Browser issues - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently purchased an Atrix 4g, for the most part I have adapted to the Android OS pretty well. Since I got my phone one problem has plagued me, I cannot view most websites in desktop format. Most of the time I am being forced to view websites in mobile format.
I have done plenty of research and have come to the conclusion that I need to change my user agent settings. Armed with that knowlegde I downloaded Dolphin HD and switched to desktop mode. Nothing has changed. I just want to see gizmodo.com with flash.

AFAIK dolphin doesn't support flash
Use opera mobile 11 or the stock browser itself for flash support and at the bottom click full site to view it
And opera also allows changing user agents

Gizmodo hasn't had a full site link in a very long time.
If I turn off the mobile view on opera it still redirects me to m.gizmodo.com
To test your solution I went to m.gizmodo.com on my desktop and I still don't see a full site link.
Were you referring to the Mobile view on off switch on opera?

Actually, stick with Dolphin HD. Setting your user agent works. But what you need to do is you have to clear all your browser data. Go into advanced settings in Dolphin and checkmark everything in the clear data section so you can start with a clean slate. The next time you go to Gizmodo, you'll be redirected to the desktop site instead of m.gizmodo.com. You're being directed to the mobile site despite your user agent because your browser has cached data.

Skyfire browser. Short and sweet... set into desktop mode. Then your good to go!
Skyfire supports flash, bo problem, its small/quick like the builtin browser.
if you visited a site and were already set to android/mobile view, and are stuck in mobile view land... clear your Skyfire cache/history.
Poop
early android had about:debug options for the builtin browser for making firefox like under-the-hood changes to ones browser... but google put the kybosh (sp?) on that! Maybe we'll see it come back in future versions!?!? Anyway. Happy browsing!
Oh, and congratz on ditchn your apple-fanboy life-style! Maturing to manhood (aka AndFreakn) sure does feel nice! ;-)

Nope, that didn't work either. I even cleared out the history. How do you clear the cache? Also, is this an Atrix problem?
P.S. for how awesome android is supposed to be, it sure does suck at loading desktop friendly websites. I have this really old a ****ty phone called the iphone 3g that can do it. As of today I have downloaded; firefox, opera, dolphin HD, and skyfire. Im not a big fan right now.

That didn't work either, I switched to desktop and cleared all browser data. Its still m.gizmodo.com

Btw, I found a solution on the iphone forum. They said to simply go to
ca.gizmodo.com. The only problem is that its not actually the current site, its the older one.

xScope browser 6. The fastest and most customizable imo.

Ill give it a try.

In conclusion, it is not possible to view gizmodo.com on an android phone. I notified Gawker of my troubles and they confirmed my suspicions. The new version of their website won't load. They said a solution would be coming in a few months. Thanks for the browser btw. Its like chrome and I prefer it over most.

I'm highly upset about this. Although the mobile site is faster to load and saves bandwith (when running on data netowrks of course) I still love viewing the full site on my phone.
Since they did this I visit the site less and less; it's a shame :/

I honestly hate the redesign, and still use the uk.***.com or ca.***.com versions of the sites, which load the old design, and should still work on mobile devices. (Though unfortunately io9 does not have a uk or ca page for some odd reason) Also, have you tried the addon for Dolphin HD that has the 1 button desktop/mobile user agent switcher? It has worked for me quite well on Hulu.

[Q] Force the Streak to open full site not mobile

As the Streak has a big enough screen, is there a way to force it to open a full site rather than the mobile version?

Bring up a Google page and at the bottom of the web page it says view Google in MOBILE/CLASIC just click clasic
Moving to Q&A
Does that just apply to Google?
Alternate Browser
Skyfire, dolphin and xscope have an inbuilt function to allow you choose how your browser is identified, I think one of them lets you choose iphone/android/pc but not sure
If you are using the "built in" browser, write this:
about:debug
Now in settings you should have the option of changing the UAString to:
Android
Desktop
IPhone
This change, unfortunately is not permanent (at least not in O2s' 2.2 rooted Streak) and you'll have to do the same again whenever you exit the browser.
I wish that it could be changed permanently though.
Brilliant work, albeit temporary.
Miren Browser allows you to set the user agent.
Menu->Settings->Advanced->Web Page->User Agent
You can select Chrome Desktop, iPhone3 or 4, iPad.

Force stock browser not to load mobile versions?

The stock browser on my galaxy s2 does not seem to have an option not to load the mobile versions of webpages. It's quite annoying, e.g. mobile Google checkout does not allow editing payment methods.
This is android gingerbread onwhere mod based on Chinese firmware.

In browser type in, about:useragent
Then choose desktop
Otherwise use Opera Mobile and under the advanced menu select Desktop, I know this method works perfectly no more mobile sites with Opera Mobile
thank you for solving this problem for me. It's been bugging me ever since I got the phone and the only negative issue I've experienced mainly because I've not had time to have a good old geek weekend just playing with it whilst pretending to look painfully efficient using phrases like "work hard, play hard and 24/7" It sounds like I'm a f***ing Mars Bar.
bluppfisk, do you have a location for that onwhere firmware? The only site I can find it on is in Chinese and I can't seem to download from it.
It doesn't work, the about:useragent option reverts back to "custom"

As soon as you Exit the browser it will be reset to Custom. Permanent fix you could do from here,

I can't set my brain for it anyway.

What Browsers do not have problem in search this forum here??

