What baseband to use? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hae an x10a and discussion In the tread for wolfbreaks ROM has made me hesitant, should i stay on 54 or flash to 58?
From my X10a running WB CM 6.1.3 V054

well..you won't lose much if you don't upgrade to .58 . There isn't much difference in battery life or connectivity. So, the decision to upgrade is entirely upto you...In any case should things not work out for you, you can always reflash the .54

[Q] Can someone explain to me the basebands, ROMS, and f/w files?

Ok so I have the x10i
Baseband is 2.1.54
Build number is 2.1.A.0.435
What do they mean ? and how do these affect roms, ( are roms specific to certain basebands or build numbers?)
and would Cyanogen CM7.0 RC4 v013 Gingerbread 2.3.3 work on my phone?
Thanks for you help this is a one time question and I plan to understand this stuff once and for all
Basebrand basically just means what type of radio signal I believe. Build number is the firmware that you have. Usually ROMS require a certain type of basebrand, so always look for it before you flash anything. CM 7 wouldn't work on your phone because you are running .54 basebrand and it runs on .52 basebrand. If you do not have the correct basebrand you can have a bootloop in which your phone basically doesnt function at all. If you fairly new to this i suggest you flash a stable ROM such as CM6.1.3 by wolfbreak or Freex10 Rom by Z.(both work with .54 basebrand) CM7 is too unstable for a new user to be testing
Alright thanks!
I will check out those roms
So ROMs can work on any Firmware version? but they are only working for certain basebands?
There's normally a list of requirements on the ROM thread that you want to flash. Should normally work if you have the correct basebrand though. =)
Thanks!
Baseband - it is concerned with the cellular reception , signal strength, data etc. The newer the baseband the better reception.
Each rom works on a specific baseband just like posted above.

Future Update with Baseband

Hi firends,
Im now currently using CM 6.1.3 gingerbread V01 by rendeiro2005.
and i have upgraded my BB to .58.
And if official GB 2.3 is released and i want to update to that using SEUS,do i need to revert back to the stock baseband i had or will it work with the present baseband?
Guys please revert to my query!
Why not just wait for it to be released first before asking
no.
baseband had nothing to do with it.
but you won`t be notify (on any custom rom)

i need that rom , for that , i have to change my baseband to 55/54/58
| PLEASE HELP |
i am a nooob in this.
You need to install flashtool and in the directory it creates on your computer is where the firmwares folder is. That's where you put the .ftf files for BBs and FWs. If all you want to change is baseband than you dont need to DL firmware too but you should upgrade to 2.1.A.0.435 FW before you change the BB and if you are going to go to .55 you might as well go .58.

No the firmware folder isnt a actual firmware. .When you flash the basebrand you have to flash it via flashtool which is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10738467
When you download flashtool you need to put the basebrand FTF folder into the "firmwares" folder in the flashtool. Run the flashtool and flash the basebrand and there you go. Theres a guide on how to to it properly if you dont know how. It's simple =)

but bb 58 is for x10i , while mine is x10a, the highest available for this was 55.
thats why i was going for it.. please correct me if im wrong
i have the rom, its good n stable. thankyou all for support and help
though i was BADLY STUCK in btwn , i had installed bb 54 and not the custom rom . and i was crying because i wasnt getting radio or wifi !
then suddenly GOD came to me and said : try installing the rom xD lol
i got the wifi and the radio it works n looks awsome !
There is no difference in using x10i BBs on x10a. Your hardware isnt going to change, it just changes your phone info to x10i. I have an x10a but have used many x10i BBs and there is no difference in phone capabilities or compatibilities.

is there any way i can go back to my stock 2.1 ?
do i have to change my bb back to 46 frm 54 to run that ?
because my stock 2.1 wasnt catching radio signals on bb 54
Use flashtool again and flash the se firmware of the baseband you want.
Sent from XDA Premium from my X10a rooted running 2.2.1 Pure CM Rom from kxhawkins
also, im having problems with opening contacts.
the process infinite.view crashes every time i ty to open a contact :\
another small doubt. if i want to flash Stock se rom , il download n install the zip using xrecovery . but will it also change my bb ? because currently im on 54, my stock bb was 46,
i wasnt getting radio signals with Stock se rom + bb 54 .
then i put custom rom and i got the signals + wifi working
To install and use Stock se rom , do i have to put bb46 back ? or the stock rom will already have the required BB in it ?
sorry for noobness.

BBs can only be flashed, not installed thru recovery.

[Q]Android 2.3.3 & BB 71 in x10a

Hi, is the new update and baseband for x10i working correctly in the x10a? Because i don't wanna break my phone trying it.
Yes it works fine... use Wolfs ROM and instructions if you have Xrecovery installed already.
There is no way you will break the phone just because the ROM was for X10i. The worst scenario you can expect is that the radio not working as it should, like you won't get 3G connection or SMS not working.
Here in the U.S. I don't have any problems whatsoever running the X10i 2.3.3 prerooted ROM on my X10a.

[Q] x10a baseband

Hi Guys,
Done some searching and haven't found an answer to this. My apologies if i have missed it!
I'm a bit of a newb at flashing, i've only flashed stock 2.1 and cyanogen mod 6.5 to my xperia so far. I'm currently on baseband .54 on my xperia x10a. All the gingerbread roms i'm looking at have a baseband of .71. I'm currently looking to flash wolf break's one.
My question is, since i need 850\2100 wcdma for coverage, will flashing this baseband affect that at all? Or do I totally misunderstand basebands?
Many thanks in advance!
Note: my xperia already says it's a x10i (but it's definitely a x10a) in about phone. But i'm just paranoid since i use my phone for work
I'd really appreciate some help if any of you guys know
As far as I know all the frequencies will work.
Hey dude im on x10 with baseband 71 and can tell u it works fine with at and t
