TBShould I wait? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Still on the fence on the tb, have upgrade waiting just hesitant to buy.
Have heard usual smartphone complaints ie batt ect but heard same about incredible but after using inc most complaints wer nitpicking at best. esp after root is great phone. Just wanted some input from inc users who went to tb & what u think of Ur switch, pro's con's.
Thanks
sent from dinc

Apart from the obvious differences such as screen size, my dinc had more of a washed out screen display at extreme angles, I did not have an AMOLED screen, the Thunderbolt has had better battery life, the processor is faster, just about everything is bigger and better. The dinc had it's advantages, namely it's easier to fit in your pocket and AOSP has already been released for it.
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk

I'm coming from the inc and I have zero complaints. All of the people complaining are just nit-picking like they do with everyone phone that comes out (unless I just got lucky with the perfect build).
If you had the dinc u know how crappy the battery was. I've had this phone since opening day, and it seems to me battery life is just about equal to the incredible. Which is impressive considering the 4g and large screen.
Personally if I could go back in time I would have waited until miui came out for this phone before I bought it, and I would have kept the incredible with miui.
This phone is definately better and I would reccommend buying it, however it isn't worlds better than then the incredible. Its just a small step up IMHO
Pro: nicer bigger screen, faster, more memory
Cons: no great roms like cyan or miui yet, some apps don't work with it example: tdbank, myverizon, spb shell.
Overall: happy with my purchase and would do it again

Ummm... I'm using SPB Mobile Shell on my Thunderbolt now...
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk

It works on some devices. already talked to the devs about it. They are working on a fix
Are you using beta 5, or the the real "spb shell 3d"
Edit: it even says it in the market description
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

I would get it now. With the rooting and a couple of threads on how to remove the bloatware, I was able to clean mine up fairly quickly and its running smooth with good battery life.

I'm using SPB Mobile Shell 5 but it is the beta... That is bizarre that the final beta released less than a week ago functions on the TB but the actual paid release does not... Hopefully they will fix it because I think it's great.

As I said. Works for SOME devices. Mine it does not currently work for. Even the market description says "thunderbolt users may stick on black screen upon boot"
Many thunderbolt users have also been complaining in the comments about it.
Personally I don't care, I wouldnt use that as a daily driver.

[HELP] Amaze or SGII

LIES!!!!!! the SII may have better battery life, but overall the phone is crap lol
Now it may be the rampant HTC fanboy side of me, but i gotta say hold on here, why does having ICS make the GSII a better phone?
Inside their specs are almost identical, and to some the SAMOLED pentile screen (which IMO is a bit oversaturated and overrated) looks like crap.
Batterywise: what kind of battery is the GSII packing? either way battery life depends on how hard you hammer the phone, I keep my Amaze clocked down to about 1Ghz and i get pretty awesome battery life on it, upwards of 14 hours
Im supposed to get my amaze delivered today. Hope so. Ive had my gs2 for about a week. Its a very good phone. Takes a while to get used to the big screen. (Coming from g2x). I cant yet compare it to the amaze, but like i said, its avgreat phone. Battery is ok, not great. Blazing fast. ( same hardware as amaze). Ics is ok but not quit there yet. Im running juggernaut 5.0 gb and it works great. As of now it has much more dev support. Do what you like, but i say, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Screen Bleed isn't a issue for me because I have them turned off , works time for me
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
And them sending you another one won't did the screen bleed, 99% of us have it...
I just turn it off when watching a movie or playing a game with lots of blacks.
As for which is better, its all personal preference. I prefer HTC someone else might prefer Samsung.
My friend at school as the SGII and also agree that the colors are over saturated, it just looks funny.
I have my amaze underclocked to 1.2ghz and I get around 14hrs of use. If I'm not playing games. And still no lag whatsoever.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
Turn what off? The screen? How double watch a movie? I'm confused.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
You're gonna have to hold both devices in your hand and use them for a day or two to decide... But since you say you're a fan of HTC, you should probably keep the Amaze. Both devices, in my opinion, are on par, but if I were you, I'd go for the SGS2 in a heartbeat since it's more to my liking
Seeing as I left the GS2 for the Amaze I can say that i think I made the better choice. This phone is much more pocketable. We may have screen bleed from the bottom but that is an easy fix. The GS2 has blotches and streaks in the screen that cannot be fixed. The camera on the amaze is a lot better.
I like My Amaze and I will be keeping it to at least the fall for when my upgrade is available.
The amaze is garbage it has a horrible screen, washed out pics, battery life is a joke...i had mines for one day and turned that crap back in for a gs2, the gs2 isnt perfect it feels cheap cause of so much plastic but other than that and the camera everything beats the amaze
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:22 AM ----------
But I'm not here to bash anybody everybody has their own opinion, youtube reviews if that would help
Just hold both in your hand at a Tmo store and play with them, and decide which one you like best. For most people either phone is going to be a perfectly fine phone for everyday use, it all just comes down to personal preference.
About the same.
Some videos are better on sgs2,some are better on amaze.
I was retesting both side by side last night.I was on the sgs2 for a while, but when I woke up today...
I went back to the amaze.
Better for today atleast.
The amaze browser is just better.

