i already tried to connect various external microphones (active and non-active) to the phone but then i only get statics / clicking noises.
reason i'm asking is i took a video at a concert but the sound is clipping really bad... really a shame especially with upcoming 720p recording....
(maybe another solution would be if it was possible to adjust the sound recording level... any app for that?)
It should be possible to add an external microphone. You probably will need a homemade adapter. The headphone/microphone jack is a TRRS connector (tip, ring, ring, sleeve). Check Wikipedia for TRS. The "pinout" is listed there.

So if you just plug the handsfree in with and/or without the headphones as well, it records audio (voice memo and video)?

yes, you can use the hands-free (with or without the headphone part) as a microphone when recording video... quality is a little better than the internal microphone but still not really good...

thank you argnom... . now i know what to search for..
there seem to be some adapters for the iphone that split the trrs connector into seperate microphone/headset connectors... maybe i will try one of these... or is the wiring different on the x10 from the iphone?
www . showmecables.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=8335
edit: think i found the one i need (IF the wiring is the same as for the iphone...)
www . kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-mic.htm
I really don't know if the wires are in the same order... I suppose they should be.

any more info to back this up? did you try it yourself? (what mics did you try?) or read it somewhere? (link?)
I've tried everything single brand. Dr dre beats, shure, sennheiser, any headphones or earbuds that have mic it won't work with x10. You can use x10 headset that came in box with regular earbuds or headphones

lol true like mw600 but drains battery
Has anyone got an external microphone working with the HTC One X. I have bought and adapter and a microphone but its still not working at all. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm using obsidian v2 froyo build. Music and navigation work fine thru the headphone Jack when attached to my car stereo. However when a call comes in or if I'm trying to make a call I get nothing. I've searched thru various forums and others are having the same issue but could not find a solution. Any help would be appreciated
its a "feature" of all the froyo roms. froyo seems to want to ignore headphones without mic as it has a self-esteem problem and does not trust the quality of its mic at a distance.
it seems to be a kernel issue and won't be able to be addressed until they devs have source. only alternative is to have a cable with an in-line mic. that works for most of the roms. (i would say all, except i just flashed latest macnut and its not working )
EDIT: also, don't post this in dev forum. i answered nicely, but this is not the appropriate venue.
So why does it work for some and not for others
wait, so audio out still works fine but NOT the in-line mic?
sorry for the noob question, but i was going to flash obsidian later this evening, and i really need the 3.5 audio out. don't really care about using in-line mic headphones at all
thx
it doesn't. those for whom it works are those using headphones with a mic, those for whom it doesn't are using headphones or cable without mic.
well, crap

It is a kernel issue. We are looking into it.
The funny thing is when I first flashed obsidian v2 I attempted to try out the 3.5mm out thru my car speakers. I was listening to Pandora in my car, I received a call and I heard the caller thru my car speakers. But it has not worked since then. And all I'm using is an audio out cable attached to my Alpine head unit
This does not work on any Froyo Roms, because of the required external mic, but does anyone know of a 3.5mm adapter that has a jack for headphones as well as a inline mic? Would this work ?
EDIT:
Looking at the audio routing from this page: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/AudioManager.html
it looks like some of it is deprecated, does this mean that it will never work?
int ROUTE_EARPIECE This constant is deprecated. Do not set audio routing directly, use setSpeakerphoneOn(), setBluetoothScoOn() methods instead.
int ROUTE_HEADSET This constant is deprecated. Do not set audio routing directly, use setSpeakerphoneOn(), setBluetoothScoOn() methods instead.
int ROUTE_SPEAKER This constant is deprecated. Do not set audio routing directly, use setSpeakerphoneOn(), setBluetoothScoOn() methods instead.

I see. Well I hope there's a solution soon, in the meantime keep up the great work u guys are doing for us.
I'm having a hard time understanding what everyone is saying is broken here...
I use a standard line out cable from my headphone jack into the analog aux input on my car stereo. I purchased a cheap extension cable that has the 3.5mm plug on one end and a mic/button at the other end that I plug the regular cable into. When I get a call, I pick up the mic on the cable and speak into it and I can hear the caller through my stereo and they can hear me just fine. This has always worked for 2.1 ROMS and so far has worked for three 2.2 ROMS I've tried.
Everyone is saying that the mic function is not working, but it's working fine for me.

It is working for you because of your extra external mic, it is confirmed a few post back that when using an external mic, it work fine but when using just a pair ear phones + internal mic (the one at the bottom of your phone), it fails to work. It used to work on 2.1 roms.
same thing here, went from fusion 1.1 to V4 Onyx...big pain in the ass out on the road today. Never wold have thought to check for that. I constantly have music going, ussually it will pause my mp3, and beep and show up the phone call, but now music plays, until I anwser and no go from the headphone jack.. I have mine hooked to an fm transmitter so i can take calls over car speakers.

