[q] please read!!! What should i do?? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive been using some different 2.2.1 roms and im not liking that it doesnt have the stock camera launcher with face detection, smile detection, full working 720p without lag. It also doesnt have other features and i feel that something is missing from these roms. Yes, i know these roms are tweaked and are much faster but it actually might be worth going back until the official gingerbread??? I dont know what to do HELP ME CHOOSE!!
I dont know but i just have this feeling that if i do a repair in pc companion it would make my phone brand new again "legit"

Flashing back to 2.1 boils down to what you want. 720p has been enabled in the froyo roms. But if you can't really stay without face detection etc then flash back to eclair. Yes if you do repair your phone, your root will be gone but you can reroot vain the flash tool.
I'd restore my eclair backup via x recovery instead of repairing it.
Keep in mind that in gingerbread os (official ) you wont be able to enjoy face detection and the Sony camera launching pattern. Since they have mentioned in their blog that the stock android camera app will be implemented.
Hope that helps you out.

[Q] A couple of questions :-)

Hello i am new to the X10 forum, just got the handset second hand, but in super condition, the other day and i must say i is really growing on me!
Being a former, Htc hd2, galaxy tab, htc magic owner i have done allot of tweaking to my devices, so i started of with rooting my x10, putting on jit, deleting a ton of apps and so on, and i must say it is running great now with dual touch and all.
But i see there is a newer firmware out there and also a froyo rom (which i might wait on getting til everything works).
when i check about phone, i currently get this information:
Firmware version: 2.1 update 1
Baseband version: 2.0.46
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
Build number: 2.0.A.0.504
so here comes the questions:
1) What is the newest version of 2.1 i should look for? ( a link would be great )
2) Will there be any major changes?, i looked abit around and it seemed that its mostly about battery life and so? i got about 32 hours last full circle with 17 procent left when i recharged it.
3) I am trying to use "setcpu" but i am not sure it is allways running since it dosent always show up in my app killer program, is there a way to make it run allways?
4) Another program i am using for the first time is APNdroid, i am not really sure about, and the question goes, does it do anything automaticly? or is it only a switch (the widget) for turning on or off all wireless radios? same thing with this as with "setcpu" i dont feel sure that it is running?
5) Is there a work around to get the camera working in froyo? using a third party app maybe? is there other disadvantages and is there a way to get the Sony E wallpapers loaded to the rom ? ( i actually really like the cosmetic chances of the X10s android)
I thank you for taking a bit of your time, i am glad to be back at xda with my phone, just had to sell my Nokia n8 since i just missed xda and all the fun too much

If you're referring to firmware, Then 2.1 Generic Firmware (2.1.A.0.435) is the latest as of now. You can update using the flashtool. (Try searching the forum for tutorial)

Thanks guys
I might go for froyo, just dosent look as good as SE custom blueish skin, but i guess the speed is worth it. would love those wallpapers though.
Is the froyo batterilife worse? ( i am thinking the SE rom is optimized for the device while froyo is not?)
Okaj now i really need some help did a really unwise thing, was not intentionaly just forgot to flash newest baseband radios
well i flashed froyo without the newest baseband and now it just keeps restarting and restarting with the freex10 logo, is there any way i can get the phone to talk with the computer so i can flash the newest baseband?
i allready tryed the factory restore, don tknow why i didnt think of backing up or something so foolished mistake.
if anyone can point me to some help i would be glad.
Download newest flashing software for x10
>>>HERE<<<
Also get yourself a copy of the newest FW with new baseband >>>HERE<<<
The second link should give you the required file to use with the new flash software.
Just put the files in Firmware folder of your Flash software install location and hunt out the simple instructions.
When you have done press the Root option on your flash software and install xrecovery and titanium backup.
Instructions for flashing to the 2.2 froyo beta 4 are in the development section but make sure you use xrecovery to wipe user data before you flash it.
I'm guessing thats why you semi-bricked your X10 last time.
Hey i got it up running by loading v3 of froyo, so now i can just flash the newest, and then v4 i hope so at least but thanks
oh i see so the flashing it will give me newest baseband super thanks

Official update?

