Hello all, I am attempting to use root explorer which I've put on my tablet with drop box, which i installed via exchange email.. and I'm a little confused. I am trying to install the market fix, however I cannot seem to open /system with root explorer, even when i have su. Whenever I open the /system folder root explorer force closes (newest version).
Using Vanilla AOSP Gingerbread with latest clockworkmod recovery - also attempted to fix permissions.
Any help would be great

Hey guys,
After almost three hours of googling and frustration, I cannot find an answer to my question.
I have a Galaxy S 4G, rooted using Superoneclick (confirmed by having wireless tether and superuser)
I installed Rom Manager, got the clockworkflash version for my phone, and started a reboot into recovery mode.
...
when I got to recovery mode, I see a little android and a exclamation mark. There was an error with installation saying something like "signature not verified"
All I want to do is replace the dialer graphics for my phone.
And that requires some flashing.
I tried an alternate method where I used Root Explorer, trying to replace the old dialer file with a new one. However, I am unable to modify the permissions in the system folder. Whenever I change the permission, it reverts back to the regular settings. I cannot rewrite any file in the system folder.
So how do I get recovery mode to work on my phone,
and how do I modify system file permissions to make them re-writable?
I rooted my phone using GingerBreak, but can't install Busybox. Downloaded it from market but it never finishes installation, saying there's already another installation of busybox and immediately quits after. Any ideas how to install it properly?
I think it means Gingerbreak also installed busybox and installing another instance is not necessary. It could also mean that there is a special version for your device
after rooting some programs asked me to install busybox, so it rather wasn't installed... and they're still asking now, so nothing changed
install root explorer
create folder /system/xbin.change permissions to r/w
try again to install busybox
this work for me
My Razr Maxx installed the OTA ICS update today. There were no error messages. Everything seemed to run fine. And on top of that I thought that my root was preserved.
Well, I have an old version (3.0.3.2) of SuperUser intalled that I cannnot uninstall. I cannot mount /system/ as read-write using ADB. I can't mount /system/ as rw using Terminal Emulator on the phone. I tried the one-click script EternityProject EasyRootICS to install root and it seemed to work (no errors reported), but when I edited the batch file to get rid of all of the CLS (clear screen) commands, I was able to see that when it tried to write the new superuser app to /system/bin/ it's failing (with no error reporting).
So what do I do now?
The bottom line is that I need root, but I don't know how I can get root without getting rid of my old SuperUser installation first.
I have the exact same problem..... I can't get rid of Superuser, but I can't get access too use any root applications. SU denies all of them...
Go to this link here and where it says "Note: If you don't get root by other method root attempt with su and Superuser.apk already installed." download from that link.

It helped with Superuser not working properly.....
hi guys,
i have a wetab, and recently i installed windows 8 on it, and it works so good
since 2 days i liked to try and see how will android be on it but i dont want to format the windows 8
therefor i made an sd card bootable with android 4.0.3 installed on it, it the the project android-x86
in all cases all went well, but i realise that it have superuser.apk , and yes the rom is rooted, BUT
you cant grant access for root, what i mean is
i can open the root explorer, go to system/app delete what ever i want it work, but when i want to change permission
for example i cant it say i must gain root, i open superuser make the response always allow, but no clue, keep denying
everything...and what i saw also in system/app that all the apps permission is set to rwxrwxrwx and it is odexed rom
tried to update superuser...the same story never worked. tried to replace the su and busybox in system/xbin, and superuser.apk in system/app,
and su in system/bin with the latest versions....it didnt boot up lol the android is no longer detected.....and there is noway to go to recovery since it has not.....
so when there is root how i can edit or manage or gain root access ???
and by the way in terminal command
adb shell
root
i got this # so root is available
Lol....no one ?

I run into following problem. I have successfully rooted my phone and installed magisk. Now what I try is to replace the bootanimation.zip...
But it fails at permissions. I granted superuser access via Magisk to the app (Es file explorer) and I also toggled the root option to in in this app. But whichever I try it fails neither can I delete or write to the system. I also tried different root explorers facing the same issue.
Those someone know how to solve this?
Thanks in advance

Same issue here.
Sadly don't know an solution
Your /system partition where you want to replace the file is read only. Flash a custom rom or use this automatic script from this thread to rebuild your /system partition as read-write and you will be able to replace the files.