Samsung GS3 LCD/Digitizer shattered. Thinking about a DNA.

So I had my GS3 for about 3 months before it experienced a 2 foot drop shattering not just the digitizer but the LCD as well. The phone was a good phone, I originally had an Incredible, moved up to the Rezound (which I loved) and then the GS3. What I have learned about Samsung is that the build quality isn't as solid as HTC's (from my experiences). I was thinking about going back to HTC with the DNA.
I just wanted some input from people who own the phone and what their thoughts are about it. Practicality, Functionality, BATTERY LIFE (very important to me) and etc.
Any comments, concerns or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance

For all intensive purposes the battery life is the same, if not slightly better than the s3.
And functionality and practicality is determined by you, we can't answer it for you.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Battery life, for me, is leaps and bounds above my s3. I NEVER got 5 hours of screen time on the s3.
Please don't touch my "Thanks" button, it doesn't like you...
Hmm. I am surprised to hear that about the battery life. I haven't read too much about the development of the DNA, is there the whole S-On or S-Off thing that the Rez had? haha
Do you guys notice a difference with the Quad core setup? GS3's dual was very quick and responsive.
Our phone is s on for the time being unless you want to send it to someone and have it opened up. But it really doesn't matter. Only things it changes is that we can't change the splash screen and radios and we have to use an app to flash kernels, besides that it is fine.
And it isn't any smoother per say, but i have seen the s3 get laggy every once in a while, that doesn't happen on the DNA. And apps definitely open faster on the DNA. And very intensive games run better.

I have the S3 and DNA and the battery life is virtually identical for me. Get about 4 hours screen time on both and about 15 hours with a full charge. I have the quad core S3 (international version) and the difference in performance is noticeable. On my S3 (which has 1gb of Ram) I would get lots of redraws on the home screen. Sure custom Rom's/kernels helped but did not totally resolve them. On the DNA I see no redraws or lag. Overall I enjoy the experience of the DNA more than I do my S3 so unless I am going on a long trip, my S3 stays in my desk drawer.
thank you guys for the replies. My main concern is S-Off, I know on the rezzy it made a huge difference (way easier to flash kernels/roms and etc.) Hopefully it isn't as complicated here with S-On. And I'm glad to hear about the battery life. I will most probably be purchasing one soon.
Definitely going to invest in good case.
***EDIT
only thing I am concerned about is not having an SD card slot. -__-
With s on you flash roms like any other phone, and kernels you use an app called flash image gui to flash the boot.img then you just flash the modules in recovery.

Lol if battery life is a concern you are definitely looking at the wrong phone. If anyone tells you different they are in denial. Htc, along with every reviewer on the net about the Dna have all acknowledged the poor performance of the battery.
If you are looking for the best phone out, the note 2 absolutely destroys the DNA. The only thing the dna has over the note 2 is screen resolution.... on paper lol. The note 2 screen is amazing. Honestly just grab one and take a look. Add in the amazing software ( split screen, pop up browser, pop up note and pop up movie player that can all be on the screen at the same time), spen, redonkulous battery life, sd card slot, ability to replace battery and amazing support and you have greatest phone on the market. Hope this helps!