I did a search before posting, but if this is the official update, has anyone tried it and have any problems?

No problems here, but I had to use Odin to flash over stock 2.1 because kies mini did not work for me.
I'm not following, you had to flash over 2.1 with Odin to get the update?
I'm still running stock Eclair (2.1. update 1), I'm assuming I wouldn't have to flash anything and I would just simply need to do the update?
Thanks.
Why do you want the official 2.2? I tried it for about 5 min and regreted doing so. The custom roms available here are way better in my opinion.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
some people had problems when using kies mini. kies mini simply would not recognize the phone attached to pc. an article somewhere reported that it is due to the fact that people have not registered their phones on samsung website. for me kies mini worked perfectly and it should work flawlessly for you as well as long as you have samsung usb drivers installed and operate the software properly.
of course there are many greater roms out here, and i would never go back to stock.. but if you want to try stock rom first and learn what's different, try registering your phone on samsung website first and run kies mini.

I don't doubt it at all, it's just that there are a gazillion and one ROMS out there and for a noob like me, it's a bit overwhelming. Not knowing what ROM to flash and then there's the issue of going back to stock if I ever wanted to.
I haven't managed to sift through and find my stock ROM here. JV16.
In case something happens, I'd like to know that I can revert back to stock and not worry about not having a working phone.
So all in all, I really want to, but I guess I'm just so chicken .... you know what. lol
Well, you can always do the 2.2 official update if you are afraid of custom roms, just pay attention to EVERY step before and during flash. I'm using myself stock 2.2 because I'm still waiting for unlock code from Tmo, after that I'm definitely going custom

[Q] New Optimus One owner, questions for the Gurus.

Hi Team recently grabbed one of these as an upgrade from my old Huawei phone that i smashed.
Some questions i was keen to know...(before the fone arrives)
If it comes with 2.2.1 will i have to downgrade to install a custom rom? or can most custom roms work with 2.2.1, i searched for some info but no dice sorry
I will most prob use Z4 to root (if it supports 2.2.1) else ill use SuperOneClick??
ROM CHOICE...
Seems where pretty spoilt here, my old fone had maybe 4 custom roms, i dont know where to start here!
Megatron seems to be what ive read most people running, im looking for a slight speed increase, bloatware removal, and optimized battery life, am i looking at the right rom for my needs?
Anyone who can spit me off some answers... Thank You
Viva
Z4root will do the job quite nicely .. you should take a look @ devoid rom definitely .

For now, yes. Android 2.2.1 is still unrootable. Without root you can't install custom recovery and without custom recovery you can't install custom ROMs.

Void or devoid. Void still has some google apps. I find most of them to be useful, not bloatware. Devoid is completely stripped of everything that is not absolutely necessary for the phone to function. I haven't used devoid.
Void has control over CPU overclock and hardware acceleration, and you can disable them if you need more battery life.
Don't worry; you'll learn how to do a nandroid backup using the custom recovery and you will be able to test any ROM. If you're unhappy with it, restore the backup to your previous one.
z4root works great on 2.2. As far as I know there are no rooting techniques that work for 2.2.1 so if you phone comes with that version, you will have to downgrade before rooting. Then after rooting, install the custom recovery and start flashing ROMs.
I think that void is the best general-use ROM out there, although I've now started with devoid and built up the things that I needed and I like having just what I need and nothing else.
Agree with the previous poster that using nandroid backups it is possible to have multiple ROMs stored on your SD card that you can switch back and forth between. It's a pretty amazing feeling to be able to triple boot three (or more!) different versions of an operating system on one device.
My best ROM+kernel combo is : Void without any modules installed ( the google apps you want you can just get them from market ) + Der-Cavemen's kernel . I do not use a2sd thus I did not make an ext partition and everything works perfectly . Actually I just couldn't ask for more.... well I could be asking for the 2.3.3 update
Thanks for the replies guys, means alot!
Ok Void sounds great as long as its got some over clocking options, also i was worried about losing the LG turn by turn navigation app that comes with the phone, is this easily installed again or is this left intact in this rom being talked about??
As far as downgrading ill have to wait for the phone to arrive to check what its running , if i have to this will be the most part im worried about as ive never done that before and ill have to find some 2.2 firmware for New Zealand which is where im from, can someone point me to a simplistic guide?
Thanks once again team !

