[Q] Disable bugreports from Volume Up / Volume Down? - Android

Hi,
before you chop my head off, please listen
I did a lot of (google and xda) searching and i indeed found some useless discussions in Q&A section a.k.a. "what is that" "can i delete that" yada yada yada... . I know what it is, but i wanna disable it. And in Q&A obviously not that many capable ppl/cooks take a look. Thats the reason why i post here...
As this is not rom-related (happens with(out) sense roms on 2.2 and 2.3), i wonder if it's some default kernel routine, which can be altered. Or maybe just some textual setting in a config file?
As this is kinda annoying, if you use the dhd in a silicon case, where the two buttons are hit very often simultaniously, a solution would be great.
Any ideas?
thx in advance
angelus

what are you talking about? what do you mean happens when pressing vol up + vol down? on my phone nothing happens.

hi,

hitting both buttons the same time, it vibrates, takes some time to generate a 2-4mb bugreport on /sdcard/bugreports , vibrates 2 times again when its finished.
meanwhile the dhd is completly laggy and not to be used, which is annoying when you get it out of your pocket just to type a text or answer a call
also happens if screen is off. i am currently on cm7 nightly #36
greetz

i didn't checked if it creates a bug report but i never had my phone laggy when i pressed that two. just tested it. it even does not vibrate.
never had it on stock neither on my current leedroid 2.2.2 or any prvious leddroid rom.

Pressing the two buttons (vol +/-) creates a bug report on Mighty Nutella (CM7).. never noticed this though

Disable debugging mode

Still doing bugreports if usb debug is disabled... already tried that.

If you disable it your phone will probably get laggy due to the buggy init process

i don't know of cm7 but in the latest stock and also in several custom roms this has been already fixed for long time.
but on custom roms you may hit a different problem without usb debugging: it can happen that you get bootloops after rebooting without usb debugging on.

unfortunately this is going exactly the q&a direction, where i didnt wanna go. check the links in #3, there is everything mentioned you posted so far.
maybe a developer/cook can take a look at it or has an opinion.
thx.

Would be nice to know if this can be disabled. I have the same problem with the gel case putting pressure on both buttons when I pull it out of my pocket. Even worse is when its got both volume buttons pressed and I press Power to wake the screen. Instant reboot.
I know this is by design, but like the OP, I would also like to know if it can be disabled.

hmm, funny... after some more trys i managed to get the same behaviour
but it doesn't happen allways. in my case it is quite difficult to reproduce it, but possible.

Let me just point the OP to Chef Central for this. Obviously this is a Chef/dev question, and it's likely occurring on multiple devices.
Thread will be moved there.

so thats why it always vibrates by itself!
somebody please find a way to disable this! All those bugreports had 1gb of space used!!! obviously deleted now but before I was wondering why i had such a small amount of space..

Yep i can confirm that as well, CM7 latest nightly, it's annoying because you are listening to music it's a in a phone sock, you go to press a button to turn it up, you press both by accident, **** hits the fan.

I have also just come across this issue when my favourite Huawei u8150 custom rom was updated to Kernel v2.2.2 ported from a Huawei u8180.
I have worked out a quick and dirty fix and so far is works without any issues. Check my post below for full details.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15429103&postcount=242

Somewhere, in your BOOT.IMG, there's an ".rc" file with these rows:
Code:
# bugreport is triggered by the KEY_VOLUMEUP and KEY_VOLUMEDOWN keycodes or triggered by projectmenu
service bugreport /system/bin/dumpstate -d -v -o /sdcard/bugreports/bugreport
user root
disabled
oneshot
keycodes 115 114
I simply deleted the last one and bugreport is not annoying LEANdroid's users anymore!
ps. I also modified the description row in this way:
Code:
# bugreport is triggered by projectmenu

