System Video Playback not Working - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just had a problem where video playback isn't working anymore. I was able to do system playback from VPlayer, but then out of nowhere it stopped working. I was able to play AVIs no problem.
I am using CM 6.41 and have reinstalled the rom, and did a full format of the SD card still with no luck. Rockplayer works fine in software mode, but same issue in hardware playback.
Any suggestions on how i could fix this is appreciated.

U makes the ROM u r running? Then i will look up the ROM here to help u.

Video playback should be working
Do you have the latest Adobe Flash Player 10.2? Its in the market, free.

That is what is so strange. It was working fine this morning then when I went to watch the same video on the way home it would not load. I could try to go back to my default backup but I am trying to find out if there is something I am missing to fix this problem.
I do have the most recent version of flash. I re downloaded it just in case and still no luck

Did make any modifications to the android system like change or delete files? Or install or unstall apps required for the ROM to run?

Thats strange...
I had same problem with this rom...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1024515
But after reinstalled the whole system, working fine again.
But... installed Dungeon Hunter II, and if i launch the game, gameloft logo video doesent apper, i had same error message, i tried record a video, and its working...

Thanks Guys, but still no luck.
I don't understand how it stopped working, because I changed nothing inbetween watching the video. And it's not just this one video, it's all AVI files. (Divx or not)
I did a recovery to my stock (still rooted) and it is still doing the same thing. My problem is slightly different fro Mekee85's, where I can record video and still play it back. It seems to be any of the AVI videos I am trying to play are not working.
I also tried a battery pull and still nothing.
Rockplay says: "This File Cannot be Played with System Player"
VPlayer just tries to load the video and then jumps right back to the file selection.
I am going to try a different SD card to see if it helps too, but any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Here r my last suggestions, either start over with flashtool or repair with seus and then reroot and redue all installations of busybox amd xrecovery and then the ROMS. Then see what the phone can do. Good luck if i want to try this route.

Thank you for your help, I am already downloading the generic rom and will try a fresh flash to see if it helps.
Usually I wouldn't care about this, but I use it more for playing videos than anything else. I will post an update of what happens.

Ok sounds good. Let is know since i havent heard about this issue before.
Sent from XDA Premium from my X10a rooted running 2.2.1 CM Rom from Rendeiro2005

Well so far no luck, I reflashed the Generic 2.2.1 firmware, and the fresh install went with no problems, tried it right away and still no playback. Then I updated it from baseband 54 to 55 (I was on 55 before) and no luck there.
Would trying to go to bb .58 help in any way? Or should I start sniffing this out as a hardware issue and see if rogers would swap it out?

Use must flashtool to get the .58 baseband. Its under the x10 android development section. I post links wen i get to a computer if u need them
Sent from XDA Premium from my X10a rooted running 2.2.1 CM Rom from Rendeiro2005

lol, don't worry, I am not that much of a n00b, I am a good boy and can find things on this well design forum.
I thank you again for your help. I did end up doing one more factory reset, still on baseband .55, and it seems all players are now working except for vplayer, which is no big issue since the other players are now working. Still odd but it works
one more quick question, since I am on a rogers x10a, will baseband .58 work with mine?

I actually don't know. I am never tried switching basebands except once since my baseband .54 has never disappointed me. You can either ask another Rogers member or risk it yourself. But if you got it working, I wouldn't mess with it now. I am with ATT in America so I don't know. I am glad you got it working though.

[Q] A couple of questions :-)

Hello i am new to the X10 forum, just got the handset second hand, but in super condition, the other day and i must say i is really growing on me!
Being a former, Htc hd2, galaxy tab, htc magic owner i have done allot of tweaking to my devices, so i started of with rooting my x10, putting on jit, deleting a ton of apps and so on, and i must say it is running great now with dual touch and all.
But i see there is a newer firmware out there and also a froyo rom (which i might wait on getting til everything works).
when i check about phone, i currently get this information:
Firmware version: 2.1 update 1
Baseband version: 2.0.46
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
Build number: 2.0.A.0.504
so here comes the questions:
1) What is the newest version of 2.1 i should look for? ( a link would be great )
2) Will there be any major changes?, i looked abit around and it seemed that its mostly about battery life and so? i got about 32 hours last full circle with 17 procent left when i recharged it.
3) I am trying to use "setcpu" but i am not sure it is allways running since it dosent always show up in my app killer program, is there a way to make it run allways?
4) Another program i am using for the first time is APNdroid, i am not really sure about, and the question goes, does it do anything automaticly? or is it only a switch (the widget) for turning on or off all wireless radios? same thing with this as with "setcpu" i dont feel sure that it is running?
5) Is there a work around to get the camera working in froyo? using a third party app maybe? is there other disadvantages and is there a way to get the Sony E wallpapers loaded to the rom ? ( i actually really like the cosmetic chances of the X10s android)
I thank you for taking a bit of your time, i am glad to be back at xda with my phone, just had to sell my Nokia n8 since i just missed xda and all the fun too much