Installing void looks so complicated because it includes all the steps starting with downgrade, installing custom recovery and so on. Those are steps which you have to take anyway, no matter what custom ROM you settle for. So don't be scared, just read everything really careful before applying and you're gonna be fine.
[This stays between the two of us : void was the first (and only) custom ROM I have ever flashed, one week after I got my phone. I never had an Android phone before and I didn't know anything about all this stuff, yet everything worked perfect. Think positive!]
Thanks man, after reading through the Void instructions im def gona give it a whirl, ive installed quite a few roms before but never had to do the folder thing, not even sure if i have to downgrade yet till my fone arrives which will hopefully be tomoro?
Heres hoping its 2.2 and not 2.2.1,
thanks for all the help guys
I've used the stock rom for some time, and it worked sweet, so if you're not so sure about custom roms, just root and get the custom recovery on your stock rom, make a nand bkp, than start playing. Android os is a pretty neat os, but still complex, you'll probably wanna do some readin' on how it works before start messing around with it. You should pay attention in getting the right drivers for your pc (that could be complicated as the LG drivers for adb are pretty unstable on windows), and get into some adb working, it will allow you to do pretty EVERYTHING with your phone.
If you're afraid to loose the warranty, you should know this: the service knows you messed up with the os by seeing your custom recovery installed (of course the custom roms too, but it's logic that you'll get that one out once you decide to take the phone to service). So best/easy thing to do when you take your device to service using the warranty is to upgrade it to 2.2.2 via LG Updater (you downgraded to install custom roms, remember?). This will erase the bootloader and recovery to the stock ones, and guys from service will never know you messed that up.
Fell free to ask anything else, i'll think of more advices and write them.
Thanks for the advice, this is my 2nd android phone, ive installed alot of custom roms, i also have the Android SDK kit on my comp here ive pushed a few boot animations via ADB im pretty sure ill be fine
just never had to downgrade a firmware before as my old huawei fone was stuck on 2.1 and that was it

You can backup your contacts on PC before attempting the custom ROM flash. There are various ways of doing that: using LG PCSuite, using MyPhoneExplorer, using the export functions in Contacts etc. But if your contacts are stored in the SIM card, you won't lose them.

Just got a Sony Ericsson X10 and it has Android 1.6. I want to upgrade to the latest version of android and want to enable features like multi touch.. How do i upgrade my phone? I dont know anything about android and most of the posts here have just confused me
Hi - and welcome..
Go to the Sony Ericsson website and download and install SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) to your PC..
Fire that up and follow the onscreen instructions (carefully)..
That will get you upto the latest version of the firmware for your phone..
It may NOT be the latest available firmware though depending on whether your phone is customised by a specific carrier/ network?
If it doesn't upgrade you then look settings and about phone then tell us the country and customisation info in there..
Good luck..
If you're feeling brave you can root it too.. and do a load of other stuff.. (took me a while to build up the courage to get into all that side of it.. but was worth it in the end, cos phone performance can be improved dramatically)!

Greets alamode, congrats on your new X10, and welcome to xda.
First off, it's great to hear that you have at least tried to find a place to start with your Android, and I know it can be rather daunting, as well as time consuming.
- If you're only interested in official Sony Ericsson (SE) Firmwares then you can just simply connect your phone to your computer after having installed PC companion on it
and follow the instructions. This should give you the latest official rendition of Android for the X10 which is 2.1 and includes dual touch.
- If however you wish Custom Firmwares which go well beyond anything that Sony could ever offer than I would recommend after having updated through PC Companion
(above) the next step is to 'Root' your X10 which allows you greater access and control over your device and the ability to 'Flash' (install) the many custom Themes, Apps, and ofcourse Firmwares(ROM)s

Well yeah i heard that rooting/flashing your phone opens up a whole new world for you so im definately interested in that. i've heard Sony ericsson wont upgrade X10 to latest versions of android? Can we still update them after rooting/flashing our device?
Anyways ill update my device first from Sony ericsson then.. After that i'll have to root my device? Since i dont know much about rooting/flashing can someone just guide me as to what that is and what it does? Whats the difference between rooting and flashing?

