Hello,
I am running a gTab with TNT Lite 4.4 and Launcher Pro. I like the setup very much (thanks to all the help found here), but am having problems trying to find an alarm clock app I can set up the way I like.
Ideally, I want an alarm that will open Pandora at a specified time. Barring that, I'd be happy with an app that started the alarm from sleep mode. I don't like leaving the display on all night, even if it's in the "dim" or "night mode". However, it seems that the minute I put the gTab to sleep, the clock stops ticking and the alarm doesn't go off until you wake up the device (the wake updates the clock to the actual time).
Am I nuts, or is there some kind of bug? Are there alarms that will wake up the tablet from sleep? So far I've tried "Alarm Clock Plus" and "AppAlarm Pro" without success.

This is a bug without doubt - what is the point of an alarm that
you have to turn on
YOu might try some of those keepalive programs in the market, but
my experience is that, like most android apps (and android itself
for that matter), they don't really work perfectly.
Here's what I've come up with so far. It seems to be working, although with some caveats.
I installed "Load Monitor" and enabled what they call "Wake Lock" which, according to the FAQ, prevents the tablet from going into a deep sleep. It seems to allow the clock to keep accurate time while screen is off. It also might help people's WiFi issues. I don't know the effect on battery life, but plugging it in while it's on the nightstand isn't a problem.
I've found that Pandora needs to be closed, not paused. Sometimes it'll work when paused, but not always.
I would be happy to hear anyone else suggestions as I'm certainly disappointed in how this is working.
EDIT: Also, you need to have the volume turned up loud enough manually. If you let the app set the volume, it's never loud enough.
App alarm pro is what I use on my phone. It can restart the app if you were using the night before. I use it to wake to Howard on the Sirius XM app and the developer is friendly and responsive. I haven't tried it on the gtab yet as my night stand isn't that big!

I am getting frustrated with this as I have been late two times last two weeks because the alarm clock has not activated.
The phone is on (witch is stupid, should be able to wake up and ring as every old phone is capable of doing) but it is on, the alarm sound is adjusted to the highest level and still sometimes for no reason it does not ring! The alarm is still active (one time alarm) when I wake up 1-2h later so nothing has happened, it just skipped to ring.
Is there a remedy for this because it is a MAJOR problem. I don't want to have to buy a alarm clock for that job, it is a smartphone for crying out loud and my stupid 10 year old nokia does this without any problems 100% reliable...
When you use app such as taskkiller and kill clock process then alarm will not ring. Before going sleep restart your phone and dont touch taskkiller. Or add clock to ignored list.
go to clock settings>alarms and click on one alarm which you want...let's say first one..you will see numbers, description, alarm sound...etc
click alarm sound and instead of clicking a tone, just click the side button (volume) and you will seethe green bar as if you were changing your ringer volume...just set it to desired level
and note that this has nothing to do with phone being in vibrate or silent mode..it will ring regardless
i had the same issue until i figured out how to deal with it
and trust me...the phone itself ad the alarm are reliable
I agree with both of these answers.
I had exactly the same problem before i added the clock to the ignore list. It will still show the alarm as activated, but it will not ring.
Do both and you should be fine.
shutting down third party apps with a task manager is one thing , but leave the pre-installed android apps alone. they're running for a reason, dammit
Thanks guys you were right the taskkiller did kill the alarm, it appeared still to be active in the settings and icon in the notification bar (that confused me) but the alarm did not go off. Added it to the whitelist and tested a couple of times - worked fine!
Why does it not work when turned off? The clock keeps the time while the phone is off, so it seems natural that the alarm would also work - maybe a 2.1 update? Older phones would power up for the alarm..
Thanks again!
it's just not something that works on HTCs. They're designed to be on all the time.
i use advanced task killer free and everything works..no problem with such things...
i switched to ATK because taskiller seemed to consume too much memory
i tried ATK while taskiler was on and i had ...25-30 mb less memory then i uninstalled taskiller and got those back....
strange...how can a utility consume so much ram

show me a single smartphone that does this...
you are confusing cellphones and smartphones here. smartphones are designed to be on all the time, that is why they invented the airplane mode.
take it easy please,be friendly and try not to sound rude