Ah. That makes more sense then - I thought people were using the mic built into the headset, not the actual phone.
d33dvb, the cable I use is similar to this one:
http://www.accessorygeeks.com/apple-iphone-maletofe-headset.html
It's an iPhone accessory, but works fine with the Vibrant. It's been a few months since I bought it, and don't remember where I got it, but I do know that I got two of them for less than 8 bucks.

Thanks man, I think I will hit the best buy and that will be my temp solution to running 2.2
This issue is the biggest reason I'm not running a 2.2 rom.
What's the quality of the mic like on that adapter cable? The mic built into the phone is really good, I was on a call one day and had only raised my voice a little, but the caller on the other end asked me to stop yelling. I was like "Umm... I'm not"

Hi.
This is my first Samsung so, have mercy
None of my headphones are working.
I only get sound in one side and the other is too low. Almost inexistent.
I tried with cable to connect it to my audio system and the same.
Next step was to use the hands free from my X10.
Is working ... but not as expected. Almost no bass and no trebles.
The only ones working are the ones from the SGS2 box or using my headphones via MW600 bluetooth (which i don't like it as it drains more batter and the SGS2 is power hungry)
So, is a problem with the 3.5" ?
Or my headphones?
Or ... is a compatibility problem? Can i find somewhere an 3.5" adapter?
Thanks
Its gonna sound dumb but u have plugged the jack all the way in yeah? Takes a little bit more force than u think

Worked with other headsets for me
- Dell streak headset
-Iphone headset
Needed that extra push to fit the pin in really well
Well, i'll try one more time ... anyway, earlier i found something else using the X10 headset.
If i press the "answer" button from headset, everything is fine but as soon as is de-pressed ... it goes back.
I have a similar problem with my expensive Shure earphones. They sound much worst and "tinny" then the standard earphones that come with the S2. Even if these earphones are cheap, at least the sound is acceptable.
If I plug the output of the S2 into my car stereo, I again have terrible sound. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that the stock S2 earphones have 4 contacts on the jackplug as compared to 3 on normal jackplugs. The extra contact, I presume, is to permit the switch for fast forward to work on the headphones.
I can't understand why other people don't have this problem - and yes the jack plug is pushed right in.
Yep, pretty sure, the jack is down entirely and still not working.
I tried with the SE X10 headset and normal stereo headphones
I think i will have to stick with the bluetooth if i can't find an adapter of some sorts.
Hi all!
Im looking to get some better quality earphone with mic like Ultimate ears or V-moda or some other kind....
Do you guys have any idea which good ear phone with mic works on S2?
can you guys give me some names?
Thanks.
any one???
yes any headset that wupports the mobile standard will work. this includes in line mic, and button control. search for headsets like bose MIE2 headset, or any other manufacturer that supports the mobile standard, and it works just fine.
I recommend Atomic floyd, such nice headphones.
I am using Griffin Smart Talk with my Sennheiser in ear headphones.
Basically you plug this on your phone, plug the headphones to this and you're up and running.
Works very well!
any more recommendation guys? Griffin Smart Talk looks quite alright tho...

Has anyone use the TF201 on an airplane with closed, but not noise-cancelling headphones?
I've found that it's not possible to get the volume up loud enough on my Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones to be able to hear dialog in movies. The headphones are great, but even with a closed design they are just too quiet at the loudest volume to really hear well on an airplane.
Has anyone used a portable amp with the prime that you would recommend? I've done a quick search and it seems like a lot of amps need a digital input. I'd imagine that I'd just need a simpler analog amp that takes a 3.5mm input. I'm looking for something cheap to just help on an airplane. Any recommendations? The cheaper the better.
Check out of the fiio e line. They have some portable amps that use the 3.5mm connection. I have a fiio e6 and i like it

Have you used it on an airplane and does it seem to give you enough of a boost to overcome the background noise? I think I got confused when I saw the fiio amps because they photos show them hooked up with a custom connection to an iPhone for example, but now I see they just take a 3.5mm input.
And they aren't too expensive so I might just try it out.
I have the same model headphones.. a Prime.. a Fiio amp. The cheapest one... And they work great! Makes them much louder

using windows phone 7 on my hd2 you could increase these volumes from the rom. Is there nothing like this in android?
Don't know if you tried any of the apps on the play store. I use volume + app. Works great. Lets you go above the stock volume levels for both the internal speakers and headphones. There are other apps out there to boost volume as well.

Of course.. but you need to be running a rooted/custom ROM. You can usually mess with the audio configuration files in the /etc folder for whatever audio amplifier chip is in the device.
I use an app from the play store called "equalizer" to accomplish what you're looking to do, works perfect:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImNvbS5zbWFydGFuZHJvaWRhcHBzLmVxdWFsaXplciJd
Just do a custom setting, and instead of doing a typical EQ curve, just boost every slider by the same amount and this will give you a volume boost.