Trying to update but keep getting this : unable to install or start phone software update components
Try doing a repair first then try the upgrade..
For rooting.. go to this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906248 download Superoneclick to your pc and run it from there..
Rooting will give you access to the system files so if you start rooting around in there deleting things then it can be dangerous - but you can always reflash/ repair using SEUS.
Rooting will also give you the opportunity to install custom ROMS which you'll find on the Dev sub-forum.
Would also recommend that you install JIT once rooted, as this gives a big performance boost. You'll find that on these x10 forums too.
Alright.. This is so frustrating. Been trying to root my phone all night but not really able to get anywhere.. Here's what i did..
First i finally upgraded to 2.1.. I used another PC and somehow it didnt give me the error i was getting earlier at the other PC. Not sure what was the problem there.
After upgrading to 2.1 i decided to root. First i used the SuperOneClick file to root my phone. After rooting, I installed BusyBox and then kept installing xRecovery but with no luck. xRecovery would just not install !!! I coped the apk file and ran the install from the phone, I got the icon but after getting the icon when it comes to the installing part it just freezes and after a while i get an error which gives me 2 options, Either to force close or to wait. I tried the other method too, the pushing method using X10ModTool and that didnt work either. After lots of tries and after getting extremely frustrated i uninstalled the apps and tried to start fresh.. I unrooted my phone using SuperOneClick and decided to root using z4root. I got the icon in the menu for z4root and i clicked on permanent root.. My phone restarts but i dont see the SuperUser icon anywhere.. If i try to install BusyBox it keeps on saying that its trying to get information..
So, So extremely frustrating !
Oh and i forgot to mention that after upgrading to 2.1, my Phone seems to have become slower while swishing between screens..
Which build number version do you have as the Superoneclick is for 2.1.A.0.435 and 2.0.2.A.0.24.
2.1.A.0.435
Im just not able to get root access ! Ive tried X10 Flash Tool, Ive tried SuperOneClick, Ive tried another software as well.. I just cant seem to get the root access..
I Installed Root checker and everytime after i root i check and it says that you do not have root access.. :S
help !

Thanks. Yeah i have xrecovery installed as well.
What is basically a ROM? From my understanding its a customized firmware? If so, Which ones the best at the moment? I cannot compromise on functionality (as in i dont want that i cannot use bluetooth/camera/wifi or some other feature because of the rom). So basically i just want a stable rom in which i dont have any limitations. Also what is the advantage of using another rom anyway?
Thanks !
Okay.. ran a few of those optimizations and stuff and the phone is running a bit better. Can you guys tell me what is a good Benchmark score for Stock 2.1 on x10? im getting 33.4 MFLOPS right now.. is that alright?
I still am experiencing a little stutter in the menus, so i installed LauncherPro and that seems to have taken care of it.. I dont understand why cant i get the stutter to go away in the original home screen?
Lastly, Another problem ive been having.. My mobile is connected via USB but instead of it charging up, It is very very slowly losing charge. It went from 95% to 89% in around 45-60 minutes. Whats that all about?

For me the best 2.1 ROM so far is bluesparks, it is very fast and stable. Everything works in this ROM.
As for a 2.2 ROM, i just love wolfbreak's CM6.1.3 v4.3. Everything works except for the camcorder. For getting the camcorder to work you can download video illusion from the market. The quality wont be as good though. However this ROM is just too good. Too fast and stable with good animations.

[Q] Xperia Ray not working properly after flashing and rooting. What to do?