Has anyone else been having problems with the stock alarm clock on the Galaxy S4? Mine seems to be unreliable. Goes off one morning, but not the next. But is random when it works and doesn't.
Current settings:
Android: 4.2.2
Carrier: Verizon
Time: 7am
Days: MTWTF
Repeat Weekly: Checked
Alarm type: Vibration and Melody
Alarm tone: Journey
Sound: Maxed
Location alarm: off
Snooze: off
Smart alarm: off
In "menu" outside that section I have "voice control" off.
Not rooted, no other ROM. Just default, stock Verizon Galaxy S4.
Before I go to bed I double check to make sure my alarm is on and sound is at the max (not in vibration or silent mode). Power saving mode is "off". I have no task killers. I do close all my apps using the default android task manager. But then I turn the alarm clock back on because I'm paranoid. But none of this seems to help.
I've tried factory reset, that didn't seem to help as it still sometimes goes off and sometimes doesn't. I have not tried any other alarms than the stock one. I will be trying one (any suggestions?) and updating this to let you know if it worked. But until then, it would be cool to see if I'm not the only one having this issue and to see if anyone else has solved this!
Thanks!

I use the alarm every day as well, and have not had a problem with it not going off. Are you using one of the stock alarm tones, or a custom song/sound? I have used both without issues, but if you're using something other than a stock tone, maybe try one of those to see if it's an issue with your audio file.
Edit: I see that it's called "Journey" so that may be a stock tone. I guess I'm not sure then

Correct, the alarm tone I'm using is a stock tone. It's woken me up before, so I don't think I'm sleeping through it haha. My only guess is my phone is somehow going into a low power state that's not updating the time every minute, therefore the alarm time is sometimes getting skipped and therefore not getting triggered. I just don't know what would be causing this as I have "power saving mode" off and I haven't ran into any other settings that would do this... I do plug my phone in overnight too, so you'd think it would be going full force anyway. But I just recently switched from iOS so I'm still a bit new to the android side of things .

Have you tried running some daytime tests to see if it rings on time? The clock on the lockscreen may only update when the screen is on, but the phone always knows what time it is. If you can get it to skip alarms reliably, maybe take it to a Verizon store and have them swap it out. I've used my cell phone as an alarm for quite a few years (I have a backup as well, but only because I'm pretty good at shutting alarms off in my sleep) and the only times I had trouble was with older phones when I was rooted and running a less-than-stable custom roms.

I did run various tests throughout the day yesterday, have a few set for today too. All went off fine so far. The stock alarm woke me up this morning too. Maybe I just had to break it in haha. I'm worried it will skip again, though, so I'm using my desktop as a backup alarm clock, lol. If it does skip I will more than likely take it to Verizon, as this doesn't seem normal. Haven't tried any non-stock alarm clock apps yet. Guess I should look for a good backup app just in case eh.
No problems here. Use everyday on Stock ROM

I ended up switching to an app called "Timely". I have had zero issues with myself ever not hearing this app or it not going off. Even if the phone is on vibrate or silent.

yes it's really unreliable not only in your 4.2 s4. it often doesnt go off on my s3 mini too. just download another one.
I was just gonna say I've never had a problem with the stock alarm...and what do you know, this morning it didn't go off. I always wake up no matter how loud or quiet the alarm is so I'm fairly certain I didn't sleep through it.

The main reason I got the smartband was to use it as an alarm clock. So far it hasn't been able to wake me up even once.
Either the vibration is just too damn weak, or I'm a very heavy sleeper.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and is it possible to increase the vibration somehow?

does it vibrate well when you get txt message or phone rings? have you enabled alarm in smardband settings?
Not possible to increase, but from my experience the vibration wakes me up well.

