How to take a screenshot? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I somehow randomly took a screenshot awhile ago accidentally and I don't know how I did it. So I went on google abd it told me to hold back and press home. This doesn't work for me. I am using the latest version of trigger. How do I take a screenshot with out my computer?

download dropcap2 from the market

(1)
Apps like ShootMe
(2)
Using ADB: Connect the phone to your machine, run ddms from the terminal and go to Device > Screen Capture (or Ctrl-S) for taking a screenshot.
(3)
Vibrant Froyo has the ability, though NOBODY can do it consistently or pinpoint the buttons to hold/press.

Thank you. Im using the app screenshot and its pretty good. I wish it was as easy as the iphone

how do you on the iJunk?
Open an app, shake your phone....
if you want to share it, go to your gallery to the ShootMe folder and long press it.
It's easier than that?

On iPhone all you have do is tap home and power at the same time.

So you HAVE to use TWO hands? All I need is my thumb for ShootMe.
J/K, that is a pretty cool feature. I'm surprised Android has not made a button combo for this, likely an Apple patent to blame.

On miui you can hold volume down + menu = screenshot!

I've figured out the problem!
So, after some painstaking digging, and some serious frustration, I have come to the conclusion that the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant SGH-T959 was designed to allow only one of the four touch-sensitive buttons to be pressed at one time (to compensate for any problems with "fat fingers"). This disallows anyone to press both at once.
"How have I taken one in the past then?" you might ask. The answer; your phone was briefly frozen when you held the back key, let go, and proceeded to press the home key. This told your phone, when it was done being retarded, that the proper steps had been taken to take a screen shot. Sadly, this can never be done when your phone is working properly, lol.
Proof: hold the back key, and after 1 second, slide your finger to the search key. Notice the light is off for the back key? Now press the home key, and it will either turn the light back on and vibrate (switched buttons), or stay off and not vibrate (didn't register home key).

Which device are you using? The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant SGH-T959? Cause if so, then you're the only one.

Every single Samsung device I ever owned running ICS or newer, I've used Power + Volume down to take screenshots. I'm not sure if it applies to stock firmware also or just Cyanogen-based roms, but I am very sure many people takes screenshot using this method.

Well there's the problem. I'm still running Froyo. I tried looking up how to update to Helly Bean, and it turns out I can't update cause I don't have a Gingerbread bootloader. Power + Vol down doesn't open recovery mode. Is there a workaround to this that I am unaware of?

Well, is there a reason that you can't put a gingerbread bootloader on your Vibrant?

In the Galaxy S with Froyo installed, you can take a screenshot of your phone by holding the back button and tapping the home button.
Unforunately, the Vibrant doesn't have a home button, it has a home captivate button and you can only press one captivate button at a time.

Accessing recovery mode for me has always been holding Vol+ and Vol- and Power Button, then releasing when the word Vibrant appear, coming from Eclair 2.1.

[Q] screen asleep during call

been having a problem with the 2.2 roms. I install them and the screen will go to sleep during a call, and the only way to wake it up is to either hang up the call or plug in the charging cord. The phone will wake normal when i flash back to a 2.1 rom. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix on froyo roms.
Enable trackball to wakeup under cyanogen settings or something like that.
press send + vol up (or vol down, believe it's vol up) to wake up phone. mods please move to q&a thread. thanks and hope this helps.

You almost had it.
Press and hold vol+, then while holding that, press and release the send button. That will wake the screen without disturbing the call.

That works but if you have your phone on the table in front of you w/speakerphone enabled while some robot is giving you 5 minutes of number equations, the phone will timeout. When the trackball wake option is selected in CyanogenMod settings/input settings, it will wake the device after you've manually turned the phone off but it doesn't wake the screen after it's timed out. I have been trying to use tasker as a way around this problem but I haven't been able to successfully write a working profile

I'm bumping this thread because I have the same problem but my volume rocker is broken/missing so it is very difficult for me to press vol up/down. I need to use a pen tip or needle, which I usually do not have readily available.
Is there any other option out there for me? Why can't I use the trackball or just the Send key????????????
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
FYI, I'm running GSB 1.4 (CM-7 Gingerbread based ROM).
edit: Some users on the CM forums said that pressing the Menu or Home keys worked, but that doesn't work for me. They were on CM6, so maybe that doesn't work in CM7, I don't know.

I seem to recall that in CM settings, you can configure what buttons can wake the phone up. You should be able to set it to the trackball.

Power Button Question

Is there an app that allows you to reassign the functions of the power button to another key? I am trying to minimize how often I have to use the power button because of the issues several of us are having with the power button.
What are the issues with the power button?
Its hard to describe, its as if the Power Button is moving into the phone it is not sticking out nearly as much as it was when it was new as a result it is becoming tougher to push as it becomes flush with the top of the phone.....

I know what you mean. I came from the Droid X and my first thought when using the Thunderbolt was "WTF at the power button!?" It sits too damn flush with the top of the phone. It took me a good 2-3 days to get used to it. I kept having to look at the top of the phone to get my finger in the right spot.
Anyways... are you rooted? Das BAMF has a feature that allows the volume rockers to be used to wake up the phone. You could then download something like SwitchPro and use a widget to turn to the screen off. Essentially you'd never have to use the power button then.

reboot
recovery
bootloader
Power off

I also downloaded Screen Off to put my device in sleep mode. With these two apps the only time I need to use the power button is when I'm updating ROMs or I need to power on my phone.
Good luck

[Q] Unlock by pressing capacitive buttons/trackpoint?