Thanks guys
I might go for froyo, just dosent look as good as SE custom blueish skin, but i guess the speed is worth it. would love those wallpapers though.
Is the froyo batterilife worse? ( i am thinking the SE rom is optimized for the device while froyo is not?)
Okaj now i really need some help did a really unwise thing, was not intentionaly just forgot to flash newest baseband radios
well i flashed froyo without the newest baseband and now it just keeps restarting and restarting with the freex10 logo, is there any way i can get the phone to talk with the computer so i can flash the newest baseband?
i allready tryed the factory restore, don tknow why i didnt think of backing up or something so foolished mistake.
if anyone can point me to some help i would be glad.
Download newest flashing software for x10
>>>HERE<<<
Also get yourself a copy of the newest FW with new baseband >>>HERE<<<
The second link should give you the required file to use with the new flash software.
Just put the files in Firmware folder of your Flash software install location and hunt out the simple instructions.
When you have done press the Root option on your flash software and install xrecovery and titanium backup.
Instructions for flashing to the 2.2 froyo beta 4 are in the development section but make sure you use xrecovery to wipe user data before you flash it.
I'm guessing thats why you semi-bricked your X10 last time.
Hey i got it up running by loading v3 of froyo, so now i can just flash the newest, and then v4 i hope so at least but thanks
oh i see so the flashing it will give me newest baseband super thanks

New to all this !

Just got a Sony Ericsson X10 and it has Android 1.6. I want to upgrade to the latest version of android and want to enable features like multi touch.. How do i upgrade my phone? I dont know anything about android and most of the posts here have just confused me
Hi - and welcome..
Go to the Sony Ericsson website and download and install SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) to your PC..
Fire that up and follow the onscreen instructions (carefully)..
That will get you upto the latest version of the firmware for your phone..
It may NOT be the latest available firmware though depending on whether your phone is customised by a specific carrier/ network?
If it doesn't upgrade you then look settings and about phone then tell us the country and customisation info in there..
Good luck..
If you're feeling brave you can root it too.. and do a load of other stuff.. (took me a while to build up the courage to get into all that side of it.. but was worth it in the end, cos phone performance can be improved dramatically)!

Greets alamode, congrats on your new X10, and welcome to xda.
First off, it's great to hear that you have at least tried to find a place to start with your Android, and I know it can be rather daunting, as well as time consuming.
- If you're only interested in official Sony Ericsson (SE) Firmwares then you can just simply connect your phone to your computer after having installed PC companion on it
and follow the instructions. This should give you the latest official rendition of Android for the X10 which is 2.1 and includes dual touch.
- If however you wish Custom Firmwares which go well beyond anything that Sony could ever offer than I would recommend after having updated through PC Companion
(above) the next step is to 'Root' your X10 which allows you greater access and control over your device and the ability to 'Flash' (install) the many custom Themes, Apps, and ofcourse Firmwares(ROM)s

Well yeah i heard that rooting/flashing your phone opens up a whole new world for you so im definately interested in that. i've heard Sony ericsson wont upgrade X10 to latest versions of android? Can we still update them after rooting/flashing our device?
Anyways ill update my device first from Sony ericsson then.. After that i'll have to root my device? Since i dont know much about rooting/flashing can someone just guide me as to what that is and what it does? Whats the difference between rooting and flashing?

