No.

Not unless they find a simpler way for Root and SOFF
Also don't post questions in this forum, if you aren't releasing something, then this is the wrong forum to post in.

I am new to the forum and I am looking for the easiest way to root my fascinate sch-i500 phone. It has Froyo 2.2.1 currently. Any help is appreciated.
No worries. Use Z4 root, its a one click method which will do what you want rather easily. I posted a link below to a thread which includes the apk file and instructions on how to use it.

If you just want to root, find a one click root app. If you want to flash roms :
One tip: Read the stickies in the Development section. Your better off knowing what your doing instead of blindly following our advice. Sorry if this comes as a bit of a downer, but its for your own good.

^ Yup, he's right...The z4 root apk I posted does work 99.9% of the time without a hitch but sometimes things don't always go as planned and you may end up having to Odin because of it. Like TheSonicEmerald recommended read though the stickies and see what it will take to get your samsung fascinate back up and running again if something were to go wrong. It will save you a lot of time when it does happen, and believe me, if your going to be flashing roms and such things WILL go wrong. This isn't to scare you or anything, it is to assure you if anything goes wrong the forum is here to help. I've learned this one word of advice over my time here and thats, "YOU CAN NEVER BRICK AN ANDROID PHONE."I hope this helped you out a little. Happy modding.
I'm not new to rooting at all, I have rooted several devices. A friend of mine just got a Fascinate and all the info I'm finding seems old and depricated. Will this z4root still work? Is it simple enough for a newb to do? She really just wants root for the wifi tether for root users.
I couldn't agree more. I read a ton of stickies and it paid off big time
I would like todo a temp root for back-up before doing complete root. Following this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218193, I download RW_EVO_3D (Fr3vo_root) yet I am concered as I preformed the ota update yesterday to 2.08.651.2.
Since I'm unsure how the temp root completely works, does it still function as expected after the recent update or is it advised to wait?
/edit, thanks for the clarification (and apologies for posting in the wrong forum), solved using reply and link to https://twitter.com/#!/agrabren/status/104242060193837058
Agrabren tweeted yesterday that the fr3vo exploit was patched in the 2.3.4 update. You aren't able to temp root right now nor run revolutionary to s-off.
And just an FYI before everybody flames you, this should have been posted in the general section.

o'rly? Thx for bumping this topic to enlighten me on that. I hope your other 2,238 posts are more helpful then this one. Last I checked, only mods can move a topic so there's very little I can do besides inform you trolls to fo from this point on.

One person telling me would have been enough! You all remember your first threads, chances were you posted in the wrong section so take a chill pill!
Anyway i sorted it by repairing permissions from cwm at boot.

Everyday, there is a thread about someone bricking his phone or some other issue. Why isn't there a thread as a sticky for noobs trying to root this complicated device? Every other Android device I owned had one. This is what would help.
1) Identifying what phone you have i.e. Maxx,Razr,909,910,912, etc.
2) GSM or CDMA
3) What rooting method for what phone.
4) What recovery for what phone.
5) What kernels and ROMS for what phone.
I am sure this is available somewhere but it is very scattered at the moment and what i available is not very succinct. It seems as though this is the most easiest phone to brick and maybe this can be avoided by having a simple sticky here to which users can post to. Thanks.
Make a thread with all of that info. Maybe the mods will sticky it.

Wish I could, I am a noob at this phone myself.
I've tried numerous times with numerous methods. Can't seem to get it down. I consider myself pretty tech savvy. Any tips for a noob?
Read the instructions from the developer over and over. Then read it again before doing anything else. Read them several times in their entirety before beginning action. Most issues arise because people think they've read the instructions, but they missed that one key item.
Follow THIS step by step guide, assuming you are bone stock (as the guide states) and you will be golden if you do not skip anything.
I used his CASUAL one-click method (on mac, windows should be easier) and it was my first time rooting. 0 Problems.
Know exactly what version of stock software you have installed on your device. Make sure it lines up with any guide you are following. If you're not sure, ask. Make sure you have a comprehensive understanding of the following concepts before proceeding. If you're confused as to what any of these are, search the forums and google. As a last result, ask. Don't just think you know what these are. Be positive in your knowledge of these terms:
Root
(Locked) Bootloader
Recovery
Rom
Mod
Kernel
Flash/Install
Cache
Dalvik-Cache
Lastly, back up everything, every time. Best laid plans and all that. You can never be too safe.
Good luck
It all depends on whether you're on a Mac or PC. I had tons of problems with my Mac...I finally had to use my wife's work PC. There are also tons of Youtube videos with step by step instructions and links to the software...

Your first noob mistake is posting a question and not giving any details. What version are you on? Baseband? What have you actually tried? There are more than enough people to help guide you in the right direction. But as he said, do read until your eyes hurt. Then go away and when you come back, read some more