Hello everyone.
I tried rooting my Xperia ray today using this guide: http://mytechencounters.wordpress.com/2012/03/17/root-your-xperia-phone-without-voiding-warranty/
Bear with me, you might find all of this tedious to read. My phone came with GB 2.3.4 build .62 which is hard to root. So as the above guide directed, I downloaded a .42 build firmware, CE(Central Europe perhaps? I don't know) and tried to flash it using flashtool. I disconnected the phone from the PC in between. My phone wouldn't boot. Then I used SUS and updated it to ICS, making the phone work. I then flashed it to GB .42 patiently, and with success. Alas, problems started immediately. Many processes such as media, calender storage, acro etc came up as stopped working. Even after selecting force close they would keep appearing. I cleared the respective cache/data and the notifications stopped. Then I rooted it using Doomlord's toolkit, and updated to .62 via OTA, keeping my root. A few things have changed. The keyboard name is the same, International keyboard, but it is different and I don't like it. Camera is not working. Screen goes blank if I open the camera. Messaging does not work and the messaging app crashes as soon as I open it. No contacts are found, despite importing them again. (They all show up when using the import from SIM option, it says importing is done but they are nowhere to be found). I called someone manually. While calling his name shows up but my contacts is completely blank. Google search is not working and it crashes too. There might be other problems, but I haven't checked. Anything in particular to check? Please help me solve all these issues. I'm glad my phone is rooted now, but it's next to useless due to all this. Please help me.
Great. Even the screen unlock security seems to not work. No slide to unlock. No pattern unlock even though I saved a pattern. I press the power button, the phone just shows the home. No security. How do I fix all this? PC Companion? SUS? And I don't want ICS so I won't use them if that's what they're going to update my phone to rather than fix it.
Do a complete wipe data/factory reset or flash .42 again, if this won't work take it to a service center cause it's a hardware issue

Oh my God. Yet again, a small step proved to be highly useful. I can't thank you enough! :good::good::good::good::good::good:
Side note: I'm thinking about unlocking my bootloader, mainly for installing a custom kernel to overclock and probably for using custom ROMs in the future. I know that I will lose my DRM, so I can't run trackid and timescape. What else wont I be able to run? Is DRM that important? Can I unlock the bootloader with a method that will keep my warranty? Thanks in advance.

No problem, hope it's going well now :good:
1. Overclocking can destroy your phone/phone's hardware. I've never overclocked and I wouldn't do it...
2. DRM are not important and trackid should work with the latest version. Not sure about timescape, maybe with an updated version it works
3. You can just keep your warranty by unlocking with testpoint method. Here is a great tutorial and sony won't notice it, only when your phone is bricked up
But testpoint is just working until a specific build number of the hardware, it should be mentioned somewhere in the thread!

Alright, thanks. I've decided to not unlock the bootloader, because all I wanted to do was overclock but I guess that's harmful.
Another side not: Have you bought an Xperia Sola yet? I read that you wanted to

Nope, after unlocking my bootloader and having Android 4.2.1 on phone I don't need a sola anymore. I would go for a Nexus 4, or in future for another nexus device :good:

Android 4.2.1? Oh just saw your sig you have CM 10.1. I've heard that Android 4.0 and above versions don't work well on 2011 Xperia devices.
How's it running? Is it better than the stock GB ROM? How's the gaming performance? If that's fine, I might install the ROM in the near future. Also, do you use Chainfire 3D? V6 Supercharger? Any other apps that enhance performance? Sorry for asking so many questions

For me it's better than gingerbread, but I don't often play games on phone, only somteims, but the games are going well :good:
The rom is only for unlocked bootloader and I didn't upload, but another member in development section did
No I'm not using any mods or tweaks, just sd maid to clean my sd sometimes, but jellybean is running smooth without any tweaks

I think you have gotten a lot of good advice from Mihahn and I just wanted to add some suggestions before you unlock your bootloader...you probably want to get comfortable working with CWM Recovery. It has been a while since I did this on GB but there are a bunch of tools that you can use to put recovery onto GB stock roms and a good place to start is this thread in Ray Dev: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426912
Also before you decide you just gotta have a certain ROM, take a good look at the OP for the ROM....there may be something not working correctly that would be a deal breaker for you....there are some features that only work properly on a stock based ROM. This is particularly true of the Jelly Bean 4.2 build for the Ray....the 4.1 ROMs are working pretty good.....but if you absolutely love the sony camera app then you have to stay on a stock ROM.
Have fun!