Same vibration all around, so doesn't seem to be something wrong with the alarm. Also tested the alarm during the day to make sure it works, which it does, so it looks like this is about me sleeping too heavy or something.
Bummer.
I'm a heavy sleeper, my wife can attest to that, but it has woken me up every day!

Checkout the "Smart wake up" option; see if you have that option turned on.
I don't claim to understand how the feature works; but it says "SMart wake-up wakes you up when you are sleeping lightly". I'm assuming this feature prevents the watch to wake you up through the alarm feature, if you're in a deep sleep?
Do you have the SmartBand tight enough on your wrist?
As far as detecting light/deep sleep I'm not sure how advanced that feature really is.. beyond making an educated guess based on movement patterns that is.
I did try making it tighter, and today it actually woke me up. Downside is it leaves a nice imprint on my wrist. But I can live with that.

It does, but the smartband isn't very reliable when detecting sleep at all from my experience, so I don't really trust it detecting light vs. heavy sleep either.
However, the smart wakeup feature will always vibrate when set up. If you have looked at the description you may have noticed that it's not a set time point, but an interval. It basically should check for light sleep, and wake you up as soon as detected, but at the latest at the determined end of the interval regardless of sleep.

Well I use my smartband as an alarm and it has never failed to wake me up. I use the small band with the last slot left open (the end slot), you must be a very heavy sleeper (I thought I was a heavy sleeper, reaching the record of 13 hours of sleep)

Hi there,
I'm not finding much of anything regarding the glitch I'm experiencing with my watch. A few days ago I noticed my battery draining really, really quickly (i.e. before lunch it was almost dead). The watch is no longer automatically going into ambient mode. If and when the screen turns on, it stays on until I either place my palm over it or put it into theater mode. If I force it into ambient mode by placing my palm over it, it doesn't take very much to wake it back up and then I have to start over again. I know it's an issue with the screen because I wear it at night as a sleep tracker and it stays in theater mode all night and drains normally (i.e. about 10%). Also, that's what the battery stats indicate. Is anyone else experiencing this issue and has anyone come across a fix? I'm wondering if it's a glitch with 6.0.1. Before you ask, I've already tried a factory reset.
Cheers,
Chad

Same experience! I think it came with the newest update, as I did not have this problem before.
A work around is to restart the watch, after that it is normal again, until something triggers that bad behavior. I don't know what it is.
I think I found the culprit.
Try the following:
Restart the watch
-> ambient mode is working properly.
Use the default alarm clock, no matter if you use "OK Google" or set it manually, alarm clock rings - > no ambient mode anymore.
At least for me the alarm clock is the problem.
Please tell me your results @chaddesch
Edit: There was an update of the Google alarm clock a few minutes ago, it it works again as expected.

Yeah, I think you're right about it being the alarm clock. I realized this morning that the watch behaves oddly when the alarm clock wakes it while the watch is in theater mode (which it always is while I'm sleeping). I'm not sure if the problem is truly resolved now, and restarting didn't work for me in the past, but it does seem to be working normally now. Thanks for the reply.

The default android/google alarm clock app does the same to my watch and prevents ambient mode everytime the alarm goes off until I restart the watch.
A really good Alarm clock app that you can install is not available in the Playstore but it is the one made for the Asus Zenphone and it is actually required to turn on the cover watch to mute alarm feature. You can sideload it onto your phone by downloading it from here

I intend to let the sleep tracking trigger the alarm to wake me up at the time when my sleep is lightest. But the question is, is it strong enough to let the wearer wakeup from sleep?
IMO, no.
The watch's vibration is too weak for me
even in its highest setting
I wish there were some way to make it stronger.
i've just set 5 alarms in a one minute interval, and it somehow works for me
Wakes me up first time every time I've used it (other than when the battery died overnight) - though I highly recommend having a backup alarm fire a minute or so later just in case
Waking up from vibration is much nicer than a noise I find
How did you make your watch work to automatically wake you up? I have just written about it via "feedback" so they could work on that feature and I found out this thread afterwards. So there is already a workaround? It works already?
