youtube in browser, resolution button - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can't seem to change the video resolution on a youtube video while playing in the browser. The options flash quickly then disappear. Not able to select 480p, 720p etc.
Is this a know issue?
Currently running Calkulin + Clemsyn w/ Flash 10.2, but the did the same thing with Vegan 5.1.

Same thing for me here. I've tried both the default browser and Dolphin HD but neither worked. I'm using Vegan 5.11 (flash 10.2) and every time I press the resolution button the menu sort of flashes but I can't select 720p nor 1080p. Youtube video is maxed out at 480p full screen right now.
Does anyone has a fix for this or if this is an Adobe Flash problem? I've tried Flash 10.1and its the same. If I can select a 1080p video for my 1680x1050 pc why can't I select at least a 720p video for my 1024x600 G-tablet?

Same here. Vegan 5.1.1 running Xscope browser. I don't seem to get good quality from the youtube app either. Not sure how to check the quality in the app though.

i aalso have this issue on my sgs and xoom, I believe this is a youtube problem :-(

You can achieve the HD playback by doing this:
1) On PC , go to youtube and Sign in your account.
2) Go to "Account Settings" , then click on "Playback support".
3) Select these 2 options:
Always choose the best option for me based on my player size.
Always play HD when switching to fullscreen (when available)
4) Now on G Tab when you play youtube video, just go to fullscreen mode and it will automatically select the best HD resolution depending on device support. IN case of G Tab 480p.

480p isn't HD.

nice, thanks.
They best res doesn't upscale to 720p on my xoom but when telling the player to always go into HD mode it works fine

Anyone have any other luck with this?

While i have these issues and this is a little off topic why does the Youtube app stutter to play stuff. The web is actually better to play videos

youtube video playback

is there a way of having youtube play in high quality all the time instead of
wifi - high quality
HSDPA - low quality
I can always select high quality manually in the MORE section. But it should be possible to set this as default? Even my Touch HD could do this
Maybe it is just a 0 or a 1 in some system setting...?
On a somewhat unrelated topic... Does anyone know of a way to make the Youtube app the default player for youtube videos? I mean, when I go to youtube in my browser, the videos open in the HTC Flash Player, but I'd prefer the Youtube app opened instead. Any ideas?

High Def videos?

Any way I can play HD videos on my Hero? (including youtube ...)
modaco 2.8, if that helps.
Thanks!
By HD, I assume you mean HQ (high quality) as the resolution isn't good enough for 720p.
On the Youtube app, as the videos are loading press menu, then more and click on "watch in high quality"

grainy video on alpha 3

Tried rockplayer lite and mobo, both play my avi videos as very grainy. Video wasn't all that great before, but it seems worse. Anyone else getting this? They play fine in webos
Try mxplayer. Plays 720p video beautifully.

Tried it. Still grainy. Thx though. Codex didn't help. Installed the arm7. Is that right?

What video format are your 720p videos in?
mxplayer seems to fall over on hardware rendering of mkv files and is fairly slow when rendering 720p mkv in software mode.
Edit: Actually I tried it again and its better than I remembered in software mode when rendering 720p mkv, although I think Ive overclocked it since I last tried and upgraded to Alpha 3. It is grainy though in software mode.
One thing I cant figure out is how to easily get back to the list of movies once a movie starts to play. Any tips there? The only way I seem to be able to do it is to set "playback complete action" in the preferences to "Quit", and then fast forward the movie right to the end, it will then send me back to the list of movies but that seems a clunky way to do it.
I also cant seem to back out of the subtitle selection if I attempt to turn off or change the subtitle language once in a movie, I can select a different subtitle language but it doesnt seem to let me out of the subtitle menu.
Edit 2:
Seems I had my status bar set to turn off when full screen apps asked for it. That means I couldnt see my home/back/settings button whilst playing a movie. Fix was to go into CyanogenMod settings and "Tablet tweaks" then ensure that "Disable Fullscreen" was ticked.
This now allows me to back out of Subtitles menu box and also enter movie selection and settings whilst playing a movie. Im not sure if this was a setting I had previously turned off or not or whether its the default to have it unticked.
shorttrip86 seems to have found a fix : (Fix) Found Working Video Player For Cm7 Alpha 3
It's a test build of MX Video Player.
Tried the Mx video file from that link up there. Its definitely better, but still very grainy compared to kalem player in webos. The videos I'm trying to play were made using PSP movie Creator. The dimensions are small so the quality on the videos is not that great and the only reason I'm even trying to find a fix is because its porn lol
LOL!
In this case, just watch it on webOS or download another...
I just went back to 2.1

If you're not rooted and/or don't want to mess around with the youtube app, sideload TubeMate. When you switch to full screen, it'll give you resolution options. And of course, TubeMate's main function is that it allows you to download the video to your device. Downloading youtube videos doesn't jive with Google's TOS, so you have to do a search and sideload it; it's unavailable from the Play Store. I can't get FHD to work for playback, even on my LG 8.3 tablet ("not supported); it maxes at 720p. However, I can download at FHD and watch it with a 3rd party player (but requires MP3 Video Converter to also be installed).
There's also SuperTube (available from the Play Store). No downloading of course, but it lets you select the resolution up to 720p. The nifty thing with this app is that it's also a floating player, which means you can watch a video on top of another app or your homescreens.
Thank you very very much @lootjelo.
Thanks, i was looking for this, all i need is to have the phone rooted correct?
My device is rooted. Installing for Youtube 4.4.11 v5b apk , your need uninstall to installed system youtube application. Need rooted device for this. @fakeblitz

[Q] YouTube app sometimes switches from 720p to 480p and is there a 1080p option

Hello everyone,
I'm starting to get annoyed of the fact that YouTube sometimes switches from the 720p to 480p resolution. I only find one trick that helps:
1. Set YouTube app to 144p and load the video
2. Switch back to 720p and swipe the video away
3. Load the video again
But it's very annoying to use this every time I open YouTube, so is there a way to solve this?
The second question about the YouTube app is about the 1080p resolution. I have the latest version, but I'm not able to see a 1080p option. I have a note 10.1 2012 edition (1280*720 I think) but it says it's HD ready and a Samsung galaxy s4. I saw some modded version of YouTube on xda, but it's outdated. Is there a way to achieve this resolution on one of my devices?
