Fastest Droid Eris Rom out there that's most stable? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

workshed --> gingerbread
workshed --> froyoshed
tazzpatriot --> gingertaz
zach.xtr --> xtrom
zach.xtr --> xtrsense
Conap --> celeb
In your opinion what would you think is the fastest and most stable droid eris rom? I recently upgraded to the droid 2 global which by the way is awesome. I haven't bothered rooting it because there is zero lag issues or any problems with the phone as it's already a bat out of hell. The question is i'm going to root a friends phone but I don't want to run into any problems with them complaining about glitches. they are not rooted so i'm thinking anything root would be better. I have my eris deavtivated but it was running worksheds gingerbread and it was pretty quick but wasn't sure if a sense base rom would be better?

For someone who didn't know what rooting is and doesn't intend on coming to this forum and flashing updates, I would suggest xtrSense.
It has all the features he's used to and its fast.

def can't go wrong with any xtr ROM
that being said, the "speed difference" between most ROMs here will be negligible... and most of the Eris ROMs that are still being supported are fairly feature rich and stable.

GingerShedBread, by Workshed. Hands down.

I have three Erises on my account.. mine I play with a lot and like to try ROMs. Currently running GSB (this thing is stable as hell and speedy)..
Although, it's still gingerbread and still being tweaked..
My wife's Eris and my buddy who is super technically illiterate have Conap's CELB on them.. Froyo is rock solid and Conap has made it so unbelievably smooth.
I would suggest CELB if your looking for a "flash and forget" ROM.
-Xith

You certainly can't go wrong with either of the xtr ROMs. They are fast, stable, and smooth. In my experience, everything else seems to be fast and stable, but not nearly as smooth.

xtrROM is by far the fastest rom I have used for 2.1 android.
Nonsensikal was the fastest 2.2 rom I used
GSB is the fastest 2.3 rom I use.

eris Lightning Rom the latest version was great and never had any problems with it plus everything worked just how it should

My $.02 .... Ginger Tazz (Gingerbread 2.3.3 CM7 rc4) v17 was the tops until v18 popped up- It is easily #1 for me & a lot of others (GREAT SUPPORT, CLEAN, FAST, STABLE 99.999% "ERROR-FREE" BUILDS ) .... and I am a verrrry picky person.
Try it out for yourself .... definitely the best GB ROM for the Eris (IMO) .... if you want FROYO .... I personally recommend The ROM (for pure SPEEEED), Vanilla Tazz 26 or 28,29 (For CM6 rc2 & Gingerbread-like UI/experience & CM features) but I started my whole Android experience with KaosFroyo (for 'Vanilla' Froyo) but quickly moved on to Nonsensikal Black n Blue (for the B/B theme & speed !) .....
Take your pick .... for what its worth, I personally vouch for every single one of 'em !!!

this. Nonsensikal faster than any 2.2 rom and I've tried all the popular ones (late builds of CELB, Kaos, Froshedyo, two Tazz roms ect). the only 2.2 I kept on nand after moving to GB...and yes it was still faster finalized than the ones that continued support and development and most updates other roms where doing I was able to find and flash seperately.
xtrROM faster than everything just boring IMO
and I was just starting to appreciate GSB real good before I got the Thunderbolt, actually miss CM7

+1 I totally agree

I haven't tried too many of the ROMs out there, but worksheds GSB blew my mind with what my little eris is capable of. I've been running it for a few months now and haven't had a single problem yet. I am admittedly pretty addicted to flashing pretty much every update he puts out so I'm not sure how it would work as a 'set it and forget it' ROM but it's definitely my favorite.

Yeah I haven't tried to many either but so far my favorite experiences have been with GSB. The recent update seems to have worked out all the minor issues that I was having.

I think ginger tazz v18 is crazy fast. But that is bias because I haven't tried gsb v 2.7 but I'm gonna try it out soon so I have a better opinion

For purely speed, XTRrom hands down. I try to use the 2.3 ROMS, but keep coming back because I can't stand the decrease in speed.