Hi guys, I got the HTC Legend, and I'm finding it a pain to have to press on the lock button every time to wake it from sleep and so I want to be able to wake it by pressing on the optical trackpoint or any of the capacitive buttons as well.
It really frustrates me sometimes if I forget I've turned it off already and I try to wake it, so I press the power button, and it boots up instead and I have to wait for it to turn on only to turn it off again.
If anyone knows any solution please help me. It's driving me insane. On the iPhone I could just press the home button to wake and it wouldn't turn on the phone if it's off. I'm on stock Froyo 2.2 with sense UI, not rooted. Would prefer not to root and definitely not install a new ROM as it is not my phone and I don't want to mess with it too much. Thanks.
you could use an app like widgetlocker to achieve this. link to market
I'm curious, how the phone turns off when u press the power button to unlock the screen.
Do you have the lock screen setup? It should not be able to turn off untill screen is unlocked then the power button pressed and held again.

Trackball waking cannot be done via froyo sense! If you are willing to root your phone then flash Cm 7.1 as your rom. Then you can go to settings to activate trackball waking.
Other than that you can look around the market for apps that allow this.

what I meant was to unlock the screen while the phone is on by pressing any button apart from the power button, because at night I turn off my phone (the normal way), then I forget if I've turned it off or not, so I press the power button again, and then the startup screen appears - Sh*t! so I have to wait for it to turn on again so I can turn it off.
So essentially I want to press the capacitive buttons or trackpoint so that
1. It will unlock the phone if it is on.
2. It will not turn on the phone if it is off

Why you don´t use the rom from blay0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866849)? It is based on HTC stock version and has several extensions and wake on trackpad. It is very stable and i had no problems with this rom in the last months.

Cannot screenshot when anymore. Updated to ICS.

When I updated to ICS the other day, I started having problems. First of all, my phone is laggy as a mtf. When I try to text, the inputs are slower than I can type and programs take awhile to load. I also cannot screenshot anymore. I tried to home + power button and volume down + power button, but nothing works. I tried restoring my phone in hopes that it would remedy the problem, but it did not help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try pressing both the power and home buttons at the same time and holding them in for a good four or five seconds? It may take a bit longer to activate since you are having performance issues.
The key is to HOLD the vol down + power AT SAME time... Ultimatum is home + power only ICS ROM I have found that on.....

You have a lot of issues and even on a stock room just save your texts through SMS backup and restore get a copy of titanium backup sync your accounts backup your contacts to your sim, pull out your SD card and do a factory reset clean install of ics then load it back up test it before you re install all your apps and stuff to be sure its correct. Even something as simple as flashing and update can and will have issues that can usually be fixed just starting over also since your on stock save how you have your apps set up I hate when they arnt organized. Screen shot it will work unrooted I think

I have had the same problem many times. In my case, it was caused by the fact that I press power first and volume down next. That works most of the time, but sometimes it just leads to lowering the volume.
When I press both buttons exactly the same time, it works always. (For me at least)

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 Randomly rebooting

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my S2, it keeps randomly rebooting at random moments. Sometimes it would give hints that it is about to reboot by randomly popping up the "Device Option" window which has the power and restart option (this is when you hold the power button). So I figured that something must be wrong with my power button. I then remapped the power button (not sure if its 100% right) to volume up instead. Now my volume up is my power button. However, my S2 is still rebooting. I then bought a new battery because of the "spin test" I read somewhere (the battery had a tiny bulge in the middle). The new battery was created December of 2013, so pretty new. To my dismay, the problem still persisted. I tried flashing a rom for the first time (Slim Bean 4.2.2) but still to no avail. I did system testing of ram and cpu, everything checked...
I am at a lost here... If any one can give any advice that would be great.
US variants have their own fora, belongs here. I've asked mods to move your thread, sit tight until they do.
Sounds like the power button is going bad. That power menu you mention popping up generally occurs when you hold the power button down briefly, so the fact that it appears on its own would lead me to believe that's your problem.

Are you sure that your power-to-volume remap completely disables the power button? I am also leaning toward the power button being the issue.
What button remap method did you use? I would like to see if it disables the power button on my i777.

Using root explorer, I went to system > usr > keylayout....
I simply switched VOLUME_UP with POWER on "Generic.kl" (only on key 115 and 116 for this file), then on "Gpio-keys.kl," then on "qwert.kl" It seemed to have worked but there might be some conflict because it would reboot in a minute or so if i pressed the power button.
I don't think I was thorough enough with my changes... I honestly wasn't sure on what I was doing, I was just so frustrated. I tried an app from this forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
but that didn't work.
I changed everything back to normal now. I returned it to bone stock 2.3.4 and did not install any app, it still rebooted, so it must be a hardware problem somewhere. I just updated it through samsung kies to 4.1.2 and ran Framaroot and got it rooted.