Lol its funny that your phone seems to be the anomaly. Everyone, including HTC THEMSELVES, have acknowledged the poor battery performance. Just look at the size of your battery vs. The amount of pixels the dna is pushing. Do the math man there is reason everyone ( except for a few in denial dna owners) has pointed to the battery peeformance. Living in denial my friend. If you like your dna, kudos to you. Enjoy carrying that phone charger around all day.
If the only bad thing you can say about the note 2 is the size thats a personal thing. Im 5 11 and this phone fits in my hand and pocket beautifully. My girlfriend is 5 5 and she has no problem what so ever with the note. That speaks dividends to how great the note is if the only bad thing you can say about it is the size. Note 2 ftw

Umm....no. are you serious? Look at the polls around net of touchwiz vs. Sense vs. stock. Most people prefer stock, then touchwiz and lastly sense. One of the biggest drawbacks of sense is the recent app drawer. Its beyond puzzling. Why would take up entire screen to see recent apps, including cutting away the app drawer, pull down menu and home screen? Very inefficient.

Evo appreciation

Can I just throw some love to the evo's display. I've had mine for like 5 months and this display still blows me away. Colors are perfect and text is so sharp.
Also the build quality still amazes me and people I show it to are always impressed with how thin it is.
Battery life is also great and I can pretty consistently make it through the day with typical usage.
I don't use the kick stand much but when I do it is very handy to have.
Been running stock sense for like a month and dont hate it. It adds a lot of functionality and the keyboard is pretty accurate with very few mistypes.
Love this phone!
That is all

I love my evo as well but that isnt gonna stop me from getting that m7 on release day...gotta have the latest and greatest ...I'm sure it will improve upon an already terrific and very underated, underappreciated device which is the LTE ...don't think I can ever stray from the sense camera now..it has spoiled me lol

I just came from the optimus g (which I still have) now in terms of speed lgog beats the evo hands down, not by a lot tho. But with overall experience and screen quality and camera quality evo all day. I am so happy is bought one. With a good Rom & kernel evo is a beast with great battery life. Only if you coukd install another gig of ram, this phone would be my primary for a lot longer. It is truly sad how under rated it really is.:beer::beer::beer::beer:

I don't understand why people think Sense is "slow". Sense is not "slow". It might make UI framerates a bit laggy at times, but it's not slow. Unless you use a stopwatch and measure app opening and operation times between Sense and AOSP, there's really nothing "slow" about it. The processors we have in these phones are so insanely fast that OEM overlays basically do nothing to the speed at which Android operates.

Coming from a nexus 4 the EVO LTE is awesome. My Nexus (bought directly from google) had this weird thing where it rattled, and it honestly felt cheap. I like the back glass of the n4 more than the plasticky look of the evo but I stuck a case on it and now I don't notice it at all. Basically the same in terms of processor speed, and the battery life on this phone is light years better. Also, having a microSD card slot makes me feel privileged.. 16GB just doesn't cut it. Oh, and i personally like the Sense camera better. Not sure which one the tech gods think is better but the only advantage the N4 had was that "photo sphere" garbage which quite frankly wasn't that special.
So compared to the N4, I love my EVO.
Oh, and the GS3 felt like one of those toy candy-filled phones you see at the dollar store.
That is all.

HTC One

How does everyone feel about this device? I'm a year away from an upgrade so I won't be getting it, that and its not on Verizon. I really love the look of the phone, and I like Sense, just not that new UI screen.

After the Rezound I'm officially done with HTC for good, if it want for the developer community we (luckily) have I would have bought a GNEX off contract. It's not just the Rezz either, from the thunderbolt to the One X and S HTC is consistently lagging behind. Finally and most importantly they diffuse to keep yo with android as a whole, were the years into on screen nav keys and HTC still continues to use causative buttons ( so much more screen room, still on that ugly ass green color when the blue is much more inviting it also clashes with Google apps. It looks like Motorola and sammy have finally stepped it up so that's where I am going.

Samsung has been on the ball the last few phones they have released yes the charge was an abysmal failure but as of late moto and Sammy are leaps and bounds over HTC which is a dam Shame because I love their cameras, radios, screens, and design.