Currently, I'm using Gingertazz 17. I started with Ginger 15 and it was so much faster than 2.2. I had kaos froyo and like it a lot, but i think gingerbread is another leap. I didn't have any issues at all with gingertazz 17. Today, I did calibrate my battery because i noticed it wasn't lasting very long.

Nonsensikal was the best Froyo ROM. GSB is fantastic but still has a few (very few) bugs (particularly exchange e-mail, which is a CM bug, not workshed's fault). OMGB 1.1.1, in my opinion, is the fastest and most stable GB rom so far. It's lacking the CM7 mods, but I've been running heavy for 5 days with no issues

[Q] Upgrade to a Sense 2.2 Rom

Hi! These days i'm thinking to upgrade my hero to a sense 2.2 rom, but i'm not sure what is the best rom. I want to know too if it's better to install a sense rom than a non-sense rom. What do you recommend me?
Thanks.
there is no sense 2.2 ROM for the moment. only AOSP (non-sense).
and this must go in questions not development.
you can choose from Villan/Cronos/Fusion Froyo. which one you think suits you best.
AT the moment, there is no Sense 2.2 ROM. It will come sometime in this Q3 or maybe Q4 for the Legend, so we can port it.
I'm using VillianRom12, which is Sense. It's really good, not the fastest ROM and it's a tinybit ugly (1.5 Sense looks so good IMO). I'd recommend it.
And which rom do you recommend me? With sense or no-sense, and 2.1 or 2.2...
Depends,2.2 is still a little unstable but very usable where 2.1 is really stable just try each one see how it feels.Test drive them
im using cronos froyo atm which is a 2.2 rom, its very fast and very stable so i recommend that

The OP was looking for a sense ROM though. Probably should point out Cronos froyo isn't sense, like all other Froyo ROMs. It's 2.1 for sense I'm afraid...
I recommend this:
http://hero-roms.blogspot.com/2010/08/edge-hero-112.html
it is 2.1 Sense.
smooth and battery life is just great ; )
my favorite 2.1 sense rom is cronos droid 2.1
it's so similar to the 1.5 stock sense but with all of the 2.1 features and nice extras we all love such as automatic apps2sd etc.
the same can be said of most 2.1 sense roms these days, VR12, chocolate eclair 2.0
I just fine that cronos roms work perfectly out of the box without issues, his froyo rom too if you like bleeding edge.
There are lots though - and there's one called RC something which is also really really nice. (by robo somethingorother LoL)

[Q] CM7 GB ROMs

So, now that Tazz and Shed both have a stable CM7 GB ROM (v5 and v1.4), what are the differences? I loaded the same settings on both and played around. I ran Quadrant on both, the same. Very similar battery (tough to tell tho). Shed has less steps to set up and more built in themes, but Tazz offers ADW launcher as well as Launcher Pro. Has anyone found any other differences?
BTW, great job to both Tazz and Shed. Thank you for sticking with it and giving us two great choices! Also, thank you to everyone who helped them along the way!
Both are built under Cyanogen Mod 7 Nightly so performance wise you won't see any difference they both run fast
i believe GSB v1.4 can run ADW now.

Yep, I've ran both since v3 on tazz and 1.2 on shed, wondering if either cooked anything extra in as far as features that I haven't noticed?

Yep, and you can get the extra themes from the market too... just saying Tazz choose to bake it into his version.
right now they are very similar as the developers were trying to get stable fully functional roms. as time progresses they will probably start to have more differences.
ADW always did work for me on 1.2 but that's just me. It does indeed work on 1.4 and 1.4 is incredibly fast and stable. I'm not going anywhere as far as ROMs go for my Eris. I'm happy with GSB.

