do we have usb host mode capabilities with the t-bolt? i would hate to buy another adapter like i did for my eris and then find out we have no host mode. i would like to be able to plug in a mini keyboard, a game controller, or even just a flash drive, but not without host mode. if we dont, any ideas on enabling it somehow in an ASOP rom maybe?
I have been asking the same question.. Our devs don't seem to like the idea very much.. I think it would be a major advancement..
You can plug a flash drive into the eris?

yea it would be awesome, and no you cant, it has no host mode the og droid does though, i think it has to be hardware enabled but you would assume there would be a way to emulate that with the phone
The hardware does in fact support host mode.. I believe most htc phones do... The kernel is the tricky part.. if any devs would like to help us out.. Please give a shout

I'm learning how to cook kernels.. With the sole propose of eventually getting host mode

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I'm very interested in this! Any movement on it?

Yes and no.
The Android 3.1 platform (also backported to Android 2.3.4) introduces Android Open Accessory support, which allows external USB hardware (an Android USB accessory) to interact with an Android-powered device in a special "accessory" mode.

People have gotten it working through software emulation already on htc phones similar to the thunderbolt (desire) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702742

The gingerbread leak we currently have is 2.3.4. Whether it's enabled already in that build or it will come later is something I don't know.
Any more movement on this? I wait with eager anticipation for the ability to connect a usb drive to my thunderbolt!
I am also in need of a kernel for my Thunderbolt. I could really use the USB Host functionality.

Searching inside in xda forum i find that USB OTG cable working in SGS II....
Anyone knows maybe we can have one of this working in our phone ????
It will be very helpfull for my daily work....
link with video....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070573
There are a couple of things needed for this to work. The hardware of the phone needs to support acting as an usb host and driver module in the kernel needs to support that hardware mode as well. I was looking around for this too a while back, and I think I remember finding, that the kernel module had no support for the host mode, but I am not sure I am right. At the very least I think it will require a custom kernel, with some modules built, that I do not believe are in any of the custom ones here.
Kind regards
Martin

Anyone read anything about this yet? I've seen tid bits of info on it. And I don't think it's the SDK release that someone was talking about building a port off of before. But I'm not totally sure, just curious if anyone else has info. As this could be a hint to what is needed for us to get the ball rolling.
ive seen some articles. not sure if it was built from sdk tho
Yep it's built from SDK that was released on the android sdk website. I did a google search and found that out.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
If its built from the SDK, you would be lucky or incredibly determined to even get the phone/data to work in most cases.
Ah. Okay. Didn't know it was buolt iff the SDK. Thought there was an actual legit base. Nevermind then.

Well, we can still possible do a port to the photon off of it, and do a system pull of our system, patch the data connection part, and this would have to be done by a developer.

What's wrong with the rest of the keys on your keyboard?
I'm removing your posts. That's four I just deleted.
I know it has to be built in to the kernel. And seeing as we currently only have one person doing kernel work, and doing it blind, it may be a while. But I would love to see that ability as well.

Ok so I just upgraded yesterday from the HTC inspire and I must say I'm liking the S3. Except for one thing, no usb mass storage mode? Duuuwwwhhhaaaatttt??? This is awful...just awful.. I work night shifts and play minecraft a lot at work

I have the 16GB sd card I pulled out of my inspire shoved in the S3's ext-sd slot and would love to know how to use it as a usb mass storage like I did on my inspire.. According to your signature you're in the wrong forum.
This is for the international i9300/i9300T
Easy UMS does not work on the kernels for the US-version since they don't include a necessary module.

I've tried that now and it didnt work for me.. is there any way to get easy ums to work for a 1747? Or are there any other apps like it that I could use?

You could use Wifi-based apps such as Samba Fileshare. It's easier to use since you don't actually have to plug the phone in the computer.

Here's a thread for the AT&T S3 on Mass Storage, requires some tinkering though.

that sucks for them, easy UMS is pretty awesome
Yep. It's probably not that hard to implement but not being a kernel hackers myself I honestly don't know (I always need at least 2-3 attempts to even compile a configured/patched kernel right for my freaking servers... I'm wondering when the data center techniciens are gonna get annoyed at my requests for a KVM/IP every other day on the test server *g*)

Just upgraded from Razr Maxx HD to the Samsung S4 and am currently on the VRUAME7 version.
I want to be able to plug my s4 into the mini USB running from my radio deck in my car. I have rooted the phone. I have formatted my microSD card to FAT32 to be recognized by the deck. Now the only trouble I am having is getting the phone into Mass Storage mode. Is there any possibility to get this working currently? I have tried a few apps with no avail. I would really appreciate any input on this situation! I really do not want to use the AUX option.
Thanks in advanced!
Hmmm.... don't newer phones go into MTP or whatever? Your deck may not recognize it because of that. It was a PIA getting dolphin to recognize my GNex in fedora because if it.

Yes, that is my understanding of the newer Google phones. Maybe I am just out of luck until more development comes along for the newest OTA.
There is an app in the play store which tries to address this. Can't recall the name right now but I ran across it a couple weeks back. Since I don't need it I can say anything more about it but you might search there.

"SG USB Mass Storage Enabler" (can't post links because im a newb here)
This might be what you are thinking of? Unfortunately it says it is not supported on my version of the S4.
Do you have another plug in for your CD player? Like aux in? If you do than that would probably be the only way to do it as of right now. Only thing is it won't charge your phone but hey the gs4 has great battery life.

Yes, but as I mentioned in my original post I would rather not use the AUX. I specifically posted this in regards to playing through USB and in search of a way. I may have to do it, but I do not want to.

That's the one. Too bad about the compatibility problem. Looks like he has it on his radar. You might want to get in touch with the developer.