ICS Collective BASE4

Okay so I took the plunge and installed my first ROM (ICS Collective Base4) among other things with my SGH-I717M (Bell). Everything went very well and here are the issues that despite reading over 500 pages in threads related to these issues, I have not been able to solve them (workarounds, sure). I'm hoping that others can confirm these glitches and whether or not they have been able to remedy them:
-Upon boot, "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". Annoying, but doesn't seem to affect anything. No workaround or solution.
-Baseband "unknown". Tried ODIN flash install AND coming from completely stock phone via CWM flash, neither has remedied this problem. Doesn't seem to affect anything so don't really care.
-Stock calendar application missing - really don't like some of the other calendars, but I can't seem to find the APK file in any other ICS ROM's out there, so I gave up on this. So workaround, no solution.
-Time zone wrong. Workaround is to deselect automatic network management and select the correct timezone. Reverts back to incorrect upon rebooting so apparently only a workaround and no solution.
-Upon booting setCPU max/min speeds are incorrect and you have to open the application for it to correct the speeds. Perhaps it's just the widget that's broken, but for now it's a workaround and I can't seem to figure out a solution. Quandrant benchmarks seem to indicate that if I don't do this, the performance is affected as if the speeds are 1242max/384min and not 1512max/384min.
-Phone freezes on "Power Off", have to hold power button - camera flash goes off and then restarts. Workaround seems to be to use terminal emulator or other applications to reboot, etc. Don't know if there's a solution to this.
-Wallpaper incorrectly zooms - workaround: market applications. No solution that I can find yet.
-Unrelated to the ROM, but V6 Supercharger - I can only get it to report 50% supercharged, even after modifying my services.jar file and following all "step 8" instructions (that was an undertaking!!!). Don't know what's up there, but maybe some of you super-techs have figured it out.
-Only 624MB of RAM available instead of 700MB+ with GB. Haven't heard anything about why this is, so no solution or workaround.
-Doesn't seem to be an ICS keyboard available? I think this can just be installed from the market but I haven't tried it so not sure.
I'm sure there's other things like with Swype, tethering, etc.. etc... that are not working but this is just what I've noticed within the last 8 hours of flashing and trying to set-up and configure. Any comments or helpful suggestions for a n00b like me?
Thank you for any and all feedback. Thank you to all the developers working hard on this fresh release to bring us a solid ROM!

Remember, this is a leaked firmware, these bugs are within that leak itself and a few of these issues have been addressed (unknown baseband, etc..) And will be fixed when we release the actual full ROM. this is just the base we shared in the mean time. A few are still present likesome settings not sticking through boot, and the power menu hanging.
Ithink is ur phone acting weird. Only the setcpu speeds not sticking and issue about wallpaper which can easily be fixed by using quicpics are the two issues my phone had. Just dnt use any cpu controller i noticed phone goes to sleep when no cpu controller while when there is cpu controller screen off speed sticks to 384 or 192

Absolutely. And considering what I've read about previously leaked versions of Android over the years, this one performs like a champ. Can't wait to see what comes out next, but I figured from what I've read this one works well enough to go the distance and install. Thanks again collective!

Yeah, just thought I would put my experience out there if it helps anyone or if someone could help me lol. It's very likely some of these are isolated problems, but most of them are problems with the leaked version. I uninstalled setCPU because I think you're right, something likes to nom nom the battery when the screen is off.
Oh and here's something odd which I don't know if anyone else has experienced with ICS or GB, but Terminal Emulator doesn't allow me to type anything unless I capitalize each individual letter. Which of course is useless because it can't accept commands in caps. When I press any key in lowercase it's like I haven't done anything. I had to switch to the pen mode where I scribe each letter and then it puts lowercase letters in for me. Anyone know what's up with this?
This is probably not the best Rom to run for your first flash. I would try one of the official releases in the development thread, unless you are an official tester for The Collective...
Can't wait till they release an official ROM ...

I had that issue in GB... In ICS it seems to be intermittent- sometimes it just works others it doesn't...
And regarding the baseband, not sure about the Collective rom, but DAGr8's ICS rom displays the modem correctly on my Bell Note.
I also had the timezone issue- strangely enough when I disabled network time and timezone, I also stopped get random slowdowns and ANRs.