If it's true that a VZW version will drop as the DNA+ in a couple of months, that will be my next phone. Identical specs to the One and it's supposed to have microSd card support as well. Basically, what the DNA should have been in the first place.

No way. Not doing the ril stuff anymore. Really delays Rom development.
Rezound, s-off, loving it.
Pretty tempted to go with Sammy for the next phone too..ive done the Moto/LG/HTC experiences..guessing its about time for me to join the sheep of the Android world and get a Galaxy (unless the rumored Moto X phone is really something beastly). Hope the SGS4 won't disappoint, not a fan of their design and build quality but hard to be disappointed with their hardware and software. I'll probably still be on the Rez for a bit longer anyway though..VZW will probably lag way behind again in releasing the SGS4, and I hate paying full upgrade pricing when I can wait 2 or 3 months and have the price halved or even better. Still love the Rez in its own right. I never had any real complaints about the Rez (and yes, especially because of the amazing devs we have here) but I hope my next phone is 1. Lighter (it's about the same weight as my old Droid 2 for god's sake) 2. is considerably better on battery life. Camera/reception/screen etc. I think have always been fantastic on this device.
I am VERY curious though to see a battery test on the HTC One..battery seems like it's fairly decent in capacity, but I wonder how much more (if even) that new cpu will get out of it.
Its nice to see community members react to a failing company ... What's a good phone with out good software and documentation... I mean look at the lg optimus age or the moto artix HD you'll understand

I'm not understanding this. HTC is a failing company because they are failing the consumers that were once loyal. My first phone was the DINC and I love that thing, I still love my Rezound as well it's a great phone and I got so much more than with the GNEX and RZR. HTC even began unlocking boot loaders for those who wanted I was really high on my HTC horse but the more and more I hear about the update problems HTC is having while others are moving forward clearly shows that buying a new HTC device is a gamble. I mean the RAZR is getting OFFICIAL JB. Another thing to consider the incredible 4g came out after the Rezound with worse specs and that was it until the DNA came out? They move a step forward them two steps back it makes no sense. I will say however Motorola is also guilty of this in Some ways with the max line just like HTC + lines. Samsung is winning the battle because sadly they are just ding it properly. I hope I see HTC make strides over the year because I will be leaving Verizon sooner rather than later. Pretty sure I'm going to switch to T-MO everything unlimited plan no contacts or carrier chains sounds amazing and new nexus devices whenever I feel like it straight from Google. Sounds like heaven.

While it sure does look pretty, the inability to upgrade external memory via sd card and untested battery life are so far keeping me from upgrading.

I wish phone makers and carriers would stop pushing that cloud crap. Only reason phone makers likes it is because they can stop putting a SD slot in save money and then charge the same price. The carriers likes cloud because with no more unlimited plans on many of the carriers. That means more people will run the risk of going over and they can charge outrageous overage fees.

Non removable battery or if the phone doesn't have more that 32 gigs no sale. I don't believe in the cloud for all my data or my music. I don't like to use the cloud for privacy reasons and it drains my battery faster. Only cloud I use is my own or ssh to my own computer and get files that way. I do like this phone but my rezound experience has been less than stellar. Thinking I'll give Samsung a try on there next phone.

That horid sense 5 ui. Eeww I'd buy a Sammy just because of that. Plus the rumored exynos 5 octa sounds promising for battery life and performance in the sgs4

I hate anyone here who says wah the battery wah wah.
GO ON THE DNA FORUM AND LOOK HOW WELL THAT BATTERY PERFORMS. god, do none of you people do research? it'll be the same, if not better, than the dna. good god

People cries I want more power in the CPU. Gimme this and gimme that but then they cry about battery life. That's like saying I want to take my mustang gt and make it a 1,000 horsepower but I want the same gas mileage as it gets stock. Guess what not going to happen.

dude a bigger gas tank doesn't solve that at all hahaha you're still getting horrible mielage out of the engine with all that power. just bc you have a 25 gallon tank now doesn't mean you're going to get more than 10mpg lol
everybody cries about battery. i don't care; i carry my backpack with me where i go, which includes a charger, 2 spare batteries, and my 10,000mah external charger. and at home, i've got a 5500mah solar external charger by Joos. to me, battery life isn't a big deal. my DNA got the same/better battery life than my S3 does.