Um No...
Trying to update but keep getting this : unable to install or start phone software update components
Try doing a repair first then try the upgrade..
For rooting.. go to this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906248 download Superoneclick to your pc and run it from there..
Rooting will give you access to the system files so if you start rooting around in there deleting things then it can be dangerous - but you can always reflash/ repair using SEUS.
Rooting will also give you the opportunity to install custom ROMS which you'll find on the Dev sub-forum.
Would also recommend that you install JIT once rooted, as this gives a big performance boost. You'll find that on these x10 forums too.
Alright.. This is so frustrating. Been trying to root my phone all night but not really able to get anywhere.. Here's what i did..
First i finally upgraded to 2.1.. I used another PC and somehow it didnt give me the error i was getting earlier at the other PC. Not sure what was the problem there.
After upgrading to 2.1 i decided to root. First i used the SuperOneClick file to root my phone. After rooting, I installed BusyBox and then kept installing xRecovery but with no luck. xRecovery would just not install !!! I coped the apk file and ran the install from the phone, I got the icon but after getting the icon when it comes to the installing part it just freezes and after a while i get an error which gives me 2 options, Either to force close or to wait. I tried the other method too, the pushing method using X10ModTool and that didnt work either. After lots of tries and after getting extremely frustrated i uninstalled the apps and tried to start fresh.. I unrooted my phone using SuperOneClick and decided to root using z4root. I got the icon in the menu for z4root and i clicked on permanent root.. My phone restarts but i dont see the SuperUser icon anywhere.. If i try to install BusyBox it keeps on saying that its trying to get information..
So, So extremely frustrating !
Oh and i forgot to mention that after upgrading to 2.1, my Phone seems to have become slower while swishing between screens..
Which build number version do you have as the Superoneclick is for 2.1.A.0.435 and 2.0.2.A.0.24.
2.1.A.0.435
Im just not able to get root access ! Ive tried X10 Flash Tool, Ive tried SuperOneClick, Ive tried another software as well.. I just cant seem to get the root access..
I Installed Root checker and everytime after i root i check and it says that you do not have root access.. :S
help !

Install xRecovery and then you can even upgrade your phone to 2.2 there are some good ROMS available on this forum, you can check this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=617
Thanks. Yeah i have xrecovery installed as well.
What is basically a ROM? From my understanding its a customized firmware? If so, Which ones the best at the moment? I cannot compromise on functionality (as in i dont want that i cannot use bluetooth/camera/wifi or some other feature because of the rom). So basically i just want a stable rom in which i dont have any limitations. Also what is the advantage of using another rom anyway?
Thanks !
Okay.. ran a few of those optimizations and stuff and the phone is running a bit better. Can you guys tell me what is a good Benchmark score for Stock 2.1 on x10? im getting 33.4 MFLOPS right now.. is that alright?
I still am experiencing a little stutter in the menus, so i installed LauncherPro and that seems to have taken care of it.. I dont understand why cant i get the stutter to go away in the original home screen?
Lastly, Another problem ive been having.. My mobile is connected via USB but instead of it charging up, It is very very slowly losing charge. It went from 95% to 89% in around 45-60 minutes. Whats that all about?

For me the best 2.1 ROM so far is bluesparks, it is very fast and stable. Everything works in this ROM.
As for a 2.2 ROM, i just love wolfbreak's CM6.1.3 v4.3. Everything works except for the camcorder. For getting the camcorder to work you can download video illusion from the market. The quality wont be as good though. However this ROM is just too good. Too fast and stable with good animations.

Yeah, that is the 2.2 ROM I was talking about. Make sure you install the correct one depending on your baseband.
In order to keep everything, make a backup of your apps using titanium backup. You can then restore your apps after installing this ROM. Thats what I did.

You probably had an error with rom and it got your phone.
Try using flashtool with the updated firmware.
If that doesn't work try seus with the repair option.
Update this post with the info with what worked or what didn't.
ok .. tomorrow I'll download the firmware and I use the 2.1.A.0.435 FlashTool to update it, I already tried the HIS before but I will not try again if unsuccessful

[Q] Flash Player & X10

I was looking to install Adobe Flash Player on my X10 and noticed its filtered in the market so I am unable to download it. Is this because of a Hardware

If anyone can help me out that would be awesome. I probably won't even use flash that much, I just want to rub it in the face of iPhone users.