We've got the baseband unknown issue fixed in the full ROM. We just haven't released it. Still working on a couple things before we're comfortable sharing.
Hi, here are my thoughts;
1. Flash a CWM ICS modem(fixed it for me). If you cant find a modem use Dagr8's inital version of the ICS leak, it will successfully flash the modem(unlike the initial collective version(post 501 thread). The main point is to ensure you have the correct baseband(should not say unknown).
2. For now, dont supercharge the ICS leak until you have a stable running OS.
3. After fixing the baseband unknown issue(#1), reflash the collective post 501 ICS rom. It is stable, and the cleanup of the bloat was started already.
4. After installing #3, factory reset your phone.
At this point you should have a bloated, but error free ICS on your computer. Make a CWM backup, install titanium backup, and rip out the junk APK's(widgets, samsung/att garbage). Doing this will provide longer battery life and better performance.
No other wipe scripts are needed.
Factory reset BEFORE flash. The cwm script in the zip itself formats /system and /cache before it writes anything.
And the baseband unknown thing isn't a big deal. Its not that you don't have a modem at all, everything still works you get mobile data, its just the os doesn't properly report it.
if you like what you got, i say sit tight, we're working on the full ROM. You won't be disappointed

Would be cool if you guys could make a minimalistic style rom without all the makeup and cosmetics and focused on performance
We think its cooler to do BOTH
Cause the guys at Samsung must have left their seeing eye dogs at home when it came time to theme
most of us don't usually do minimalistic... once a stable rom gets out you can expect a variety of themes. Sit tight.

Really looking forward to the the fully packaged version. Not experiencing problems with cpu speed set on boot.
Face unlock not work properly yet. Device hangs on reboot as reported. Auto update time bug exists. Baseband version unknown. Phone crashes on initial boot. But recovers.
New voice type engine is amazing. As demonstrated here.

ICS 4.0.4 Shutdown Sequence

Does anyone else think that the Xperia Ray shutdown/poweroff sequence is a bit annoying? First, it's too long - who needs to confirm twice that they want to switch off their phone? Then it signs off by vibrating which I find really irritating - I'm a committed vibration hater!
Anyone else share this opinion and done anything to remedy the situation? If so, do let me know.
I'm sure the vibration thing's sorted out easily by removing an .apk file or something somewhere.. My Ray's rooted/locked bootloader/ ICS 4.0.4 btw.
go to general section, this is the development thread, don't open up a new thread just to ask this
This how shut down works on every single Android device I have and I really doubt it can be changed...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Sure it can be changed, I got rid of that (bloody horrible) O2 closedown animation by deleting an .apk file or two from the internal memory. Removing the shutdown vibration should be just as easy.
It's hardcoded in the operating system (probably in services.jar), it's not an apk that you could just delete
Exactly. Any animation can be deleted as it is added by the carrier or manufacturer but the vibration is there in Vanilla Android.
The length will depend on the phone specs, the ROM and the number of process the phone has to shut down (which changes from user to user) so you'll never get anything faster unless Google makes some changes.
On my Atrix running CM7, it's taking 6 to 8 seconds to shut down and the vibration is kind of a an alert saying that it all went fine. Perfect if you shut it down and then put it in your pocket : you know it shut down without having to check it. It's a feature.
Its possible to shutdown with one touch in 1 sec but its like turning off ur PC by pulling out power cable... I would not recommend since OS is saving ur present Settings for Next boot...
If u want to try then check Quickboot app from Play store.. it does the same thing...
That's fine - thanks all for the replies!

I have a few issues with my S3, help please.

As of Jul 19 2012 using Mac OS X 10.7.4:
1) Android File Transfer 1.0 (1.0.37.1389) does not see my S3 (GT-I9300 w/ ICS 4.0.4) when connected via USB using the original Samsung USB to MicroUSB cable or another cable: tried both Media Device MTP and Camera PTP modes on the phone.
Some reported the same problem on these forums. Putting the S3 in PTP mode solved it for some but it didn't for me. Anyone knows what to do please?
2) This forced me to install Kies which I know most of you dislike.
Kies will only see the S3 when connected in MTP mode.
I added pictures and music to the Kies Library and then Synced it with the S3.
I am now looking through my files on the phone itself and finding that Kies put the music ...not in /Phone/Music but in /Phone/media. And it put the pictures not under /Phone/Pictures but under the camera roll: Phone/DCIM/Camera.
Am I missing something, why is it so messy?
Cannot even specify which folder to sync stuff on the phone from Kies.
Don't want to go third-party. I want the phone and the Samsung tools to work.
3) Last, does anyone know how to take a screenshot of the lock screen?
Power + Home button doesn't work when the screen is locked.
Try power + vol down to take a screenshot of the lockscreen.
I managed to take a screenshot but the Home button and the Power button must be pressed at the SAME time.
Volume down + Power doesn't work for me.