A bit of tact would flatter you, unless you're a teenie bopper, in which case I'll forgive you. You have a point and while the software and hardware has steadily improved in utilizing the batteries, I d still say it's still far from ideal.
I'm glad you don't mind carrying all that extra stuff around but I'd like to be able to rely on the device and the battery that comes with it, rather than having to resort to additional measures.

some info please

Thinking of switching to this phone from the g2x is it as buggy random reboots? Just curious how this phone performs

No it is actually rock stable for stock, and still stable for AOSP. You will be stuck on GB and ICS until we get a developer to build us a kernel for JB Sense. Unless you want Cyanogenmod or AOKP.
Everything performs fast, it's not a HTC One but 1.5ghz is more than fast enough.
Try and get the phone for <180$ if you buy it.
Battery life is ok not bad but not excellent. My custom roms and other people's roms can help with that.
As for dev support we don't have as much as other phones but we are still going somewhere. Sorta.
Hope I helped.

To be honest I wouldn't buy this phone any more, it's too old, and if you look through the forums many people have had bad luck with this phone (bad battery, random reboots, backlight bleed, squeaky back) not saying you will have all these issues, but odds are at least one of these issues will plague you. I was lucky and only had the back light bleed, but my cousin also got this phone on my suggestion and he was plagued with reboots no matter what Rom I tried putting on it, and after a while his started to charge extremely slowly (to the point that it was unusable while charging, as the phone lost charge faster). He ended up selling it and got a sensation. I would recommend you get an HTC one x, which you can get for around 200-210 dollars off swappa and even eBay (I just ordered 3 of them all mint condition with boxes and they costed me 200 on average, one was 175 (but without box), one was 210 and one was 217 but they had the original box. Good luck
I got my girlfriend an HTC one x about 7 months ago (found a great deal on craigslist for 130 dollars, the phone was complete mint with the original box also in mint condition, guess the guy didn't know what his phone was worth) and it truly is a very nice phone. Only gripe would be the storage but if you don't play a lot of games I find 16gb is enough storage for most needs (people argue about their 100gb music library but with Google play music their arguments fail, and who needs to really carry a year's worth of music with them every day...)

I loved my Amaze but I have moved on from it.
The negatives: Button Back light bleed, randon reboots (caused by a bad battery), battery life is not too great, not much accessory support, no JB Kernel, odd ball 11pin micro usb port (still able to use a regular micro usb tho)
Everything else is nice... screen quality, camera, speed, sound... dev support is little but its still kicking.
As for cons only the battery life sucks other than that the phone is great for me well hardware specs wise the phone is really good for the ongoing price comparing to some high priced low spec devices out there, but software wise it's not that good cuz we got stuck in ics, I mean officially.. But we have custom roms so yay

I find it to be a rather pleasing phone honestly. I came from an HTC One V with Virgin Mobile and wanted to try T-Mobile because it was $5 and actually had support for 4G where I live. I looked on Craigslist for a decent T-Mobile phone. I looked at Sensations and almost bought one, but then I stumbled on the Amaze. The way I looked at it, it looked like a Sensation 2.0; faster processor, more RAM, support for 42.2 HSPA+, and more storage. I was originally gonna buy it from a guy for $140, but he dropped it to $120 because his kid threw the case away. I've been using it since about March or April and haven't had a single issue with it, except for the button bleed, but it doesn't really bother me. I can't really say anything on battery since he gave it to me with a 1900 mAH Anker batter, but its been decent. So I guess there's my story of how my Amaze came to be. It's a great phone that I've never even heard of prior to buying it, and my hobby is watching reviews of phones just because. I think these days, you can probably get it for less than $150 easy. I'd say if you care about massive dev support then go with the Sensation, at the expense of a less powerful phone, if not, then go with the Amaze. We may not have the most devs, but the ones we do have are amazing (no pun intended) and extremely dedicated. I hope this helps with your decision.

Very amazing review about amaze but on side note once sports88 (developer) said sensation and amaze have same level of development except for number of roms where sensation is leading.

For button bleed use the mod that kills them, use energy tweaks to disable button lights, or use one of my roms. (All of them have button lights disabled).