I have a problem with Adobe Flash 10.3 installation.
It downloads from market, installs, and then says: "Package file was not signed correctly".
Sorry if this is common problem, I didn't find the resolution.
Unfortunately, Dolphin Browser doesn't really help with flash...
Any advice, please?..
In short you need a rom that uses Android 2.2+ or flash won't work, I tried several stuff with 2.1 and coldn't make it work.
Use skyfire to watch flash videos
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Skyfire will help with flash videos but flash does so much more than play videos!!!
Unfortunately the only way to get flash to work on an x10i is to be running 2.2
The only reason I got into rooting and found this site was a desperate need to use flash on my phone and when SE released the official 2.1 update and I was horrified to see it did not support flash after I ad waited all that time,,, thats where xda, zdizhu, DooMLoRD, Wolfbreak and all the other devs came to my help so I could install 2.2 and finally use flash!!

[Q] Should I upgrade to Android 2.2?

First, sorry if this has been asked, I actually did try to find the answer on my own but no I cant seem to find it.
1st: Should I upgrade to 2.2?
2nd: Are Froyo and MIUI roms similar or is one better than the other?
3rd: Are there any limitations? Such as something not working yet? Or have most major bugs been fixed?
4th: It's obvious this voids the warranty, if I need to send this thing in for repair, can the original OS be put back on?
From what I've heard 2.2 is alot better, and would most likely be welcomed, I just need my questions answered so I don't screw myself over before I do this.

1: its really up to you.
2: Regular froyo looks like stock android, miui looks more like an iphone rom. The speed and performance of the rom depends on how the Creator of the rom optimized it.
3: most things are working on most roms. On some, certain features like wifi, or GPS doesn't work, but those are mostly the roms that are in beta. I have yet to find any custom rom with a FULLY working camera.......
4: yes it can. You coould use pc companion, or SEUS, flashtool, and there's even a method to get back to stock with out using usb(if the ports broken or something...)
I switched to miui(based on froyo) because most other roms seemed kinda the same to me. Just remember to read the instructions before flashing a new rom, and check that you have the right baseband.
Happy flashing

Well the MIUI looks good.
Is there anything besides the camera that I should know about?
Also when you say not fully working camera, what do you mean?
Also my baseband says 2.1.55, so I'm assuming when someone asks for my baseband it's 55? So I need to find a rom that supports baseband 55 right?

On trips miui 1.5.5 which I am using, its smooth and fast, everything works except the camera (zoom + light not working). Its recommend to use baseband 61 or higher for best results, however I have heard of problems with 61 (but they were probably false) so I am using baseband 54, and everything seems to work. Not sure how 55 would work (and yes your baseband is 55) but you can try it, or you can flash a new baseband via flashtool.

But it doesn't mention anything about flashing the entire OS.
Thanks

I looked on the forum and people were saying Cobrato's rom was pretty good.
But on the instructions to install it, it's just saying flash this flash that.
Is there a guide that actually tells you what to do?

Do you have xrecovery? That is very useful for flashing roms and such (but not basebands)
Once you have xrecovery, simply copy all of those files to you sd card, reboot, tap the back button when Sony Ericsson appears on the screen, backup, full wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats, flash the zip files in the order they recomend (you will need to flash the baseband patch) ect ....
To get it, there is a thread in the Dev section where you can download install xrecovery. EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
If you need any specific help with xrecovery, just ask

I downloaded the XRecovery Installer.
Busybox is installed.
But I get an error trying to install xRecovery, the sh command won't install says:
cp: can't stat 'sdcard/Android/data/com.zoz33.xrecoveryInstaller/busybox' No such file or directory
any idea whats wrong?
Edit: Oh I'm using the installer APK from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9561575
Should I use something else?
that happened to me the first time as well. you will have to do the manual installation as described on the xrecovery thread.
Can i use something other than root explorer thats free or do I have to pay up?
you can use any file explorer that can access the system partition, i will try to find an acceptable one now...
EDIT: File Expert from the market is acceptable
Ok I got it installed, it looks like sh was already there but I overwrote it.
I tried that thing you said, pushing the back button when I see SE, but it didn't do anything.
Hmm it can be a bit trickey sometimes... just try again. Power off/hold down power button till it vibrates/as soon as Sony Ericsson appears on the screen repeatedly tap the back button (with the arrow) until you get to the xrecovery screen. Goodluck

Still nothing.
Going to try downloading flashtool, says if I reinstall xrecovery from it I can boot directly into it.
That was my next suggestion... once your in flashtool, connect your phone then Ask Root Perms then press the xrecovery button and it should install it. Then you can press advanced>xrecovery>reboot into xrecovery or use the back button method.