<key1> + <key2> means that both keys must be pressed at the same time. I have a hard time believing that you never seen this before.
Well, now you know.
1+2) Also, using Kies air (to avoid installing kies on your computer) you could use file browser to put your music/pics exactly where you want it.
3) What firmware are you using? I run stock LFB and I can take screenshots of lockscreen (even when I put my password)
Edit: they should not be pressed and released but rather pressed at the same time and HELD DOWN (for about 2 seconds) until the screenshot has been taken.
It works everywhere, including the lock screen.
Yes, now I know. Thank you.

I wasn't pressing down and holding them until the screenshot is taken but releasing them thinking the release is what would trigger the shot. It isn't, rather, it is the fact that they are held down for about 2 seconds. Thanks.

Hi - no I could not.
I have given up on keeping any files on the S3. I use the iPhone 4S for anything like that.
I don't really know how everyone else manages their files (pictures/ videos taken with the phone) transfer and organization on their computer.
As you know the S3 doesn't support mass storage mode. Perhaps they just let them live in the phone and forego using a computer in conjunction with the S3. Which is possible now that the cloud storage, Facebook sharing etc. have become ubiquitous. How about music, dumping everything on a microSD card and putting it into the phone doesn't preserve the album art, neat organization/ grouping of the songs etc.
But I personally don't use any of that online crap so I would have wanted Kies to work as intended. Samsung could not get it right and I cannot believe I am not seeing more complaints about it.
I don't really know how everyone else manages their files (pictures/ videos taken with the phone) transfer and organization on their computer.
Me copy and paste phone to PC .
You wont see many complaints on here about KIES we don't use it on XDA .
Their is a new Android tool that may work for what you want .

I am also finding that the phone does not produce any DTMF tones when using the native SIP client. I am using voip.ms and callcentric.

[Q] Does Your Phone Ring?

As the title states. Those using the newest roms do your phones ring as should? Been using and always going back to Baked 6 because every newer rom I try the phone frequently does not ring. To name a few, I tried Hellybean, Slim, Carbon, Baked 8. I have tried every solution that I can find in these forums. I depend on my phone for work so it has to be reliable. Does it not bother others that the phone does not ring as should or does yours work?
I'm on Helly Bean and it rings every time... although I don't get phone calls very often at all, so maybe if I did it would miss a few. This is a common issue unfortunately and I've yet to hear of an easy solution.
Not Ringing Either
My phone doesn't ring either. Hasn't through out the whole time I've been using HellyBean. I've been searching the forums and thus far haven't found a fix. If anybody has the fix thread can you post it here, thank you. Looks like I'll have to look into another rom as suggested in the start post.
it;s probably a ROM that doesn;t get any attention but i have been using JellyBro and the ringing and notifications work fine.

Ugh, not again. Well... for what its worth, I found a way to stop losing em.
First, a little background... I discovered that the "media store" app will index ur phone's media after every reboot (as expected), but hangs before committing its findings from the temporary "wal" file to the "internal.db" database (where all ur media locations are stored). Then, when attempting to access the database while configuring ur ringtones/sounds, the media store app craps out and drops it findings altogether. Basically, the wal file disappears and the database file size decreases. So, all we have to do is force the wall file to commit before the media store drops it. Afterwards, the media store app doesn't appear to have a problem maintaining the database... even after rebooting. Definitely a bug with the app; see for urself by observing internal.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases.
Now, the workaround (ull hafta reassign all ur ringtones/sounds after this... not like they worked anyway)...
1 - Delete the contents of the folder /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases.
2 - Reboot and wait ~5 min after startup to let the media store reindex all ur media. DO NOT configure any app's ringtones/sounds just yet.
3 - In terminal, enter the following commands. You should see "x | y | z" after the checkpoint command... where x is 0 (database is ok), y is the number of modified pages, and z is the number of pages successfully committed to the database. y and z should be equal and much greater than 0. If the result is not as described, the database is probably screwed up and u were too late. Go back to step 1 and repeat.
$ su
# cd /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases
# sqlite3 internal.db
> pragma wal_checkpoint(FULL);
> .exit
# exit
$ exit
4 - Trust the workaround and start configuring ur ringtones/sounds now... or reboot again and ensure the media store database stays fixed. I recommend the latter.
5 - 3 sir!