Surprised me not a lot of posts on this problem here.
I have been unable to use the stock browser to do the "search in this forum" here with my Transformer and Transformer Prime. I tried the ICS Browser+, and the Xscope. They are all the same - When I click on the "Search in This Forum" button, the dialogue box and the keyboard show up It does not matter what keyboard I use, be it the Asus keyboard or my favorite Thumb keyboard, the keyboard just disappear faster than I can type.
I researched here and someone has this problem back to 2010 or 2011...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950030
Well, well, well, by accident, I found the browser that does what it should do today, it is the Firefox. Well, it is not the fastest browser. So my question is, what browser you use that can do this "search in this forum"?
Don't tell me to us Tapatalk or the XDA developer app, or use my PC though, I am talking browser for Transformer...
I had problems galore with stock browser. Installed Dolphin browser and everything works beautifully now. The speed is greatly improved as well.
Why not use the xda app?
Oops just read your post lol

Dolphin doesn't fix it for me
Yep, very annoying. I usually just click on advanced search so that a new window pops up. It is this way on my phone in gingerbread as well.

My bionic does it as well. It seems like a lot of sites are making it much harder for mobile mobile users to use the full site. I absolutely hate mobile sites so I browse in desktop mode and many sites that worked just fine now require me to switch over to mobile veiw to post or search and some will not even allow any interaction anymore and where perfect just a few months ago. I rarely use rootzwiki since it changed and I have to constantly switch between desktop and mobile veiw to do anything.

There needs to be a web browser designed for Android tablets

or PC browser ported to Android tablets because I'm tired of getting redirected to mobile phone friendly pages of websites when my Transformer Prime has the same resolution as my 12.1" laptop and thus is capable of displaying websites at the same size.
Why does it look like there's nothing being done about this?
Why does this browser even give off the detail to websites as if the system it's operating on is a mobile phone. There should least be a way to turn this feature off. I'm annoyed by it.
Lots of browsers in the market allow you to disable the mobile version. E.g. ics+ browser.

+1 ICS browser+ is great desktop view option owns!
Problem solved. Downloaded the Dolphin browser from the Marketplace.
This browser looks amazing and is loaded with features. I've already set it to my default browser. The default ICS browser even makes Internet Explorer seem amazing.
HAHAHAHA
Maybe better then IE8. On par with IE9 i would say.
Boat Browser is the best one out there by far imo.
Once you try xScope you stop trying the other ones.
xScope is my favorite and I've tried them all

this. I have tried several browsers, none looked and felt as great as Boat
It's all about Firefox Mobile. Give it a try, the awesome tablet UI and plethora of extensions just can't be beat.

There's the great ICS+ improved by a fellow XDA developers member, great stuff indeed.

Desktop browsing with Stock Browser - no additional software needed
If you would prefer the Desktop view of websites, rather than the Mobile view, then there is an easy way to change it without using any third party app.
Open the standard browser and type about:debug into the browser's address bar. Then go to Menu > Settings. You should have a new option called Debug. Press Debug, then on the right side press UAstring and change the option to Desktop.
Websites should now be displayed as they would on a computer desktop browser.
Other options are: iphone, ipad, android (default), honeycomb.
Thanks..

Try this:
1) Make a new shortcut to a website (doesn't matter which one, this is just a workaround)
2) Edit that newly created shortcut, make the URL point to 'about:useragent' (without the quotes)
3) If you click on the shortcut nothing will happen. BUT if you now click on the addres bar of the browser the URL should be there. Just press enter.
4) Select the client you want your device to mimic
This doesn't save the client, so you will have to repeat steps 3 & 4 every time you restart the browser. But is a tiny bit more comfortable than editing a configration file I think

How do you turn off facebook mobil version?

I've tried everything! Different browsers, settings within FB, even disabled FB app.
Any help will be appreciated..
I'm having the same issue. I use dolphin and it's set to desktop. Then in browser I open Facebook.com and go to bottom left and click desktop and it keeps reverting back to mobile version.
I use Opera Mobile. Have the options set to desktop. Facebook comes up just as it would on my laptop. Never shows the mobile version.

I use Dolphin too. UNFORTUNATELY, you'll have to toggle the desktop top switch every time the mobile version tries to load.
1. Load the Facebook page.
2. When you see m.facebook.com in the browser, immediately stop the load.
3. Toggle the desktop switch to Android mode and then right back to Desktop mode.
4. Type the letter 'F' which should pull up the desktop version of Facebook if you were ever able to access it. If not, go into the browser bar and edit out the 'm.' in the mobile Facebook web address and then load the page.
Change from mob
You have to open your browser and open the menu. Make sure that view desktop site has a check next to it.

Try using Google Chrome. It's not as feature packed or convenient like Dolphin, but it won't give you Facebook mobile issues either.

It has nothing to do with the phone itself. It's facebook's ungodly coding that causes the issue. It probably isn't triggering a cookie that reminds the site to load in desktop version. You can confirm this by trying to do the same on any other mobile site (try Android Police) you'll see it sticks
What will work 100% of the time is what someone mentioned above: setting your user agent (if your browser allows you to) as something like Mozilla. This tricks the website into thinking you're on desktop and never even knows you're on a mobile site.
I downloaded Opera browser as suggested above and I don't have any problems anymore.
Opera browser is pretty sweet BTW

I think the issue is either with the phone or SENSE. I still have my EVO 3D and the Samsung Galaxy S2. Both of those phones are still running on Gingerbread and neither one of them have Facebook mobile issues.