[Q] Alternative to FroydVilllain 1.7.2

I currently have FroydVillain 1.7.2 rom on my phone.
I want to try something else because I had some problems with it.
Sometimes the phone is laggy, the messages load time is really slow, sometimes I don't get call and can't make them( ex: someone call me and it does the same thing as if my phone was closed), youtube problems and many other things.
Still there is some things I like about it, the quality of the camera(not really the interface), the easy user interface ( don't really like that half circle in other version), and other things.
So for a guy like me, who dosen't use his phone to play with it or you know, mess with the cpu (and other things like that) what other rom would you advise me.
(I would still like to have something with Android version 2.2.1 or newer, don't know the difference between each but I don't want to have less options or I don't know what)
Thanks.
+ The battery die fast.
In my opinion floyo 1.2 is the best 2.2 rom. no matter what i flash i always end up coming back to it.
I'm using Elelinux's latest Hero ROM, which is very smooth and stable so far. Also, since it's based on CM7 (Android 2.3), you can theme the hell out of it if you like.
Compared to the FroydVillains I've used in the past it maybe isn't quite as fast, but the difference is minimal. Although if you really need some speed, this 2.2-based rom is probably the way to go.
Try some of the latest Gingerbread ROMs. Very smooth and good battery life. If you absolutely must have Froyo, you're not going to find much that improves on what you've already got.

Cronos is another good Gingerbread ROM as well.
my choice:
2.1 : Sense rom for sure, elelinux's repack is good
2.2 : floyo 1.2, really great!
2.3 : elelinux's one, but with andriod 2.3.2 or before
going to try out the new android 2.3 with sense! hope i will stick on it after
you could try out the wildfire port of gingerbread with sense 2.1. its really cool and quite smooth!
Nothing better than nightly CyanogenMod 7.1! No more invisible menus and it is fast loading ^^

[Q] Best for Eris - Froyo or Gingerbread?

I need to root and then update my wife's Eris to try to make it run a little bit better. I already use CM7 on my Incredible, but I know the Incredible is a much faster and more powerful phone than the Eris.
So I wanted to ask: Of the rooted ROMS here, which runs better on the Eris - Froyo or Gingerbread? (Better being faster and/or more stable)? Based on that, which ROM would y'all recommend for her phone? Again, I am looking for something that is stable, at least as fast as the old 2.1 version she is using (if possible), and allows her to run newer software without issues.
Any help appreciated. I want to get her on an updated ROM ASAP. Thanks!
/Tom
Gingerbread ROMS have always ran a lot better on my phone than froyo. They just seem to be much more smooth and snappier. Shed's GSB 3.5 is probably about as stable a ROM as your gonna find. The only issue is the camera only has 2x zoom and not the full 9x it is capable of. I think that is a CM issue but I'm not sure.

Wrong forum, but...
There is no one answer to your question, the Eris is too quirky.... not all run the same ROM the same way. So, play around, there are many good ROMs here; the devs and community are great!

I first had XtrSense (Eclair) , then GSB (gingerbread) now i'm using TheRom (froyo). Its pretty snappy compared to the others and I haven't had any issue yet
I have to agree with ianoob, roms run better on some phones than others. If she likes using sense then I recommend gin-sen-tazz. It's a great ROM and running stable on my old refurb Eris.

I'm on condemned cm7 and its great and has the 9x zoom on the camera. It's fast, stable. I personally would try both froyo and gingerbread and see what your wife likes better.

Like others said, you have to figure out what works best for you. I haven't had any good luck with any of the GB roms, but instead I've been using CELB Froyo or the XTR roms (2.1)
my two cents: i have my brother-in-law's old eris (he "upgraded" to an incredible). i've had it for 2 weeks and am running Workshed's GSB 3.5. If he could, my brother-in-law would trade me phones in a heartbeat. it's a trade i wouldn't make.
my wife has my mom's old eris. she hated it (running stock 2.1). i put GSB 3.5 on it yesterday and now she's raving over it. makes her think about not getting an iphone with her next upgrade (and she's a mac person to start with).
no experience with froyo, but i can't say enough about Workshed's work. it's phenomenal
No experience with Froyo, but GSB 3.5 runs well on my Eris. I also heard Froyo doesn't run the best on Eris.