well i'm currently on Slim 04/09 build -
previous Slim 3/17;; ParanoidAndroid March Builds;; Baked Bean, 6/7/8;;; HellyBean;;; AOKP PUB;;;
that gets me back all the way to the beginning of the year
I have had working ringtones on ALL of these as my daily use phone...
on my test phone I cant test ringtones cause [ its not activated] but notification tones for things like hangouts, twitter, gmail, etc have ALL worked without fail on every build I've loaded,,, [ which is virtually ""ALL"" the others at one point or another]
but kind of like that work around is saying I always wait after a clean/data wipe about 10 minutes [before setting ringtones] while figuring out my other settings, adding apps and what not, usually give at least 1 more reboot and wait again another 10 minutes then set ringtones,,, but I also have my 2 personal use ones [ringtone = pyxis ,,&,, Notification = cyanping] stored in a file on my sd card [a couple ROMs have not had these and I don't really care to use anything else right now] and always making sure to choose media player/server as the default app if I've wiped media storage settings data,,, [that way I can add them back into the appropriate folders if needed]
I did have this issue way back about August/September of last year running on AOKP builds, but I remember odin to stock, then THS 1/2 build then flashing to an older glitched build before the original partition changes or the later partition changes, and probably flashing new aokp,,, wiping data, etc and I got mine fixed...butt... it could have gone back to me waiting out those initial scanning times plus reboots ~ before ~ setting ringtones/data,,,
then again,,, some peoples fascinates have just given them major issues with this and they have rarely seemed to fix the problem,,, so it could be hardware tolerances and those are just really off on some setting somewhere...???
Good Luck
I really dont feel it is a ROM issue...maybe an Android issue, like the voicemail notification prompt problems [because we dont have LTE and that is coded into jb software now, so the fascinate freaks out when it cant find lte settings...]
.
---------- Post added at 05:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:38 PM ----------
you could try ,,, now that it borked on you,,, clearing out the android.providers.media / data , boot into recovery, wipe dalvik and cache partition, and reboot then wait out the time, reboot and again wait out time,,, then set ringtones,,, and try...don't know what else to say...
Thanks for the suggestions. Will try them.

[Q] [U] Update, Errors and Questions - a beginner needs your help!

Hi xda Community,
at first - BIG THANKS TO ALL OF YOU ACTIVE CUSTOM ROM GUYS!!
With all your FAQs, Videos and postings, you made it possible - and easy - for me, to get rid of the annoying Sony ROM by rooting and installing a custom rom.
Currently I am running CM10 FXP230 on my Xperia U. I know it is not a stable version, but still a great improvement in speed for me and also the first ROM i discovered during my internet research for an alternative to the slow stock sony stuff.
However, i am facing some problems during the daily usage of my phone, perhaps one of you can support me during finding a solution for some of them.
1. Updating ROM
Pretty basic question, just need a confirmaton that i understood it the right way. I download the new Version of the custom rom (e.g.fxp232), copy the zip onto the smartphone and reboot into recovery mode. There i use CMW to first wipe cache and delvik cache, then select and install new version from zip.
Correct way so far?
What about the Google Apps? Do i have to reinstall them too?
Do i have to backup the SD card data and my apps,?
2. The Camera Fix
At the beginning i thought that i could live with an inverted camera due to the fact, that i am not taking many of them with my phone. but during the last weeks i had to face the facts - its important from time to time :cyclops:
During my search in this forum i found a user linking to a file called "FXP231_CM10_CamReverse_Fix".
Does this work only with FXP231, or also earlier and later versions?
How do I install it, like gApps in CMW?
3. Alarm Clock
I am using my phone as an alarm clock almost every day. Its plugged in to recharge during the night. Sometimes the phone crashes during the night time and the alarm is not going off. The display turns dark, no reaction to any button i plress, only the little signal light at the top right is glowing constantly. I have to take out the battery every time and make the same changes in settings over and over again.
Is this the "deepsleep" problem everyone is talking about? Is it connected to the cpu settings - I did select "conservative" there. Whats causing the problem?
4. Dial Pad
Every time i am dialing an unknown number the touchpad is hardly responding. It can take up to 5 minutes to enter all numbers and dial. I already deactivated the T9 contact search, still no improvement. Anyone any similar expieriences?
5.General Custom ROM Question
During my journey through this Community I found out, that there are a lot of different roms available. Some - with only minor changes - based on other custom roms, some based on sony.....whatever. Right now i am totally confused that ROM to use (if the above mentioned problems cant be solved!!)
I just need a quiet fast and reliable ROM to use in daily life - well this is everyones wish i guess......
So what am I doing with my phone? Basically I am just using my phone to call people, use whatsapp, check mails, manage my appointments and take a spontaneus picture from time to time. No Video, Twitter, Facebook, Games and what else is out there...........and no big experiments and time to backup, upgrade and reset my phone stuff every week.
Should I go back to CM9?
Cant I install a "normal google android" rom? Might sound stupid, but isnt there some kind of "pure" rom for all phones, that gives you the same comfort as the sony stock rom (-> update and functionality) ?
Even if there is not THE correct answert to this question, maybe some of you can at least suggest some interesting ROMs, that might fit
uff.....long wall of text, hopefully I could point out my problems good enough to motivate you to spent your time to answer them.

First of all, this is a long question and you must donate me for answering. Haha. Just joking but you need to consider yourself and get experiences.
1. Reboot CWM and install the ROm amd Gapps needs to be reinstalled.
Wipe dalvik cache and cache then reboot. You're updated.
2. It is for FXP231 and so you must install 231 in order to have fixed
3. Go to deepsleep so much in CM10. Some said pretty awesome because it saves battery but it is in deep sleep so you can't really control your phone no more. Like you can't awake in the morning because you are in deep sleep.so hard to wake up. And yes your problem is deep sleep.
4. Use Go Dialer or Touchpal Dialer. Download from Play Store. It will make you better. Stock is still laggy and under development.
5. I run SlimCM which is CM9 and everything works except sound bug and FM Radio. Sound bug can be fix with Viper4Android. Run CM9 which is great, fast and stable.
And I really want to advice you is find out more yourself. It's more getting trouble but you will become more awesome I answer your question short so don't mind me about that but if you need anything, just quote and ask. Bye.

Sorry for asking again, but most times i just dont have the needed phrase to search for - combines with 50+ pages of results it really drives me crazy sometimes. After making a, lets say really stupid mistake, installing the rom in the beginning, it took me almost ages to find the threat to return to the beginning and reinstall it properly.

Thanks a lot for reading and answering my questions anyway, you got yourself a honest "thanks button klick" as a reward
Okay, so now i know that "my deepsleep problem" is kind of a reversed version of almost everyone eleses deepsleep problem. Everyone wants his phone to enter deepsleep, i want to prevent that.
Will this app solve the problem? Deep Sleep Battery Saver
I mean, if I can set the phone to "wake up" short before my alarm time it might work, right?
I read something about Apps causing the problem, especially messenger apps. Can anyone verify that information, or is it some random guess?
Edit:
Also I found out, that the Phone should not enter deepsleep while being charged. Unfortunately this seems to happen to mine over and over again.

DS battery saver is the one for some phones that cannot go into deepsleep. It force the phone to Deep Sleep with some profiles to make your phone not deaf. Good app and I'm using it.
Blah blah blah, anyway, it's the ROM problem I think but you can simply reply FXP's CM10 about the fix No worries. I think you can fix nothing at this stage. And also I thought Alarm app crashing amd screen not waking up is not only the Deep Sleep issues but also the rom bug of excessive Deep Sleep or alarm app not fully functional. Please reply to the rom thread and wait for answer! High Five!!