Still, all these devs do amazing work.

I really have had great luck with GinTazz and FroyoTazz. Also think xtrSense is awesome if u want more stock minus the bloat and its superfast too... I really love GinSenseTazz too just wwaiting for bt fix in stable build.
Sent from my Suckiest Rom Ever using XDA App
Any of the AOSP roms ran FAR better than a Froyo ever did on mine. Better batter life, faster, etc.
Gingerbread
Ive tested almost all the roms available for eris and I think the gingerbread based roms run a lot faster and smoother than the froyo based roms. My favorite is gin-sen-tazz.
The first custom rom I flashed was KaosFroyo v39. Compared with the stock system, this was a major improvement. Very snappy & responsive, without all the bloatware. After a while though, Kaos stopped updating the rom. I'm not sure why, but things seemed to slow down after a while - the noticeable increase in performance I received from KaosFroyo seemed to decline. Still, an overall solid Froyo rom.
A few weeks back, I loaded GSB v3.5 (Gingerbread) & have been very impressed. Upgraded to v3.6 & haven't looked back since. That rom, combined with Cache2Cache & the v6 Supercharger have made this phone perform better than it ever has for me. I'm holding off on the v3.7 update for now just to see if there's any major bugs/flaws, but I don't expect any - workshed has done a great job!
As others have mentioned, each phone seems to perform differently, but this setup has been tits for me. Thanks to all the developers!!
ginger bread
Gingerbread - Macrom is running the best on mine. I also believe that phones seem to "like" some ROMs more than others, but the Gingerbread ROMs that are out are all great.
I'm like most, I prefer the AOSP gingerbread roms. I would probably try Condemned, MacrRoms, and GSB. I don't like the Sense Roms, but that's just me. GinTazz with sense and gingerbread ran very well, but my preference is LauncherPro.
GSB (GingerShedBread) v3.7 - CM-7.1.0 RC1. Been running this on my mothers phone months and it came back from the dead. Quick, good battery life, and stable. I also ran this on my OG droid and im now running CM7 on my thunderbolt. Try a few different ROMs and see what works best for the user and the phone. good luck
Rick
I had camera issues with GinSenTazz, like it was tracing around the edges of objects. Not that it's Tazz's fault, its just when you throw Sense into the mix, it adds a whole new layer of possible problems you have to resolve.
I like Gin-Sen-Tazz a lot. It's stable, but has a few kinks that are still getting worked out. GSB is my fave though. That has been my main rom since feb. You can't ask for a better rom.

Recommend ultra stable rom please

A work colleague has come to me and asked about the "low memory" warning she keeps getting on her Hero. She is annoyed at having to delete apps all the time.
I'm thinking I want to root it for her, so she can have A2SD, but she is not at all technically inclined.
I need an ultra stable rom that I can flash and forget, I don't want her coming back to me about it.
Also the phone is a laggy POS on the standard 2.1 rom - any speed and battery life improvements would be welcomed!
Personally I would want an AOSP rom, but she used to Sense :-/
Recommendations, please?
Sent from my 'Zed, overclocked to 1.2ghz
VR 13 - overclock to maybe 600MHz for extra speed without sacrificing much battery life.
For the sense roms, it's best to stick with the android 2.1 roms like VR or Elelinux 2.1.
The AOSP 2.2 roms are also stable and both speedmachine, Floyo (1.2) or Froydvillain are really stable.

Gingerbread-Sense ported from Salsa to hero, being updated under serious work and becoming more stable everytime.
In case she gets convinced about the AOSP:

A lot of people suggest Cronos ROMs, but i really never gave that a shot, but i say you also look into that!
most of Elelinux's rom is the best. try it.
